Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while the vehicle was parked and the key was removed from the ignition, the instrument cluster lights remained illuminated. the failure caused the battery to be drained completely. the failure occurred on multiple occasions. the contact had to disconnect the battery in order for the lights to stop illuminating. the vehicle was driven to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the technician stated that the computer was not able to read the gear shift while in the park position. the technician stated that the gear shift needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 46,200.

2011 f-150 fx4. service advancetrac warning light displays. it comes on when i start up the vehicle stationary. the turn signals stop working, too. the next day the light will be off. appears to be a common manufacturing defect that should be a recall just like on the 2014 f-150s as it is a issues of safety.

Steering sticks when turning left. it is as if the power steering quits working. happens at all speeds. dash lights come off and on at different times-appears to have no connection to light switches

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving approximately 5 mph and depressed the brake pedal to stop at a stop sign, the anti lock brake warning indicator illuminated. the brake pedal was pumped and the vehicle slid into the intersection. the failure recurred on two other occasions. on the third occasion, while driving approximately 30 mph, the brake pedal failed to respond when depressed. the brake pedal was pumped as the contact slid into an intersection. the contact clipped the rear of a jeep that was traveling approximately 60 mph, causing the jeep to flip over twice before landing upright. the contact and the driver of the other vehicle sustained injuries that required medical attention and were transported by ambulance. a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to a body shop, but the failure was unable to be determined. the damage to the vehicle was repaired. the contact also stated that when the windshield wipers were powered off, they would independently swipe across the windshield approximately every ten seconds. the contact stated that the fuse had to be removed so the windshield wipers would disengage. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 59,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. when the vehicle was shifted into reverse, the reverse tail lights were not illuminated and the "r" was not illuminated on the instrument panel. the failure recurred each time the vehicle was shifted into reverse. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the contact stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v190000 (exterior lighting, power train). the approximate failure mileage was 135,000. ..updated 06-16-15 *bf updated 10/16/2017*cn

In may 2015 my 2011 ford f150 3.5l ecoboost began making a buzzing noise in the front left fender well under the hood. from that time forward the truck makes the noise upon start-up. once the vehicle runs for a while the noise seems to fade away but returns upon restart. a technician tried to diagnose the noise at a local repair shop but to no avail. the noise has gotten worse which prompted me to take the truck back to the repair shop to diagnose again. this time i did some research on the matter and noticed that there was some concern about the vacuum pump in some of these model trucks. upon picking up my truck the technician informed me that he thought it was the vacuum pump and that i should take my truck to the dealership to have them diagnose the problem and that the part is only available through ford at this time. i made and appointment with the ford dealership with the service manager about the noise. he was familiar with the problem and said that 9/10 times the vacuum pump is the problem. he explained that ford had switched vendors for the part and redesigned the pump in newer models and issued a (tsb) regarding the pump. since my truck was just outside the warranty period he said i would have to pay for the repair, which was quoted at more than $900. the service manager told me that the part was on back order until mid august 2015 and that i should schedule to have the repair completed then. i asked if there was a safety hazard associated with continued driving and he said, "no, the only thing that could happen is you could lose your brakes or possibly 4 wheel drive, but you'll notice that the brakes are heavy if its going out completely." i feel that ford should be responsible to replace the defective part that they acknowledge as a problem and have redesigned, and which can cause brake or 4 wheel drive failure putting myself and my passengers at risk.

While driving at 65mph on a highway in ga with my rear window defroster on, with an exterior temperature in the mid 50s, i heard a very loud bang which i initially thought was a rock kicked up by the vehicle in front of me. when i reached my destination, i found it was the passenger side rear window panel that had shattered due to the defroster overheating and was still intact because of the factory tint applied to the involved window. it's obvious the defroster was the cause because the spider webbing began at the corner/base of the window where the heating connections are in place and now my rear window defroster does not work when i attempt to activate it. *tr

I own a 2011 ford f150 fx4. while my truck is parked and engine off and doors locked the dash backlight stays illuminated and drains the battery completely. z this begin about 6 months ago. around 55k miles on it. i have to unhook my battery when i get out of the truck to prevent my battery from draining. i found if i unplug battery for about 10 min i find the backlight will not come on for about days. also, my drivers side back door will not unlock remotely or inside the car. it can only be locked or unlocked manually.

Started the truck in the morning (temperature was 45) and the battery light came on. took it and had it check and had the battery replaced. after the battery was in, they ran a test and said the alternator was charging too much and the light will come on again. sure enough after a few seconds, the battery light came back on. took it to the dealer (apple ford in red lion, pa) i purchased it from and they said the alternator is bad and charging too much. there stated that there are no after market alternators for this make and year. so after paying $1055.00 for a ford brand alternator, the truck was fixed. that is way too much money for an alternator. it is an outrage!! i checked around and i cannot believe that the price of this part is actually this expensive. i asked if they have heard about this problem, and the answer was no. i have been a ford owner most of my life, but this may change my opinion on ford trucks for my next purchase.

While traveling a long duration at a consistent mph, low rpm, and low turbo boost pressure i began to climb a hill where more acceleration was needed to maintain mph. at time the vehicle rapidly slowed, engine light cam on, tried to add throttle to stay out of the way of approaching traffic but just continued to slow. this happened while traveling from las vegas nevada to reno nevada. i replaced the ignition coils and that solved the problem only to have it happen again in less than 5k miles in the same driving conditions

I have a 2011 ford f150 fx4 with the power rear sliding window with defroster. the led light does not work to power the defroster and the rear window is also not defrosting. after searching on the internet if this does not get repaired the rear window has shattered. the dealer advised me there was no recall and replacement cost would be $1350. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. when turning off the vehicle, the instrument panel failed to power off. the contact had to remove the battery from the vehicle in order for the instrument panel to shut off. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the instrument panel needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 146,000.

I turned the rear defrost on in my 2011 ford f-150 and smelt a burning smell and then heard a pop the back driver side window tile had shattered. *tr

Turned on the remote start which apparently has a factory setting that the rear defrost automatically comes on. come out to the vehicle and the passenger side rear slider is shattered. *tr

A week or two before the incident i noticed that the light on the rear defrost button no longer turned on when the rear defrost button was pressed. i wasn't sure if the rear defrost was working or not. on the morning of the incident it was cool outside and the windows were frosty. i pressed the rear defrost button after starting the truck and it once again did not light up. i started driving to work with my two kids in the back seat. after driving a couple miles i heard a loud noise as if something had hit the truck. i looked in all the mirrors to find what had hit the truck and noticed that the passenger side of the rear window had shattered. it hadn't fallen out of the frame, but was spider-webbed throughout. when i took the truck to the dealer the service manager said he had seen 5 other 2010-2011 f-150's just this winter with the exact same issue. this should be considered a safety issue. from other complaints that i've read the window does sometimes shatter out of the frame and into the cab of the truck. if it had done so in this instance it would have fallen in the face of my 11-month old son sitting directly under it. *tr

My truck was parked and running. i turned on the rear defrost and noticed the light did not come on. a couple minutes later i heard a loud pop and the drivers side rear window shattered. i went to the ford dealer as i just purchased the truck on 01/16/2015. they acted like it was an isolated incident and i didn't think much of it. i then find on the internet this is an on going issue. my son was sitting in the back seat when this happened. i feel this is a vehicle defect that needs to be addressed by ford. i also feel this is a safety issue as my son could have be injured during this incident. thank you for your attention in this matter. *tr

While driving my normal commute to work on an average cold day the rear defroster shorted out, caught fire and blew out the rear window on the passenger side (three part sliding window) following this incident the passenger seat heater and rear defroster fail to operate. at this same time the auxiliary power plug blew fuses in two devices. i took the pickup to our local dealership and told them what happened along with the fact that i have an extended 75,000 mile warranty through ford motor co. the dealership told me "glass is not covered under warranty" and sent me on my way. *tr

Used automatic starter today around 4:30pm. the temp today was in the 20s here in western maryland. while driving home i noticed the rear window passenger side panel was completely shattered. upon inspection there was no impact area. just the entire panel was very spider webbed. i will be contacting ford before i file an insurance claim. this is absolutely a defect with the design of these windows. ford needs to recall these before a child gets injured from shattered glass. my kids heads are very close to this glass. i'm sure if this happened when traveling at a high speed it could cause any injury. ford needs to step up and address this before it becomes a big lawsuit. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving 65 mph, the steering wheel was difficult to maneuver. the contact also stated that the entire electrical control panel failed and the instrument panel illuminated intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 39,000.

This repair was not covered by ford and in my opinion it should be. here's my story: my husband owns a 2011 f150 with approximately 25,000 miles on it. on december 27, 2014 he turned on the rear defroster to clear the window. as he was driving less than a mile from home, the truck had been running about 3 minutes he smelled rubber burning, at which time there was thick white smoke coming from the outside of the passenger rear window and the glass behind my grandson's car sear shattered due to a short in the heating element of the rear defroster. fortunately our 18 month old grandson was not in the truck as the shards of glass were falling out of the window into his seat. ford will not cover glass under my warranty. i have pictures of the damage and i have included the link below where you will see that this appears to be a problem with ford f150 trucks ranging from 2010 to 2014. the truck is getting repaired today and there were no injuries. it's not about the money, more of a safety concern for rear seat passengers. unfortunately it's very unsettling to not know if the problem will be resolved with this repair. will it happen again? *js

Power rear window glass has factory flaw causes rear window defroster and heated mirrors to become inoperable. there has been hundreds, if not thousands of cases of this issue. ford will not issue a recall. they do not cover it in their top tier extended warranty programs. i was quoted over $1000 to replace whole back glass to rectify. ford has since changed vendors for the complete back glass unit and still no recall.

While driving on interstate 91 at approximately 65mph i experienced a loss of power and the vehicle started to shake. i could not exceed 60mph in fear that the same problem would happen again. i was forced to drive in the slow lane after the incident. a short time later as i was returning from my destination the vehicle again had a significant loss of power at approximately 60mph. ford service stated that it was due to a defective coil and plug. seemed to be a very dangerous issue due to the sudden power loss and abrupt shaking of the truck. *tr

When i started my truck, there was a thin layer of ice on the rear window. i turned on the rear defrost, but it only stayed on for approximately 15-20 seconds, then turned off and would not turn on again. about a mile down the road i heard a very loud noise, it sounded like a large object hit the roof of the cab, i noticed a burnt rubber smell briefly, and then i noticed that the right side of rear window behind the headrest completely shattered. the window is still in place, but there are tiny shards of glass on the seat. fortunately i did not have any passengers in the truck at that time, but that is normally where my daughter sits. *tr

This afternoon i got into my vehicle. after starting my vehicle i then proceeded to turn my rear defroster on. once i turned my rear defroster on i heard a loud pop and then noticed that my rear window was shattered. i believe that their is a defect in the rear defroster of my 2011 ford f-150 because this same incident has happened before. *tr

Rear defroster would not work. 5 minutes later it came on for just a second and all of a sudden there was a loud bang and the window on the right side of the rear next to the slider shattered. after doing more research, i discovered that is has happened before on the 2011 fords but there hasn't been any recall. this is dangerous. thank you *tr

We started having issues with the rear defroster not working on the power sliding rear window. after a short period of time after pushing button to power the rear defrost smoke was noticeable coming from the lower part of the rear window on the passenger side of the cab. i then pushed the rear defrost button to turn off the power looked back into the rear view mirror to see if the smoke would stop and saw the window fracture as i was looking at it. *tr

Driving to work on a crisp fall morning in october 2014, i put the rear window defogger on. about 10 minutes later, i heard a loud pop that sounded like one of my windows had been shot out. i stopped to investigate and discovered that my right rear window had shattered (spider-like cracks throughout though still intact). i understand that this has occurred on scores of ford f-150s. luckily i was only driving 35 as any faster and i might have lost control due to the fright. when is nhtsa going to do something about this? or do about a dozen people have to die first before any action is taken? *tr

Loud sound and popping when turning wheels sharp. has been happening for a while and has gotten worse. service advance trac message displays and then turn signals no longer work. eventually warning would disappear but would come back on when turning sharp again. took in for service and problem became so bad that vehicle would not turn. having to replace rack and pinion. *tr

Pushed my rear defrost button due to some condensation and nothing happened got to work 7 mins later parked got out of truck and opened my back driver door and heard a pop and looked at the rear window and is was cracked all over like a web. *tr

Loud bang with rear defroster on (light flashing)- no broken glass but had to remove 2 fuses to keep glass from exploding while driving as many have already reported to this site. now no rear defroster available.

Luckily, there was not an incident in my case. i had a rear sliding window switch replaced under warranty. i also had an oil change and my battery terminals cleaned by the dealers service department. when i went to pick up my vehicle and began to drive off, i noticed a warning displaying the message "service advancetrac". i then left the vehicle with the service department again. when the service advisor contacted me to tell me what the technicians diagnosed, he said that the truck needed a new electric steering rack. he also told me that this part is on national backorder. after doing some research, i found that this is a vital part in steering functionality. i also read that if this part fails while you are driving, there is a serious risk of accident. i'm thankful that my truck wasn't moving when this steering rack went bad. but it concerns me that so many ford owners have had this happen to them and that this is not a recall. i also think that if this part is on national backorder, there must be many people who are having this issue as well. i want to do my part to make the public aware that this part also went bad on my vehicle. i want to contribute to the numbers so that this can become a recall if the data shows it's necessary. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving at 20 mph and shifting gears, the contact smelled a strong burning odor inside the vehicle and heard an abnormal noise near the rear of the vehicle. the starter defect warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the electrical program had to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 20,000.

It was a 20 degree morning so i decided to use the remote start to warm up my truck before i went to work. i climb into the truck and go to back out of the driveway and noticed the rear passenger side slider is shattered. i've never hauled anything in the bed so nothing would have came into contact with the window. after doing a little research, i discovered that there are plenty of ford owners that this has happened, one gentleman had his child in the back when this happened! fortunately my children were not with me at the time the window shattered. hopefully ford will cover this being that it's $800, but i'm guessing they'll tell me it's not they're problem. *tr

The defrost button would not come on properly. once it did, approximately 3 to 5 minutes later i heard a loud pop. that is when i noticed by looking in the rear view mirror that the rear drivers side back window had shattered. there was nothing indicating it had been struck by anything. the entire window was still intact. the outdoor temperature was around 27 degrees. 2011 f150 super crew. *tr

It was 15 degrees out, i started the truck sunday morning, i pushed the rear defrost button and the light would not come on. i waited about 15 minutes for the truck to warm up when i got into the truck, the rear defrost button still was not illuminated even though i pushed it a few times. all of a sudden the rear window shattered. there must be an electrical problem with the f150 rear defrost button. i have read multiple complaints on this site and would like to see the nhtsa investigate the problem and hold ford accountable. this is not safe! i am requesting that nhtsa investigate the rear window shattering due to a possible shortage with the rear defroster button. i look forward to reading the nhtsa investigation report which will hold ford liable to replace the damaged items. *tr

Rear sliding window defroster stopped working and driver's side heated seat also stopped working. prior to heated seat stopping to work, it became so hot it actually made my leg so hot it hurt. if i was wearing shorts skin would of been burnt. at the time seat and defroster stopped working i smelled wires burning. googled these problems i saw this is a very common occurrence. took my truck to dealership, ford will fix seat , but it will cost me $100 deductible. rear window defroster is not covered by my extended warranty. at this time waiting to hear back from ford. there are at least 20-30 complaints on this site about rear defroster, ford needs to be held accountable for this defect. *tr

My heated seat drivers side became very hot - causing small red spot on my leg. pulled seat cover which had become distorted and discovered heated seat element had shorted out melting copper wiring and burning a hole in foam seat cushion. ended up replacing element and leather seat cover on my own just parts cost nearly $600. contacted ford customer service three times with no response. checked google search and there are many people having issues with these elements. i saved cover, and element and have pictures available. *tr

I started my vehicle on the morning of feb 8th,and turned on the rear defroster. within 1-2 minutes i heard a pop noise and found the glass panel behind the drivers side (one of 3 glass panels) had shattered. no outside impact,it just shattered. i see doing an on-line search there are similar complaints of this problem. i contacted ford motor company and was told seeing as i was out of basic warranty, they would not be able to assist me with the cost of repairs. $625.00 + tax. *tr

I was driving in highway traffic in the right hand lane at about 70-75 miles per hour. the weather was clear and the temperature was approximately 50 degrees. i encounter a slow moving vehicle and moved into the left hand lane and tried to promptly accelerate to pass a slower vehicle. when i attempted to accelerate the vehicle began to shake violently and go into a very rapid deceleration. the violent vibration of the entire vehicle and rapid deceleration made control a challenge. i moved to the right hand lane reduced speed to 50 mph and continued on to a ford dealership to have the vehicle evaluated. the dealership found that 3 coils failed which caused the vehicle to vibrate and decelerate rapidly. i had the vehicle repaired. *tr

Brakes were difficult to engage during emergency braking due to hard pedal. braking seems more difficult than previous experience (like having no brake assist). after searching the internet for known problems, i verified a blown vacuum pump fuse. the dealer verified that the vacuum pump assembly was seized therefore blowing the fuse. i find it curious why a major brake component can fail while not setting a failure code or indicating a failure on the ford display panel (check brake light, etc.). how can the vacuum assist for the brakes totally fail on a 2011 vehicle and not tell the driver there is a problem? why did the vacuum pump fail (internal pump bearings lacked lubricant and seized due to atmospheric moisture) with just over 20000 miles on the truck? why won't ford fess up that they sold their customers a defective $750.00 pump? i guess ford only knows! *tr

I approaching an intersection and let off the gas, and started to slowdown several hundred yards before coming to intersection. the f-150 suddenly began to accelerate without my foot on the gas and my foot apply as hard as i could to the brake. the truck was accelerating on own. abs kicked in and pulsed. but again truck was accelerating without my foot on the gas i complete made sure foot was removed and both feet on brakes. attempted to pump and immediately after relating from brake as pumping to try and stop as hard stop didn't work it was like it was building up and shoot out like a bullet and hit car in front me. once hit then quit accelerating. the front lifted up and full accelerating but feet were both on brakes. lucky no one was hurt. small damage to both vehicle because was as low speed intersection. if there wasn't a vehicle in front me. i would shot into intersection where only who knows what could have occurred to myself and others. this was a life threatening situation, that could have gone really bad.. end result could have been fatal. this needs to be investigated by ford and no one else should be injured or lives taken from an issue that needs immediate attention and resolution to the vehicle owners that are scared to drive there vehicle because of this occurrence. ford needs to make this right and make sure all vehicles this is reported on are safe or taken out of commission to make our roads safe for others and drives. On the night of dec 20, 2013, i was traveling south on i81 north of syracuse ny. road conditions were not very good. a block of ice fell off a truck ahead of me, evasive action was not possible due to ice and traffic volume. the ice struck the alternator which is cleverly positioned about 10" off the ground on the lower left front of the vehicle. the vehicle began to lose electrical power system by system. i cant recall the exact sequence, as it was all happening pretty fast. eventually, the electric power steering system lost power. when this happens on this vehicle, you lose all steering capability. its not like its just manual steering, there is no steering other than the ability to slightly alter course by pulling extremely hard on the wheel. the vehicle had no lights, the shoulders were unplowed, stopping wasn't a good idea. as good fortune would have it, the cicero ny exit presented itself at that moment. i was able to pull extremely hard on the wheel and was able to steer the slight curve. at the bottom, i discovered i had no breaks. i shot across the usually busy ny 31 and into a kwikstop, where i stomped on the emergency brake and came to a stop. we shortly discovered a fire underneath the engine and were able to extinguish it with snow. i cannot believe a steering system like this is permitted. had i known it had this system and its limitations, id never have bought the car. if my son and i had been killed that night, it would have all been chalked up to road conditions. in furious about this system. it needs to be recalled.....now. *tr

Cpsc: i144350a. 2011 ford f-150. consumer stated the electric power steering system lost power. *ln the consumer stated while driving, a block of ice fell off a truck that was ahead of him, and evasive action was not possible due to the ice and traffic volume. the ice stuck the alternator which was positioned 10 inches off the ground on the lower left front of the vehicle. then vehicle then began to lose electrical power . eventually, the vehicle lost electrical power steering. he was able to pull hard on the steering wheel and was able to steer a slight curve. he then realized he had no brakes, so he shot across the highway, which was usually busy, and he stomped on the emergency brake and came to a stop. the consumer then discovered there was a fire underneath the engine, but quickly put it out with the snow. *jb

Vehicle once when first bought shut down during rain conditions when trying to excel. it was like you ran into a wall. ford then said it was a wiring harness problem. it continued missing at times over the last two years. the same thing happened again in december while trying to pass a vehicle and it was again during rain conditions and just shut down in the road. we took it into the dealership and they said it was tsb 13 8 1 and made repairs. vehicle now does not run right and gas mileage has dropped by at lest 2.5 mpg. noticeable power loss. vehicle is the ford 3.5 echo boost. this is a big problem for consumers who want a truck and expect power with good mpg but should not be afraid to drive or get a supposed fix that's not what you have purchased. these situations will result into some very bad accidents. i cant imagine pulling something and this happens. bottom line consumers deserve safe reliable vehicles. we love fords and i hate i am having to complain but this is a real big problem. please investigate. thanks!!!! *tr

2011 ford f150 equipped with 3.5l turbo charged engine traveling at 65 mph began misfiring and suddenly experienced a near total loss of power, causing the vehicle to slow to 25 mph quickly. the vehicle was traveling on a two lane highway with no shoulder and no place to pull off the road. this incident did not pose an immediate threat to car or driver, but under other conditions such as overtaking (passing) slower traffic, the sudden and near total loss of power could be disastrous. after quick research and consultation with the ford service center where i purchased the truck, i have learned the vehicle entered into "limp" mode to protect itself from mechanical damage. i have also found that this problem has long been acknowledged by ford motor company and has been the subject of a few technical service bulletins. also to the best of my knowledge, ford, through this series of technical service bulletin's has failed to provide a permanent solution to this problem. i am filing this complaint in hopes that the nhtsa in cooperation with ford motor company can provide a quick and permanent solution to this problem before someone is seriously injured or worse due to an engineering flaw on a motor vehicle. *tr

I noticed that my truck odometer is traveling further than i am actually traveled. i have told the dealerwhere i bought it from but they say there is no issue. most recent was i left sacramento california and had some work done on the truck and the odometer read approximately 40,000 miles. had the truck serviced in bentonville arkansas and the odometer read approximately 45,000. upon returning to sacramento ,ca. the odometer read, 48,600.it is not 3500miles from bentonville, arkansas, to sacramento, ca.i took the truck back to the dealer and they continue to tell me there is an issue .truck was bought with 33,700 and now has48,600 miles on it. i have not traveled fifteen thousand since i have had the truck. it is about 8000 miles farther than i have actually traveled. *tr

This model f-150 has a known problem in that the electrical defrost on the rear window stops working. the repair is a $750 new window that ford refuses to fix, nor guarantee once they do fix it. it is happening to a lot of f-150 owners, and this is a safety concern, as the window will remain fogged or snow covered in winter driving months. again, ford is aware, as this problem has affected many f-150 owners, as verified by a google search.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the advanced track system warning light illuminated and the turn signals became inoperable. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnostic test where the dealer stated that the steering gear assembly module malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. the dealer replaced the entire steering system. the contact called the manufacturer and filed a complaint. the failure mileage was 40,487.

We were traveling down the interstate when the red battery light came on. shortly thereafter loss of power steering, loss of stability control (per dash indicator), and loss of power brakes. i have had the alternator replaced 2 separate times since for a total of three (3) alternators as well as one new battery. now truck is in shop again for same malfunction. 2011 ford f150 lariat. crew cab. v-6 engine. only 54000 miles and i am anticipating my fourth (4th) alternator. i use the truck in non-mountainous terrain, mostly highway for errands, and rarely tow. i believe a recall investigation should commence. *tr

Truck has a 36 gallon gas tank. fuel gauge does not go to full when filled. while driving fuel gauge goes to empty and message center comes on low fuel 10 miles to empty. tank still has 20 gallons or more in tank. when filling with gas after this happens there is a high pressure release of gas fumes from the filler neck when pump nozzle is placed in the neck. an audible whoosh sound is made and the build up of gas fumes is consistent with every time the gauge and message center think the tank is empty. when starting the truck after this occurrence it takes 2-3 tries before the engine will start. the engine malfunction indicator lamp will come on for 3-20 minutes before going off. the ford vehicle health report reads "engine, transmission, amp; emissions. the truck has been serviced 8 times with no corrective results. my major concern is the build up of fumes and the possibility of fire. it appears that ford has known of this problem with trucks having 36 gallon tanks since 2008 based on comments from other owners when i googled my problem. to this date ford does not appear to have a solution to the problem. *tr
