Takata recall---my driver side air bag deployed around oct of 2015. i started the vehicle in a parking lot, put my seat belt on, put the transmission in reverse and the bag exploded before even letting off the brake. it startled me beyond belief, the horn would not shut off, the cloud of ignition was all over me and filled the cab, and the ignitor bruised my hand. i called ford and they said it was a recall and i had it towed to leif johnson ford in austin tx. the vehicle sat in their lot for one week as the dealer and myself went back and forth with ford hq in michigan. i finally ended picking up the truck because i need it for work. ford said they sent me recall notices in the mail...i never received any. they would not pay for repairs or new airbags. had i been driving on a road or highway i could have easily crashed. i can't believe they can get away with this.

June 24, 2012 dear ford motor company, i own a 2005 ford f150 4x4 crew cab truck, which i have had since 2005, and which you have excluded from your present recall of 2005-2006 ford f150's. however, it has presented an illuminated air bag light every time it has been started now for over 2 years.this i have learned is the single warning sign capable of warning of its faulty air bag system. i am aware that nhtsa wanted ford to recall 1.2+ million trucks and that ford has avoided such a wide-spread recall saying they had made production changes that minimized the number of affected trucks, and that nhtsa sent another letter warning ford that if they didn't agree to a complete recall, the agency could convene a formal public hearing to compel a recall, and that now ford has agreed to recall 2004 through 2006 f-150 vehicles, approximately 1.2 million more trucks. yet still my truck is a 2005, the very year model included in your original recall, yet for whatever reason my 2005 ford f150 is excluded, leaving me to chance the safety of my family's life every time any of us get in my truck (which only likes 2 payments being paid for). by the way, i am a mother of 3, daughter of 2, sister to 1 and the girlfriend of a mean biker, should i parish my children would be orphans, but more importantly to ford motor company, should any of my children be so much as harmed due to this well depicted issue, ford motor company is going to wish my children were orphaned! [xxx] p.s. i also come from a family of ford enthusiasts, thus i have great faith in your loyalty and therefore will allow you a minimal amount of time to include my 2005 ford f-150 in your recall (and notify me of it), before i forward this correspondence to the nhtsa and everywhere else additional research instructs me to. *tr

After driving through a shallow (less than 6 inches deep) puddle, my airbag light illuminated on my dashboard, accompanied by a warning chime. the ford service department diagnosed the problem as a faulty front impact sensor, which shorted out. the shorted sensor, in turn, shorted out the entire restraint system module (the "brain box" ). after investigating on the internet, i have found several other people with similar problems. it seems that the location of the front impact sensor, placed on the hood latch support, makes the sensor susceptible to water infiltration. corrosion then causes the sensor to fail. furthermore, with the freeze-thaw cycle in michigan, water that is allowed to enter the sensor can eventually crack the housing, allowing even more moisture to get inside. the fact that the entire restraint system module was destroyed by the short in one impact sensor is quite disconcerting. the system should be engineered to prevent such catastrophic electrical damage. it appears that the sensor design and placement was poorly engineered for vehicles in the northern climate where the freeze-thaw cycle and road salt are present. *tr
