We have classified the 3 complaints from 2013 Ford Explorer about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
Drivers side windshield trim flew off while drving
Noting two big recalls in door latch mechanisms, this model year, my right rear door has became inoperative. door is locked, will not unlock. cannot open door. had kids in the back seats last week. if this failure happened then, kids faced grave danger if egress required. please add my vin to this recall. as is, rear seats are a death trap. egress malfunction inability to egress vehicle
i have two complains about this auto 1) car paint in the hood looks bubbly and some is pealing. 2)inside the passenger door the fabric reaped below where the windows and door buttons are located.
Windshield pillar, left side is loose and has caused the weather stripping to degrade and detach. have read from other owners the pillar molding will detach when driving down the road.
Ford explorer hood corrosion. i purchased this vehicle new on 4/25/2013. the hood started to show corrosion and i had sawgrass ford in hollywood, fl. repair the hood on 5/13/2015 with 24,420 miles on it. the corrosion returned and was repaired again on 1/8/2016 with 35,110 miles on it by sawgrass ford. the vehicle now has 48,830 miles on it and the hood now has 3 areas with corrosion and the steel frame under the hood is rusted out and almost completely gone.
The vehicle was tested and found to have 10 ppm of co in the interior.
While accelerating exhaust fumes enter the cab, wife says it smells like rotten eggs or sulfur. ac is on in recirculate mode. it happens more often while accelerating up a hill or entering a highway.
Door ajar is on even when the door is close and alarm for this keeps going off also the inside front interior lights stay on.this in on going had it fix once and now its back again.with 24,000 miles and thousands with the same problem this should be a recall this happens when you shut vehicle off and when driving.
Takata recall i purchased a 2013 ford explorer and the windshield pillar has completely flown off while going down the road , i had the drivers side fixed and 2 days later the passengers side flew off. thanks goodness this did not cause a wreck. this should be a recall i have seen lots of complaints on this, and it cost around 400 to fix. attached is a picture of one side before it flew off
The passenger side 'a' pillar plastic cover flew off at highway speed. cars behind me swerved and could have caused a catastrophic accident. the rubber gasket was dangling and consequently blocking the passenger rear view side mirror. ford is stating that it 'is not a factory defect' and consequently i should pay for the replacement (even though i bought the car new, and also purchased their 'premium care warranty.) the car has 40k miles on it.
The front edge of my hood is now corroded all the way across my aluminum hood. there are multiple 'rust' bubbles and now paint is falling off. the rest of the car is pretty much immaculate.
My 2013 explorer hood was peeling and i have to have it repainted. it was rusting. also i smell fuel fumes inside the vehicle, it is so bad, you have to stop the car and get out to breath.
My vehicle has never been in an accident before. however, last weekend driving down the highway, my boyfriend and i hear this loud "thump". both of us thought maybe a bird hit us or something because there hadn't been anything in the road. so we pull of the highway at the next exit, get out to expect feathers, but instead find that the drivers side windshield pillar trim molding was completely gone. had been ripped off by the wind - which it wasn't even windy that day, just the wind of going down the highway. dropped it off to the dealership last night to be fixed and they told us this is a "common issue" with the explorers! how can this be a common issue and no fix in place??? it is in for service now at the dealership and i'm still waiting to hear if this is covered under warranty or not.
Takata recall i purchased a 2013 ford explorer new with 6 miles i currently have 59900 miles and driving on the highway my drivers side windshield trim flew off by itself without any damage. thankfully did not cause an accident we only heard it flew off we didn't know it had until we stopped, and noticed this to it it still has the original windshield and i took to rich ford where i bought the car and was told it came unglued ! i have never had this issue before and have owned several pre-owned cares without anything like this happening my car interior has cracked at the seam again this is a 4 yr year old car with no other damage i just have a little tear on the driver side door where the door handel is. i have had the locks on the passenger door fixed twice it stops working due to mechanical error you have to manually lock and unlock it this is very unsafe as we know that are cars need to be locked in motion and when we park. this i have 2 separate invoice for fixed at quick lanes at rich ford in albuq,nm none of these issues have recalls on them
The paint on the hood is bubbling and peeling off. it has not been exposed to excessive brine or weather.
Black window trim on drivers side blue off while at speed on the highway. this is the second time this has happened. the other side blew off approximately 18 months ago. both instances were repaired at future ford in clovis ca. i live in very hot summer environment. i feel the sun is baking the black window trims and causing the retaining clips, and adhesive, to weaken. both times happened on the freeway at approximately 70 mph. the first time was in a strong crosswind in the late morning. temperatures were in the 80's. this time, was in the early morning, approximately 0830. the temperature was in the high 60's.
Paint bubbling on hood became visible after paint warranty was over. ford advised may be covered by corrosion warranty. brought to dealer who referred to ford motor company. ford reviewed photos taken by dealer and denied coverage stating corrosion had to be all the way through the affected area. owner appealed their decision citing two prior ford technical service bulletins for aluminum body part contamination by iron in painting process. ford and dealer refused to fix the problem. i feel this corrosion may be a sign of a bigger safety problem.
Windshield trim flew off. passenger side at 42,000 driver side at 53,000 miles.
The passenger side seat belt in the second row refused to latch while the vehicle was stationary or in motion. the dealership stated that it was not covered under our warranty. the sun/moon roof has leaked on several occasions causing me to pay out of pocket for repairs. the repair shop indicated that we should blow air into the tubes to keep them clear even though we always park in the garage and at work there are no trees around the parking lot to have anything be able to get into the drain tubes. i have owned several vehicles with sun roofs and never had them leak or need to be blown out even when they were stored 100%v outside. again not covered by warranty even though we had less than 40k miles and a ford certified pre-owned warranty. this is a bad design and should be a recall. the sun roof was stuck open on 3 occasions. the driver side window trim pillar flew off when i was driving down the highway. i was told that it was not covered by warranty and had to pay out of pocket to have it replaced at the dealership. it is now coming loose again and i do not expect it to last much longer with how loose it is. it is a danger to anyone driving behind me as it could fly off and cause an accident. this is a bad design and should be a recall. these events happened over multiple dates but we were not aware of a way to complain about all of these problems as we were told they were not covered under the warranty.
We bought the vehicle used and with 48 hours noticed an exhaust smell inside cabin when sitting at a traffic light or stop sign.
The right side passenger windshield moulding flew off of my car when i was on the highway i believe- heard a sound but did not realize what happened. this is not a wear and tear item. there is now damage to the side door where it hit the car. i was told by the ford dealer that this is something they have seen happen but ford has not done a recall. i am very concerned about the danger of this part flying off a car.
The windshield trim on my 2013 ford explorer flew off while driving on the highway march 4th. the next day, the right/passenger side flew off as well. neither time was i hit or hit anything. many people have filed complaints about this happening to their explorer, yet ford tried to charge me $700 for repairs. i do not believe i am liable for this and i also believe an incident like this could have caused serious damage and/or hurt another driver if they had been behind me.
Oxidizing on front of hood causing the paint to peel
Paint bubbles pushing up on hood
I was driving down hwy 146 and the driver's side windshield pillar flew off. i tried to pull over and find the piece, but i was unsuccessful.
Recently, on the hood of my car, the paint has started bubbling. apparently this is a known issue and ford issed tsb about it. i have not choice but to replace the entire hood as there is no way to repair these areas.
Rust and paint bubbled along front edge of hood.
My car regularly shows that the driver door is ajar. it will not register that it closes, and will not allow me to lock the door. this happens on a daily basis for no apparent reason and i must repeatedly open and shut the door indefinitely until it finally registers that the door is closed. this faulty door sensor/latch issue has been recalled on other ford models but not the explorer yet to my knowledge. it happens when the vehicle is both parked and in motion. i noted the most recent date on the calendar but this has been happening for several months now.
At a speed of 65 to 70 mph on indiana hyw 31 a very loud sound shook my car--i thought i had hit something--looking via the real view mirror i saw the car following me jerk into the other lane--i put on my warning flashers and pulled over as did the car following me. the young man thought i had thrown something out my window which bounced off this windshield--he was not at all happy!!!!! what had happened was the big black windshield molding- driver side----approx. 3 x 37 in long broke off from my car flew back and bounced off this windshield. we could not see any damage to his car. he told me he only saw this big black something about to hit him and jerked the wheel into the left lane. on inspection of my car 4 of the 8 hold points were missing--it appears the molding at the hood points let loose which caused the rest of the big molding to tear loose.
Metal body cracking on upper area panel where liftgate hinges are. creating water damage to the interior part of the third row. this has been ongoing for about two years and the cracks are getting bigger.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford explorer. the contact stated that the front passenger and driver door failed to close correctly. the contact would close and lock the doors; however, the overhead light and the warning indicator on the instrument panel remained illuminated, which indicated that the doors were not closed. the contact had to close the door several times until the lights were no longer illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
Paint around the edge of the hood is bubbling and chipping off.
Takata recall ford 2013 explorer was taken into harrison ford, wellington oh on may 5/15/2015 for nhtsa recall 15v171 (interior door handle spring). dropped off and picked up same day. explorer was and still having signals as front driver side ajar. for a while the door had quit to my knowledge. fast forward to today 9/29/2016 explorer was taken into dealership for continuous displacement for door being "ajar". dealership above printed the notes about car having factory recall being done. even the service desk clerk questioned said notes from technician. as a result i was charged $106.94 for a diagnostic, and explorer was not fixed. i even asked why would my vin show up on this website " nhtsa" . no answer. the driver door will not close, per my information screen. it concerns me if it is not closed, could it be the spring from the recall that was not fixed? i do have an invoice attached to show work was supposedly completed on said day. also today i was charged $2.55 for a handle i was never made aware of today 9/29/2016
3rd row drivers side seat belt leaks water. multiple online inquiries from others. affects usability of the seatbelt.
Paint is chipping from the hood for the past year!
The driver side door at times will not latch, has swung open while driving, and the door handle at times is almost falling off.
My ford explorer ltd. is about 3.5 yrs. old. ever since it hit about 40,000 miles, the paint on the hood has started to bubble and is peeling/chipping off from the front edge. this is a known issue that ford is refusing to address. a simple google search brings up a number of results of people having similar issues (https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=ford%20explorer%20paint%20bubbling). it's very troubling that a $45,000 car that is only a few years old already has bubbling paint and a corroding hood and that it seems to be a pervasive issue that many owners are dealing with. while the damage is not that extensive right now, it gets worse each day and is going to eventually lead to rust and complete corrosion if it's not dealt with upfront. i've attached a couple photos that shows the current state at about 61,000 miles. i've tried to reach out to ford a number of times and the only response i can get from them is that it's the dealership's issue whether they can do anything for it and when i've brought it to a dealership they say they can't do anything because ford tells them nothing is covered.
In two separate incidents, while driving 70 mph on an interstate, the windshield trim flew off the vehicle striking another vehicle on the interstate. the trim came off both the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle.
The paint on the edges of the hood is bubbling and peeling off. this started when the car was only 3 years old. ford won't take responsibility.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford explorer. the contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. upon inspection, the contact noticed that there was water where the spare tire was located. as a result, there was moisture on the carpet. the vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 57,000.
Door ajar notification, stays on even though door is secure, causing power failure from battery drainage ,
In september 2014 the driver's side "a" pillar cover/exterior windshield molding flew off of my 2013 explorer. i was going approximately 55mph on a two lane highway. it was replaced by the ford dealership at no cost because we had just purchased the vehicle. fast forward to may 2016 and the passenger side "a" pillar cover/exterior windshield molding blew off on the same two lane highway going approximately 55mph. i am currently working with the dealership to have this repaired out of pocket.
I was driving on the highway doing 65 mph and my driver side moldings/trim on the driver side of the windshield flew off, which caused the truck behind me to have to swerve. had it been a sedan or compact car it would have cause accident. luckily it didn't in this case. i called the dealership and was told that this is common and it a defect in the design, the manufacturer is aware and the new design keeps the air from getting behind the molding causing it to come off. if the manufacturer is aware, why has there not been a recall as this could have cause or could cause an accident.
Piece of trim along the wind shield flew off while driving on an interstate highway at 65 m.p.h.
I purchased this car brand new and then not long meaning months 6 months or so after owning it after a rain i started hearing splashing sounds from the back and i found water all in the back where the spare tire is located and then water all in the back seat floor and under the drivers seat. the dealership would not look at the car as they blamed me for not rolling up my windows and after complaining to the owner they were forced to look and found the back hatch had a crack up under the rack area, which was causing water to come in the car, the sun roof small tubes clogged and covered by a rubber lining causing water to back up into the back seat floors. i was told this was something i needed to take care of as i needed to blow are pressure in these small tubes often to clear debris to prevent water from backing up and going into the back seat. this is a design flaw and the car smells of mold and still is taking in so much water and the floor i feel is going to rust out and render the car useless. as i have owned many cars with sunroofs and never have i ever had to do that and others who own this kind of car do not have this issue.
Paint is bubbling and separating from the front of the hood on the top and underneath of the surface. vehicle is stationary.
The weld seam sealant used above the tailgate has failed and begun cracking, allowing rainto enter through the poorly done welding, and drips into my cargo area through the rear speakers, down the seatbelt, and onto my seats. luckily i have a cargo liner which helps avoid my seats from getting soaked. this happens whether parked or moving.
Paint is chipping and flaking off from under the paint. bubbles are forming along the edge of front hood and tail hatch.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford explorer. after it rained, the vehicle accumulated water on the interior passenger floor, the seat belts were saturated, and water entered through the vents and poured out from the headlights. when the vehicle came to a stop, the contact heard the sound of water throughout the body of the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact also observed the smell of mold. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there were no open recalls. the failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford explorer. the contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the driver side door failed to secure. the failure was persistent. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the door latch failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 68,000. updated 06/29/16*lj *cn
