Tl* the contact owns a 2000 ford expedition. while the vehicle was undergoing an oil change, the cruise control switch underneath the hood that was connected to the brake master cylinder caught on fire. the contact stated that the ignition was off at the time. the contact was able to extinguish the fire. a fire report was not filed. the contact, a certified mechanic, stated that there was brake fluid coming out of the cruise control switch. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 201,000.

Throttle feels like its sticking. the breaks feel like they get harder the longer you drive or use them. its been extremely cold the last few weeks (air temp of -28f lows to -3f for highs). you let off the break from a stop sign or stop light and it will suddenly accerlerate by itself. seems to happen anytime after 40mph, even if you slow back down to 10-15mph it will accelerate back up on its own, up to as fast as 65mph!) i need to downshift and ride brakes (which are hard as a rock!!!) to keep it from excelling though town and to try to keep the rpms at bay. when coming to a stop and turning its hard to steer and it makes jumpy/jerky movements forward when brakes are applied. when vehicle comes to a stop the rpms skyrocket until you shut down the engine. if you havn't given it enough time before you start it again, the engine and rpms soar up again. things we've tried with no luck are, disengaging the cruise control, replacing the spring under hood where the throttle cable is. thought maybe it was stretched and not depressing fully to alow deceleration. after that we replaced the throttle body itself. again, no luck on test drive. you can hear a click/ping in the pedal and see it come up once truck is in park, give it time. pedal seems to be partially depressed and there is play. have tried to stick foot under the pedal to try and get it to disenge. worked the first few times that's also why thought it was the spring. no longer works to do that. can seem to hear a difference either in motor or trany, acting as if it's working harder when it seems to take control of itself. started happening 12-24-17. been to the shop many times with no answers as to why this is happening. it's very scary and dangerous! after reading about all the others this is happened to its hard to imagine that there hasn't been a recall or at the very least an answer yet!

I have owned a 2000 ford expedition for approx. 3 yrs. and on nov. 22, 2017 while my vehicle was sitting in the parking lot at my work(approx. 3hrs) it decided to light itself on fire! i later found out that there had been a recall on the speed control deactivation switch. i have never been notified of this recall and am extremely angry as i have put over $10,000 worth of upgrades to the vehicle. had i been notified of this recall i would have taken care of it immediately. the recall number is 05v017000 and ford recall number is 05s28. i have contacted ford about this and have not had any response. before i contact an attorney i would like to know if there is anything the nhtsa can do to help? thank you for your time.

Tl* the contact owned a 2000 ford expedition. while stationary, the vehicle erupted into flames. the contact was alerted of the fire by neighbors. the fire department was contacted to extinguish the flames. the vehicle was destroyed. an investigator assessed that the failure was due to a defective cruise control deactivation switch which was related to an unknown manufacturer recall. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

While i pulled in a parking lot after freeway driving the throttle sticks. this only happens in lot temperatures. this makes the vehicle unsafe to drive. you have to push the brake extremely hard to stop and the moment you remove your foot from the brake the vehicle speeds up. when this happens on snow cover roads the abs kicks in. when the abs releases the brakes the vehicle jerks forward 2 to 3 feet. this is a major safety issue making the vehicle unsafe to drive. ford has issues a tsb on the problem (tsb 01-21-5) suggesting a pvc repair kit. the problem is not being caused by a defective part, it is a defective design allowing moisture to enter the system from the pcv and ice up the throttle plate. this needs to be a recall. *tr

the ford expedition model year 2000 was parked in the garage for approximately 3 hours on the evening of february 13,2012. the family went to bed and was awakened around 8:30pm by a police officer who had kicked the front door of the residence in to inform us our garage was on fire. the smoke had not yet entered the home but some fumes were thought to be coming through the duct system causing us to sleep more deeply. we got out of the house and crossed the street by that time the garage was fully engaged in flames. the metal garage doors melted with the heat. later when the fire was put out the fire chief did an investigation to say the fire originated in the ford behind the location of the battery. the insurance company sent out specialists who said it was the speed control module that was the cause of the fire. my family has been displaced for 3-6 months while repairs are done to the house. both of our vehicles were in the garage and were a total loss from the fire. the owner of the vehicle was a carpenter and lost all of his tools from the fire. *tr

My 2000 ford expedition caught on fire while parked in my drive way (which is a total loss). the vehicle had not been in use for about a day before it caught on fire. the vehicle was parked so close to the garage door that if i were not out side at the time of the fire i would of probably seen my house burn down as well. the garage door although sustained some damage. after the fire was put out by the fire dept. i was asked if there were any recalls on the vehicle. when the vin was checked on ford website it turned out that the vehicle had a recall on the cruise control switch which we were never notified of. not only were we not notified but no were on their recall did it say of the damage it could cause. i found out by internet research that if it is not replaced it could cause under the hood fire. *tr

Our 2000 ford expedition caught on fire after sitting in our driveway for approximately 11 hrs. *tr

Our 2000 ford expedition spontaneously combusted in our driveway after sitting for 2 days. it was determined to be the cruise control switch. i am appalled that congress is so upset at toyota when ford knows that 11 million vehicles have these faulty cruise control switches and has done nothing to get ford to take responsibility. our house was completely destroyed and my wife and 2 dogs escaped with their lives. the same day in a neighboring community another family's house was burned down by a 2001 expedition with the same problem. why are you so critical of a foreign company and so ambivalent to a domestic car company with a history of defects that they do not take responsibility for? these vehicles are still exploding and killing people and yet i do not hear any outrage over this.*tr

On august 7, 2005, my wife, 3 year old son and i drove our 2000 ford expedition up to wisconsin to my uncle's lake cottage. the trip was around 120 miles one way. we drove home, another 120 miles, and parked the expedition in our garage about 7:30 pm. it had run flawlessly, and there were no problems evident with the vehicle. at about 2:30 am on august 8, my wife and i awoke to the sound of our smoke detectors in our house, and the house was filled with smoke. my wife ran ahead of me out of the house, and i crawled into our son's room down the hall. he was still asleep, and i reached up, felt his body, grabbed him and tore down the stairs out the front door. our neighbors were already outside as they had heard crackling and banging from the garage- it was totally swallowed by flames. i had a '98 f-150 4x4 that was parked outside the garage, and when the garage door fell and the whole house went up in flames, it caught on fire too and was totaled. the fire departments from 5 towns all showed up and put the fire out. by the time they arrived, our house and both vehicles were completely destroyed, and the east side of our neighbor's house had the siding, windows and roofing burned off.....that house is over 75 feet away from ours. my wife, my son, our dog, and i all got out safe - we lost our family cat. we lost nearly every single material possession we own in this fire....and further investigation by our insurance companies and ford have deemed it was indeed the cruise control switch that started the fire. we now are living in a rental house waiting for our burned house to be rebuilt....it has been nearly 4 months and nothing has been done due to permit complications. *jb
