I just found out the ford is now recalling the 2000 expedition's due to the cruise control issue. two years ago, i was on my way up north and gas was stuck and preceded to excel. i got off at birch run while fighting the gas with my breaks. after running several stop lights, driving reckless to get to a safe place to stop, i ended up leaving my truck parked in a parking lot for the weekend. i drove the truck to a ford dealer and they told me that nothing was wrong with it. it happened again a couple different times on my way to work in which i took it back to the dealership. they discovered the problem and told me to continue driving it until they got the part in. i ended up having to pay for half of the bill despite it being ford's issue. plus, i ended up having to buy new breaks due to them being worn out having to fight the speed acceleration with my breaks. this past sunday, it has started again. we left the palace of auburn hills and the truck was saying we were going 100 miles an hour down lapeer rd with traffic! what on earth am i supposed to do? keep driving this truck and risk my life, my 6 week old son's life, or someone else's life? i'm scared to death to drive this truck but i can't afford to get out of the lease or fight ford with an attorney. help!*ak

Rolling up driver window-clicking noise/ticking in front end during slow turns-slowing down/engine vibration and roaring on acceleration/accelerator sticking while using cruise control/electrical problems(i.e-windows rolling up and down w/out prompting, door locks inoperable, running board lights flashing on and off or non-functioning, illuminated temp. and compass flashing or non-functioning, fan in a/c running for no reason w/vehicle off and keys out of ignition, indicator lights in dash flashing on and off, wipers operating w/out prompting, rear window wiper non-functioning, stereo only working in park and reverse or not at all, electrical clicking noise under the dash, left blinker faster than the right)/black foam substance coming from a/c vents/thumping noise right wiper when in use. the problems have been reported to ford dealer and they stated it was a bad gem module and told us that it was getting wet. they stated to disconnect the battery when the vehicle is parked. these problems are worse when it rains. they also stated that this will happen if it is humid. we live in florida, i don't think that we should have to disconnect the battery everytime we park the vehicle. but if we don't, we have all of this going on when the vehicle is off and then the battery goes dead. i was driving on the highway and all of these things started happening at one time, it was raining. i almost lost control of the vehicle trying to get the wipers to function and get the vehicle off the road until all of this stopped. i bought the truck used from a local dealer back in november of last year. the problems began almost immediately. as the problems have gotten worse, i looked this up on the internet and found that ford knew about the problem with the gem module, just as they knew about the cruise control problem and they are doing nothing to fix it. as i stated above, their answer to the problem which they knew existed, is to disconnect my battery everytime i park the vehicle. *nm

My 2000 ford expedition was parked in my mom's driveway while we went to the beach. we returned 4 hours later and the horn was blaring and smoke was pouring out from under the hood. the fire department disconnected the battery and i had it towed to the ford dealer, who sold us the car. i refused to get back in the car with my kids, after i spent $700 to repair the burned out wiring, and ended up trading it in for a brand new expedition. the recall notice came out in jan -05, after my incident. my friend's f150 went on fire in the middle of the night with the horn blaring - which caused me to investigate the recall. some other fires have involved horns blaring. i want my $700 back. *jb

On the morning of 6 jan 2004, my kids and i were on a routine trip to the gym. this gym is only a few miles from our home. our 2000 ford expedition would not accelerate and stayed at 30 mph even though i did not have the cruise control on. when i tried to stop at several residential stop signs near the gym, the expedition would not brake and proceeded to run through the stop signs. the expedition would not stop and stayed stuck on 30 mph. i called 911 for assistance. the operator told me to put my parking brake on, and i did. when this action did not stop the car, she suggested that i shift to a lower gear. i did, and still the expedition would not stop. i had to drive down a steep hill without the protection of brakes. at the bottom of the hill was a traffic light at an intersection. i could not stop or slow down. i had to turn right going still 30 mph. i could only honk my horn to call the attention of oncoming cars to the fact that i was coming and that i could not stop. after making the right turn, the operator asked me if we were slowing down at all. i replied no and that the expedition remained at 30 mph and was not slowing down. about one minute after her question, just like that, the car slowed down and stopped. the east peoria police officers (who by this time were on the scene) told me to put the car in park and i did. they drove the expedition to the side of the street for me. it was the single most terrifying moment of my life. after the incident two separate mechanics from two different businesses concluded that the brakes were fine. my husband has contacted ford and the local dealership. both have denied knowing of any such previous incidents (which are clearly documented in this forum). as of today, ford has taken neither responsibility or action. the dealership has disconnected the cruise control and will keep it next week for a couple of days to run diagnostic testing on it. complaint by cristina pate, east ...
