Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2014 Ford Escape

In 3 days my car had died 6 times. first time i thought maybe i had left something on and drained the battery. i had someone at work jump me, and i went on my way. the following 5 times, i had to repeatedly push the start button while trying to push down on the break. eventually the car starts but all of my electronics go crazy. i took it to the dealership today, drove 20 miles to get there, turned the car off, when they tried to move it, it wouldn't start. i showed them how you have to keep pushing the button while everything electrical goes crazy. dealership blaming the battery, but what is causing the battery to drain so fast? my concern is that all the electronics go crazy and it decides to die whenever it wants. hope i am not driving with my two small children!!!! based on what i am reading online, i am not the only person having this issue!

Recall 14s17 vehicle has hesitated and stalled several times. it has stalled twice after being put in reverse. eventually car started. there have also been several instances while driving where the vehicle seems to sputter and hesitate but will continue to drive. yesterday it stalled after being stopped at a red light. vehicle suddenly lost power after acceleration and would not restart. vehicle is currently at mechanic's shop and mechanic is reporting an error code of "powertrain control module fail". this vehicle is not safe! this vehicle should be repaired under recall 14s17 as it is a documented issue with 2014 ford escape vehicles.

10/7/17 approx 6:30 pm while entering on ramp onto frway at approx 35 mph, driving dist of less than 1/2 to 3/4 mile from last parked stop, indicator dash memo of "engine temp high pull over safely", no indication on engine temperature gauge as it registered below mid mark. pullled over on frway into closed lanes, turned off engine. turned on again to advance 10 ft out of way of onramp vehicles, temp gauge indicated "h", turned off engine. called for tow, tech could not start eng, battery dead. towed home (less than 2-4 miles), engine off with ticking sound that could be heard across grill. today, 10/8/17 this am checked coolant and empty. no indication of eng running "hot" or no fluid low indicator light/warning. there was never any warning lights, etc time driving from 9/27/17 thru 10/7/17.. *on 9/27/17 i had routine oil change, fluids checks w/receipt of dealer performing all work and checks prior to a trip of approx 346 mi ea way, traveled approx 20 additional mi from 10/3/17-10/7/17 and there was no indication overhting of engine and i had to expect coolant was full, not low as it was serviced approx 9 days prior. *on 9/27/17 i also specifically asked service rep and tech if fluids were checked both stated yes, okay, also indicated on service receipt.they perform a complete check of fluids, hoses, etc. to know if ford escapes, 2014 or others, have had complaints regarding overheating w/o warnings and/or if there is a possibility of this ford engine having a record of these problems and complaints w/dealer who does all routine maint on my vehicle and any complaints r/t bell ford, phx serdept regarding same issue? read fordescape.org there has been a recall for engines catch fire due to overhting/coolant, #17s09 is it valid? i will be arranging towing from my home to dealership my vehicle&performed last maint&oil change on 9 /27/17: bell ford, phxaz 85023

First the wiring had to be replace, week later catalyic convertor, week later transmission, car is only 4 yrs old

Screen on dash, in front of steering wheel, is just a blank light. i can no longer see my mileage, directional, compass, etc

Instrument panel cluster is inoperative. blank multifunctional display. there has been a recall placed for this issue for safety concerns on vehicles manufactured at the same plant between may 19, 2014 to february 6, 2015. the number for the recall is 15c03. my vehicle isn't included. my vehicle is from the same manufacturing plant, but with the date of march 2014. my car however does have a recall of the coolant system, possible overheated with fire has been reported. i am waiting for parts. if it were to overheat i would have no warning with the instrument panel inoperative. also with weather changing, i have no warning for proper tire inflation and several other safety concerns. if the recall was placed because a "safety concern" was recognized, how can my vehicle be eliminated in the recall. it's the same safety concern.

On february 2017 i brought a 2014 ford escape at about 59 k miles and now it has about 70k miles on it. i was totally clueless as to how unsafe this car was and all of the numerous complaints/issues that consumers are having with this car. on 09/22/2017, this car totally broke down. this car is a safety hazard as i almost got into an accident as the car without made a loud noise, and without any warning just stopped/shut down in traffic. none of the safety indicator alerts worked in this car so i was clueless that the card had any issues. i only owned this car for about 6 months at the time and it was clearly out of warranty. i had the car towed only to find out that it is the transmission, bad battery, abs issues and possibly an alternator. i was also advised that it was an electrical issues and possible a recall that is why no warnings lights came on to let me know it was a problem. i reached out to ford who basically said sorry we don't care have a nice day. this car is not safe and should be taken off of the market until ford can get this in order. i really hope someone look into this matter before someone lose their life.

Vehicle suddenly hesitates and stalls while driving it creating a serious safety issue.

Instrument cluster is inoperative

The electronic screen in the instrument panel has failed. ford recalled this model under safety recall number "15v406000". however, the recall make date stopped one month before my car make date. my vehicle has a blank screen but is currently not covered. the screen stopped working in july, 2017 with 53000 miles on the car. i was given an estimate of $750.00 to repair.

Instrument cluster panel has completely gone out. i saw where a recall was issued on some but apparently not mine. car only had 30,000 miles on it when this happened.

The display screen which shows mileage and tire pressure just randomly went out. it was as if there was some sort of short. the screen would come on with lines through it and try to show the display and then completely whited out. this was while the vehicle was parked. i went out to start it one day on my way to work and there was nothing visible.

My 2014 ford escape suddenly hesitates and stalls while driving it, causing a serious safety issue. my escape has never had any work performed on it beyond new tires and oil changes so this is a manufacturing defect. i took my vehicle to the local ford dealership for service and was informed it is a problem with the splices in the wiring harness for the map sensor. i was also told it is the exact same problem as ford's current recall number 14s17 for 2013-2014 ford escapes; however my vin is not covered by this recall due to its manufacturing date. apparently additional vehicles need to be added to this recall or a new recall needs to be issued as this issue continued on my ford escape and ford has refused to fix my problem since my vehicle is out of warranty due to the number of miles, even though this is clearly a safety issue caused by a manufacturing problem and not a wear and tear issue. i was charged $360.35 to repair my vehicle.

The vehicle was in motion being driven when heavy rain began. the wipers would not turn on in any level, manual or otherwise. this created an extreamly dangerous situation with little to no visibility. the dealer did not disclose the problems with the 2014 ford escape bcm but indicated was the cause. they however did not replace it, but did charge $450 for diagnosis only. no actual repair was made. this vehicle should be under recall. it is again affecting the wiper control intermittently.

When driving my 2014 ford escape the vehicle will hesitate and has stalled. this happens when going from a stop and transitioning from 1st and 2nd gear. it sounds very similar to recall number 14v495000 but my vehicle was not covered. these hesitations have caused other drivers on the road to have to slam on their breaks and the vehicle stalled once while making a left hand turn almost resulting in a collision. thankfully the other driver slammed on their breaks avoiding an accident. this happens every rime we drive this vehicle and when ford was asked abkut it they could care less. we have been told by ford it is not their problem.

Tl* the contact owned a 2014 ford escape. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle lost power and the steering wheel seized. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and noticed smoke under the hood. the vehicle burst into flames and the check engine and battery warning indicators illuminated. the fire department extinguished the fire and a fire report was filed. the vehicle was towed to a towing lot and was destroyed. the manufacturer advised the contact to call her insurance company and did not offer further assistance. the approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

When starting the vehicle the abs warning light comes on and does not go out as it should. upon putting the car in gear and moving forward, the speedometer goes out, trip computer goes out, traction control warning light comes on and then hill assist warning light comes on. dealer has been unable to fix this problem and car is unsafe to drive with fear of brakes failing, no speedometer and other warning lights coming on.

Bought 2014 ford escape the instrument panel failed to notify me when all four of my tires were not inflated at proper tier pressure causing the car not to drive correctly on road causing me to slide off road drove car home since was only 2 miles from house husband and step son came out told them what happened they both checked all 4 tires said everyone was under inflated which was the cause of car not driving properly husband ask if the panel told me and i said no they put air in all 4 tires .taking car to ford dealer to have them check it out while fixing 2 other recalls.

Was driving home from work on the interstate. engine began to jerk a bit then warning messages appeared on screen. pulled over to side of road. after car stopped smoke began to appear from under hood and entering cab through the vents. i opened the window to clear the smoke and looked for phone number to roadside assistance thinking it was only a belt that had melted or burned. within a few minutes i began to see flames coming from under the hood by the windshield. i exited the vehicle and a sheriff's deputy happened to be pulling in behind me after seeing my car in distress. fire department was called. within five to ten minutes the engine area of the vehicle was engulfed in flames. after a short investigation on the scene the fd believed the cause to be electrical and appeared to have begun and caused the most damage to the passenger side front corner of the engine.

Failure of the multiple functional display. the display was flickering and difficult to see for a few weeks, but then all of a sudden one day when i started the car it went completely black and has remained so since that time. i can no longer see the display, which is completely black. this includes the odometer, important indicators, and what gear the car is in. this is a significant safety issue that occurred a couple of months after the car left the warranty period by date (>3 years). with no way to read the odometer, this makes it nearly impossible to sell the vehicle at fair market value. the nhtsa has issued recalls on the multiple functional display for other 2014 ford escapes, however my vin is not included in the recall. i believe my car has the same faulty multiple functional display that the recalled vehicles have.

This car has less than 44 miles and is all breaking down, when the battery when down all electrical parts are not working correctly windows are going up and down with out pushing the button, lights turn on and of by then self's, is just to new to happen all this problem, ha money that they charge (dealer ) is to expensive, and i suppose paid every maintenance for inspection to see if my car is doing ok , last time they inspected and didnt see the battery problem , the missing screw in the container of refrigerant, and low oil level in the brake container. that not have warranty any more , like they know all ready that it will be problem with the electrical part. i think this cars are the worse when they are electricall or to much "technology" i was in los angeles area far awy from home and a place that seem dangerous..... it wasnt safety to be in that place with my broken new car. t this should be a recall to see id electrical are working correctly , this now is going a cost a fortune, ...this is not right, i didnt feel safe since my windows was open , was in the night and near to a liquor store and rehab center. people acting estrange asking for money , could not close my windows

Takata recall even though i no longer have the car, had them repossessed it. i made very clear when buying i wanted a car i would have no problems with. i hah just filled my tank with gas on my way to see my pain med doctor 80 miles away fuel system quit, at station, this is an in closed system not supposed to go out because my car was still in shop i missed another appointment with this dr. which resulted in me being put into withdrawals from medication, had i driven there any system had gone out i would have lost control on highway 287 towards wichita falls tx which is extremely heavy traffic. two times my life was placed in danger because of a recall i was not informed of. now ford what's me to pay for what they didn't get from auction i'm not paying for a car that nearly got me killed twice and i don't think they should put this against my credit. i'm considering suing as they cost me my doctor, through me into withdrawals which at the time was life threatening because of health, and possibly losing control on highway at 70 miles which could have cost me my life, now there is another recall about engine fires. stationary failure with far reaching consequences.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled intermittently without warning. a warning code (p0087) illuminated on the instrument panel, which indicated trouble with the fuel rail. the contact waited thirty seconds and then resumed driving. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v005000 (fuel system, gasoline). the contact also received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v643000 (latches/locks/linkages) and stated that the part needed for the repair was not available. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000. vin tool confirms parts not available. updated 04/06/17 *lj the consumer stated the manufacturer was contacted about the vehicle stalling. the manufacturer advised the vehicle was not included in a recall; therefore, no assistance was offered. updated 08/22/2017*js

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. while backing up the vehicle at 5 mph, the back up sensor failed and the contact crashed into another vehicle. the air bags did not deploy. a police report was filed and there were no injuries. the vehicle was driven away by the contact. the vin and failure mileage were unknown.

The evaporator temperature sensor does not properly work causing the ac to blow hot air and in the summer that cause people to over heat or pass out from heat exhaustion because the part is not working.

Vehicle was started with remote start in driveway. driver opened front passenger door . place purse with key on seat and animal carrier with sick pet on front floor. when door was closed all 4 doors locked. attempts to open the doors were made by 3 separate people with no success. had to break back window to get in. cost us $500 for the window. ford customer service offered no assist with the repair.

On april 5, 2016, my suv failed to start, so i checked under the hood. the battery had extensive corrosion. i immediately called aaa, and the technician replaved the battery. october 5, 2016, i noticed that my suv was hesitant to start normally. after inspecting my battery, a small amount of corrosion was again present. assuming this was more than a simple battery issue, i made an appointment at my local dealership ' brandon ford in tampa, fl. i explained the technician my recent history with the battery and showed him the pictures. i explicitly informed him that i did not want a 'band-aid fix' for this issue. after his assessment, the technician advised that he would clean the connections and install anti-corrosion pads and that would solve the issue. on december 30 2016, i visited brandon ford because my vehicle's 'check engine' light had been illuminated, and the suv was experiencing stuttering while driving both on my residential street and on the highway. a bit of corrosion was present again. the ford tech called me after diagnosing the problem and explained to me that it was going to be around $400 to fix the issue ' a poor electrical connection ' by replacing the engine harness signal return splices. he also informed me that this was not covered by warranty. nonetheless, i chose to complete the service. on february 9th, i reached out to ford customer service to explain my issue. i have attached all correspondence to and from ford. they do not feel it is a warranty or major safety issue. i wish to have that re-evaluated.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning light illuminated intermittently. the vehicle was restarted and towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness had a bad connection. the vehicle was repaired and the turbo charge boost sensor and air sensor were replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 46,000. the vin was unavailable. updated 05/20/16*lj

Just purchased a certified pre-owned 2014 ford escape se. a yellow check engine light appear. trouble code p26b7 (dealer specific). it looks like there have been numerous issues with the bypass coolant solenoid or coolant leaks. also, steering wheel controls only occasionally work.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. while driving 10 mph, the vehicle lost power due to an electrical failure. the vehicle was taken to a dealer to be repaired where it was diagnosed that the bcm connector was disconnected. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 22,000.

Whenever car is on and parked, not moving, or going slower than 20 mph, the air conditioning does not cool and blows extremely hot air into the car. if i am in traffic, at a stop light, getting drive through, or parking the car, it quickly gets dangerously hot. right now we have 100+ degree days consistently, with my child in the back seat i fear driving my vehicle in this heat as it is known to kill in texas. my father is an electrician and when i told him he said it looks like an electrical or power problem because he thinks the car idles too low.

Engine fault service now light came on twice with "hill start assist not available" both times. after stopping at traffic light and stepping on gas pedal, car would not move and gave no indication it had stalled. all normal lights were on. i put car in "park" and restarted. this has happened twice on hills and has died on me four times.

After about (3) months after purchasing the car, the electronic instrument cluster started flickering. i didn't pay too much attention to it. after a while, the screen completely went out. i took it to the dealership for an oil change & they told me that it was out of warrantee & it would cost me at least 750.00 to replace the whole electronic instrument cluster & that they would have to keep the car for at least 3 days because they had to keep the car until they receive the new cluster & install it. if there are others with the same problem, i would like some advice.

Car just exited the highway. drove approximately a quarter mile and made a right turn. the steering locked up in mid turn. fortunately there were no cars parked on this particular street or there would have been an accident. managed to straighten wheel and able to pull in a parking spot. car's electrical system started shutting down to save battery power. had car towed to ford dealer. they say the alternator was weak. five days after the incident and still waiting for the part. lost confidence in the product. car is nine months old. *tr

Once again vehicle would not start after being parked for over an hour. tried several times to start. all dash lights and headlights, radio, windows, etc. would function, but no indication of ignition when key was turned. tried both keys to make sure it was not a bad key. neither key worked. left car where parked overnight and returned in the morning. car started. called dealer and it was suggested that i drive the car in, rather than have it towed in. i did. i left the car at the dealer and was informed later that day that they had been able to verify my compliant. they indicated that it was a build up of resistance in a wire then the engine was hot. it was wrapped and i was assured the i would no longer have the problem. i did some research and found that some 2013-14 ford escapes have been recalled for insufficient compression of casing around the wiring, causing exactly the problems i have been having. all the potential problems listed in the recall, short of a possible crash have been experienced to date! my vehicle was manufactured at one of the affected assembly plants during the affected dates. however, the recall indicates 2.0 liter engines. mine is a 1.6 liter engine. therefore, dealer said they could not do anything for me and assured me the problem had been solved. i requested that the wiring harness be replaced because i felt unsafe in my vehicle and was afraid that it would stop suddenly and i could crash. i was told that repair was not possible, because my specific vin was not recalled. i was assured that i should have no further problems. i accepted the return of my vehicle, with the assurance that if it happened again, we would escalate my request for replacement of the wiring harness. the dealer had my car for over a week. *tr

Vehicle would not start after being parked for approximately one hour. tried several times to start, headlights and dash lights would illuminate, but there was no indication of any power going to engine to start. no clicking (as with a dead battery - all lights were functioning properly). waited 10 minutes and it started. turned it off briefly to go inside to tell shop owner that car had started. came back out, it would not start again. tried several times to restart and it would not. left car where parked and called a tow truck to take car to dealer in the morning. dealer was unable to recreate the problem and was able to get the car to start each time. i was told that there was nothing they could do and to pick up my car. which i did. *tr

I have filed a complaint under odi# 10640819 at 3.5 months and now i'm at 7 months and ford does not have a fix. how are they allowed to extend customers this long and nothing is done to them. what can i do to ford to get my vehicle repaired? my clock also has been tampered with and some electronics act stupid at times. my ford dealer says its ford but who knows? if they do not have a fix then give me a new car that works. ford is useless and no one cares as they keep saying i'm sorry. *tr

I was driving along with cruise control on at 73 mph, when i could no longer accelerate, my escape just died with no warning lights, stall out or anything. just as if someone turned it off. i had to coast to the side of the road. i waited a few minutes and tried to start it again with no luck. when i turned the key over, it seemed like it wanted to start but was not getting the gas to. i tried 3 more time and finally called ford roadside assistance and had it towed to the nearest ford dealership. i am waiting on a reply (with no loaner etc) the reason i buy new is for peace of mind. not even , 10,000 miles on the car and it brakes? what gives. i have already taken it back to the dealer once (the day after i bought it) because it tries to stall when switching from reverse to drive, but the dealer made some excuse and said to watch and see if it continues. i am just glad that i was within cell phone signal range because i had just not been a few minutes before (scary). *tr

Outside temperatures were over 100f. vehicle cutoff - lost all power and was coasting. shifted to neutral to restart - which it did. pulled off the highway called hertz roadside assistance. vehicle cutoff again while parked. did not immediately restart. restarted after about 10 minutes. vehicle was towed by hertz. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. while driving at approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and the battery warning light illuminated. the contact coasted over to the shoulder and was shifted into park. the contact waited for a few minutes and the vehicle restarted. the contact stated that the vehicle was diagnosed at an unknown location where the failure was unable to be duplicated. the failure recurred intermittently. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 7,439.

The wipers stopped working correctly. with the headlights not on, the wipers would work erratically and not efficiently, causing an unsafe drive during rain. additionally, when the headlights were turned on, the wipers stopped working altogether. trying to ride home in the dark with no lights, nor wipers functioning correctly caused an unsafe situation. additionally, the signals and parking lights are dimming and not working properly. the car is presently at the dealer for two days- has not been looked at yet. *tr

Power steering has gone out in this new vehicle 3 separate occasions. when looked at by a technician, they do not know what is wrong. been in the shop for over 20 days. *tr

While driving on highway i accidentally depressed the keyless start-stop button. the engine shut off, power steering and brakes were lost and engine would not restart by pushing start-stop button. i was able to slow car - with other cars close behind- shift gear shift to neutral and apply brake pedal so that start-stop button would restart engine. i have had ford dealership check keyless start-stop system and they indicate that system works as it should. start - stop button is located in drivers right knee area and is two inches from similar looking climate control button. power steering and brakes were lost with engine off and car in motion. i contacted ford motor company and they referred us to the dealership. this is a dangerous design flaw. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle emitted a burning rubber odor through the vents and caused the odor to penetrate the interior fabric. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection several times, however the dealer stated that the vehicle was new reason why it had the burning rubber odor. the manufacturer was contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

While driving my vehicle it's approach sensor went off. i thought it was due to being in traffic but then it went off on a constant high pitch squeal. it lasted for about 3 minutes then shut off. then when i was on the hands free telephone device through the ford consal it went off again and i could not stop the very high pitch squeal and i had to pull off the road and put it in park. then it happened while sitting at a stop sign. the squeal was so loud i wanted to take the vehicle to ford and ask for a refund. i could not stop the sound and it sounded like my speakers were on high but i couldn't lower the volume. this was a new vehicle and just drove it off the lot about a month or less. it hasn't happened since. *js
