We have classified the 97 complaints from 2014 Ford Escape about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Power steering assist warning came on and lost steering. it happens when driving.
While car is in motion our 2014 ford escape stalls. we turn the key off, turn it back in and it will sometimes run for a bit before stalling again and sometimes stall immediately. currently this has happened on city streets and parking lots. once while turning. others going straight. luckily we have not had this happen on the interstate yet.

For the last 3 to 4 months my car would start until i stopped for gas ,then when i tried to start it the dash lights would flash off and on and all electrical systems would go dead.starting this week 11-10-2019 until today 11-16-2019 every time you want to go any place the vechile has to be jumped off.the second you jump it it starts so it is not the battery. it looses all electrical power.
Attempted to start my vehicle and pushed ignition button. all of my panel lights and monitor started glitching and flashing and then everything went black. the engine did not start. there was a recall but my vehicle was not part of recall. i have owned vehicle for 2 years. i have had a drivers door lock cylinder fall out. i have rust in several locations, including hatch and passenger interior side of door.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. the contact stated that the instrument cluster was inoperable. the contact stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v406000 (electrical system). prime ford saco (located at 857 portland rd, saco, me 04072, (207) 282-0300) was contacted and confirmed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 118,000.
The multi-function display in my instrument panel went blank. as a result the warning chimes, messages and warning lights are non-functional. i am not warned of safety issues such as low tire pressure or disabled airbags. this is also the only place on the car where the mileage is shown so i don't even know my mileage!
Just got in one day and the led panel was a white screen, could see any information whatsoever 15c03 ' reprogram instrument panel cluster ' 2014-2015 ford escape ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 ford escape vehicles manufactured may 19, 2014, to february 6, 2015, and transit connect vehicles manufactured may 11, 2014, to july 2, 2015. due to a software incompatibility issue, the instrument panel cluster be inoperative including a blank multiple functional display (mfd), and non-functional warning chimes, messages and warning lights. specific warning chimes, messages and warning lights. as such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 101, 'control and displays.' consequence: if the instrument cluster is inoperative, the driver of may not be warned of safety related issues such as low tire pressures or disabled air bags, increasing the risk of personal injury or a crash
The transmission went out the first few weeks i had the vehicle. then the rearview camera went out now my radio has gone out the back windshield doesn't work. it has been one thing after another and i haven't had the vehicle a year. some of the thing happened in motion and in park. mostly in motion.
Around 60,000 miles my vehicle began to experience intermittent instrument panel failures during which all gauges including gas, temperature, and speedometer, fail to light up or move and none of the warning lights (ie: service engine, low fuel, etc) are able to light up as the whole display is shut down. this also frequently impacts my touch screen display, stereo, and a/c/heat, as nothing will turn on, light up, or work. the issue began a few random times when i first started my vehicle around 6/12/19, but everything would resolve itself within 1-2 minutes of driving. within a few weeks, the issue started occurring more frequently and now the instrument panel will sometimes shut off while driving straight, turning, etc. i am still able to drive the vehicle with no issues, for now, but i am unable to see important safety features such as the speedometer or warning lights.
Coolant issues similar to those included in the part 573 safety recall 17v-209, though my vehicle was manufactured a few weeks later and not included in that recall, as well as electrical issues that were similar to other recalls that didn't include my vin. in june 2019, it started with the vehicle not turning on or shifting out of park intermittently.. work was performed and then a week later p0303 cylinder misfire.. again work was completed, the code came back, and now ford is recommending replacing the engine but will not cover the costs due to being 5 years and in excess of 60k miles. took for 2nd opinion and ran out of coolant and overheated less than 5 miles away from ford dealership, even though they just replaced the coolant overflow tank and filled it.. continues need coolant every few miles. seems crazy that a vehicle that stayed on top of routine maintenance and has not been involved in an accident or excessive conditions would need a new engine at less than 94k miles and is the consumer's responsibility to foot the bill. i've already spent almost $3k on this issue and ford verbally told me just the engine would be around $7-8k without labor. they also had their sales department call me and offer to "take a couple hundred off a new vehicle" for my current one. very disheartening to hear that when i've taken care of the vehicle as the sole owner, less a few recommended tire rotations.
Intermittently when you start your vehicle, the instrument cluster gauges and information display may be inoperative. in addition, all warning lamps and indicators, and audible warnings may also not function. intermittent stalling, and increases of speed without user interference
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. while driving 75 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact pulled over, disconnected and reconnected the battery, and restarted the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 53,000.
The informational screen has gone black. it has been recalled in the 2015 and 2016 ford escapes, but not in the 2014 models. there is no mileage, no tire pressure, no gas gauge, no oil pressure. needs to be recalled like the later years.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. the contact stated that the air conditioner and heater blew out insulation inside the vehicle through the vents. additionally, the push to start button failed to work and an abnormal noise was heard. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but no assistance was provided. the manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to nhtsa. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 49,000.
The vehicle was parked stationary while i went inside the office building to run an errand. when i came out, my daughter opened the passenger side door first as i was opening mine and she screamed and smoke and fire came bursting out of the car and all the windows blew out and knocked us both off our feet. the fire department said it was electrical as the engine was still intact.
The instrument cluster is inoperative the screen is completely blank. i am concerned the driver of may not be warned of safety related issues such as low tire pressures or disabled air bags, increasing the risk of personal injury or a crash

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. on several occasions, while driving 10-45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code. the vehicle was not repaired. cloninger ford (located at 1241 us hwy 70 se, hickory, nc 28602, (828) 615-8653) was called and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v495000 (electrical system). the failure recurred approximately 8-10 times. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 35,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. the contact stated that the instrument cluster panel failed to work and went completely black. the dealer (richmond ford lincoln, 4600 w broad st, richmond, va 23230) stated that the contact would have to pay for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v406000 (electrical system). the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 55,000.
While having to replace the coolant at least twice a week and after having 2 recall repairs completed on the coolant system, then after 10000 miles after the recall repairs were completed, ie replace overflow bottle, sensors, etc. the car still is losing coolant and now the "engine has reached high temp please stop car safely". warning is showing on panel and the car will go into drive but will not move. the car had not been driven when this "warning" occurred in my driveway, there was no way engine could have overheated as it had not been driven. this would appear to be a defect in the recall repairs that were done or that there is another problem.. i have the car currently at the dealership and am told that it could take up to 3 weeks for repairs.
This is now the 4th time my car has stalled on the road without warning. they've all revolved around some type of electrical failure that either caused the vehicle not to start, overheat or lose power all together and come to a complete stop. three times this happened while on the highway and once on surface streets. in this most recent one. some of the repairs were covered under a recall but there's something about this model that is just wrong. i had a ford explorer for over 10 years and 200,000 miles and it never broke down on me the way this one has. i do not feel safe with this car.
I purchased my 2014 ford escape in april 2017. i also purchased the ford protect 75000 mile extended warranty. from time to time i would notice a hard shift or slip. i was getting close to my warranties end and brang the vechile in to the dealership from which it i had purchased it from. they said they updated the pcu (which after researching is fords recommended fix). couple weeks past and its still doing the same thing. warranties over not my problem is what im told. both from the dealership and ford. i have a recall from ford do to shifter cable bushings being faultly. were your car could roll away due to being in the wrong gear. but the kicker is they have not yet provided a part and you can get it fixed and be reimbursed or always use your parking brake. which im sure is great for hot rotors and breakpads. and this is not the only problem i have. my vechile now has quite a few issues. which include stalling when backing up shifter stuck in park (finally when it does release slams into reverse) randomly draining battery because car is in power saving mode not starting because if hill assist mode? backup cam intermittently not working touchscreen displaynot working or black. all these problems seem to be common among 2014 escape owners when reading online forums for both owners and mechanics. yet ford states that even with the recalled issue. no consumer complaints or injuries have been filed. i will be document every occurrence from this day forward.
Car occasionally died at stop lights, signs and once on the exit ramp while exiting a highway. occasional to often rough running especially at low speed and odd shifts from the transmission. surging in the engine while at highway speed and when slowing to stop. engine fault message would come up in display and i took a picture, showed it to service manager with no success. computer would not store codes when these problems occurred so on 4 separate trips to the dealership i was told there was nothing that could be done and to continue to drive it and bring it in if it happened again. vehicle finally died and check engine light came on and stayed on. had it towed to the dealership and a signal return for map wiring problem was diagnosed and repaired. after some reading i believe there have been service advisories and possibly a recall for certain vin's. i told the dealership i did not feel safe driving the vehicle with the problems it was having but it made no difference.
While on highway. rpm scdropped to 0. all lights on dash lit up. smell burning. car stopped working rolled to side of highway exit ramp. towed to kuhlmanns's automotive on meridenrd wolcott ct 06716
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. the contact stated that the digital panel started flashing and then went blank. the panel flashed back on, but then went blank again and remained blank. the dealer (upper marlboro ford, 5701 crain hwy, upper marlboro, md 20772, (301) 627-5600) performed a general maintenance special vehicle check-up for several services, but did not mention the panel failure. when the contact questioned the dealer, they stated there was no recall and did not provide a repair estimate. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 104,000.
The fan blower motor works intermittently. that is, it doesn't always work when activated. moreover, it has now completely stopped working. this causes extreme safety issue when windows are fogged up inside vehicle, preventing driver from seeing. happens when vehicle is driven and when stationary.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. while operating the vehicle, the instrument cluster was inoperable and no information would display. the contact indicated that the instrument panel display initially began to flicker, but then went completely out. the cause of the failure was not determined. the local dealer (autonation ford miami, 16800 nw. 57th ave, miami, fl) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v406000 (electrical system), although the failure was similar to what was listed in the recall. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 68,000.
Failure at 80,000 miles, however the engine was replaced with a new engine at 76,000 due to problems from the coolant recall; this time the vehicle would stall when coming to a stop or while driving. computer screen would show "system shutting down"; vehicle would go into "limp" mode, reduce speed and car would shut off without notice. vehicle was towed in after issue occuring 4x in a 2 mile drive. vehicle was towed in. advised by the dealership that they could not duplicate the problem. after 30 days they returned the car with 75 miles test driven and showed that the tech reset the computer module prior to duplicating the issue. the service manager had me "reset" the vehicle by driving it. while driving 55mph the issue reoccurred at 100 miles after the system reset. the vehicle would not restart and was towed into the dealership. after a week they were able to duplicate "some" but not all of the issues. after speaking with the general manager of the dealership they decided to purchase the vehicle back by paying off the existing loan in exchange for purchasing a 2018 ford escape.
I was parked in a large parking lot of a grocery store. when leaving my vehicle was being put into drive, transmission went into reverse and shifter was in park. the key was able to be removed but unable to keep car secure w/o leaving parking brake on. there was no way to crank the car since it was not in park. car was completely non working. my vehicle had to be left in the parking lot and towed to a dealership for repairs. in sitting in the parking lot, with a non-functioning car waiting for a tow truck, i searched online and found the exact description of what was going on under recall 18s20. informed the dealership of this when the car was delivered to them. that was the only part that was fixed, since it was the only faulty part. ford refused to pay for the repairs since, apparently, my car was manufactured at a different plant. same make, model, etc. same part, others are paid for, just not mine. ford was not willing to compensate because the vin was not in the system for this recall at the time of my repairs. this was a safety issue and lot of wasted time, services and money. if i had known and been informed of this i could have had it fixed prior to a breakdown and would not have had to have my children with me, in a hot car, in a busy parking lot very upset. unnecessary stress for sure.
Back seats buckles with not fasten. wiring system trips multiple sensors sometimes shutting off the engine completely in the middle of traffic
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle's instrument cluster failed. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but did not assist because the vin was not included in a recall. the contact also referenced nhtsa campaign number: 15v406000 (electrical system) as a possible cause of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 46,000.
The nut connecting the battery cable to the solenoid was cross threaded at the factory causing the vehicle not to start.i feel this is a safety issue and ford does not agree.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. while attempting to drive the vehicle, the instrument panel failed to illuminate and the digital odometer failed to function. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that no recalls were associated with the vin. the contact was referred to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
On august 22, 2018, i was driving and the electronic instrument panel went blank. i drove to world ford in pensacola, fl and was told that i would need to return the following day because they were too busy to check out my problem. i returned the following day at my appointment time, and an hour and a half later, they informed me that the electronic instrument panel needs to be replaced and it would cost approximately $1,600.00. i left the dealership to do some research on this problem. i discovered that ford had issued a recall #15v406000 on june 24, 2015 for some 2014 ford escapes. when i called about this, i was told that my vin was not part of the recall and that it was not covered. ford knew that there was a software incompatibility issue that would cause a malfunction. these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard #101, "control and displays". my life is at risk by driving this vehicle with an inoperative instrument cluster. why is it, that ford fixed the problem in some 2014 escapes, but not all. why is it okay that they are allowed to place my life in danger??? i think that ford should be required to replace all faulty instrument panels, not just some of them. i fail to understand why my life is less important than other 2014 escape owners, and would appreciate your help in securing a remedy to this problem.
On 13 august 2018 my fiance was driving to our new home we're buying when smoke started coming out of the engine compartment. i told her to pull over and grab her purse and get away from the vehicle. by now flames were coming from the engine compartment. luckily she had cracked open the door before stopping because before she stopped all the doors automatically locked and could not be opened. i had arrived at the scene and the cars front end had virtually melted within 5 minutes. if my fiance had not cracked opened the door she most assuredly would have burned to death. if i had been driving i would definitely have had a difficult time escaping as i am a disabled veteran with several mobility problems. our car was less than 4 years old with only 64000 miles on it. we never expected we might possibly be injured or die from a newer vehicle. i really hope that ford motor company wasn't aware of this issue as we never received any notice of any problems whatsoever with this vehicle.
Drove the car in the morning of 8/11 just fine, in the afternoon went to start the car and it will not move out of park, dashboard states the car is in neutral. the car has been like this since since 8/11 and parked in my driveway. received a letter in the mail on 8/13 that this issue is an actual recall and when we called local ford dealer, they informed us that they don't know when they will have the part to fix our car! what can we do? we can't use the car and they can't fix it! can we simply return the car? we have an outstanding car loan and are paying for a car that's had three recalls so far since we've had it. we can't afford to keep paying uber to get to work and a car loan and car insurance for a car that no one can tell us when it will get fixed!
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. the contact stated that the instrument panel lighting system failed and the clock was unable to be read. a few days later, the contact noticed that the instrument panel color had changed and, eventually, went black. the vehicle was taken to felix sabates ford lincoln (7601 south boulevard charlotte, nc 28273, (704)-224-5854) where it was diagnosed that the instrument panel cluster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v406000 (electrical system). the failure mileage was 33,000.
I have had to replace my battery twice in this car already, it continuously shows corrosion on the battery terminals. i have been told that it appears that there is something that is constantly pulling energy but there is nothing left on and no added extras at anytime.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced difficulty shifting gears. once the gears were shifted, the vehicle experienced severe jerking. in addition, the instrument cluster independently ceased to function. the failure occurred without warning. the failure had not been diagnosed. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 52,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford escape. the contact stated that the instrument cluster was inoperative and would not illuminate. the vehicle was taken to ford lincoln of queens boulevard (139-48 queens blvd, jamaica, ny 11435, (718) 657-8888) where a new instrument cluster was ordered. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v406000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 63,809.
I got into the truck and crank it up as i was leaving work one afternoon and when i turned the radio on the display screen for the rear back up camera and radio went out.. its was flashing white and black and then black with a white line thru it after it kelly flashing turning red green orange with lime just running thru the screen.then about 10 minutes tops it was gone out.. it only takes me 12 minutes to get home from work and it didn't last that long so took it back to my dealership and they don't know what wrong with it. but i have no radio and no camera. i continued to drive around not knowing what was wrong with the truck and one night it make a spark as i was sitting with it running at a fast food drive thru. the smoke was coming from the front vents so it parked it and called the tow truck. quick towed it back to the dealer who still couldn't figure out a problem they just disconnected the wiring completely so i'm worse off as far as it goes to figure out the problem . i don't see any fixes for these issues but i've seen lots of the same complaints please help
I was driving on the interstate in the left lane going about 74 mph with my cruise control on and using my navigation when the screen suddenly went blank and the car starting slowing down and everything shut down. the traffic was very heavy and i had to swerve over 3 lanes of traffic to get to the shoulder of the road. other cars and trucks were honking their horns and swerving around me. i was very luck not to been involved in a serious accident. after i got to the shoulder of the road i tried several times to restart my vehicle and was unable to. i waited about 5 minutes and tried again to start it and was unable to do so. i called aaa and and tow truck came about 20 minutes later and when he got it it started up again. the car has a little over 33,000 miles and i bought it as a pre-owned certified car from the brandon ford dealership about 9 months ago.
I was driving on a flat road, traveling 35 mph and my check engine light came on and the car died. i had it towed to the dealership and they said the "wire repair harness 3526 cpd" had came loose. i had not ran over anything at all and the vehicle is in great shape, always maintenanced by dealer, 38,569 miles. i was told my vin was not covered by recall but online i found recalls for 2014 for escape for the wiring harness. i paid for the repair but i believe this should not occur on a 2014 vehicle and should have been covered by a recall.
I was driving up the interstate after work and while i was driving i began to notice smoke. i looked around and realized it was my car. i pulled over to the side and my car started flashing everything on the dash panel was red and flashing engine failure. i cut the car off and then went to try and pop the hood, i couldn't get it opened and i looked down and began to see flames. i called 911 and my car engulfed in flames. i had a recall on my car for a problem with the engine cylinder head saying that it could cause an engine fire if oils were to get out and hit a hot surface. i got my recall fixed and then my car caught on fire a few weeks later.
I started my vehicle yesterday to warm up and about 5-10 minutes later heard a big boom, looked out the door and the front end of my escape was completely engulfed in flames. i had scheduled it to get repaired yesterday morning, but was unable to make it as we received a lot of snow and schools were cancelled and such. i had known of the recall since last year since i already was involved in another recall with the latch. i tried to get them taken care of at the same time, but the remedy was not available and wouldn't be for some time. i received a notice directly from ford between one and two weeks ago and called ziegler in elkhart to make an appointment, but they weren't available for almost a week. it is obvious the damage was already done with my car anyway, considering the description of the recall, which a whole process of the cylinder head cracking, coolant leaking out and that potentially causing a fire in the engine compartment. i am thankful that the car was just warming up in our driveway and neither my kids nor myself were inside. i am also grateful that our house didn't catch fire and just sustained some cosmetic damage due to the heat. i do not have the report from the fire department yet, but they said it would be available soon. it was the penn township fire dept that responded and i talked to durgan spinsky whose work number is 5742555075 * (recall related incident) ts
The car suddenly stalls out. has been fixed once already but has happened numerous times sine the repair. would happen pulling out of driveway or through parking lot until this last time. i merged onto a major freeway and was up to 75-80mph and the car stalled out, almost hit by 2 semis trying to avoid re ending me on the freeeway. *tt consumer stated never had a brake failure. issue was engine stall. updated 9/4/18*jb
It only happens when you drive the car for a while (45+ minutes), turn it off, and then start it up 15-45 minutes later. it will start but then within the first 100 yards it will go sluggish and stall. when i try to give it gas that doesn't help. i have to turn the car off, put it in park and start it back up. a few times it's stalled 3 times in a row. once it gets going good it's fine. it's always fine if it's been off for a while (first thing in the morning or starting after work). eventually the service engine light came on, i took it to a shop, a guy diagnosed it, changed out a sensor and the fuel pump. it didn't help.
My vehicle keeps stalling and dying when i am driving at a slow speed (roadway or parking lot alike) , i replaced the battery to make sure that wasn't causing it and it still does it. i started to research the issue and apparently there was a recall for that model for the wiring harness and the description matches my issue. i called the dealership and was told that my vehicle does not have the recall. i did more research and there are numerous accounts of dealerships stating this is not a recall and some people were almost injured because of this. vehicles stopping while driving is very dangerous. this recall definitely needs to be expanded. the code reported for this is tsp 13-12-12. please look at these links: http://www.fordescape.org/forum/engine-technical-discussion/22274-engine-stalling-cutting-out-while-driving.html https://jalopnik.com/ford-focus-st-forum-complaints-result-in-wiring-harnes-1622529308 http://www.carproblemzoo.com/ford/escape/wiring-problems.php
