Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2010 Ford Escape

I was driving along & suddenly lost all throttle. a wrench appeared on my instrument panel & it was running very rough. i was able to idle over into a parking lot, but had no throttle power. i shut the vehicle off & just sat there, thinking about my options. i tried to start it & it started, so i drove it straight to a shop, where they hooked it up to their diagnostic machine. the wrench in the instrument panel was no longer there & the vehicle didn't throw any codes. the mechanic told me to drive it & contact ford that next day. i called the ford dealer & was told there are no recalls on this. since june, this has happened several times & it finally threw a code in which the engine light came on, so i had my mechanic take a look at it. he removed the throttle body & cleaned the plates. it seemed to do much better, until a couple weeks ago. it's started it again & is now happening much more frequently. on 08/27/2013, i was driving on a highway in the passing lane, going about 60 mph when it happened again. i could have been rear-ended! i was able to limp it over to the shoulder, where i shut it off, waited, & then started it back up again. it happened three times in about a 15 mile period on 09/06/2013 & two times on 09/08/2013. on 09/06/2013, i again called the local ford dealer & spoke to someone in parts. i was told the part i needed was recalled & was also on back order (3,800 parts behind). i called back to speak to someone in the service department & was told the parts person was wrong, because the part had not been recalled, although he had three cars there waiting on the same part for the same exact problem. if this is a known constant problem, why hasn't there been a recall? someone is going to get hurt in a rear-ender accident & i hope it's not me. *tr

Twice in less than 24 hours, the car went into "limp home" mode complete with wrench indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the engine dropped and would not come above 1000 rpm, and would allow the vehicle to lurch forward at no more than 15-20 miles per hour. the first incident occurred on 6/24 at an intersection, upon the light turning green. as i accelerated to go through the intersection, the vehicle dropped into "limp" mode and forced a left turn to park and turn off the engine. doing so and allowing it to sit for a few minutes got it to reset and not happen again on my way home. the second occurrence was the morning of 6/25, in the middle of i-95 on my way to work; approximate speed was 55-60 miles per hour. thankfully, i was in the far right lane and able to drift to the shoulder to repeat last night's procedure. considering the negative press the "limp home" mode and throttle body assembly get from various forums recounting very similar occasions to my own experience, this needs to be a recall before somebody gets killed! a tsb or "suggested solution" is not enough! *tr

My 2010 ford escape limited has completely lost power when driving on four different occasions. the vehicle will be running find and then you suddenly lose all power. i took the vehicle to my local dealer and they informed me that it was a problem with the electronic throttle body. they also informed me that they did not have the replacement part and were unsure of when they could get it. i find it very dangerous driving a vehicle that could suddenly lose power at anytime. although i believe ford should have to replace these defective parts, ford could at least be responsible enough to have these parts so that i could at least pay to have my vehicle fixed. *tr

On june 23, 2013 driving on street about 25 m.p.h. when car suddenly dropped in speed to almost an idle. after pulling to side of road, was able to turn around and return home at about 1 m.p.h. fortunately, there were no vehicles behind me, otherwise, because of the abrupt stopping of the vehicle a rear end accident would have occurred. ford roadside service towed car to kindle ford, cape may court house, nj on monday june 24, 2013. i was later advised by the service department that the vehicle needed a throttle body assembly at a cost of $378.00 and that it was not covered under the power train warranty period. worse yet, i was told that the part was back ordered, service could give no date when the part would be available, as it was on nationwide back order and could be several weeks or more before the part was available. no loner car was offered for use during this unreasonable delay. *tr

For the last couple of weeks while at stop lights or when the car was just idling i notice the car would shake/sputter/hesitate, like it was not getting enough fuel to the engine to idle, every once in a while but it did not stall out completely it would recover. then while driving home on june 23, 2013 at 40mph i took my foot off of the gas pedal for a second to begin to slow down as i was approaching a red light, however, the light changed before i got to the intersection and then the car made a shutter/thud not a loud sound but you knew something has just happened, i thought maybe my transmission had just gone out because when i was pressed on the gas pedal it did not respond. i pushed the pedal all the way to the floor but nothing happened. i could not tell if the car really stalled out it seemed more like the gas pedal was just not responding. i lost speed rapidly and coasted into a parking lot. the first time i restarted the car the gas pedal still did not work but the car did go into gear so i thought it must not be the transmission. the second time i restarted the car i gave the gas pedal a couple of pumps before putting into gear to make sure it was responding that worked and i made it home. the car did hesitate and sputter when i was sitting still at the lights so i would put it in park and rev the engine until the light changed. i took the car to a ford dealership the next day and they informed me that the throttle body needs to be replaced and of course that is an out of pocket expense as my warranty is expired. how many of these complaint have to be filed before ford has to admit this is there fault for putting faulty throttle bodies in these cars and issues a recall ? *tr

When driving to the grocery store on sunday, june 23, my boyfriend and i pulled up to a stop sign and then attempted to accelerate to cross 4 lanes of traffic. the car bucked and would not accelerate. then the gas pedal began to shake. we had to roll across the street and shut the car off for a few minutes. the car turned over twice and then finally started up. the second incident happened on thursday, june 27. my boyfriend and i were on our way home and pulled up to a stop sign. again, pushing on the gas pedal would not cause the car to accelerate. we had to roll across the intersection and turn the car off. the car turned over about 3 or 4 times and then started. we took the car into a local ford dealership on tuesday, july 2, and were told after a few hours of waiting, that the car has a throttle body issue. the dealer told us the part costs $399 and the labor would be $100. we had to pay $244.05 up front and we were told that the part is on backorder and will take approximately 1 month to come in. my car also has low enough mileage (29,400) that it still has a 5 year powertrain warranty (which covered the engine) but were told that warranty doesn't cover the throttle body. so now, we are out $244 (it will be at least $500 once the part comes in) and don't have the use of our car (we are a one car family) with no relatives, etc. close by to borrow a car from. *tr

While driving home from louisville headed back to cincinnati my daughter experienced our vehicle stalling out at highway speeds 3 different times. she was able to work her way over to the side of the road and restart the vehicle each time. however this was very scary as at highway speeds the sudden loss of power and speed caused traffic to almost rear end her vehicle on two of the three occasions. when i contacted the local ford dealer upon safely returning home they made it sound like it was an issue with the throttle body and that this is a very common problem in these vehicles. i was also told by my son that i needed to report this because this is a widespread problem. he did a quick google search and was able to see the investigation into this issue. please do something about this before there is innocent loss of life. *tr

Driving normal hwy speeds, throttle shuts down. wrench indicator lights. have to try to get off of hwy on to shoulder. when stopped, engine still runs but very rough and the throttle does nothing. after turning the engine off the problem resets and runs fine for approx 20 miles or more. then the same thing happens again. the problem then progressively gets worse. have read that this is a huge issue and needs t be addressed before someone gets injured or killed. *tr

I was driving along and all of a sudden my 2010 ford escape went from around 35 mph on a busy road to a rough idle. the engine was still running but would not respond to pressing on the gas pedal, it just stayed running on a rough idle. i continued on at 3 miles an hour waving cars to pass me until i found a safe place to pull over. i waited 20 minutes before starting the vehicle and it then ran normally. so i went on and about 5 miles further it did it again. i had to pull over and i restated the engine in just a few minutes again. it did it again and again sometimes i would only need to shut it off for a second. i took it into the ford dealer and they charged me $125.00 for a diagnostic test to tell me it was the throttle body (ford would not cover the test). they didn't have the part in stock and told me it was on back order as the ford chicago warehouse was out of them. the ford service writer also told me they have replaced a number of them since his hiring just three months prior. he first told me a dirty air filter caused the part to fail, when i explained to him i know what a dirt air filter is and i don't have one. then he said it was because i didn't drive my car enough and there was carbon buildup causing it. so i asked him if ford was saying they don't build a good enough engine. he admitted he was just reading the print out. they wouldn't honor my power-train warranty of 5 years or 50,000 miles. i wrote a letter and personally delivered it to the ford dealer and no one has bothered to contact me and it's been eight days now. the mechanic actually tried to sell me tires and gave me bogus reasons why the back two needed to be replaced and the back to have 7/32 left according to a real tire store's salesman and are almost like new. i have been a loyal ford man all my life. i may never buy another ford and it will not be from this dealership if i do! *tr

Driving at 40mph, lost power. was told today at ford service dept that it is a failed throttle body. *tr

Accelerator stuck on off ramp and tried to push the vehicle through the intersection. this has happened on three different occasions. ford dealer can not duplicate problem. *tr

Driving on interstate i-95 car stopped accelerating and engine went to idle speed - barely managed to avoid getting hit by other cars on highway and limped home at approx 5 mph - vehicle was checked by bonell ford in winchester ma. ford has indicated that the parts for repair are on national backorder note that the ford dealer i purchased this car from bonell ford in winchester ma. has 3 other ford escape's waiting for the same parts - this is a serious safety issue and this vehicle should be recalled before someone is killed. *tr

The vehicle stalled while driving on the highway at 60 mph. *tr

On multiple occasions my 2010 ford escape has stalled. the first couple of times it would turn off while i was at a red light or at a stop sign, it then started turning off while i was in active driving. multiple times while i was on the highway. the vehicle diagnosis resulted defects with the throttle body particularly part 9e926 - body asy-air charge. the warranty documentation states the part is not a covered repaired in my state however it is covered in california up to 7 years or 70,000 miles. the part required is currently on national backorder. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the vehicle hesitated and then independently accelerated with the illumination of the check engine warning light. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 57,000. *tr

Driving during favorable conditions, after stop for traffic signal car began to lunge during take off acceleration. the powetrain/throttle control light on dash illuminated. had vehicle towed to dealership where they diagnosed bad throttle body and reported shortage of part, anticipating 30 day wait for availability. *tr

Was driving on the highway when car lurched forward and then proceeded to coast. i pressed gas pedal but nothing happened. i had to steer through traffic to get to the shoulder where the car started to stumble like it was going to die. i shut off engine and restarted, it started normal so i proceeded home. i had less than a mile to home yet it died 2 more times. this is a huge safety problem seeing how you're dead in the water when the car malfunctions! it takes a lot to scare me but seeing how i was responsible for the safety of my wife and 4 yr old son, it scared me half to death! *tr

While driving on the interstate at highway speed the vehicle suddenly lost all power. the engine warning lights came on and it had no accelerator response. managed to pull over onto shoulder, turned off the engine waited a moment and it restarted and ran normally. while i was fortunate enough to pull over safely, this could be a very dangerous situation when you have no control of the vehicle. at first it happened just once or twice making me think. it was just bad gasoline or a fuel filter. over the months since it has gotten worse and i learned of the throttle body defect. *tr

The vehicle either stalled or went into safe or limp home mode while traveling around 70 mph on the interstate. this happened during a busy traffic time causing other vehicles to brake hard to avoid an accident. i with my 3 year old son were stranded on the side of the highway until someone was able to get the car back home for me. it was a scary and dangerous situation. p2112 was the code that was read when we had it looked at. apparently an issue with the throttle body. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated while driving 60 mph, the vehicle lost power. the contact drove the vehicle onto the emergency lane and restarted it but the failure recurred. a certified mechanic looked at the vehicle and stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 59,800.

2010 ford escape bought new and taken back to dealership as the vehicle jumps forward. dealership could not find problem. within last two weeks vehicle is losing gas pedal power while driving. the vehicle does not stall. if you apply the gas the vehicle jumps forward. the computer code is p2112. vehicle was surging forward when a dog ran across the road. couldn't control vehicle. very busy road and trying to get out of the way. bumper had to be repaired and car is still losing power and surging when you apply gas. *tr

Driving in town and vehicle would not accelerate. turned off engine and restarted. vehicle ran fine for only a few blocks and had to restart again. next day the vehicle would only go about 1 block before we had to restart it. it needs a new electronic throttle body and no parts are available. there is a national backorder per ford parts department. *tr

My vehicle loses all power while pressing the accelerator. i had it diagnosed with problem code p2111. a very dangerous situation to be put in while operating a vehicle. the only way to solve the problem is to stop the engine, then restart. *tr

I was driving on the interstate at about 70 mph. suddenly, without notice the car began to slow down and depressing accelerated did nothing. i was able to coast to the shoulder where the car continued to idle roughly with the wrench indicator light on. i turned the ignition off and waited a few seconds. i started the car and engine ran somewhat normally. same issue occurred on return trip a few hours later. took to ford dealer who diagnosed as needed the throttle body replaced. said the part was on back order and would probably take 4 weeks to get it. this issue could result in very serious injury if it occurs in heavy traffic conditions. *tr

Made turn into traffic, speed was about 30 mph. went to accelerate, no power. engine rpms dropped. stepped on gas pedal to accelerate . no response. drifted over to side of road. placed into neutral and tried to increase rpms. no response. turned off ignition to call for aid as the roadway was busy, then tried to restart car . car started normally. rpms resumed normal. placed car into drive and drove off normally. happened again on three different occasions. happened the other night three times. deemed the car unsafe to drive. waiting for an appointment to get repaired. on line forums indicate there is a problem with the throttle, whether it be a sensor or communication with the on board computed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate unexpectedly. the wrench warning symbol illuminated at the time of the malfunction. the engine was then turned off and restarted, as the vehicle resumed normally. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 59,600. the vin was unavailable.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis. the technician stated that the throttle body would have to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 55,000. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled and could not be restated. the check engine and the power train warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the failure was reported to the manufacturer and they stated that the part was on back order. the failure and current mileage was 43,000. the consumer stated while driving, she suddenly felt the vehicle loose power even though she was pressing on the accelerator. the wrench and engine light illuminated on the dash.

For a couple weeks previous to the final incident, while coming to a stop, the car would stutter then turn off...one time while driving 80mph on the highway. the final time i was pulling out of a gas station and the car started stuttering, then shut off in the middle of the intersection with just enough power to get to a turn-off. the check engine light came on and the yellow wrench. the car would not start for approximately 45 min. i was able to make it around the corner from the ford dealership and pushed it the remaining way. ford is saying it is a throttle body issue and the part is on an emergency nationwide backorder which may take 3 weeks to 6 months to get the part...and it's not covered under warranty because it is considered 'normal wear and tear,' according to ford. i am about to make my fourth, yes, fourth payment on the escape. *tr

Was driving about 60mph on in mountains of maryland, 3hrs from home when vehicle started to hesitate and then i had no power at all even though i was depressing pedal. seemed to be idling and coasting. was nearly rear ended....pulled over to emerg lane quite shaken up vehicle was idling vary rough. wrench light was on. shut off vehicle, waited about 10min. then restarted light was off. book idicated powertrain or throttle issue. was able to drive for about 20-30 minutes then same thing occured. this happened about 4 times. made it to a dealer and had someone pick me up. 38000 miles on the vehicle - absolutely no reason for this part to fail. had regulaer maintanance and even had throttle body cleaned and reprogram done as part of a technicain bulletin. part has been back ordered for 3 weeks. still no vehicle. there is a definite vehicle safety issue here. somebody is going to be killed in an accident by losing all power in the middle of driving. this is a defective part that ford needs to recall and address immediately!!! *tr

We where traveling northbound on i675 traveling at 70 mph when the vehicle started to lose speed went into limp mold. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated while driving 55 mph, the vehicle decelerated without warning with the illumination of the maintenance light. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing where they stated the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 55,500. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph the vehicle would not accelerate. the contact drove the vehicle onto the emergency lane and turned it off. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and it functioned normally. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing; however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000. *tr

I was driving on the parkway and suddenly started losing speed, like there was no gas getting in, and the wrench light went on. i was lucky enough to be able to pull over and turn the car off. it started up again and i was able to get back home and apprehensively drove it to the dealer 2 days later. it took them 2 days to figure it out but they said it was the throttle body and it was back ordered. they gave me no time frame on when i might expect the part in so at the moment it's still at the dealer. i'm lucky enough to have another car to use but i doubt they'll give me a loaner car for weeks and weeks or however long it takes to get the part in. there needs to be a recall because i refuse to drive an unsafe vehicle! *tr

Was driving home wed june 12, turned a corner (going approx 5-10mph) and the car just turned off. pulled over and waited a minute then it started right up; drove it home (approx 3/4 mile) and it just "died" again in my driveway. next morning i was taking it in to the shop to see what the problem could be and as i drove up the entrance, vehicle again just died! (had it checked, nothing found) approx 3 weeks later, june 27, i was going down the freeway approx 65mph getting ready to exit and the car completely went dead (fortunately i could pull over so i did not get hit). i stopped put it in park, waited a minute and then it started right up again. took it to the ford dealer the following morning, june 28, and was told it needed a new electronic throttle body which is on back order 3-4 weeks! i was also advised that the car was really too dangerous to drive so they recommended that i try not to drive it till the part comes in!! good if you have 2 vehicles!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where it was advised that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000. *tr

I was driving under normal driving conditions on the expressway when the car suddenly jerked and i no longer could accelerate and the service engine light on the dashboard began flashing. fortunately, i was able to get on to the shoulder and call a tow truck. it was due to a faulty throttle body. per the dealer where my vehicle was towed to, the part needed was on ford's national backorder list and they did not know when the part would become available. it took 5 weeks to get the part. it has only been about 7 weeks and my car did the same jerk on the expressway again today. i was able to continue driving to work as no service lights ignited on the dashboard, but i will be taking my vehicle in to get checked again. *jb

The first time the suv completely lost acceleration at 45mph. it was extremely dangerous. i was on a bridge & the emergency lane was so narrow that traffic was within inches of me. i sat for a while and then restarted the vehicle. i feel fortunate to have made it off the bridge without being in an accident. i made an appointment with my dealership, but before my appointment date i had to make an extended trip out-of-state. the second time it occurred was even worse. it occurred exactly one week later. i was taking my husband to the atlanta airport. less than 40 miles of the airport and while driving 75 mph, it completely lost acceleration again. i was able to steer the vehicle off to the side of the road. we sat for a short while. i restarted the vehicle. we took the next exit and barely made it to a ford dealership. after sitting in a hotel for three days, we finally learned that the throttle body part is not available anywhere! and to make matters worse, the ford dealership in lagrange refuses to provide transportation and expects us to foot the bill for a 3 week or longer rental car (the part will not be released until july 2). the dealership will not even tell us when we can expect our vehicle to be fixed! and they expect us to pay for labor and the defective throttle body, too! this defective part is going to cost us: an airline cancellation fee - $100; 2 nights of non-refundable hotel rooms (i was continuing on from atlanta to visit a relative) - $130; 2 additional nights of hotel in lagrange $140; rental car - $588 (and will be higher, i'm afraid); 2 additional tanks of gas $90 (i have to return the rental car to ga from fl); the repair & part - $500-$600. i don't understand why i am responsible for paying for an obviously defective part and why a dealership would be so unwilling to provide transportation to us for a problem that we didn't create. *tr

My 2010 ford escape is going into limp mode while driving. it just stops responding to the accelerator and limps along until i can pull off the road and turn the car off. in the beginning, i could start the car back up and drive home. but it is beginning to happen more often and now i cannot drive it at all. *tr

It was taken to dealership for repair and i was told they have zero throttle bodies for this car for 4 to 6 months maybe longer. and in researching this there are alot of people with the same problem i'm having and they don't seem to care about resolving the issue. just keep making your payments on the car and rent you another so you can get back and forth to work to pay for it. even tho i have warranty coverage still cannot get a loaner car till they can get the parts to fix this thing. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle suddenly stalled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the throttle body had failed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 20,250.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford escape. the contact stated that the check engine light illuminated as the vehicle lost power and would not accelerate over 2 mph. the contact stated that the failure happened three times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer determined the throttle body needed to be replaced. the dealer stated the repair would take 1.5 weeks because the part needed to complete the repair was on back order. the failure and current mileages were 39,000. *tr

Three time within 5 miles the vehicle stopped accelerating and giving it more gas did nothing. i would have to coast to the side of the road and hope no one hit me in traffic. i took the car to a mechanic and he said the throttle body was faulty. *tr

I had not had my vehicle for 3 months before experiencing a problem. on several occasions, i was driving and my suv lost power. each time, i had to pull off to the side, wait a few minutes, cut the csuv off and then back on until the car would start again. this made my travel very dangerous on the highway. took my suv to the dealership and at first they could not find what was wrong with it because the error had not registered. i had to wait until the check engine light came on to discover it was the throttle body. i had to pay over $300 to get it replaced. it took awhile for ford ran out of the part and had to order it from their warehouse. luckily, the repair shop was able to find a replacement within 2 days. after having the throttle body replaced, it takes a while for the suv to shift into gear and often feels like it is stalling or dragging. *tr

I was stopped at a red light preparing to turn right. while at a complete stop, the vehicle jolted forward momentarily and again came to a stop. i turned right and immediately my accelerator failed and the car would only move forward at a speed less than 5 miles per hour. i coasted into a parking lot where i turned off the vehicle and restarted it. it accelerated normally for a moment before failing again. the warning light that appeared was correlated with the power train, per the vehicle's instruction manual. when inspected by a ford dealership, the mechanic said the throttle system had failed and needed to be replaced. all inspections and services related to the vehicle were up-to-date and there were no other problems detected. no one was injured. *tr

Wife was driving home and her vehicle stalled. she was able to get out of traffic and into a parking lot, where she had her car towed to the nearest dealer. dealer told her the issue was with the throttle body. *tr

I bought our car brand new on april of 2010. on 06/08/13 (3pm) we were in turnpike running 70 mph when suddenly the car slowly lost speed eventually we stopped on the side and at the same time the engine lights symbol came on. we turn it back on and drove approx 10 miles and it happened again. everytime the engine turned off we can always turn it back on and drive few miles. we decided, for us to at least get home (6pm) we have to drive on city limit 45 mph, and it never game us a problem. because on those incidents on the same day we decided to send our car the next day to the ford service center. after 24 hrs 06/10/13 they called that it is the throttle body that they need to replace. until now we are still waiting on the parts and of course pay an estimate of $582. *tr

The auto "jumped" then decelerated immediately. i had to move from middle lane to right then off the road with only coasting-no fuel power at all. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled as the battery and mil check engine warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the parts where not available. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 44,000. *tr

While making left hand turn vehicle abruptly stalled, yellow warning light showed fault with powertrain. vehicle was towed to dealer on 6/10/2013 still waiting for throttle body assembly three days. *tr
