We have classified the 552 complaints from 2010 Ford Escape about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle experienced a loss of power, jerked, and the wrench icon illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact managed to veer to the shoulder of the road. when the vehicle was turned off and restarted, it resumed normal operation. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the throttle body failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vin was not included in a recall. the dealer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
When the vehicle comes to a stop whether it be a stop sign or red light, the rpm's over rev higher at the time of leaving from a stop when gas is given to vehicle. after the vehicle gets back up to speed the rpm's drop back to a normal range.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that the transmission failed to handle rapid acceleration when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the transmission remained in a higher gear despite the driver decelerating and the vehicle surged to a high rate of speed, which increased the risk of a crash. the contact heard an abnormal noise, the transmission was hesitant, and the vehicle lunged forward without warning. the contact had to drive in first gear (less than 25 mph) because of the failure. dewey moore ford (143 tx-49, hughes springs, tx 75656, (903) 639-2516) diagnosed that the transmission assembly needed to be replaced and no transmission recalls were issued for this year, make, and model vehicle. the manufacturer issued nine technical service bulletins regarding the power train. the manufacturer was notified and stated that this year and model vehicle was not included in a recall campaign. no further assistance was offered. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
2010 ford escape was pulling out of a parking spot, foot off the accelerator, but vehicle proceeded to gain speed and go forward striking another vehicle. unintended acceleration
Driving under normal conditions, approx. 45 mph, 2 lane road entering village, car suddenly lost power and entered limp home mode. wrench light illuminated on the dash. made it home, but had to pull over to the side of the road several times to regain marginal power to be able to go up hills. diagnostic testing at the garage revealed electronic throttle body failure, necessitating a replacement.
In at least 5 incidents i have experienced sudden acceleration. 3 times it has happened while entering a highway. it has happened at least twice in town. in every incident i was accelerating when it would occur. the foot peddle depressed without any pressure to the gas. my foot was not on the break. i have also experienced bucking on numerous occasions when going in reverse. i believe the problem is the electronic throttle control system. i purchased this car used from a local dealer. they never disclosed any issues with my vehicle. i have looked online and called a ford dealer but cannot find a recall on this issue. it is a very real issue. feel free to come test drive my car! it is not a matter of if it will happen but when it will happen. july 17, 2017 was the most recent incident of sudden acceleration.
While at highway speeds, car rmps become erratic and no response from gas peddle. car goes idle and then stalls. vehicle must be restarted. yellow 'wrench' light comes on however once the car is restarted, it is no longer illuminated. no codes available from computer scan.
No response from accelerator pedal. turn off car after several minutes then restarted ok.
Had to have throttle body replace for second time first time in december 1 2015 same issue occurred january 13 2017 first time paid nothing but that was after me having to inform them of the 13n03 customers satisfaction from ford. this time had to pay 100 dollars as they call it deductible this car is a 2010 has less than 60,000 mile on its third throttle body . well my complaint is if its the same issue twice why am i having to pay for it at all . both times this happened was light city traffic and both times when my wife was on the way to pick up our children from school and while traveling under 40 mph i want my family safe god forbid it happen on freeway far from home please please resolve both issues thank you *tr
Throttle body "secret" recall: for more than a year my gas pedal wouldn't work when accelerating after being stopped at random times, sometimes going months before it did it again, other times doing it multiple times during a 2 mile trip. it never set off any codes relating to the issue. four mechanics over a year looked at the vehicle including the dealership and fixed multiple things and the car continued to die while i was driving it, usually in heavy traffic. after spending $600+, ford finally decided to try a new part (throttle body), which was free to me because of a recall that was not advertised. after a week, this seems to have fixed the issue. now i have paid $600+ for parts that weren't causing the issue and spent a year trying to solve the issue. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle independently decelerated to 30 mph without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the throttle body was contaminated and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 85,000.
Gas pedal becomes unresponsive without warning. brakes work but shake car when i try and slow down. car seems ok after turning engine off and back on. i bought this 2010 escape pre-owned in 2013 and this happened the day we got it. dealership replaced the electronic throttle body and it has been fine until about a week ago when same issue has happened twice in a week. dealership is replacing the electronic throttle body once again for free. it concerns me that this is having to be replaced a second time. if a manufacturer is aware of a known safety issue like this and they replace the part, i'm expecting whatever was inherently wrong with the part causing it to fail to be fixed. now i'm wondering how long until it has to be replaced again or if it will go out during high traffic on the highway putting my wife in harms way without any way to control the speed of the vehicle.
*p2111 throttle actuator control system-stuck open* the first time it happened i was pulling on to the highway from a side road when i went to accelerate my car started to shake and jerk then lost power. i was able to limp it to a side street where i turned it off and then tried turning it back on again, my car wouldn't turn over at first and took three times before it finally cam back on with no problems at all and i took it back home where it stayed till a friend could come look at it. nothing was found at first. the second time this happened i was driving down the road and i started to lose power i was able to pull into o'reily's where they hooked it up to the computer and came up with the code listed above.
On 8/24/2016 my ford escape lost power, accelerator not working, while driving 65 mph on freeway. the wrench light came on. after turning off and on engine, it worked fine.it happened twice within 10 minutes. ford dealer fixed it by replacing electronic throttle body for on 8/30/2016. on 10/10/2016 it happened twice again and ford dealer did nothing because they couldn't find anything wrong on it. now it is ok, not sure if it will happen later.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving 30 mph, the service vehicle soon warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle lost power. the contact mentioned that the failure recurred on ten separate occasions. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage and vin were unknown.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle independently shifted into limp home mode. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it diagnosed that the vehicle needed a software update. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the contact manually replaced the throttle body. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000. the vin was not provided
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and lost power on several occasions. the contact also stated that the brake pedal stalled and the vehicle accelerated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 64,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate when depressing the accelerator pedal. the driver coasted to the side of the road, restarted the vehicle, and resumed driving. the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that a code p2112 failed, and the throttle body stock closed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact referenced action number: pd12006. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 145,000.
All of a sudden the engine starts to rev up when i am waiting at a traffic light or driving. it scares me that i push on the brake more as i am waiting for traffic light to change or when i am driving i take my foot off the gas pedal because am afraid of going faster.
Turned right onto freeway onramp with slight incline, after driving a couple of miles. made it about 20 feet when the accelerator pedal stopped working. unable to coast out of lane of traffic due to incline and was almost hit by multiple vehicles during rush hour. two red warning lights on dash (i think engine oil and battery). nothing stopped besides the gas pedal (radio, a/c were still running). put vehicle in park and turned off. was able to immediately restart and accelerator pedal worked again. vehicle had new throttle body related to csp 13n03 at 41,000 miles. current mileage 90,000.
For about a month, when i would first begin to leave my residence, the ford escape would surge forward maybe 5 to 10 feet while already in motion on the street. then the escape stalled completely when i slowed down to make a turn... thank god i did not turn in front of some on-coming vehicles. the escape has also felt like it wanted to stall several other times while driving around town before it finally did just before that turn i already mentioned. ford has not offered to buy this vehicle back (outside of a trade-in for a new purchase) but i sure wish to god they would. i had the vehicle looked at by ford & they had to replace the throttle body for the third/3rd time! it is under a 150,000 mile recall for this very problem. our vehicle has just over 70,000 miles & we have had to have the throttle body replaced 3 times! we bought the escape brand new... nearly $40,000 with all the bells & whistles... i think we average about 8,000 miles before each major problem... insane.... disgusting.
The vehilcle went into a mode where it was able to keep throttling and was about to stall. it would throttle up and down on its own while moving. powering off the vehicle corrected the issue for the time being.
While driving my wife's 2010 ford escape in on i40 in heavy traffic the vehicle lost acceleration and the "wrench" check engine light illuminated. everything else with the vehicle seemed to be functioning ok however i could not accelerate or maintain the speed at which i had been traveling. this was during rush hour traffic on 10/29/15 with my wife and a coworker in the vehicle. i shut the vehicle off and restarted it however the problem persisted the vehicle would not move forward, until 20 or so minutes later. i drove the rest of the way home and had the engine error codes read code p2112 throttle body actuator systems closed shut error appeared. this happened without warning on a major highway in heavy traffic my wife coworker and self could have been killed.
My car sometimes suddenly just losing power. i could get killed on the freeway. from researching a bit i see it has something to do with the throttle body control. this has happened two time in the last two weeks. once as we get getting ready to get on the freeway and the second time as we were crossing a busy intersection, luckily we were able to get across the road without getting hit. i am afraid i have bought an unsafe car.
While driving my tool light came on and car lost power. pulled over to side of the road and turned off car. restarted car and light was off then car drove fine. took my car into bickford fford and was told they can't do anything because the light wasn't on so they can't get a code. how am i suppose to get get the extended warranty on throttle body issues if the light goes away when the car is turned off? i can't drive the car when this happens so how am i suppose to get this covered by ford? i'm suppose to drive my car with unsafe conditions until it permanently breaks down? seems like a scam.
On august 31, 2015 i was leaving an airport and accelerating to merge onto a highway. i believe i was close to 60mph when i felt something in my car change. all of the electronics were still working, so i knew it was not an issue with my battery. the wrench light appeared and i realized i was no longer able to accelerate. i immediately got over to the right lane and by this time my speed had dropped to 40mph. i was able to safely pull over and put my car into park. the rpms spiked and i turned my car off. after waiting a minute or so i was able to restart my car with no problem. i got back onto the highway and took my exit. maybe 5-7 miles from the location of the first incident, i was driving approximately 40mph down a 2-lane street when the same thing happened. this time both the wrench light and the engine light were on. once again i pulled over, put my car into park, the rpm's spiked higher this time. i shut my car off. i was again able to restart my car right away with no problem. in the 9 days since this happened i haven't experienced this problem again. i am extremely nervous my engine will shut off on a highway again, in a location where i will not be able to pull over safely. when i called ford they said my warranty covers the throttle body, so they have scheduled the throttle body repair for september 11, 2015. this is a very common problem, and i think ford needs to address this for the safety of all drivers.
the problem demonstrated as i left the shopping center and made the first turn onto the street. the engine was very rough and not consistent, the speed varied from 20 - 40 miles per hr without any pressure to the accelerator. as i came to a red traffic light i had almost no brake pressure and prepared to turn into a school parking lot. this occurred in the first half mile of country road; as i realized i had no braking power i turned into a park lot and called for a tow truck. fortunately there was little traffic that evening. this produced unnecessary anxiety for me even though i was close to home. our mechanic checked many things, finally deciding it was diagnostic codes po306, po316, po109, po 300, and po304. ford tells me this is not under warranty. once again i felt this problem placed me in a potentially life-threatening situation for me as the throttle body had done previously (before the recall). i have nearly 3 computer pages of problems with this vehicle, ranging from seat belt latches, rear seat latches, hatch latch and defroster, quarter panel paint defect and rust, fan speed and effectiveness. this latest incident and the throttle body issues are the most serious. tonight ford informed me there is no ford complaint form online. i was adamant that a ford engineer needs to call me so i can discuss all the issues with this vehicle. trade in value on this vehicle has probably plummeted due to all the issues. this vehicle was paid off in 3 years and i am not in a position to buy a new vehicle but i hope it will not be the death of me. in the interest of public safety i hope these problems can be resolved. after all the issues with this escape i wonder how many car "accidents" are really "accidents". thank you for reviewing this data. *tr
Was completely stopped and took off slightly pressing the gas peddle and it felt like it tried to stall out and then lunged forward. the service wrench came on and we stopped and turned the vehicle off then started it again and that time both service wrench and service engine light came on. went in to get the engine light tested and the result was throttle actuator control and throttle body range, code p2119
Tell us what happened: was completely stopped and took off slightly pressing the gas pedal and it felt like it tried to stall out and then lunged forward. the service wrench came on and we stopped and turned the vehicle off then started it again and that time both service wrench and service engine light came on. went in to get the engine light tested and the result was throttle actuator control and throttle body range, code p2119
I had my escape in for the recall to have the throttle body updated in 8/6/2014. at the time of the recall i had not had any problems with the throttle. 1 year later while driving on the highway i lost acceleration, my cruise went off and the wrench light came on, pulled over and started it up again,no wrench light. happens again. also when i slow down and stop for lights, stop sign the rpms go up and down like it's going to kill. made appointment to have it checked, of course i will get stuck paying for it but will fight till my dying day. ford get your [xxx] together and fix this issue. as soon as i can i will sell and not buy another ford product for the rest of my life. social network here i come. i will holler at the tops of my lungs so every one hears how ford sucks. i will update after the appointment with the ford dealership!!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
We lost power from our gas pedal. then it got hot. then it would not move.
I was stopped at a traffic light, with the brake engaged, and my car lunged forward into the car ahead of me, damaging it's liftgate (minivan) and bumper. i initially thought someone must have rear-ended my car, pushing me into the other car, but i was not hit from behind. my foot was on the brake the entire time. i am concerned this might happen again, injuring someone possibly in a crosswalk, or lunging me into cross traffic.
The first time it happened, we were on our way to a funeral, an hour away, driving our 2010 escape about 55 mph. everything was fine and then the car jerked, the wrench light came on - had no acceleration, no power steering, no control. it was scary! luckily, my husband was able to pull to the side of the road without incident. turned the car off and said a prayer of thanks! car started back up after a couple of minutes, although not easily. did the same thing on our way back home. suffice it to say, this problem continued to happen. found out the car is going into "safe mode". my husband drives an hour to work (each way), all highway, approx. 70-75 mph and about halfway through his commute, the problem will happen. he has to get out of the way of the other drivers and find a safe spot to park. not always an easy task on the highway. took the car to the local ford dealership for this problem and other recall work (14s05 and 13b17). they told us they would take care of the issues. the next day, the wrench light came on, the check engine light is on and same problem still happens, although now the car drives in a lower gear and eventually you can accelerate, but not quickly. still not safe on the highway. found out today, dealership will look at the diagnostic code for $70 to see if there is a problem. ridiculous!! they aren't the ones in an unsafe car!
While driving at a regular speed of aprx 60mph, my car would make impulses and accelerate by itself.on a couple of times, i almost rear ended the cars ahead of me. and when i would come to a stop sign or red light, my car would stop in the middle of the road. took it for an inspection, the told me it was the trottle what was giving me a problem. i looked up online and it seems like this is a very common problem for ford escapes 2010. please take care of this. its an awful feeling when you are driving on a curb at 60 mph and suddenly your car accelerates. don't wait until someone gets hurt to do something about this. its always better and cheaper to prevent problems instead of fixing them.
I was driving on the road and my gas pedal went soft. i could not get any speed and i had to pull over in order to avoid from being hit in the middle of traffic.now my car is in the shop which cost money.
I pulled out of my street on to a main road and with no warning my escape shut off completely while driving and multiple cars almost hit me because it was so unexpected. now my car randomly shuts off and goes into limp mode, causing it to be quite dangerous to drive my vehicle because it gives you no warning.
Driving normally, throttle control powertrain warning light comes on, check engine light comes on, car gas pedal does not work, engine idles and does not accelerate. when you shut the car all the way off and wait then restart the engine the car works as normal again. *tr
Turn into a parking space and hit the brake to stop , car surged forward and jumped the curb. hit a bus shelter, side swiped a tree , then jump curb back to parking lot before escape came to a full stop. first time sled on a small patch of ice car surged brakes never took hold slid and avoided and street light and a tree before coming to a full stop. took car to shop for oil change had brakes checked said no problem. but sometimes this suv has a power surge when appling brakes. *tr
When driving primarily at low or declining speeds as in anticipation of a stop light or turn into my driveway, when i slow down and then slightly accelerate (either into the driveway or if the light changes before i have fully stopped), i notice a stall or pause in acceleration. this has happened a number of times but i only recently realized the consistent scenario. i had possibly the same symptom at higher speed when driving on the freeway, noticing the speed would seem to fluctuate oddly while in rapid and quick succession like it was trying to decide whether to accelerate or decelerate. i am very concerned that this is a sign of a failing throttle body per a ford recall. after reading about this failure, i am convinced it is so. my dealership tells me they can only diagnose a total failure of this part--which seems to me like my life is at risk to being hit from behind or from the side if the car stalls in heavy traffic. i am becoming afraid to drive this car. if the part is bad are we just going to sacrifice a few people's lives before holding a congressional investigation?? how many is enough? *tr
I have had the two recalls fixed in july for my 2010 ford escape. however, in the past two months my car has been in the shop regarding the (wrench light) throttle/powertrain light coming on. my car looses power when i accelerate and the light comes on. it goes off once i turn off the car which is making it very difficult for the dealership to identify the problem. they claim they can't find anything and unfortunately i can't get the car to the dealership when the light is on. they have run a history for the codes that have come up on the car, but there are no recent codes/problems. i keep telling them that i am having the same problems listed in the ford recall notice but i am told that there is nothing they can do if there is no code showing a problem. i am terrified to drive my son in this car. i also commute 100 miles daily down a very busy highway and i am worried that the car will die and i won't be able to pull off the road safely. ford needs to do something immediately because the problem with the escape has not been fixed! *tr
I was driving home after picking my children up from school. i was going about 45 mph when suddenly i lost acceleration to the car. the car decreased speed very fast and the vehicle behind me had to slam on their brakes and came very close to hitting me. a wrench light came on. come to find out ford is aware of a throttle issue and have a extended warranty. i am confused to why this hasn't been called for recall. this is so dangerous to all of us. the safety of my family has been put in danger due to this issue that ford is aware. including the nhtsa is aware of this issue. are we waiting for lives to be taken to make this a recall? not once ford sent me a letter, email, or even called me to inform there was a extended warranty to get this issue fixed. as i spoke with ford, one of the agents said "we are being proactive and getting this issue fixed for free." what a joke. i can't imagine if i was on a major highway going 65mph. this is very dangerous and needs to be resolved right away. is there a number of people that must die before nhtsa make this a recall? if nhtsa and ford know there is an issue with this equipment why not get this fixed? *tr
While driving into work with my cruise control set at 60mph, my vehicle suddenly sputtered and the cruise control disengaged and there seemed to be a loss of power. i remember this description from the throttle bottle notification i received from ford a few months back. i had taken my escape into the dealership on 9/11/14 to have this taken care off and now 2 weeks later my vehicle now has the throttle control/powertrain warning light on and is showing all signs of the notification from ford. i know this issue has already been addressed, but now i am questioning as to whether or not ford is actually fixing the problem. *tr
Acceleration ability stopped abruptly on the interstate; had to coast to shoulder. engine trouble/wrench light illuminated. had it towed to transmission shop. have fully documented p2112 code indicating throttle body assembly problem. vehicle has experienced other shuddering/gear changing in the past, documented with the dealership. ford refuses to service it under recall extended warranty because they didn't see the code. i did not know it should have been towed directly to them. would be nice to receive this information from the dealership before it occurs. dealership told me "next time" it happens to pull over, turn it off, restart it and drive it in to them for the necessary service. ford customer service toll free representative said that it is not save once the light is on and should not be restarted and driven again. this is ludicrous: they are not taking responsibility nor providing safe and accurate information. *tr
While on a busy 6 lane hwy., i was at a center turn lane and completed my turn when light changed, then went to make my right turn on to the next road.... when my cars started to shake very badly and lost all power down to a crawl, and then stall, with cars behind me almost rear ending myself!! with horns blaring i was able to restart it to only have it do it again, only this time i was able to pull into the oil change shop there on that corner, where they checked for codes & found the "tac system stuck open"... they checked all fluids and i drove to the local repair shop and went on to work to start researching the problem!! *tr
Me and my son were out i was driving around 35- 40 mph and my car started to feel strange out of the blue my wrench light comes on and then my engine light i lose all power i am hitting gas pedal nothing happens. just stops on busy street . i was terrified for our safety. i turn off car wait a few mins and start again it happened 3 times in a 3 mile radius. its parked and not risking my life or somebody else. *tr
While traveling about 65 mph down the highway my 2010 ford escape's engine stopped completely. a warning light (the wrench on the ford models) came on as a i coasted to a safe spot on the highway. steering gave out a bit too. car started right back up after i found a safe location to stop. *tr
Vehicle had exited from freeway and was stopped on an exit ramp stop light. when gas was pushed to move vehicle from stopped position, the engine accelerated but the vehicle would not move forward. initially, the wrench light appeared on dash and then later, this disappeared and the check engine light came on. vehicle was taken to a nearby auto parts facility where a computer code evaluation was completed- this yielded the same code appearing 3 times: a problem involving the throttle actuator control system sensor. the technician stated that when the same problem code appears 3 times during the check, this accurately pin-points the problem. *tr
My family and i were traveling hwy 113 in va coming back to pa from nc. my husband accelerated to pass a vehicle. after passing, our vehicle began losing acceleration...my husband pushed the gas pedal to the floor and was not getting any acceleration. the wrench light illuminated and we had to make an emergency stop on the side of the highway while cars were passing us and coming up on us quickly. we came to a stop and the vehicle began to stall. my husband shut the vehicle off, waiting a minute and restarted. the vehicle seemed to run fine the rest of the way to pa. we called the dealership the following day (monday) and were told they could not get the vehicle in until 8/4. i began finding info on the web regarding ford's customer satisfaction program 13n03 regarding the throttle body. i took the vehicle in and was told there were not any codes showing on the computer. they refused to replace the throttle body. i was told to drive the vehicle and if it happened again to bring it back. i refused and insisted they replace it. i am now still fighting with ford to reimburse me. i have sent letters to ford only to receive a "form letter" back from them suggesting that i take the vehicle to the dealership to determine if the throttle body needs replacement...i had it replaced already...they obviously do not read letters sent to them. i will keep fighting but i do not understand why the nhtsa continues to receive complaints about this issue and does nothing about it. it is a huge safety issue! shame on ford and the nhtsa! *tr
While driving i lost all rpm's on my vehicle. vehicle starts to shake and if i push accelerator nothing happens . i have to turn vehicle off and restart for it to travel a little ways for it to only happen again. put vehicle on machine at car shop and it states that throttle actuator stuck. i have seen numerous reports where other people are having this same problem. why has there not been a recall issued? *tr
I was driving along and my car stopped receiving input from the gas pedal at 50 mph entering the highway. this happened a month ago. this has happened twice as well as my car taking off when i accelerate from stopped position. today 7/31/14 the gas pedal failed to work again when in a turn thank god nobody was behind me. you guys know there is a throttle body issue with all these ford escapes but yet you let them get away with this. does someone have to die from a rear end collision because the throttle stays closed on the highway? people's lives are at stake here. my wife and kid are in this car what happens i go to pull out and it decides to just stay stuck halfway into the lane bam i get t boned then have to sue everyone that knew about this issue. *tr
