Problems with 2010 Ford Escape VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

On average, the 2010 Ford Escape starts to “feel” problems with the VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL and its various aspects after 55 162 miles.

Components Affected by VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL Issues

We have classified the 552 complaints from 2010 Ford Escape about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.

ACCELERATOR PEDAL 1

Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2010 Ford Escape

Throttle body failure. from nov 2012 until july 2013 my ford escape has been bucking and surging at low speeds with no throttle response. occasionally, the vehicle would die completely unresponsive in the middle of an intersection. on july 11, 2013, my wife took our 2010 ford escape to ernest mccarty ford in alabaster, al. they told us that the throttle body assembly would need to be replaced. this issue is very dangerous and should ford should issue a recall. *tr

I was going approximately 60 to 65 mph on the freeway and i stepped on the gas to accelerate past another vehicle when i very suddenly lost all acceleration. i had to glide across 3 lanes of heavy traffic to try to get off the road. the car idled a little rough, i turned it off and when i started it again it ran fine and the accelerator worked again. i took it to the dealer and they replaced the throttle body. this was an extremely dangerous event and should definitely be looked into. *tr

After driving the vehicle for a couple of hours on saturday morning on the interstate i was driving in city traffic. i made a right turn from a stopped position. as i accelerated the engine began to sputter and acted like it was not in gear. the dashboard wrench light came on and i had no response from the gas peddle and the idle was extremely rough. i coasted to a stop and turned off the vehicle. after reading in the manual about the light (power train issue) i called and had the vehicle towed to my dealer for service. as it was saturday i had to wait for service until monday. monday morning i rented a vehicle from the dealer. on thursday, 10/25/12, my vehicle was ready for pickup. when i spoke to the service adviser i was told it was the throttle body was sticking for an unknown reason and they replaced it. i was informed that this was not a power train issue, but it was an emissions issue. they also said it was not covered under the power train warranty. according to my service ticket they also charged me an additional $170 on a miscellaneous item. on 11/12/12 the wrench light came on again when i started the vehicle in the morning. i drove it to my dealer and was told it was the canister purge valve that had a leak. this was also not covered under warranty. *tr

Driving in traffic slowed to turn left across railroad tracks and car died. when i tried to accelerate the gas pedal went to floor but car crawled slowly to where we could pull off road. disconnected and reconnected battery, car started ran 1 mile stopped again. friend cleared electronic error code with tester and car has run ok until recently when back gate will not open until error code was cleared by car dealer. after car slowing incident occurred we returned car to dealer where we purchased it and they said they never heard of that ever happening and they could find nothing wrong with the car. we fear it may happen again and lead to an accident. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle jerked and then the transmission failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 46,000. updated 4/1/13 *cn after the vehicle jerkes, the consumer stated he speed was 3 mph. the incident also occurred while drivng 15-20 mph.

My daughter was driving to school and as she was pulling off the highway her escape stopped responding to the accelerator, so she pulled off the side of the road, trying her best to not get hit by cars going much faster than she could move, and put the truck into park. i was now talking to her over her cell and i asked tried to push on the accelerator, but nothing would happen, as if the gas pedal was broken. she saw a little wrench in the lower left side of the dash, so i asked her to turn the truck off. after a minute i had her turn the key back on, and the light went off and the truck worked fine. plus, the wrench light was off. two days later the same thing happened, but this time she was driving down a residential street. truck lost power, and the gas pedal had no control and the wrench light came on. she managed to avoid getting hit as she slowed down and cars came upon her quickly. she managed to cruise long enough to get near our house and jumped in and saw the same thing she was experiencing. we parked the escape in the driveway and the idle seemed fine, but the accelerator had no response. i then turned the key off and back on and the little wrench light was gone and the accelerator was fully functional again. i decided to take it in to ford, as it has an extended warranty on it. they called us back later on that day and said there is nothing they could do, as they could not see any codes in the computer. i have read this is a fairly common problem, and in my opinion, very unsafe. when the truck goes into this "limp mode"you cannot get out of the way of ongoing traffic. plus, now i am afraid to have her drive this far from my home. i don't want her to get stranded, and if the dealer can't fix it because they can't find a problem. what am i to do? i hope something gets figured out soon. this is not safe, nor an acceptable service response! *tr

The throttle body was defective leading to a situation where the vehicle would not accelerate. it would immediate go into a crawl mode just enough toget me to the side of the road. i was able to turn off and restart the vehicle only to have it happen again a few miles later. i took to the dealer immediately, they replaced the throttle body at a cost of $440.00. *tr

I was driving from mississippi to kansas. had the vehicle set on cruise control and it just quit. startingslowing down and i could not accelerate using the gas pedal. i had to pull over and shut off the vehicle for a few minutes. it clicked several times before finally turning over. it never did it again until recently and now it does it repeatedly with no indicator(s). there is no way a vehicle that is only three years old should gave a major functioning paft malfunction like that. and definitely not for the price we pay for a vehicle. its going to cause an accident (if it hasnt already) suddenly losing power like that in a high traffic area and at any speed is dangerous. *tr

The problem was randomly demonstrated several times between 8/31/12 and 9/4/12. the accelerator would seem to stop working or become unresponsive, most often at speeds of 20-30 mph. there would be sputtering, stalling, and then total stoppage.. the motor was running but there seemed to be no fuel flow. i would turn it off, wait several seconds, restart it, and everything would work smoothly until, with no warning, the pattern would repeat itself. it occurred five times /3 miles, two times/1 mile, and two times/0.5 mile. early on 9/4, the pattern repeated three times on the way to the repair shop. these incidents produced anxiety for me and i was going slow. we did not drive the vehicle over the holiday weekend as we were concerned that this would happen on interstate highways when we would be traveling at high speeds.the error trouble codes were po685, p2111, p2112. he said the car was not safe to drive until it was repaired. since the mechanic reported "throttle body" being the problem i researched the throttle body as it relates to the ford escape. it causes me great concern that this has been demonstrated to be a dangerous and potentially life-threatening problem on the escape since 2000 and i bought 3 new escapes within that time period; a 2002, a 2007, and the 2010 escape, and there has been no effective, corrective action taken to resolve this. the dealership has said there will be no reimbursement of the $475.00 and this part is not under any warranty. although the money is an issue, the greater issue is the need to prevent future deaths. i have the old part that was replaced and i am willing to do whatever i can to force this problem to be resolved.in the interest of public safety i urge you to issue an immediate recall until this problem is resolved. thank you for your interest. *tr

The vehicle's accelerator (gas) pedal randomly stops working resulting in immediate loss of speed and power to the engine. accelerator is unresponsive and vehicle will sputter/crawl to 5 mph until ignition is turned off and car restarted. after restart, vehicle runs normal until problem occurs again (sometimes within minutes). problem occurs randomly as little as 1 time per trip to as many as 8 times in a 25 minute commute. problem occurred 12 times the other day with many of them on a multilane interstate while traveling 65 mph in the far left lane with nowhere to quickly pull-off the road. very dangerous when it occurs on the interstate and you quickly have to maneuver to change lanes and pull off the road or risk coming to a stop in the middle of a busy highway. this problem also causes the vehicle to sometimes run rough and negatively impact the emissions. the error code from the vehicle's computer is p2112 which is related to the throttle body. i have researched this problem on the internet and discovered it's an extremely common and very serious problem with this vehicle. a recall needs to be issued before someone gets killed. *tr

During my lunch hour, the car just stopped running. i was not in a place where it was easy to pull over to the side. i tried pressing the gas pedal but it would just barely creep. i finally turned it off & restarted and it was ok. no warning lights came on. the second occurrence was on 4/26/13. i started to back out of a parking place and the throttle/power train light came on and it would barely move. i pulled back into the parking space and restarted it and it has been ok since. *tr

On my way to work, the car started to pull then car just turned off. did it again a week later and the engine light turned on. took it to a gas station paid for a diagnose and a code 2111 throttle actuator control system came up. called dealer and they do not want to change it and be responsible for it cause the warranty just expired at 30 thousand miles. *tr

While traveling at a speed of approximately 65mph my 2010 ford escape failed to accelerate. my speed dropped to a crawl and i was forced to drift to the breakdown lane. at this point the car was jerking back and forth and would not move forward. i turned off the car and re-started, and drove no more then 45 mph to my dealership. about 1 week after the first occurrence, it happened again at a very low speed, approximately 25 mph. i again pulled over and noticed a wrench illuminated on the control panel. again i brought the vehicle to the dealership, no resolution. the dealership is now asking me to drive the vehicle with a diagnostic device attached to capture data at the next failure. this is a very serious safety concern! i am concerned that this sudden loss of acceleration will result in an accident and possible injury. *tr

The first time it happened i thought it was "bad gas". i was driving on the highway in the fast lane and the just lost power and the wrench icon came on the dashboard. i crossed 3 lanes of traffic to get to the shoulder without the ability to speed up and a strange resistance in the pedal as i was braking. turned the car off and back on again and it started up fine except that the starter seemed to get stuck, as if i was still turning the key. this rapidly increased in frequency of occurrences. from twice in 6 months to everyday last weekend. another time the truck started accelerating as i drove on the highway. i was already going the speed limit so it was really scary. i hit the brake as hard as i could and applied the emergency brake and you could smell burnt rubber. i got over to the shoulder and let my children out of the car because i was scared i could not get the car to stop. i turned the car off while the engine continued to push like it was going 100mph but no lights came on the dash or anything. when i started the car back up it was running normal. when i took it to the dealer today they advised that it is the throttle body and even with less that 32,000 miles on the car it is not covered by warranty so they want $650 to fix it. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the throttle body had failed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 59,000.

Car shuddered then died in middle of very dangerous, narrow, curvy road. started up immediately but died when put in drive. eventually got the car home after numerous stalls (a distance of approx. 3 miles) had to have car towed in. told it was the throttle body and the $514.00 repair bill was not covered under any of the warranties. we had owned the car 30 days, and the extended warranty expired the day of the event. apparently ford is aware of the problem but refuses to recall or pay for repairs. my 17 year old son could very easily have been killed. *tr

Spouse drove away from house and vehicle stalled on the city street about 400 feet from home. this was on a saturday, i attempted to drive the vehicle, continued to stall. i was able to get it into my garage and the vehicle was brought to the dealership on a flat bed truck to replace the throttle body and motor assembly at my expense. (no charge for towing). *tr

Car went from 70 mph to idle on the highway, would not accelerate. dealer replace faulty throttle body, but we continue to have sporadic acceleration issues. dealer cannot find faults in the current throttle body. *tr

The first incident, the engine stalled as i slowed down to make a turn. the second incident, while driving the engine nearly killed and was in a low speed like it was in neutral, just stayed in one spot like it was stalled. had vehicle towed to dealership where they replaced the throttle body. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape limited. the contact was traveling 30 mph when the vehicle failed to accelerate. the check engine warning light illuminated during the failure. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 68,200.

I was driving my 2010 ford escape and all of a sudden it started bolting forward but at the same time completely lost acceleration.. i pulled over and put my flashers on and not knowing what was wrong i started car again and it sounded fine so i started out again.. got about a block down the road and the same thing happened again..i had it towed in to the ford dealership and after they checked it out they told me it was the throttle that they were having problems with on some of the escapes.. so they have had my car at the ford dealership now for 9 days waiting on the part! and from what i understand there are several people like me waiting on the part.. even one car has been at shop for three weeks... also wanted to note that this problem came right out of the blue! no warning at all! thank goodness i was on a side street and not going very fast! i can see where this could be very dangerous in the right situations!! the dealer kept the vehicle for four weeks. *tr

While my wife was driving within city limits the car suddenly would not accelerate and simply stopped. she was able to drive it to a dealer because she was able to pull over to the side of the road and turn the car off and on again. it would work for a few miles at most and stop again. very dangerous problem. this problem first happened in may, but we took it to a mechanic and he told us it was likely the electronic throttle body, but it was functioning at the time we took it in. finally on june 27, the car was simply not operating. we were told this problem was not a power train function and therefore not covered by warranty. we have read about many other people experiencing the same problem. we are grateful that she was not on the highway at the time. please investigate this problem! *tr

While driving on interstate 4 (florida) lost all acceleration of escape while driving middle lane (70 mph). i contacted the dealership and paid for it to get fixed (they said it was a battery cable) . i had two cars swerve to miss me as the car totally shut down as i was trying to get over to shoulder. i contacted ford via email and received emails back indicating (and i have them on file) that there was no recall or notice of this kind of issue. the vehicle continues to have issues will accelerating and decelerating. *tr

Driving 60mph on highway when ford escape bucked, slowed, did not accelerate when gas was applied. pulled to side of road where engine sputtered and died. restarted truck, drove another 10 miles when same occurred. this has occurred numerous times over the past two years. i assumed i had bought gas with water in it "bad gas". several times i have used a product to remove water from the gas, this only works sometimes. i have an appointment with ford on july 5th, i believe its another problem with the ecoboost engine in my suv. ford should recall this engine before a fatality occurs, i have visions of someone plowing into the back of my vehicle while my engine stalls unexpectedly. *tr

Driving down highway 65 mph, car decelerates and starts cutting out, we have to stop, put the car in park, kill the engine, restart, and go again. driving on a 2 lane highway with no place to pull over, no shoulders, steep side ditches it died 6 times in 7 miles. this is just the last incident, there were many others. i had it diagnosed as the throttle body being bad, had it ordered. found out there was a 3 month back order, because there was so many of these problems with no recall. this is our only vehicle!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact was driving approximately 40-50 mph when the vehicle lost acceleration. the vehicle then idled and would not accelerate over 15 mph. the failure was experienced several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure was approximately 2,800 updated 7/9/12 *cn the dealer determined the problem was a faulty electronic throttle body. updated 07/10/12

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that when accelerating from a stopped position, the vehicle hesitated and the warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was in the dealers possession for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 18,000. the current mileage was approximately 24,000. the vin was unavailable.

My 2010 ford escape has an intermittent issue where the accelerator stops working, the engine wrench alert comes on, the engine is still running. when this occurs the vehicle has basically stalled, in that you can't accelerate only slow down or coast. after the problem occurs you must turn the vehicle off and wait a few minutes, then it will usually start up and the accelerator will function again. this problem has happened probably a dozen times since it started, we usually just pull over and turn vehicle off/on, yesterday the problem nearly caused an accident though as my son was pulling out of a parking lot into traffic and the vehicle stalled. *tr

I took my 2010 ford escape 4 cylinder automatic transmission 2wd vehicle in due to the nhtsa recall notice for the transmission. even before i got the recall notice i noticed that 1 time out of 10 when i engaged my car from park to drive that the car would shake violently ( like, someone just hit my car with their car ). in addition, often, i would notice that the vehicle would not switch gears in a clean and proper fashion. so, when i got the recall notice, i thought this will be fixed. after getting the car back from the ford dealership and them saying nothing was wrong with the vehicle and the my car was not effected by the recall, i still had these same issues all the while. well, on may 8, i was driving home and the "wrench" light (powertrain fault indicated/detected ! ) came on the display/instrument panel. in addition, i noticed that the transmission was also not running that well. i took it into the dealership and dropped it off right away that night. it has been 5 days and the work is still not done. my service advisor tells me that it is the valve body that needs to be replaced. he said perhaps on wednesday it will be done. *js

While engine is underload reproduced by pressing both gas and brakes simultaneously; at acceleration and between 30-40 mph the engine makes an audible thumping noise. ford has been unable to correct this problem and calls it normal. they indicated i should drive more aggressively (faster and forcing the engine to shift gears) in order to avoid this condition. this is dangerous and irresponsible advice that may lead to an accident. the condition may lead to engine failure. *tr

I was driving on the interstate at about 80 mph and suddenly my car jerked, and lost all control of acceleration. my car went from 80-15 in just a matter of seconds. no matter how hard i pressed the gas, i could not accelerate. thankfully i was in the fast lane and was able to coast to the shoulder. the check engine light was on. i turned my car off and a few minutes later i was able to drive it again. very scary. my car is at the shop now and as of yesterday they haven't found a problem. i have researched it and told them it sounds like the throttle body is bad. there have been numerous of complaints. this is extremely dangerous and ford should have a recall immediately. it's a shame i'm terrified of driving my two year old around in my two year old car. *tr

I just exited the pa turnpike when my truck began to sputter. the rpms were fluctuating. i was able to coast off to the side of the road, but am glad this happened after i got off the turnpike where i was traveling at 65 mph and had no shoulder to pull off to. it happened twice this week. monday, september 2nd, as i was traveling apx 55 mph on pa rt 422 and again the following day as i was driving on county line rd at apx. 40 mph. each time the same thing would happen. my vehicle would sputter and rpms would fluctuate as the engine died. i was almost rear ended by several cars the last time since there was not enough shoulder for me to get my vehicle completely off the road as the engine died. all temperatures were fine and my fluids are good. i took my vehicle into a dealership this morning for diagnostics. i was told it was the throttle vale. after looking online i have noticed many people are having this same issue. please look into this. ford needs to fix this unsafe issue! *jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate after repeated attempts. the vehicle was coasted to the side of the road where the engine was turned off. upon restarting, the vehicle accelerated normally. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and a chip was replaced in the transmission, which did not correct the problem. the failure recurred and the vehicle had not been repaired for the most recent failure. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 34,000.

Driving at 35mph, check engine light came on and suv went into "limp home mode", slowing to only 10mph. after re-starting suv 2-times same error appear. took suv to local ford dealer tom holzer, and they said it was a failing throttle body sensor. inquired if there was a known warranty issue and dealer confirmed no, but a service bulletin existed at customer's expense - which was not agreeable. tom holzer service manager advise to contact ford directly (which we did) and ford said to contact service manager (which we did). after numerous phone calls and formal complaints we received no satisfactory resolution. ford was blaming the local dealer, the local dealer blaming ford, and we still had to pay $525 to replace defective throttle body sensor. (ironically our good friends have a 2010 chevy equinox with 80,000 miles that had the same problem and their local chevy dealer replaced their throttle body sensor and provided loaner vehicle during service procedure, both at no charge). needless to say, we were very disappointed with the local dealer and ford's handling of this known problem, and this will be our last ford vehicle purchase after 30-years of dedicated ford vehicle purchases. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the check engine warning light. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where a diagnostic was performed and located the failure as a defective throttle body assembly cover. the failure recurred approximately twenty-five times. the dealer made an update to the vehicle's computer software and the failure seemed to be resolved. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the current mileage was 41,438 and the failure mileage was 38,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving, the wrench symbol warning light illuminated. the contact lost control of the vehicle and although the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the contact stopped and turned the vehicle off, restarted and the failure was resolved momentarily. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to dealer where the failure was located at the electronic throttle control. the vehicle was repaired by replacing the throttle body and relay. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and a claim was filed. the current mileage was 42,000. the approximate failure mileage was 37,000.

Went to accelerate and vehicle stalled. replaced at 50,000 miles. on the new replacement, at 70,000, replaced at my cost at dealership, throttle body stutters and chugs between 40 and 50 mph. *tr

I was driving to go to lunch when my throttle body just stopped working in the middle of the road. i was unable to drive my vehicle to a safe location out of the way of traffic. i had to shut it off several times to just get it a side road. i have contacted ford in regards to being reimbursed for having this part replaced which i paid for out of my own pocket and they are not willing to reimburse me stating that the date for reimbursement was over july 31st 2014. i have found on the nhtsa that the warranty is good for 10 years or 150,000 miles from the data of original purchase, which i purchased the car in november 2012 and there is only 55,000 miles on it which is clearly under the warranty. i had the part replaced at bartow ford in bartow, fl and the are refusing to reimburse me as well. *tr

This was emailed to ford customer care in april 2012. i purchased a used 2010 ford escape v6 fwd in december 2010. the vehicle operated well until november or december of 2011 when i was driving on the highway and suddenly the brake system light came on and immediately the vehicle?s acceleration gave out. the rpms went down to an idling level (900 rpms) and the accelerator did not respond. i pulled on to the shoulder and as i was coming to a stop the vehicle began to shake until the vehicle stopped. the vehicle did turn back on and was ok to drive home. the following day it was still running ok and no sensor lights were on until the check engine light came on. the following day i brought the vehicle into a ford service centre. i was told that the purge valve needed to be replaced and would solve the problem. this was completed and i was assured that the problem had been fixed. roughly, two months later the same issue happened with the vehicle?s acceleration stopping and engine going to an idle, but this time the powertrain light came on. this happened twice before i was able to bring in the vehicle into the ford service centre. this time i was told that the axel rod fluid was low and a seal needed to be replaced. again i was told this fixed the problem and would not happen again. after driving around 7500 kms the vehicle had the same issue (with powertrain light on). after making an appointment, the vehicle?s acceleration gave out 3 times when driving on one trip and the check engine light came on again. it drove poorly the following day and the acceleration gave out again. i had to have the vehicle towed to ford for the service appointment. the throttle body was replaced but due to the continuous assurance that the problem had been fixed each time, i did not have faith that it had and bought a new vehicle and traded in the escape. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph in rainy weather, the vehicle stalled as the engine continued to run. the vehicle was merged to the shoulder and a tow truck was notified who towed the vehicle to the dealer. the dealer inspected the vehicle and advised the contact that the throttle box failed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified who stated that there was no recall for the failure. the failure mileage was 37,552.

After 65-70 mph on interstate with no issue "jump" or slip occurs after exiting, coming to stop and then accelerating again. upon accelerating car jumps hard with vibration. was told nothing wrong and needed front end alignment?? this issue has occurred since purchasing brand new. was always told nothing wrong with car while under warranty. once out of warranty ford dealer in tn on 9-12-11 told me again nothing wrong with vehicle and charged me $98. try to explain issues however they put in their words. took car again 7-23-12 to dealer, apparently couldn't find issue. 7-7-13: car comes to stop on interstate! nothing happens when pressing accelerator however still has power. had to stop turn off engine and restart! this has happened 5 times in past week. taking to dealership tomorrow july 22 2013. appears to be same symptoms as throttle body issues! dangerous to have car stop on freeway! very disappointing as this car is only 3 yrs new! *tr

Driving in town let off throttle engine went to limp mode , pulled over shut off motor then restarted ran great but had p2111 code , did same thing again on way home again pull over restart runs great. i checked code, led me to throttle body inspected and cleaned found no problem , reinstalled throttle body ran good for about 30 days and did it again , has done it 2 more times since but gives me no codes . the last time was starting out in a busy intersection car jumps and goes to limp mode in middle of intersection had to limp out of traffic to turn off and restart . *tr

As i was driving the car did a rpm surge and while my foot was on the gas, the car would not accelerate until i pulled over and turned the car off and restarted it. the part had to be replaced. my car is currently doing the same thing again. *tr

While driving at 60 mph the vehicle quit running and a trouble light was displayed. within days a took the vehicle to a local dealership and the throttle body assembly was identified as the problem and was replaced under warranty. about 13 months later the incident occurred again while cruising at 60 mph. again i took the vehicle to my local dealership and again they diagnosed the throttle body assembly and replaced it, at a cost to me of $540.00. i spoke with several friends who also had the same problems with their identical vehicle. i also read where the nhtsa had received numerous complaints of a similar nature and that ford had acknowledged there was a problem and had subsequently resolved it in later production. i would like to recover my costs as they admitted a problem. has there been a recall issued related to this issue? *tr

While driving the car at approximately 40 miles per hour, the car suddenly just stalled. i put on my hazard lights, put the car in park, restarted the engine. the car restarted fine. this has happened twice--once when the car had approximately 10,000 miles and more recently at 51,000. fortunately, there were no other cars behind me at the time this happened, otherwise there could have been a serious accident. the car has been taken to a ford dealership both times that this problem occurred. because it is a very random problem (it has happened twice in 3 years), ford cannot replicate the problem. they also say that there are no diagnostic codes indicating a problem. from what i can tell, this is an active problem with these cars. the only ford response regarding this stalling problem that i have been unable to uncover is a technical service bulletin which indicates a faulty circuit board on ford escapes built between june 22 and oct 15, 2009, which is the period during which this car was built. *tr

My wife is the main driver of this vehicle and has told me that there have been several occurrences over the past several years including the most recent on december 18. 2013. there is a sudden unexpected engine acceleration similar to what the toyota vehicles have had. at this point it only occurs when slowing down. she applies the brakes but finds it difficult to slow with the engine attempting to accelerate. this last time i was riding with her and she slammed the gear shift into park just before coming to a complete stop. i didn't think that was too good for the transmission but it did correct the difficulty at the time. have any other people experienced this problem ? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving at any speed intermittently. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who was unable to duplicate the failure. the dealer informed the contact that there was an issue with the throttle body that needed to be repaired. the manufacturer was aware of the failure. the contact was awaiting repairs. the current mileage was 54,000 and the failure mileage was 20,000. the vin was unavailable.

No accelerator response in the middle of a lefthand turn with oncoming traffic. no engine revs then engine roared and i was able to complete my turn. dealer saw no engine codes,no notes,a 1.5 mile test drive showed nothing,no notes with vin and ford stated no known issues. it didn't happen then? *tr

Vehicle cuts out stops while running doesn't idle cuts off at lights

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact was sitting idle with the brakes depressed. as he removed his foot from the brake pedal, the vehicle abnormally accelerated and crashed into the rear of the vehicle ahead of him. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and was schedule to be repaired. the contact was told that the body damage would have to be repaired before the vehicle could be inspected for internal failures. the contact and a passenger were reported injured. a police report was available. stated that the transmission was inspected five times prior in regards to the failure prior to the crash. the vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign id number: 10v222000 (power train:automatic transmission). there were no further repairs. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 19,000 and the current mileage was 22,000.
