We have classified the 552 complaints from 2010 Ford Escape about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.
Driving 70 mph in left lane of 4 way interstate in rush hour traffic, my car suddenly lost all acceleration and i coasted to a stop on the left shoulder. engine still ran, but car idled roughly and lurched forward. turned engine off and called 911 and aaa (was sitting on narrow left shoulder of busy interstate at rush hour). after 10 minutes, called 911 again and they said help was still far away so i started car and was able to drive the car as normal so merged into traffic from left shoulder. by grace of god i was in the left lane when power was lost, not sure i could have made it to either shoulder had it happened while i was in one of the middle lanes. also glad my 17 month old son wasn't with me, as i was on way to pick him up from daycare. today (may 2), i drove car to dealer and was told that the problem is a faulty throttle body. am having it replaced. was told there is not a recall for this problem. scary, thought i was going to die. *tr
While driving the motor shuts down. it is impossible to even rev the engine and increase rpms. it will jerk and jump forward as if its trying to accelerate but wont go any faster than idle speed. if i turn the engine off it will work properly for about 50 yards then shut down again. *tr
Vehicle surges and then dies when stopping at a red light or stop sign. vehicle will instantly restart after placing it in park. after first incident vehicle has constantly gotten worse. dealer stated throttle body was defective and ordered new part which is on back order. unable to drive the car since it is subject to die at anytime. *tr
For the past 8 months my escape has been stalling while i am driving or at a stop light, and when i am at a complete stop the car moves forward without stepping on the gas pedal!!! *tr
While driving my car has been stalling. it will also like surge forward. today is repeatedly did this to the point where i couldnt get anywhere. *tr
I was traveling on a four lane highway in southern illinois with my cruise control on when my escape accelerated suddenly then just as suddenly lost all acceleration. i coasted to the side of the road with my flashers on. i shut the vehicle off due to it surging. left it off called my dealer and while on hold just tried to see if it would restart. it then restarted fine and i proceeded to my destination. returned to my town of residence and took vehicle to dealership they kept it the rest of the day and reported " no codes, no ssms, no tsb, rant etb test passed no problems found at this time. the next day i was in town going up a hill when my escape suddenly accelerated up hill and again suddenly lost all acceleration. i this time coasted into parking lot. again vehicle was surging. i placed vehicle in park with parking break on due to the power of the surges. called dealership explained issues and made them listen to vehile while in park. this time someone figured issues as throttle body sticking. they replaced throttle body that day and i have not had trouble since. i am only finding out about these issues after searching web for similiar issues and found this site and others listing same issues. this could be a very dangerous situation, i have a reported issue to ford and have a customer complaint number but i am awaiting a representive to return my call at this time. *tr
As i was driving on the interstate going approximately 70 miles an hour, i noticed my vehicle slowing down, as i tried to accelerate the gas i was still slowing down and it was not going any faster. i quickly put my flashers on and pulled to the side of the highway, and noticed the car shaking and the wrench light turned on. i then turned off the car and called for help. a few minutes later help arrived and they were able to turn on the escape and drive it into town to a car center to have a diagnostic test ran. it did not pull up anything on the test. i am terrified to drive it now in the event it happens again. i am lucky there wasn't too much traffic on the highway that i could get over quickly and out of the way. i hope we are able to figure out what is wrong with it and get this fixed. *tr
Fax letter from constituent regarding a potential compelling safety issue with her ford escape purchased from herb chambers ford of braintree, ma; she believes for " no reason" it loses acceleration and causes the operator to "glide" to find safety. *smd updated 06/30/14
Vehicle suddenly lost power while traveling at highway speed. i was able to steer to the side of the road and stop. vehicle restarted and had the same issue two more times in a 40 mile trip. vehicle has continued to have the same problem intermittently both at surface street speed and highway speeds. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently. the contact stated that she depressed the accelerator pedal but the vehicle would not accelerate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 70,000. updated 09/05/13*lj
As i accelerate from a stop position such as a stop sign, traffic light or accelerate trying to go up an incline or bridge the car loses all power. the engine still runs and the power steering still works but as you try and press down on the pedal to accelerate nothing happens. eventually the car stops and begins to sputter. i turn off the car and then start it up. the car works fine for a few miles but the situation happens again. *tr
While driving on 270 in gaithersburg maryland, my ford escape stalled. this was the third time my vehicle stalled. the previous times it was on shady grove road. thankfully, when i was driving on 270 i was able to pull off the road to the shoulder without incident. i took my car to ford sheehy in gaithersburg right away and i had to rent a car until my vehicle was fixed. the mechanic said they had to replace the throttle body, which was defective. i paid $527.67. four months later the check engine light came on. i took it back to ford sheehy. this time it was the purge valve. i had to pay $557.79 so within the space of four months i had over $1,000 in repairs on a vehicle that i barely drive. when i go out of town, i rent a car instead of driving my ford escape, because i don't feel safe driving long distances. after complaining to ford through email, they denied there was a throttle body problem and the customer service representative told me they don't know anything about a throttle body problem. *tr
Vehicle went into limp mode. initially it was infrequent, but it started to happen more often at various speeds, causing unsafe driving conditions. the throttle body was the reported error, was replaced and now the new throttle body is acting up again with the same errors. the car is currently at the ford dealership because the part is on back order and no one else has it available. *tr
I was driving along at about 60 mph on a 4-lane freeway when the vehicle started slowing down for no apparent reason. efforts to apply more acceleration from the gas pedal had no effect. i had to cross three lanes of traffic to get to the berm and activated my hazard lights in the process and my son who was following me in another vehicle had to brake to avoid hitting me. the suv never completely stopped but was traveling at about 2 mph on the berm. i stopped the vehicle and restarted it and it appeared to start okay but an open-end wrench appeared as a warning light (throttle control/power train). after getting back up to speed and merging with traffic the suv died again in about 1/4 mile. i pulled over to the berm and restarted a second time. this time a service engine soon light appeared but the suv appeared to run normally. i continued home and called the dealership and they said they could not help me until the service group came in on monday. i asked to talk to a manager but they said they were all busy and that i'd have to wait until monday. i left vehicle in my garage until monday and then will try to take to have it serviced. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled and the accelerator pedal failed to respond. the vehicle was taken dealer. the technician diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 38,000 and the current mileage was 40,000. *tr
While driving on the highway, the wrench light came on and gas pedal went soft , had no power. pulled off to the side , turned the car off for a few minutes. restarted and continued on with no problem. same thing happened again the next day. car is at our ford dealership now. *tr
Driving down the road the escape felt like it stalled on the road with the wrench warning light. pulled off and tried to give it gas but the car wouldn't go and the rpm's were jumping. shut the vehicle off and called my husband and he said to shut it down and restart the car and see what happens (husband had a friend with another escape do the same thing). i did that and it was fine. had a shop check for codes but there were no codes present. called ford and was told that it was the throttle body/sensor and that its not covered under warranty (yet they new what the problem was just by me explaining it which tells me that its a known problem that they don't want to fix). then today it did the same thing. *tr
Vehicle cut off while traveling in traffic at about 45 mph, wrench light came on. the engine cranked back up, continue on my way. 2nd incident happen while traveling to work, engine kept running but, could not give engine gas, coast to a stop. wrench light came on, engine was idling rough, turn vehicle off, engine cranked back up. 3rd incident engine surged and cut off after taking off from stop light. another incident engine cut off while traveling about 40 mph, engine surged, stumble . wrench light came on. engine cut off , wrench light and service engine light came on, and stayed on for two days and then went off. vehicle is out of warranty. dealer thinks throttle body. *tr
When i'm driving my car, it will suddenly stop accelerating as though someone threw the car into neutral. when this happens, the wrench light comes on and i have to coast over to a safe area to turn the car off and turn it back on. this happened on the freeway at speeds over 70mph, on streets, after a red light, turning corners. over and over again this happens and it started happening at about 50-thousand miles and has gotten worse. today this happened more than six times in a twenty mile radius. *tr
While going about 65 to 70 mph on an interstate highway, i suddenly started to lose speed and was unable to accelerate using gas pedal. i pulled over to the berm and stopped the car, but left engine running. i then tried to slowly accelerate on the berm, but car started "bucking". we were on a trip and not particularly close to home, so we had the car towed to a ford dealership. they "pulled the codes" and could find nothing wrong. they then test drove it and said it seemed ok. we had no problem after that until 4/29/13. my wife had the same problem on way to work, pulled over, and turned the car off. she then restarted it and had no problem. it happened to her again yesterday (5/5/13). frankly, all 3 incidents put us in a dangerous predicament and we were lucky not to have had a more serious incident. we are now afraid to drive the car. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 10 mph, the vehicle stopped accelerating. the contact had difficulty putting the vehicle in park as it began to lunge and jerk forward. the failure recurred more than twenty times over the following weeks. the vehicle was towed to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the electronic throttle body would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 62,000.
Driving on highway @ 65 mph - loss of gas pedal control - i could press the gas pedal and it was as if it was disconnected - there was no response at all - car starts losing speed in middle of hwy - i had to coast to the side of the road -- the engine kept running - engine was skipping as it coasted to a stop - the wrench light came on along with service engine light - after sitting still for 10 minutes vehicle will start up and run as usual - i took to dealership found out that this is a common problem with the ford escape 2010 - they had 10 on order within 2 weeks - the electronic throttle body is on national backorder and i can't get an answer on when the parts will be available - called ford customer relations got no where - the throttle incident started weekly and now it happens 1 - 2 times a day - it is now unsafe to drive- car looses power without any notice - has happened at stop light / intersection / rr crossing / roads with no shoulder / interstate - i need a vehicle that i can depend on daily to get me home safety - if the dealership tells me this is a common problem with ford escape why can't the part be recalled and fix the throttle before it fails - paying for the part isn't an issue - getting the part to fix the problem is the issue - ford knows about the throttle and doesn't have parts available and can't tell me when they will be available. what i've been told is there is nothing that can be done to get me a part or date when it will be available. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning light illuminated. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 36,000. the vin was not available. *tr
Vehicle's throttle stopped working in traffic traveling at 35 mph and had to coast vehicle to side of road where engine was idling roughly but no response to pressing accelerator pedal. vehicle needed to be shut off and restarted several times to get throttle working again. vehicle exhibited this problem many times over last 30 days (even at 65 mph we lost throttle on interstate and had to coast off in traffic). we have been fortunate in avoiding an accident. took vehicle to service station which read computer reading and said "throttle body actuator" needed to be replaced and that i should go to local ford dealer asap as there should be a recall for a 2 year old vehicle with this dangerous condition. ford dealer informed me that there was no recall and that its just something that happens and that it would be $399 to fix. this is a huge safety issue and i will not let my family drive the vehicle until ford fixes this issue at ford's expense. i researched online and this problem seems to be happening a lot to many owners. this needs an immediate mandate by nhtsa to ford to issue a recall for this life threatening defect. *tr
I was driving down the road and my engine stalled i turned off of the main road and pushed on the brake. as i was slowing down my car began to idle very rough and jumpy. i put it in park and turned it off. i restarted the car and had to push on the gas pedal several times before it started drove away and it was fine couple months later the same thing except. it will now only go a mile or so before it happens again. it has happened about 10 times in 2 days. i've called several dealers to get a part and they are all on back order which tells me there are lots of problems with this part. *tr
I had approximately four occurrences of losing all throttle response, basically a complete loss of power while driving on the los angeles freeway system. engine rpm drops to 1,000 and provides idle power only. a very dangerous situation while on a 4 lane congested highway traveling at speeds upto 65 mph. *tr
I purchased a 2010 ford escape xlt, used on feb 28, 2012 from a ford dealer, northeast phila. it had 52,000 miles. i purchased an extended 3year 36,000mile bumper to bumper extended warranty from date of purchase. upon driving off the lot, i noticed high idle at rest, low acceleration and shifting by itself when accelerating and trying to slow to stop. i immediately took the vehicle back to the dealer, a couple of days later. service mgr. said that he took my vehicle home, drove it, found nothing wrong. i showed him service bulletins from ford documenting vehicle accidents, similar complaints, as a result of the main computer program of the vehicle, wrong coding, codes not being read correctly, etc. service manager denied seeing this information, despite me giving him copies. it is now august 16, 2013, vehicle is worse, idling at rest 3000 rpm, 10-20 mph idles at 4,000-5,000 rpm, louder than the radio. vehicle shifting itself, hesitating, when trying to accelerate onto a highway ramp, or going up a hill. vehicle shifting, and jerking while trying to slow to a stop. took vehicle to ford dealer route 1 langhorne, pa, closer to my home. was told by service rep that computer codes from vehicle not being picked up by service diagnostic computer. "we had to clear your vehicle computer and reprogram it. not covered under manufacturer or extended warranty. therefore you pay the $90 diagnostic fee". it is routine maintenance". i said how is a computer malfunction in the vehicle, requiring a complete wipe and reprogram routine maintenance? they refused to return my $90. vehicle still same problem, slightly less, a little more quieter, still running 4000 rpm on mild acceleration. i am afraid, because it was shifting up when i was trying to slow to a stop. *tr
Driving at 45-50 mph, car stalled and "wrench-shaped" warning light came on. by descriptions i've read, car went into "limp home" mode. i was able to pull to the side of the road... no acceleration capability, tight steering, rpm bouncing between 500-900. shut off engine, restarted, ran fine for next 30 minutes of drive with speeds ranging from idle and 10-60 mph. friend notified me of the below open investigation that fits what happened. investigation subject : electronic throttle body malfunction date investigation opened: feb 21, 2013 date investigation closed: open nhtsa action number: pe13003 component(s): engine. *tr
Upon entering the flow of traffic on highway my 2010 ford escape began to accelerate on its own and increasing speed, realizing what was happening i engaged the brake to no avail, i was unable to stop my vehicle. i navigated to the shoulder and was gaining speed on the traffic ahead so i looked for an exit into a parking lot with no one walking in my way and turned into the lot literally on two wheels due to my increasing speed. i saw a wooded area with a snow bank and thought i would head that way rather than the alternative of other vehicles, building or people. as i got closer i then turned the engine off and stopped but not after standing on my brakes and smelling burning from them. *tr
2010 ford escape. consumer writes in regards to throttle control malfunction and requests reimbursement for repairs. *smd the consumer stated the vehicle suddenly lost all acceleration while traveling on the highway in cruise control mode. the rpm would not go above 700 despite, the consumer applying the accelerator pedal. the local ford service department gave the consumer some troubleshooting steps to reset the vehicle. the service advisor explained, the computer had stopped functioning., which caused the vehicle to shut down. the consumer was informed to allow the vehicle to sit in the off position for a few minutes and the re-start it again. it provided a temporary fix, which allowed the consumer to continue to her destination. the after the consumer retrieved her vehicle, the low pressure sensor had activated. she took the vehicle to her local mechanic, who observed the vehicle was leaking transmission fluid on the driver side between the axle and transmission. the consumer took the vehicle back to the dealer. an inspection revealed the leak was coming from a seal. when the consumer picked the vehicle up, later that evening, the low tire pressure light illuminated. the consumer took the vehicle to a tire dealer, where they found a screw in the sidewall of the driver front tire. the consumer was informed, she would need to purchase two new tires. *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled independently. the contact attempted to restart the vehicle with the illumination of the check engine warning light. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the throttle needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 34,336.
I was driving down the road and my car stalled and started jerking before shutting down entirely. i would push on the gas and my car would not drive forward, as if it lost its power. the ford dealership had to replace the throttle body, after i owned the car for less than a year. *tr
The wrench icon illuminated the 4 times the escape failed to respond to acceleration. each time it needed to be turned off and restarted. 1st failure (1/24/13) was at about 20mph (or less) while making a u-turn. i was able to coast over to bus lane. 2nd failure (2/4/13) was at 50mph after traveling 30 miles in heavy traffic. i drove directly to a transmission shop and was told "what an extreme safety issue this could be and that this was an expensive transmission to rebuild and it would be $2000 to $2500." 3rd failure (2/5/13) and by now i am quick to start emergency flashers. i was unable to restart in n. i was able to pull into a turn lane and had to turn escape off and restart. i started researching on internet and determined that the problem was the electronic throttle body. 4th failure (2/11/13) same senerio. 2/14/13 i drove to don reid ford, maitland, fl. i spoke to the service manager who agreed with me that the problem was the throttle body. $300 fix included $99. labor with a 12 month warranty at any ford dealer. that point sold me since this vehicle was likely to travel out of town, and that it could be done while i waited. i was not happy to check my paperwork after i got home and find that instead of stating the issue it said "customer states replace throttle body per customer request" i called the service manager and expressed my concern that this very dangerous safety issue was not documented on my paperwork. i was told that since the dealer did not diagnose the problem, which would have cost another $99 that this was the way it had to be written up. i believe that this sudden gas pedal failure could cause an accident and should be a recall before a death occurs. this 2010 was built 12/09. we bought this escape 10/3/12 with 73,600 miles on it. we have tested it out on a 200 mile trip and a 1,000 mile trip.now trust the 2010 escape. *tr
Throttle body place sticking. *tr
As i was turning onto a busy street (turning right on red) my car without any indication suddenly lost power. i managed to coast into a parking lot and put the car into park and turn it off. i noticed a wrench symbol appear in the left panel, and the car immediately started again. i had just had my car serviced the day before (jan 19, 2013). this occurred approximately 3-4 times more over the next few days. i called the service department and described the problem, and took it in. they said they could fin no problem with my car that would cause this to happen. a week or so later it happened again. i called by to the service department and described that the same thing was still happening. they explained that they could see nothing on the machine that indicated a problem. i called ford and ask about any recalls and was told there were none for my vehicle. the service department recommended that i wait until the problem manifested and call because they were unable to duplicate the problem. months( late june) then it happened again. i took it in again and was told that everything was fine. on a trip to charlotte nc going approximately 70 mph in the left lane, my car suddenly lost power (scary!!!) i was able to make it to the right shoulder without incident. my car did this approximately eight times between concord nc and goldsboro nc (with two young children in the car). upon return, i called the service department and took it in again. this time they identified the throttle body--a day late and a dollar short--my car's warranty expired approximately two weeks earlier. my car is at the ford dealership as i write this waiting to be repaired. i am told the throttle body is on a national backlog. i feel that i have been mistreated as a consumer on so many levels. *tr
While driving there was a sudden loss of power. the wrench icon lit up on the dash display & the engine light came on too. there was no response from the gas pedal at all. the engine stayed on & all other features of the vehicle worked. i shut the car off & restarted the vehicle & continued driving. this occurred 4 times within a half hour. it was a miracle that i was not involved in an auto accident. i brought the vehicle back to a ford dealer where they replaced the throttle body. vehicle has been operating fine ever since & the gas pedal is more responsive than it was before. the original bumper to bumper warranty expired less than 2 months ago & i had to pay for this repair. i am very unhappy. *tr
Tl* the contact owns 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 64 mph, the wrench warning icon illuminated as the vehicle lost power. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 87,000. the vin was unavailable.
While traveling on a busy interstate, the accelerator suddenly stopped responding without any warning. the gas pedal did not work and the vehicle immediately started slowing down at an alarming rate. the check engine light displayed for the first time during this automatic shutdown. luckily we were able to get the vehicle over to the shoulder of the highway without an accident. there were no symptoms or warnings before the vehicle dangerously shut down suddenly. this same issue has randomly happened 5-6 more times the past few months. we pull the vehicle to the side of the road and turn it off each time. after waiting a few minutes, we start the vehicle, engine light goes off and so far have been able to get to our destination. the most recent incident happened a few days ago and the check engine light remained on after restarting the vehicle. we just had the vehicle checked for error codes and it shows p2112 throttle actuator stuck closed. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle stalled and the service engine light illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was confirmed that the throttle casing was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the failure and current mileage was 12,000. the vin was not available.
While driving in the left lane of a 3 lane interstate, my 2010 ford escape lost all acceleration and i had to carefully maneuver to the right shoulder. as i was losing acceleration, i nearly caused several accidents as i couldn't speed up as needed. when i finally made it to a complete stop, the vehicle continued to run with the wrench light on but i could not move. i turned off the vehicle, waited about a minute and was then able to restart the vehicle to return home. since i thought it was a one-time incident, i only mentioned it during an oil change and nothing was done. then it became a frequent occurrence, limiting my comfort in driving anywhere beyond 10 miles. when i called the service department of the local ford dealer, they were able to diagnose the problem over the phone, without needing me to bring it in. upon arrival at dealership, the throttle body needed was on national back order. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle decelerated then stalled. the vehicle was coasted to the side of the road. upon restarting, the vehicle resumed normally. the failure occurred three separate times. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the throttle assembly was replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 44,000. updated 3/28/13 *cn
On 30 december 2012 at approximately 5 pm i was driving my 2010 ford escape xlt on us 61 in port gibson, ms. i was traveling at approximately 55 mph with the cruise control engaged when the vehicle began to slow down unexpectedly. i glanced down to observe the gauges and discovered the cruise control had ceased functioning and the trouble light (shaped like a wrench) had illuminated. i pressed the accelerator pedal and the engine failed to respond. i pulled to the shoulder and shut down the engine. after checking under the hood for any loss of fluid or obvious mechanical failure i could detect nothing indicating a major mechanical failure. i restarted the engine and observed the gauges noting the trouble light was no longer present. thinking the problem may have been a temporary issue, i again proceeded to travel upon the highway for approximately 100 yards and again the same trouble light illuminated and i lost the ability to accelerate after reaching around 45 mph. i again pulled over, shut off the engine, and restarted. i managed to turn around and go home, but not before i had the same failure occur approximately 4 more times at 65 mph. i contacted ford roadside assistance and the vehicle is being towed to a dealership in vicksburg, ms, 35 miles away. this is the first time the vehicle has exhibited any defects since i purchased it in june, 2012 with approximately 33,000 miles on it. i feel this vehicle is not safe to be operated upon the roads and could endanger my family's safety as well as other motorists. *tr
This is the 2nd time i have taken my 2010 ford escape in for losing acceleration, stalling. the engine still runs but i am unable to accelerate. the car basically won't run, but will start up again. this is a major hazard if this were to happen on the freeway, or with a higher speed. it generally happens around 30 miles per hour. back in december, 2012 i took it in to bill brown ford and they could not figure out the problem, and returned the car to me, saying it didn't happen to them. after experiencing the problem on a daily basis all last week i took it in today to bil brown ford on plymouth rd in livonia, mi. they told me because i no longer have a warranty anything they do find i will have to pay for. it seems like with a safety concern like this they would fix it free of charge. someone could very well run into me from behind when i lose acceleration and cannot run the car. please i hope you can help and help others experiencing this problem. i hope they are able to diagnose the problem today and won't charge me for it. i didn't do anything to this car. it is not normal wear and tear. it should be fixed by ford before a crash happens. also of notation in case this helps i used regular gas only from december, (after this happened the first time), until last week when gas prices went up i switched to e-85. wondering if this might be the problem? i tried to run the gas tank down before filling up with regular unleaded this week as i heard. *tr
While driving to work, going approximately 40 mph, my car experienced a sudden loss of power and acceleration. the car did not respond when i pressed the gas pedal, and the engine was sputtering and the car would barely move forward. luckily i was able to pull into a parking lot and shut the car off. i had the car towed to a ford dealer, and was informed that the problem was the electronic throttle body. i soon found out that my third party warranty did not cover this part. the dealer stated that the warranty doesn't cover the part because they know it is going to malfunction in almost every ford escape. so i had to pay over $300 out of pocket to get a part fixed that the dealer knew was going to break! this is ridiculous! *tr
My wife was driving to work down a country road at about 55 mph with the cruise control on. all of the sudden she felt the car jerk and a wrench indicator light came on. the car immediately started to decelerate. she would push on the gas pedal and nothing would happen. luckily there was no traffic around and she was able to coast into a driveway. the vehicle was basically about to stall out so she turned it off. after 30 seconds she started it back up and it started fine. to be safe we had it towed to the dealership it was purchased from. the dealership said no error message was in the computer system. after consulting with ford the dealership told us that they were pretty sure it was the throttle body that needs replaced. we have not had the throttle body replaced do to the fact that the no error message was in the car computer and there seems to be no guarantee that $500 fix will take care of the issue. upon more research i have done it seems like this issue is a very wide spread issue and happening all over the country. i am just glad that this did not happen to my wife while she was on a busy highway during the morning rush hour, which she does take sometimes to work but this morning choice to go the back way. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 35-70 mph, the vehicle stalled as the wrench warning light illuminated. the contact was able to coast to the side of the road and restart the vehicle. the vehicle was later taken to a dealer where they advised her that they were unable to diagnose the failure however, the contact stated the dealer wanted $400 to replace throttle body, which was only guaranteed for 12 months. . the manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance, as the three year 36,000 miles warranty had expired. the failure mileage was approximately 45,000. the current mileage was approximately 45,400.
Vehicle lost acceleration; gas pedal would not work. vehicle moved very slowly. throttle control/powertrain warning light appeared (wrench). vehicle was turned off and restarted. warning light did not reappear and car ran normally. after some online research, i found many escape owners (not just 2010 owners, but other years as well) describing very similar incidents. my mechanic checked with ford dealer for throttle body part and was told they had plenty on hand since this part seemed to be in demand. cost me $313 dollars. *tr
As i was pulling out of my neighborhood to drive to work, the car barely made it into the lane of traffic before it stalled completely. i made it to the curb and was quite shaken by this incident. no warning lights had come on. this was very startling to me. after a few minutes, the car started but it shook as i shifted it into drive. i decided to drive with great care to the dealership. on the way there, as i was on an interstate road, it stalled again and i was frightened. i made it to the right curb. it was storming and i called my insurance company for a tow truck to deliver the car to autonation ford jacksonville at 10720 philips highway in jacksonville, fl (904-292-3325). the problem was diagnosed as a faulty throttle body. the repair costs totaled $498.86. *tr
Throttle became unresponsive and rpm's dropped to idle. luckily was able to coast out of traffic. there was no throttle response at all. problem has been random in nature over the past few months with no codes being presented. turning the car off and then back on again solved the problem (for a while). it has happened while cruising at highway speeds as well as when pulling out into an intersection. yesterday, the throttle quit responding completely and had to have it towed. code check reported p2111 and p2112. dealership indicated throttle body failure. very dangerous as complete loss of throttle control in traffic and when accelerating into traffic from an intersection leaves us in a position of limited control and can surprise other drivers because of our sudden loss of speed. this looks to be a well known problem and is severely dangerous in nature. *tr
