The problem started as just sounding like air pressure was releasing from the break peddle. before i could get it into the ford dealership the breaks started locking up in the break peddle to where i couldn't stop safely and feel comfortable transporting my self or my 11 year old daughter. i also in the same two days was at a stop light and the break under my foot slowly pushed up at a red light 30 seconds or so, and then locked and my car turned off while it was in gear. this, all apart of the recall, i'm being told is my problem not theirs, because my car was "born" or made only 5 months after they thought they fixed the problem with th new cars being manufactured. i am going to fight back and investigate this to the bitter end. i want a safe car. it has 74,000. miles on it, a break issue is a huge issue. that's the difference in life and death.
Break booster failed
I began to notice a whistling sound when i step on my brakes after starting but before moving. in addition the brakes felt spongy when stopping. i googled the symptoms and came up with ford service bulletin 13n02 concerning tears in the brake booster membrane. the dealer indicated my vehicle was not part of the campaign even though it is a 2013 edge. i would like to see this service campaign extended as the there appears to be affected edges outside the current vin # that are having the same issue as those covered under 13n02
Abs system failure - while the vehicle is in full speed motion and after applying brakes firmly for an abrupt stop, the braking system fails to distribute power equally to each brake causing the vehicle to fail in two specific performance features. first applying full braking capacity to slow the vehicle effectively and efficiently. second, the vehicle pulls to one side or the other in a random fashion. this performance makes the vehicle unsafe to drive as the power braking capacity is less than 30 percent. this failure was reported to the authorized ford dealer and they could not identify the failure or chose not to. this issue should have been a warranty issue but was not since the dealer did not identify during the warranty period, i was forced to pay the full repair cost months later.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving approximately 35 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle failed to stop. the contact had to apply excessive force to the brake pedal in order for the vehicle to stop. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the failure recurred numerous times. in addition, the contact had to use the automatic gear shifter in order to downshift. the vehicle was taken to ken grody ford (6211 beach blvd, buena park ca 90621, (714) 521-3110) and stated that the vin was not included in a recall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired due to the diagnostic and repair fees. the manufacturer was called and informed the contact that the issue would be escalated to ken grody ford. no further assistance was offered. the approximate failure mileage was 57,700.
13n02 has already been issued for this same issue on my same make and model vehicle; namely the brake booster. however, my vin was not valid for the agreed upon 10 year extended warranty/one time labor & material repair program. our vehicle has experienced a brake booster failure at 32288 miles. premature failure and what my family considers a safety risk. soft pedal results when pumping the brakes on just the second push downward.
Load hissing sound while pressing the brake pedal and feels spongy. while driving, especially when trying to come to a full stop, the pedal must be forcibly slammed to the floor or the vehicle will continue to travel. the dealer confirmed i have a faulty brake booster. ford has already recalled the brake booster on 2013 edge models manufactured until march 2013. my vehicle was manufactured in july 2013.
Door ajar will not go off, because if this the doors do not lock, inter lights will not go off.heats up inter light area, drains battery.
Brake booster failed. ford issued a letter covering this defect earlier, but refused to repair or pay for repair. situation was dangerous, and i had it repaired for $591.05. please help me obtain reimbursement. brakes would loose power.
The brakes have failed on me 3 times now, the dealership claims the brake booster was bad and replaced it the first time, the second time claims it was a bad piston inside the break booster. the brakes failed once when a car pulled out in front of me and i had to slam on the brakes, the second time was driving normally and the third today after the front tires lost traction in wet grass. this makes it to were you have to push the peddle all the way to the floor and hope the car comes to a stop.the check engine light comes on every time you accelerate to hard (like entering an interstate) then will go away after a few days. the code that pops up for it is turbo/super charger under boost. this makes the car really sluggish and hard to get up to speed.
I was slowly turning right into a gas station when my vehicle died. the steering froze and nothing worked. thankfully i was able to coast into the gas station where i put the car in park, turned it off, and then back on. it started fine. if i had been on the highway, i would be dead!!!! this is incredibly dangerous!!!!
7/9/17 brake pedal on my 2013 ford edge went to the floor while making a sudden stop almost rear ending the vehicle in front of me. brake pedal made a sound like a balloon deflating as it went to the floor. even in park the brake pedal would travel to the floor making the sound of a deflating balloon. took the car to the shop and was diagnosed as a brake booster failure costing me $630. mileage is 46,000
Brake booster failed at 65,375 miles. ford has issued an extended warranty on brake boosters, including 2013 models, however i was told my car was manufactured a couple of months after the manufacture dates of cars included in the warranty - so there was no warranty coverage for this $891.82 repair. the brake response on my car would intermittently become very stiff (hard to depress the brake pedal) and difficult to brake. this occurred in various places - including stopping at a stop sign before turning onto a very busy street, and at intersections. a little hissing noise could be heard while braking, as well. this unpredictable resistance to braking efforts created a dangerous driving condition. i have read many accounts of other drivers whose brakes also depressed completely, without satisfactory braking, due to this defective brake booster. i was told that the booster installed on my car was not defective, but i am convinced it was, as well as the others that have been replaced by the extended warranty. i feel strongly that this should be a ford recall issue, rather than being addressed as a warranty item, due to the danger of operating a vehicle with a defective braking system (due to faulty brake booster design), and i believe my car was built with a faulty brake booster. i was told my car was built with a ford motorcraft brake booster (motorcraft part #2005(brb-47, ford part #ba1z2005a). the replacement booster installed to replace the failed booster was the same number.
Built online november 2012 and delivered to searcy ar april 22, 2013 now with mileage 120,000 brakes hissing told it is power brake booster which was recalled but ended on march 2013 but my vehicle was built by then and being delivered so why not be part of the recall??? please see your records on this. being repaired mcclung ford mountain view ar wanting payment from me.
No brakes.. car is 4 years old with only 58,000 miles and brake booster had to be replaced.
The brake booster failed at around 40,000 miles. while driving slowly with pressure applied to the brake the car slows but then when i apply additional pressure to stop the brake is hard and rolls to a stop instead of stopping where it should. if i am parking it will almost roll into the car parked in front. dealership said the booster is gone.
All four rotors failed before the brake pads failed. the dealer says this is normal wear and tear. however the vehicle has been lightly used. it seems the brake rotors are made of defective materials subject to abnormal corrosion. ford customer service refused to cover the parts under warranty. this is a safety issue that i will have to resolve and pay for.
Brake booster failure similar to same model year vehicles which have an extended warranty for this problem. this vehicles vin is not covered by the extended warranty even though it has the identical problem.
Ford has a known problem with the brake booster on the edge. being proactive to have mine my original equipment brake booster replaced.
Break booster went out. this causes the break pedal to be hard to press and delay in breaking.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while attempting to apply the brakes, the contact had to place extra pressure on the brake pedal in order for the vehicle to begin to stop. the brakes also made a hissing type noise. the contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who stated that the brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there were no recalls regarding the failure. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 69,000.
My brake booster failed. it had a hissing sound when the pedal was depressed, and the brakes were extremely difficult to actuate when driving under any conditions. i know there was a similar recall on the ford edge but they tell me that mine is not affected or covered. i just paid to have it replaced at 23,126 miles.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving approximately 65 mph, the brakes failed when the brake pedal was depressed. the contact had to apply excessive force to the brake pedal in order for the vehicle to slow down. the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, alan car care, who diagnosed that the brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in the recall. the approximate failure mileage was 54,000.
Brake pedal drop to floor and vehicle dies, also turns on check eng lite due to vacuum loss dealer then tries to sell you emission parts due to code, my car is may build 5/1/ the 3/1 are under recall same please please check into this. the dealer only pulls up what is on his computer . you will never know the amount of vehicles that are affected.do to there records not being available to you..
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving approximately 20 mph, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle when the brake pedal was depressed. the vehicle accelerated without warning and the contact crashed into a pole. the contact sustained arm, knee, and back injuries that required medical attention. a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed major repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
At approximately 76,000 miles, my 2013 ford edge's brakes failed. i was on the interstate when i hit the brakes. the brakes were hard to press & the vehicle did not slow down. i pressed down harder & came to a very hard & sudden stop. thankfully there was no one following & i was able to avoid an accident. i slowed & within a couple of seconds brakes became responsive again. i needed to get home so i drove as slow as possible staying away from other cars, however brakes worked without issues. approaching home there were multiple stop signs & again the brakes locked & the car did not stop. i also heard a loud whistling noise in the car. i took the car to the dealer & even though the dealer says they know brakes are failing in the 2010-2013 ford edges, there is no recall, only a customer service program that does not apply to my vin. this program number is 13n02 and extends the coverage out to 150k miles on selected vehicle's. i contacted ford @ 1-866-436-7332 to express my problem & concern. i spoke to 4 different representatives that all recited the same script. the script basically said sorry your car is experiencing a problem and to have a certified ford dealership fix it at my cost. apparently someone decided that the expense of the estimated number of people they put at risk of death or injury is still less than what it would cost them to fix their faulty brakes. here is the kicker, i bought this car certified pre owned in early 2016. how was ford of port richey, able to certify this car when the brakes were already failing!!!!! they sold me a death trap! i have decided to have a local and highly recommended shop fix my vehicle rather than line the pockets of ford that seemed ok with placing my family & others at risk while being aware of the problems with the installed faulty brake boosters.
Brake booster failure
At approximately 46,000 miles, my 2013 ford edge's brakes failed. i was on the interstate behind a semi truck when they hit the brakes. brakes were locked, hard to press and the vehicle did not slow down. thankfully there was no one on the following lane and i was able to avoid an accident. i decelerated and within a couple of seconds brakes became responsive again. i needed to make it home, drove trying to go as slow as possible and staying away from other cars, however brakes worked without issues. approaching home there was a stop sign and again i was lucky enough to avoid an accident when the brakes locked and the car did not stop. this time a loud whistling noise filled the cabin. to add insult to injury, even though the dealer says they know brakes are failing in their f150's and ford edges, there is no recall, and they made me pay a deductible to fix the car that is under warranty. apparently someone decided that the expense of the estimated number of people they put at risk of death or injury is still less than what it would cost them to fix their faulty brakes. here is the kicker, i bought this car certified pre owned in july 2016. i got my car back today, they fixed the faulty brake boosters and the cabin is uncharacteristically quiet. since i had bought the car there was a quiet hiss when i hit the brakes and the sales person told me that was normal for the car, i never had a ford before and the brakes did work originally so i didn't give it another thought. but now that its quiet i know that the brakes were failing at that point. how was bill currie ford in tampa, able to certify this car when the brakes were already failing!!!!! they sold me a death trap!
After 30,000 miles we took our 2013 ford edge for service and for $800 they changed oil, rotated tires, etc. they also noticed that our brakes and rotors had to be replaced due to wear and rust. this cost an additional $700. we have driven numerous vehicles and kept them to 100,000 miles and have never had this concern.
Brake booster on ford edge failed suddenly at 60-70k miles. noticed it suddenly when driving the car one afternoon. at the first stop light, had to stomp on the brakes to slow the car to a stop, because normal brake pressure had hardly any effect. knew something else was wrong, because brake pads and calipers were recently replaced. this is a known issue covered under customer satisfaction program 13n02, however my vehicle appears to have been manufactured a few months after the 5/3/10-3/28/13 manufacturing window covered by the program. therefore ford has refused to fix my issue. this is insane since my car was manufactured in exactly the same way and with the same parts as the other vehicles covered. this is a huge safety issue, as the brakes are very difficult to engage fully. the program also states that "the fundamental breaking system remains functional" and "the effort required to stop the vehicle will increase gradually" in reality you have to stomp the brake all the way down to the floor with hard pressure to slow the car even a little bit. i would not call that "functional". people will probably die because of this issue. and it's reckless for ford to have picked some arbitrary manufacturing dates to be covered. possibly they haven't received enough complaints yet from the ones produced just after this because they are still a little newer? this is *tr
Recall #13n02 driving down the road and the brake booster completely failed; had to practically stand on the brake pedal to stop. found this recall, and it appeared to cover my year, but was told by ford that my vin was not included. spent about 400.00 out of pocket to replace.
I first noticed a hissing sound when i would push the brake pedal. it then became sometimes difficult to press the brake pedal but then also like it did not work and would go all the way to the floor. at times, when i have the car stopped using the brakes it feels as though they are slipping and the car will lunge. i saw there was a bulletin issued by ford to extend the warranty on this issue but when i reached out they told me my car was manufactured two months after the cutoff. when i asked what was changed to exclude my car they refused to give me an answer.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while approaching a traffic light, the vehicle failed to stop. the contact had to pump the brake pedal several times in order for the vehicle to come to a complete stop. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact stated that the vehicle has had brake issues since january 15, 2016. the vehicle was taken to dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake boosters needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 56,000.
2013 ford edge, the brakes are difficult to apply and make a hissing noise. without warning the pedal will go to the floor and the vehicle will stall. this has happened on the highway and on residential streets, and always when you are trying to stop. at times you literally have to use both feet to fully stop the vehicle. the issue started at the beginning of october and has been happening more frequent. i will no longer bring this vehicle on the highway. why has there been no recall issued on this, or are we waiting for people to die or be seriously injured?
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving into the garage, the brake pedal was depressed, but seemed to be locked. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake booster failed and needed replacement. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 42,000. the vin was unavailable.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. when depressing the brake pedal, there was a hissing sound. the vehicle was slow to decelerate and the engine shook and nearly stalled. the dealer diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced and was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 36,057.
On 9/19/2016, reported problem of unable to stop when applying brakes. first time happened when exiting parking lot and ran stop sign. second time happened as approached stoplight. later on wife had similar problems stopping from 35mph at stop sign and other stoplights. problem was leaking brake booster covered under extended warranty recall #13n02. this recall was not previously noted on ford.com, but it showed up today, 9/20/2016.
Approached stop sign, from parking lot at approx 8-10 mph. applied brakes, but they went soft and entered two lane highway approx. 2 feet. dump truck swerved to miss me. cautiously drove home but at first stoplight i encountered, same thing happened, nearly running into car in front of me. wife left that evening to deliver meal to my elderly mother. she said that same thing happened to her at one stop sign and two stoplights. (car was in motion during all incidents. mine happened while leaving a parking lot and entering a two-lane highway. hers happened on two lane road near home and four-lane intersection across town. this is really a scary scenario. made appointment to take car to dealer on monday sept. 19. 2016.
While driving to work on 9/8/16 on a mail thoroughfare, i had to hit the brakes hard because a vehicle pulled out it front of me. since that time the brake pedal has been inconsistent (firm/soft) and when it goes soft it requires more stopping distance. in addition when stopped at a light or stop sign and pressing down on the brake pedal there is a squealing sound coming from under the dash/firewall area. after taking vehicle to local mechanic it was determined to be the brake booster/vacuum pump attached to the master cylinder that has failed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while operating the vehicle at slow speeds, the engine suddenly shut off. also, while depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle would not immediately stop. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake booster and throttle system were faulty. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 58,000.
Brake booster - there is a known problem with a defective part (brake booster) on the ford edge as identified by ford in the customer satisfaction program 13n02. despite ford's knowledge of the faulty/defective part, they only issued a recall for vehicles built at the oakville assembly plant. my car began to fail about 2 weeks ago and i took it to be serviced. the technician told me there was nothing wrong with it. the symptoms were engine light was on and the car was shutting down when stopped at red light or stop signs. after a week or so my brakes gave out suddenly causing me to veer off the road to avoid hitting a car. i took it back to the ford service area and was told that the brake booster was bad and that was causing the brake failure and the engine cutting off. ford is aware of the dangerous brake failure caused by the faulty/defective brake booster, but refuses to recall all vehicles that are having this problem. this is a road hazard and consumer safety issue that causes unsafe conditions that ford needs to acknowledge on all ford edge vehicles and not a select few.
I currently own a 2013 ford edge 2013 that is experiencing brake failure. during braking (while in motion, in the city, highway, interstate, and turning the vehicle loses significant breaking performance. when pressing the brake to stop the vehicle the vehicle does not stop at times and the brake pedal hardens and hisses during breaking. this began wednesday, june 22, 2016. in review ford motor company has a recall on the brake booster for years 2010-2013. when contacting ford motor company and speaking to aaron employee number 62306, he stated that my vehicle fell a few months outside of the covered vehicles. spoke to jeremy at stivers ford dealership in montgomery, al. they will not review the issue unless i pay $ 99.95 diagnostic testing and there is no guarantee that ford nor stiver will relieve the financial burden of the repairs nor supply a loaner for the duration of fixing. after several attempts to get help, including contacting the service manager of stiver's ford jeff anderson, there has been no urgent matter to fix or help with getting this resolved. as it stands this vehicle is safety hazard and is losing its braking performance which will lead to road hazard of possible fatality. this is only means of transportation for my family of myself (single mother and two small children).
Takata recall we bought the 2013 ford edge new and within a week started to here noise in the brakes , we called the dealer an they said its probably because the car sits garage too much. so we put more miles on the car drove it more now at just over 22,000 miles the brakes started getting really noisy an became a bumping sound you could here while starting to step up the speed . we got scared to drive it so took it to my mechanic . they took apart the brakes and they pads and rotors were all shot and will cost me over $500 to fix . we called the dearler who said that it is out of warrentee.
I have two major problems and safety issues with this car. first is the power booster, which is covered under extended warranty. symptoms of booster issue are spongy brakes that then went hard with little resistance accompanied by hissing sound coming from brakes. the second issue is a defective throttle body. three times in as many days when food is on brake, the brake pushes back essentially having lost power brakes and requiring both feet firmly pressed on brake to even remotely slow car down, unable to completely stop vehicle, at the same time i lose power steering and cannot control direction of car, the warning light "low oil pressure" illuminates on the dash. this does not send car into so called "limp home" mode it renders the car essentially inoperable. if i turn the car off and then back on again it returns to normal driving function....until it happens again. i've been lucky that this happened backing out of my driveway and in straight lane stop and go traffic on city streets. had this happened when i was driving along a curvy mountain road, along the coast or on a los angeles freeway moving 65 mph..i doubt i would have been so lucky. i cannot believe the throttle issue in the edge is not covered under the extended warranty given to other ford model cars or even more that this isn't a sweeping safety recall. i am risking life and limb of myself and my two young children driving this car. this is my first ford and will probably be my last. ford should be ashamed of themselves.
Dangerous and faulty braking system. brakes sometimes feel spongy and to the floor and other times hard like a brick with very little give and the car is extremely difficult to stop and impossible to brake quickly. there is a hissing sound present when the brake pedal is depressed. most challenging in stop and go traffic or coming off of high speeds going downhill. terrifying to drive especially with my children in the car.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving 35 mph around a curve, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 46,000.
I was driving down the street and my brakes failed. i had to hit the curb to stop the vehicle. this is truly a safety issued , i was told my booster for the brakes failed and it was too new of a vehicle to have this problem and that it needed to be reported and addressed by the ford company. this is very dangerous no warning at all and this repair was very costly.
Brake extended warranty 13n02: warranty covers vehicles through build date 3/2013 my vehicle has build date 7/2013 built at same plant listed in warranty extension 13n02. i experienced same problem described in 13n02.my vehicle isn't covered. i'm sure i am not the only one. its the brakes. serious safety concern. all vehicles with the brake problem should be covered.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving 25 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to respond. the brake pedal was difficult to apply and made a lot of noise. when the vehicle stopped ,the engine turned off and the "engine lost power" warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 58,520.
The passenger side inside brake pad was worn down to the metal. the outside of the passenger brake pad and the driver side brake pads were almost like new. i've paid over $300 in parts and labor to have rotors and pads replaced. this incident will most likely happen again. the vehicle is not under warranty. there have been others who have complained about the same issue. this is a safety issue, but i'm not sure how much of a safety issue it is. hopefully nothing happens during our daily commute.
