If i fill my tank and i drive it away from the pump, it will stutter, hesitate, jerk, then die. i lose all power steering, brakes, engine. afterwards, it won't immediately restart. it will start again after a few minutes. it won't start driving good again until i run the gas level down a little. after i fill, it will run ok until i make a turn or come to a stop, something that will slosh the fuel in the tank again then it will act like it is starved for fuel. this happens everytime i fill my tank. if i don't fill it completely then it will do it. it never did this when i first bought my car. one time after i this happened, i opened the gas cap and it was hissing and spitting gas just sitting there. this is a very dangerous situation as if this happened on the highway i could become involved in a collision. it has happened at least a half dozen time and have since not filled my tank up until today and it happened again. *tr

2005 dodge magnum the electronic shifter will not come out of park into reverse at various times. this defect is widely known throughout the automotive community and should be recalled as it affects many vehicles. *tr

Every time you fill car with gas it stalls you have to burn off gas before you can drive. *tr

On march 19, 2011, i was cruising with some friends of mine through belton, tx. as we were driving along, the malfunction light came on in my car. i was wondering what was going on. i pulled the car over to the side of the road and turned it off. i waited a few seconds and then started the car again. i placed the car into "drive" and continued on. as i was driving along, i was lightly pressing the accelerator with my right foot. you can hear the engine revving up but the car wasn't moving. i pulled the car over to the side of the road again and turned it off. i waited a few more seconds and started the car again. when i placed the car in drive and pressed the accelerator the car didn't move at all. i then tried the car in reverse. again the engine was revving up but the car wasn't moving. i called a tow truck and had it towed to a dodge dealership. upon inspection by the mechanics, the torque converter went out and spread metal through the whole transmission. i had this car a little over a month with 56,980 miles on it and now this happens. this is ridiculous!!!!! with the car in the shop i have no car to get back and forth to work. i feel like i have been robbed!!!!!!!

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge magnum. while driving approximately 65 mph, the engine overheated without warning and caused the vehicle to stall. the vehicle was towed to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test which located the failure at the engine cooling module. the dealer advised that the engine would need to be replaced. the transmission gear shifter had also failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure and current mileage was 98,500.

Dodge magnum 2005 shifter broken wont shift out of park had to replace shifter because of a little broken plastic piece seems to be a common problem. can not even use the override button! checking on the computer seems to be alot of these shifters being replaced. i have worked on cars for over 35 years have yet to replace a shifter assembly.there should be recall on this or a class action law suit. *tr

Shift interlock system the factory lock out mechanism is known weakness of 2005 to 2007 transmissions on dodge and chrysler cars the most common symptom of this factory failure is the vehicle not being able to get out of park when you engage your transmission. due to a plastic part a.k.a. (pink little clip) and a $0.50 spring the guy from the tow truck company told me that he tows at least 1 or 2 cars with this problem every day. the dealer told me that the only way to fix this is to replace the gear shifter... $450 i bought he extended guarantee from dodge to cover my car for 5 years or $100,000 miles but of course that part is not covered and even if it was still under warranty, i will get another shifter that will eventually fail due to poor engineering looks to me like it should have been a recall by now. *tr

Car stuck in park. shifter will not move out of park. *tr

2005 dodge magnum with shifting problem will not release from park position. *tr

There is a obvious defective part regarding the shift assembly on dodge magnums, chrysler 300's & dodge chargers. a plastic gearpiece on the shift assembly is known by service advisors at dodge & tow truck operators that bring in several cars to dodge dealerships with the same problem. the issue is once this flimsy piece of plastic is broken, it prevents the vehicle from shifting into any gear. the repair to fix this known issue is about $500.00 dollars at a dodge dealership. something needs to be done to make dodge be responsible for its vehicles. *tr

My 2005 dodge magnum will shift out of park. this was found after parking it at home and trying to leave for work. was told this was a common problem with this car and dodge has no recall for this known problem. i had to pay over $450 to have car repaired out of my own pocket. dodge calls this a safety interlock problem. a plastic pink piece that breaks and you have to buy a whole shifter not just the 29 cent piece of plastic. *tr

Locked in park, second time this has happened, only has 37000 mile, shifter was replaced in june 08, 22000 miles. *tr

Things such as hair, liquids, dust, dirt and other debris falls down into the gear shifter of the dodge model cars causes shifter problems. the gear shifter will lock in park, and will not move to any of the other gears. dodge service department manager confirms that this is a common problem in all of the dodge model cars. the only way to correct the failure permanently is to replace the gear shifter. this can cost anywhere from the low end of $325 to high end $425 including parts and labor. to force the car to shift gears you will have to manually remove the console over the shifter and manually shift which uses the gears from under the dashboard. this is not the way a car designed to drive and is not safe to shift gears from the dashboard. there are forums online regarding this failure in addition to other consumer complaints. please visit http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?p=1538277. *tr

On 5/31/2010 i drove our 2005 dodge magnum 2.7 engine to the mall with my daughters. upon leaving the mall we entered the vehicle. i then started the vehicle and proceeded to place the vehicle in drive. the vehicle would not shift into drive. i found the override switch and it did not work either. we ended up have to call tow truck and my children and i had to find transportation home. a mechanic was able to look in the gear box and he pointed out the there is a design flaw which allows the shift piece to lock itself in place causing the vehicle to lock itself in the park position. he was able to rig the vehicle so that it can be driven but only if i don't put it in park. which means i must park the car in neutral and make sure the emergency brake is on. *tr

My transmission suddenly failed while i was on a very busy highway, the long island expressway. i was driving in the left lane when suddenly i was not able to operate the vehicle. the car stopped. no prior warnings, no recall from dodge. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge magnum. when the contact placed the gear into park, the vehicle rolled backwards. the dealer stated that the anchor releases if the emergency brake is not engaged. when the emergency brake is engaged, the gear shifter will not move out of park. the vehicle was previously repaired under warranty by the dealer; however, the warranty is currently expired. the dealer will not repair the vehicle for free. the failure mileage was 77,583.

My 2005 dodge magnum's gear shift was stuck in park and would not allow me to operate the vehicle leaving us stranded away from home. it cost over $600 to repair. a check of the internet shows this has happened to many others and thus is probably a manufacturing defect that dodge should correct. *tr

The shift lever will not move front park. i have to leave my vehicle in neutral, and apply the parking brake. i found out there was a recall, i went to the dealer and they informed me my vehicle vin number is not included in the recall. i have dealt with this problem for years. i hope you can assist me in getting this problem resolved.. the date that i put in when the problem occurred is estimated. it's been so long i don't remember when it started.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge magnum. the contact stated that the gear shift would periodically get stuck. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, but they were unable to duplicate the failure. the contact felt that this was a manufacturer's defect. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 17,600. the vin was not available. updated 02/09/12*lj

Car would not come out of park without having to playing with brakes, then later escalated to it having to be turned off and on several times. took it into dealer several times and they would adjust something and say it was good. finally after warranty expired i took it in again and they found the problem. solenoid was failing and they charged $350.00 to replace it. this is / was dangerous because it could easily strand you someplace and in my case standard me once at a military check point for 20 minutes. *tr

Tl*the contact owned a 2005 dodge magnum. while parked, the vehicle rolled away on its own. on another occasion, the vehicle was placed in park and attempted to roll away again. the contact was able to chase the vehicle down to stop it from rolling into traffic. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v460000 (power train: automatic transmission); however, the dealer stated that there were too many vehicles to service and advised the contact to come back another day. when the contact returned to the dealer, he was informed again that the recall repairs could not be performed and he would have to reschedule. the failure mileage was 500 and current mileage was 600.

The car stalls on turns. this has happened several times over the course of a month. found out on june 12, 2008 that dodge has a "service bulletin" out to update the computer to stop the car from stalling! when were they going to tell the customers after we have an accident! i am just lucky that i haven't been hit from this stalling problem. this is the 4 recall of something on this car and i am very sorry that i ever bought this dodge magnum. *tr

Vehicle: 2005 dodge magnum r/t with hemi engine with approx. 76,000 miles (car put into service in late spring '04). i was driving on the highway and all of a sudden the car started whining -- like it was in the wrong gear. i pulled over, couldn't hear anything and got back on the road -- everything sound okay. the next morning, after driving for about 1 mile, the same thing occurred -- i was going about 55-60 miles per hour. after i put the vehicle in park and back into drive, everything seemed to be okay. the next day, the engine/transmission light came on for a few minutes and the car again sounded funny, but now if i slowed down or stopped the vehicle (like for a stop light), the car sounded as if it was still in fourth or fifth gear when i put on the gas. i took the car into the dealership immediately and was informed by the dealership that the transmission wiring harness was so burned up that technicians could not get a read out from any of the associated computers to determine what the error codes were relating to my transmission/engine. i was also informed that it could not be determined what caused the harness to melt the wiring. chrysler refuses to explore cause or to pay for repair. i am concerned that this could have been a disaster and i just got lucky before the vehicle caught on fire. *tr

2005 dodge magnum, vehicle locks up in park and cannot be moved, has to be towed. the dealer knows about the shift problem but it is not on a recall. i have read the dodge forum and there are 19 cases about the same problem. depending where you go it costs $250-$600. this should be a recall. *tr

My 2005 dodge magnum sxt has been in and out of the shop for over the last 50,000 miles. i have gotten all kinds of reasons why my transmission shudders and shifts hard into most gears. on 7/26/08 i couldn't take it anymore, i asked them to just fix the problem that could not be found over the year and a half. it was finally decided that i need a transmission rebuild. the reason for the problem, no one knows. i was also told this is an isolated incident, which is not true based upon all the recent information i have found on the internet. *tr

Bought an 05 hemi awd magnum w/20,000 miles in 07. warranty expired at 85,000miles. problems after problems, rack and pinion fixed, egr valve fixed, torque converter replaced once and still having the same issue. shudders, vibrations, hard engine noises and stalls, pulls to the right, electrical problems with windows, sunroof, seats, gps, instrument cluster, power outlets, hood and hatchback just fall down and bump your head. passenger seat was missing bolts and wasn't fastened to frame. $200 keyless entry key replacement. no where near 24 mpg more like 14 down a flat 55mph highway. currently 114,000 miles oil always changed around 3,000 miles and had a 3 tranny flushes. take it to certified dodge dealerships and they cant figure out what is wrong with any of those problems and try and tell me that's the way it is. uhhhhhhhuh..... lemon? *tr

Engine quiting at highway speeds and at take off, resulting in uncontrolable vehicle. transmission shudder when overdrive engaged. dealer corrected fill tube seal defect, unkown if fluid flush performed. shudder occured again, dealer said this time it was caused by bad/worn spark plugs, not transmission ($237). unknown if tsb for ignition coil was performed, when asked dealer said all related tsb's for magnum vin had been applied. left dealer and in 10 minutes check engine light was on. made appointment for next day. *jb

Crowhopping is the term used by most websites google crowhopping magnum rt awd tells it all on multiple websites with multiple customers..dodge has seem to term a blind ear to this year model that seems to have the same as another year with the issue. contacted dealer main office...and they said they never heard of this no surprise. *tr

2005 dodge magnum - transmission failure 2 times in 1 week. known issue with dodge - service bulletin issued. transmission was repaired as per bulletin - picked up car from dodge repair, jasper dodge, jasper alabama, drove 115 miles with 3 year old and 7 year old in vehicle and transmission shut down doing 70 mph on hwy 78. could have been fatal. since this was a known issue and since it appears that their service repair failed to resolve problem - i personally feel the vehicle should be recalled before a fatal accident occurs. at 70 mph vehichle just lost all power. had i been in a major metropolitan area, i may not have been so lucky.

Engine signal was on and trasmision was not reponding ,when you give it gas
