Problems with 2005 Dodge Magnum ENGINE

On average, the 2005 Dodge Magnum starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 101 221 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2005 Dodge Magnum

After fueling at a gas station and only fueling until the pump shuts off, the engine dies about a block away. this happens every time the vehicle gets a full tank of gas.

After filling my car with gas it runs rough and stalls several times while moving. after restarting it several times it seems ok until the next time i fill the gas again. when it stalls it sounds like the drivetrain is messing up. it does this city highway turning or straight. this has been happening regularly for at least 6 weeks only right after filling and sporadically for about 4 months or more.

I have a 2005 dodge magnum and i went into the cleaners to drop my clothes off. i went in the cleaners and came out and attempted to start my car and it wouldn't start. i thought it was the fuel pump. i had my car towed to the shop and the mechanic stated it was my engine was out. i think its the timing chain. i seen recalls for my engine but they state its for the newer version of the hemi but i think its all the same recall. i get my car maintenance at the dodge dealership and i haven't had any engine problems, no check engine lights , loss af power. there were literally no signs. i had got my oil changed at the dealership within a month of the incident.

When filling gas tank to a full condition the engine will die suddenly without warning. the car/engine will stall unexpectedly after leaving gas station often in a perilous position. does not happen unless car is over 3/4 full of fuel. if the car is filled up it can die anytime at any moment.

After filling up with gas, the engine will stall and shut off at an idle. this happens immediately after filling up the gas tank. once i make it home after it stalls 2 to 3 time and it sits over night it is fine the next day. the engine stalls when sitting at a red light at idle speeds.

After my airbag recall, the car stopped running above 20mph. returned it to the dealership only to find that it was the power control module, that would cost $1500 to fix. somethings not right here..

Alternator catch fire while driving no other problems good battery good everything

Recently bought this car took it to the shop because the car was cutting off on its own whether parked or in drive which is very dangerous. had it checked out and it came up with a code for crankshaft position sensor, got that changed the code went away but the car still turns off on its own and no codes show up. crankshaft has now been changed 2 times&& the electrical things were checked just to be safe!&& a few days ago i was driving maybe about 35mph & the car decelerated on its own and i couldn't accelerate had to turn the car off then back on.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge magnum. while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled and lost power without warning. the vehicle was towed to puente hills chrysler dodge jeep ram (17280 gale ave, city of industry, ca 91748) where it was diagnosed that the engine failed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 174,000.

Magnum 5.7l hemi was started in carport and sounds like a hammer beating inside the motor. removed head ...... valve seat dropped destroying the head, piston cylinder wall, intake manifold and all associated mechanical and electrical parts.

Car kept stalling while driving. on two occasions it was very dangerous as the car stalled in the middle of intersections. spent $1500 on replacing/fixing parts that never solved the problem. finally i researched it found out it could be a fuel tank issue.

Vavle seat recall

When pulling into driveway. my motor which up until this point has given me no problems started to violently shake and cut off. went to start the car and got a loud clanging in motor which has been determined to be a dropped valve seat

This is my second magnum, with only 32,000 miles . i called to have my car looked at and fixed this one has same issues , but i have to pay out of pocket for everything , hemi engines from 2005 to 2007 are dropping valve seats after 100,000 miles i want mine fixed before it happens to me again we definitely need a recall on these engines

Takata recall check engine light is on running hot acts like its going to stall

On may 2, 1016 i took my car to the lube shop to have my fluids topped off and my air pressure checked before i left town. i drove my car in and had to have it towed out. after looking at my vehicle, dodge told me i have a blown valve seat. my car purred like a kitten. it never overheated, didn't burn oil, never smoked, didn't make any knocking noises...nothing. there was no warning! the service manager looked me square in the face and lied to me saying, this problem is "really, really, really rare" but that i was basically screwed since my car is out of warranty. i have researched this issue all week and have found out that this issue is not rare and dodge is fully aware of the defect in the valve seat. i cannot understand why there has not been a recall on this. so you buy a car and expect that since you keep it well maintained with all maintenance routinely done and it doesn't matter...in the blink of an eye...catastrophic failure. are you kidding me? when dodge told me this was "really, really, really rare" they admitted to being aware of the issue and should be held responsible for the design flaw in the hemi with the valve seats dropping. i plan on starting a petition that would cause dodge to have to initiate a recall on this defective motor. this is not fair. i had my car at dodge less than 6 months ago for a hemi tune-up and when i asked the mechanic if he saw any forewarning of this he said absolutely not. this car was so perfectly maintained that after i had it there for service, the sales department called me two different times asking if i wanted to sell my car to them. i am going to get satisfaction for this failure one way or another.

I have a 2005 dodge magnum that i take extremely good care of. my car has had all of it's regular maintenance. a month ago i stopped at the lube shop to have the fluids and air pressure checked on my car before i headed out of town. the only fluid that was topped off was my windshield wiper fluid. when i tried to start my car to leave, it would not start. i had my car towed to dodge. two days later i was informed by my service writer that i needed a new motor. dodge told me that i dropped a #4 valve seat. the service manager told me that this problem was "really, really, really rare" and that only about "1 in a billion" this happens to. i am crushed. i went home and have been researching this issue in depth. this is not rare like dodge claims. i have come across 100's of other dodge owners with the same exact problem who are now left holding the bag. something has to be done about this. most of the vehicles this has happened to are already out of warranty. dodge is aware of the faulty valve seats that are basically (for lack of a better term) glued in. there is absolutely no warning this is going to occur. my car never got hot, never smoked, never burned oil, never hesitated, never ran rough; it always happens when a car is being started and that is why it hasn't been recalled, because it is not considered a "safety" issue. interestingly enough, the new models have the valve seats pressed and pinned in so this issue doesn't continue to occur. recognizing that there was a flaw in the hemi motor and re-engineering it to fix the issue is admitting there was a defect. dodge needs to recall the 2005-2007 hemi motors and address the dropping valve seats. this is not fair and dodge knows it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge magnum. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle restarted after a few attempts. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 72,000.

Repair for this was $3700.00 to rebuild the clk mercedes benz transmission dodge installed in the car. light never went out...4 months in the repair iits still not drivable needs the head re-done, new plugs, ignition coils were replaced. senors repair, in new a new engine due to engine overheating, transmission, electrical failure. i'm a single mother of 4 i can't afford to loss more money or my transportation. thanks

I have had an ongoing problem with my 2005 dodge magnum rt 5.7l 58,000 mi on it. after filling up the gas tank , the vehicle will shut down during driving many times before finally going again. all power including the power steering goes. i didn't relate the problem at first with fueling , this has been happening for a few years. i took it to the dodge dealer a few years ago , and had the pcm , and other parts replaced , stalled on the way home. nothing has worked so far. this seems to be an ongoing problem with these vehicles . i don't even trust it to drive on the highway , and i don't like even putting my grandchildren in the car , because you never know, it could stall anywhere, i planned on keeping this car for a long time i still have very low miles on it., and now i fear it. dodge needs to do something about this. i haven't seen any recalls on this , but i have seen some people have had the fuel tank replaced stating it is the rollover valve. just because these cars are older doesn't mean we have to give them up . dodge please help! we shouldn't have to pay for a problem in 85+% of the cars

Valve seats dropped in engine cylinder causing complete destruction of the engine, intake and exhaust manifolds. this was noticed on startup.

Car stalls going around corners. 10th incident happened today. all within past year.

I have a 2005 dodge magnum as i was driving home the etc light came on the dash board, then moments later my car just died, shut completely down, i let it sit for a little bit then cranked it back up, but it kept shutting down with the etc light continuing to come on , i then took it to auto care to get it looked at, .... they said it was the throttle body, they replaced it and i paid $168, the next morning i go to get in my car and the light comes back on and same problem happens they now say they must of gotten a faulty throttle body, changed it out again, next morning same thing happens, now they replace the main computer take it to dodge get the computer reprogrammed and i pay $267.00, guess what next day it does it again. now dodge has my car and they replace a solenoid-throttle body , i pay them $476.00 after telling them the hole story they still replace the throttle body. guess what the next morning i have my car towed back to dodge dealership, doing the same thing.... they now replace the board and say it might be a wiring problem but they think they got it, they have no idea what is wrong with my car .very frustrating i wish someone could help me.. okay now i started to poke around myself at home and found that one of the four wire harnesses to the coumuter is to blame. i push on it and the car goes into limp mode. i now have an appointment to have a dealer fix it. i don't want to start only to find i can't buy the wire terminators needed in the plug.

At a stop light, i was exiting the freeway, i began to accelerate, and then the car just died. hours and thousands later i was diagnosed with a dropped valve seat. caused damage to 3 pistons/rings, both cylinder heads, intake manifold, damaged lifters, and camshaft.

My 2005 dodge magnum rt 5.7hemi has stalling problem.my car stalls from time to time when i come to a complete stop , at a lite or stop sign. i put the car back in park and it starts back up like nothing was wrong. their is no code. the dealer can,t find a problem. i have spent a lot of money trouble shooting the problem. this has been going on for several months.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge magnum. while operating the vehicle, a knocking noise was present from the engine. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine was faulty and needed to be replaced. the contact also indicated that the transmission previously failed and was replaced. the failure mileage was 77,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge magnum. the contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that an unknown part needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

I was stopped at light. the light turned green. i pressed the accelerator pedal. something exited the passenger side of engine block causing a large hole. catastrophic engine failure ensued. i turned the ignition to the off position. i turned the hazard lights on. i coasted to the nearest side road where i stopped the vehicle. i finished my morning coffee waiting for a tow truck there were no accidents, crashes, fires or injuries other than that done to my hemi pride.

while driving down the highway or sitting in park, the bas light on the dash will come on, when it does this the engine goes to 800 rpm idle and the transmission goes into neutral, rendering of the vehicle in capable of driving until the vehicle comes to a complete stop, is placed in park, ignition shut off and restarted. then you can operate the vehicle again until the next time it does this, which may be one minute or a week. this is extremely dangerous as it is happening to me going down the highway a couple of times, at which time i have to pull over to the shoulder shut the vehicle off restart the vehicle and then try to pull away. twice i've almost been hit by semi tractor-trailers as the vehicle is coasting with no power. please help me, i am in fear for my life if i drive this vehicle.

My car is overheating after i bought it in june i cant turn my air on or anything i had stuff fixed and it still over heats i dont know what to do anymore

Car stalls sometimes when at complete stop,or at red lites.put it in park and starts back up as if nothing was wrong.

2005 dodge rt magnum: right after full-up the car start jerking like if it was trying to cut off, but then smoothed back to normal operation and then started again jerking like if the car was trying to cut off and trying to stay started. after about 10 miles the car running without a problem again. *tr

Just filled up vehicle, was leaving parking lot, and the car stalled. i lost all power steering and brakes, it was very scary. hard to restart, was afraid to drive it after that. stalled a couple times subsequently. *tr

This has happened twice in row while filling up the vehicle with gasoline. once the fill up is complete and the car is driven away, without warning, the car will stall and upon restarting will stall again unexpectedly and without warning. this is a serious safety concern which could lead to injury or death with a vehicle that will stall without notice and in traffic. *tr

After filling up with fuel the car has a tendency to stall at intersections or stop and turns. also will surge or loose power at highway speeds. usually only last for 0-15 miles or so and then goes away until next fill up. i believe this fault is due to a fuel tank issue, that when filled causes fuel to be shut off to engine. possibility for being rear ended are very great with this kind of problem. especially in high traffic areas.

Just after filling up at the gas station i started the vehicle put it in drive and started to proceed making it about 10 feet when the car stalled causing me to loose my power brakes and steering. i put the vehicle in park and restarted the vehicle. again i put the car in drive and started to proceed onto the road when my vehicle stalled again causing me to lose my power steering and cross over the yellow line into oncoming traffic...., luckily the car approaching me swerved to miss my vehicle which would have hit him head on. i then proceeded to the expressway thinking that maybe my injectors or something got clogged during the fill up so i thought that maybe if i were to get the vehicle going faster making more fuel go thru the fuel system and injectors that maybe whatever it was would unclog it., this was definitely a bad idea now even though the vehicle did accelerate up to 65 mpg it then decided to stall again causing me to loose my power brakes and power steering at a high rate of speed. i was able to get the vehicle to the side berm and restart it luckily not causing any accidents and nursed the vehicle home having it stall 6 more times. i got home and googled my problem to find that similar dodge and chrysler vehicles with the same years and motors and fuel system were having the same problems. these cars were the 2006 chargers and also the chrysler 300. it seems that there already seems to be an open case (# pe13-016) for this same problem. i called the dodge customer service and they said there is nothing they can do for my vehicle. i don't understand..., this is the same engine and fuel system as the other cars that were mentioned in the other case and i'm experiencing the same life threatening problems as those other vehicles in question. dodge knows there's a problem with the magnum r/t but is doing nothing to fix it. it's a shame. *tr

Purchased a used 2005 dodge magnum rt 5.7 (as is no warranty )on 11/15/14. on the drive home from the dealer, filled the car with fuel and the engine was hard to start and after it started ran for a short time and stalled. after several start stall cycles near the gas station got the car on the interstate and it lost power at speed and ran rough for short periods but did not stall. after aprox. 10 minutes of highway speed the car ran fine. two weeks later after fill up had the same stalling issues. having read these cars have history of these issues, i attempted to lower the fuel level by driving the car. the car started and about a 1/2 mile from the house stalled in a busy intersection. unable to restart the car, had to get towed home. the car started right up when it came off the tow truck. siphoned 5 gal from fuel tank & can't duplicate failure. no error indications during failures. *tr

We have a 2005 dodge magnum. the car would stall and shut off. we had the fuel pump replaced, instead of a recall, they changed it out with a lifetime warranty on the fuel pump. the problem is, the fuel pump hasn't worked, it's made my car worse. after waiting 5 months for a replacement, my car still doesn't work. i cannot drive the car, it's way too dangerous. i cannot believe that there wasn't a recall. i have read plenty of blogs online and there are others out there that this hasn't worked for either. re open the [xxx] case and get our cars fixed. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

When the gas tank is filled, the motor cuts out and stalls when driving, i have to keep the tank at half way to avoid this. my wife filled it up and it stalled on her while she was making a left hand turn in traffic. my child was in the car as well. it appears that this organization as well as chrysler was aware of this situation. i never received any notification and have been dealing with it for some time now. this is unacceptable as my whole family was at stake! please advise the next course of action. i am going to contact my local dealer as a start. attaching a news article on the situation..

Our 2005 dodge magnum rt hemi. the top radiator hose came completely off. dumping all the coolant. no smell of coolant, no warning on the dash. no codes in the system. we purchased the car new from the dealer .we have done all the scheduled maintenance. with only 63,000 miles. a very big disappointment. now the engine is seized. what is the caused the radiator hose to come off? a cooling tsb that we haven't notified about from the manufacture? we have never received a tsb from the manufacture or the local dealer where the purchased the vehicle. *tr

The car will stall every time after i fill up the gas. it 's very scary because i don't know when the car will die on me when i'm on the road and cars are behind me and just very afraid of someone is going to hit me from behind when my car dies on me suddenly. yesterday i went to fill up the tank ( not all the way full ), after i drove about 1 block, the car stalled. i was unable to turn the steering wheel and the brakes lost power, i ran off the road and down an embankment to a parking lot right front tire blew out as i hit the curb. some minor body damage. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge magnum. while driving at various speeds, the engine stalled without warning. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

Driving a car that stops running with no warning is very dangerous. i can not believe there is not a recall for this problem. *tr

Dropped drop valve seats

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge magnum. when the contact depressed the accelerator pedal, the vehicle stalled without warning. the eps and check engine warning indicators illuminated. the failure occurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 63,000.

Drove vehicle for about 30 minutes at 70f ambient. turned off vehicle and was away from it for about 10 minutes. restarted engine and it had little if any compression and made a bad metal banging sound when started. engine destroyed. dealership analysis revealed #3 intake valve seat fell out of head and destroyed #3 piston and cylinder requiring a new engine. vehicle has 91,000 miles. *tr

Filled tank and car stall while in the street! *tr

Running low on gas on january 15th i stopped at a gas station to refuel. i purchased 91 octane, placed the nozzle in the gas tank tube and began to refuel. once the pump clicked i replaced the gas nozzle, tightened the gas cap, started the car and drove off. less than two minutes later as i was approaching a stop light the engine shuts off and the oil light comes on. i quickly placed the gear in park, and attempted to restart the engine. after trying three times it finally turns over and i am able to drive off. one minute later it shuts off again as i am beginning to make a right turn into a driveway. same scenario as before. now every time i fill the tank to the point where the gas nozzle clicks the engine will shut off multiple times within the first 10 miles of driving. *tr
