Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2009 Dodge Journey

While driving the car started to sputter with the wipers going extremely fast then stopping and coming back on. door locks wouldn't work with key fob or door buttons, left low beam and right high beam wouldn't work, neither front turn signal would work, and temp gauge was off by 30 or 40 degrees. replaced the battery and none of the issues were fixed. had to take it to the closest mechanic it finally shut down completely on him while running tests. he called the local dodge service center and they told him it is a known electrical issue with journeys and durangos that they see all the time. he had to order a complete new integrated power module or fuse and circuit board for $860 part only. when he ordered the part out of chicago they only had 1 in stock as the guy stated they can't keep these in due to so many issues. car is running now but it is at the dealer service center because only they can reset the computer so everything works as normal. so, another $100+ for that as well. this needs to placed in a recall status before someone is seriously injured when their car shuts down while driving. i will be submitting a reimbursement request. *tr

I bought the car in october 2013 and within 2 months of having the car it started reading bad key. then it went to not starting so i went and had a new key made because all of the dealerships said it was the chip in the key was bad. the problem kept getting worse and sometimes it takes 25 minutes to start my car. so i finally took it to the dealer and had it put on the computer and they said it came back that the wireless control module was going bad. as i was reading on the internet multiple people has had or is having the exact same issue with the same part. the warranty does not cover this part. please help it is going to cost over 500.00 and if the other journeys r having this problem their is obviously an issue with this part. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that the driver's side rear-view mirror controls were malfunctioning. the contact mentioned that the he was unable to open or close the front windows and he could not lock or unlock the doors. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 10v658000 (electrical system) . the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 58,000 and the current mileage was 58,041.

The vehicle will not start intermittently. after several costly repairs the issue persists and the dealer and manufacturer deny knowledge of the problem or report that they cannot duplicate it. this seems disingenuous since all car sites i evaluated prior to this complaint list this same issue in abundance. i also have had to repair or replace the brake systems and am currently receiving warning lights for the esp and bas. the model year is poorly manufactured and the manufacturer is not taking responsibility. it has also been extremely dangerous (multiple incidence of stranding in the middle of winter without heat up to 2 hours with small children after which the car will miraculously start.) *tr

I just recently purchased my 2009 dodge journey in 2013 and immediately noticed that sometimes when i crank my car moments later it will just cut off. in order to get the car to crank up again you have to place the gear back in park and place your foot on the brake or it will not do anything. i contacted the dealership and was told that electrical and ignition problems are often difficult to diagnose. i'm still dealing with this problem and with two kids as passengers i'm starting to become very nervous about our safety. *tr

Dear sir or madam: i took my car into the dealership october 30, 2013 for a routine inspection and i was told by the service manager that whole car was wired wrong and my vehicle would not pass inspection. i was told that this issues was aslo affecting my brake & back up light. i was told that all my lights remained lit and appeared to stay on so it looked as if i was always breaking & backing up. needless to say i had to pay to get this issue fixed. i was looking for other recall issues because i received a notice about the ignition and notice there was an issue listed in regards to the wiring also. *tr

The car will not start. it comes with a faulty win module that has given many consumers grief. the car has left me stranded before due to the same issue. *tr

We have had many problems with this suv. elect. and mech. the engine will just shut off. several lights stay on. the dealer claims that they fixed the ignition switch a few mths. ago but they did not. every time it has been in the dealer to find what was wrong, they could not find anything. for example we the battery and less than a year later the battery is dead something electrical is draining the battery, the are many other problems with this car. *tr

The win module (wireless ignition node - part # 05026875) has been failing for several weeks and finally died completely. a new one has been ordered however it is on back order. the dealership actually has 5 other journeys waiting for the same part. this has also been an issue with other models for this part. it should be recalled due to its continued failure. *tr

On multiple occasions over the past few years my 2009 dodge journey will not start. there is no warning and it's become a gamble to drive my car and risk getting stranded somewhere. the vehicle will just click when i turn the keyfob and sounds like a dead battery, but all lights, radio, windows etc work fine. i have replaced the battery 3x as suggested by my local dodge dealership but they fail to identify why this is a recurring problem. i have also been waiting for almost a year for repairs related to recalls they are unable to correct since the parts are not available. my vehicle also has a history of the panic alarm going off when pushing the unlock button the keyfob (i've made sure the panic was not hit by accident - this is not operator error). once the panic alarm is sounding the keyfob becomes useless and won't work. i have to take the key out of the fob, unlock the door using the key, get in put keyfob in car turn car on, turn car back off, take keyfob out of ignition and click the unlock and/or panic buttons to get the alarm to shut off.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly shut off. after restarting the engine, the vehicle would operate normally. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000. the recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 14v373000 (electrical system) was received in february of 2015. after notifying the dealer on multiple occasions, the contact was informed that the parts needed to repair the vehicle were still not available and no estimated time for receiving the parts could be given. the failure mileage was 80,000.

Car all of a sudden shuts off while driving down the street at various speeds.35-70 steering wheel locks, you have very little control. very very dangerous has been hooked up to certified auto shop diagnostic computer all codes come back fine and they can not tell me why this happens. i already replaced crankshaft sensor to test if that was what was wrong with it. i am not going to go thru all these fixes for testing. dodge needs to do a recall on this problem. i called dodge direct to start a recall process. something needs to be done before a fatality happens! *tr

Car will intermittently not start. does not crank, just a clicking noise. will start maybe after trying for 5 minutes or half hour later. the computer does not recognize the car did not start according to dealership and mechanic. computer states operating as designed at this time. has been happening for several years sporadically before and after july 2013. cannot find reason. one time happened jumped the car with jumper cables and car started, had battery checked and it was fine. have a case # 23738720 with chrysler that was suppose to be sent to case management. never heard anything back from chrysler. a chrysler dealer had car for a day in july 2013 and car started every time all day long. could not find a problem with the car. this problem of not starting has probably happened at least a dozen times or more over the past few years. when car won't start just keep trying to start and eventually will start. sometimes only turning the key fob 3 times and it will start, sometimes turning the key fob 20 times or so and then will start. will not start with electric key start on key fob either. *tr

This complaint is in regard to recall r03/nhtsa 14v-373. i have had this car since 2013 and have had several recall notices and i have called my local dealership to schedule an appointment. they stated that the parts have not arrived and that until they did, it couldn't be repaired. this has been several months ago and no word has been received to schedule an appointment. now we have a new recall number about the same problem and they still haven't called. the vehicle has an intermittent problem with starting, so far, it eventually starts but i know it is just a matter of time before it leaves me or my wife stranded. i would hate to see what would happen if it switched from on to accessory and lost all power going down the road. i don't know who is at fault, the dealership or the manufacturer, but i feel this has not be handled in a reasonable time and is also a serious safety risk.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, there was a sudden loss of power and smoke was seen coming from the end of the vehicle. also, the contact stated that the low oil pressure and check engine warning lights were illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for a diagnostic test. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number : 08v247000 (electrical system). the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 84,000. the vin was not available. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced trouble starting. also, when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle jerked forward. the dealer repaired the vehicle per nhtsa campaign number: 14v373000 (electrical system), but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was invalid. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

The door control panel has failed, causing the driver to not have the ability to roll down the window, or lock and unlock the door. the airbag warning light has also come on, presumably indicating a defect in the door panel airbag sensor. i spoke with dodge regarding a safety recall for the same model year, but excluding my vin. they indicated that they would not cover the costs of the replacement of the faulty parts, but to "save my receipts" in case they decide to replace the parts in the future. now my family's daily driver has a faulty airbag, in addition to brakes that have to be replaced every 12-18k miles, and no help from dodge... thanks for the bailout americans... *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. the electrical components of the vehicle would power on but the engine would not start. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileage was 63,813. *tr

I have been having problems with my 2009 dodge journey. i also have problems trying to turn it on sometimes. i believe it might be the key or ignition. i bought a new battery thinking my old one was dead and it also started great for a few weeks and then it started doing it again. sometimes i turn the key around and it turns on fine and sometimes it does not. it is frustrating because sometimes it does it when i am away from home. i am also having problems with my front brakes or suspension because when i press on the brakes my steering wheel starts to shake. i had my brake pads and rotors checked and they are good. i just do not know what else to do because every trip to the mechanic costs money. there should be a recall on this vehicle! *tr

Put the key fob in the ignition, the car would not read the fob... tried both keys a few times and finally it started. everything else on the remote (lock, unlock, automatic start, panic) works... can use the automatic starter... as soon as the key is inserted, the car turns off... sometimes the display reads bad key and sometimes it doesn't react at all. after trying 10-30 times, it reads the key and the car starts. we took to the dealer and are being told that the entire wireless ignition module and keys need to be replaced, which s going to cost us over $600. i have done some research and am seeing that this is a common issue with our make and model, but am unable to find a recall directly related to our issue. in my opinion, this is not something that should just "break" out of nowhere on a car that is less than 5 years old. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that the engine failed to restart. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the battery and the starter, but the failure continued to occur. the contact stated that the recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 11v139000 (electrical system) was received in 2012. after contacting the dealer and the manufacturer on multiple occasions, the contact was informed that the parts needed to repair the vehicle were still not available and no estimated time for receiving the parts could be given. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 42,000.

Upon trying to start vehicle, no response. lights, radio, all work fine. after letting sit for 1 hour tried again this time after two attempts car started. i see from the web this is a common problem with dodge journeys from 2009 to 2013. please find resolution to this problem. *tr

My 09 dodge journey would fail to start on multiple occasions since owning the vehicle. it would make a clicking noise and take several tries to get it to start. the dash lights would also fail to come on while trying to start it. i would also have to wait 1 or more hours til i could get it to start. i have put in a new alternator and starter in it. finally on july 3rd 2014 it quit starting altogether, stranding me at work. i have also had a few incidents when the air bag light would come on, after a few minutes it would go back off. i have called a few dodge dealers in my area and they claim to be aware of the issue and said it was either my key or a win module. if they are aware of this issue why is there no recalls on it. i have done research on my vehicle only to find out i am among thousands of people with the same issue. *tr

My 2009 dodge journey has not regularly started for over a year off and on. when turning it to the starting position it will just click. it will never start in park and after much research i have found that putting it into neutral would start it which worked for a little over a year. now over a year later of putting it into neutral to start i am finding that its not working any longer. i have had this vehicle since 2012 so only a year after i bought this i started having the problems. in 2013 i replaced the starter and it didn't start 2 hours after replacing it. i have researched and have seen i am not the only one with this problem. i am a mother of 3 kids and can not be stranded someplace because chrysler doesn't want to take the responsibility to recall the problem and fix it!! this problem needs to be fixed for all of us experiencing it!! why hasn't it? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that while driving 10 mph, she lost control of the steering wheel and crashed into a curb and there was an explosion noise at the vehicle front end. the vehicle was taken to the mechanic where it was found that the transfer case had a hole which caused it to explode. the contact also wanted to add that the brakes and rotors had worn prematurely and the ignition switch made a clicking noise. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacture was not made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 81,000.

I own a 2009 dodge journey. and received recall notification l25 / nhtsa 14v-373 however the part to do the repair was not available. i think that the manufacturer had far exceeded a reasonable amount of time. i have experienced the failure in several incidents of car not starting, fortunately, there have been no wrecks yet. i've been on phone for over an hour trying to get someone to answer my call from chrysler customer service 1-800-853-1403. i want something done and i want it done now, before someone gets injured due to this lack of action from chrysler! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that the front passenger touched the radio and burned her hand. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. the technician stated that there was a short in the radio/dvd receiver and in the door control module. the technician stated that the door control module and the radio/dvd receiver would have to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vin was not available. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 54,000. *tr

Car will intermittently not start. all lights, windows, locks, radio etc still work, just "clicks" when you try to start it. this has happened too many times to count. typically it will start after a few tries. battery has been replaced- that is not the problem. contacted dodge and they stated "no recall for my vin - take to a local dodge dealer to have it inspected." we are a military family and i am a mother of 3 children- it is not safe or reliable when my vehicle doesn't start repeatedly. it is obvious dodge knows that this is a problem, they need to take responsibility for their faulty vehicles and replace what is wrong. *tr

I went out to start the car to go to work and the engine would not turn over when i attempted to start it. i tried for several minutes to start the car and it would not start, there would just be a clicking sound. i even tried to jump start it and that didn't work. so after reading posts online from other owners i had my wife buy a battery and then after some trying it did. start. i have since this first incident experienced this issue making it a total of three times within three weeks. i would go out to start the car and it would just click without starting. i also found this on another site from someone who had the same issue but instead of me the consumer spending my own money to see if this is the problem, dodge should be doing a recall on this vehicle. (we had an issue with our journey not starting. all of the dash lights would come on but it wouldn't turn over. the dealership started by re-programming the key fob and then replaced the starter. both had no affect on the problem and the car continued to not turn over at the most inconvenient time. the day before leaving on vacation, it happened again. the dealership provided us with a rental and they kept the car to try and figure out the problem. i had provided them with a list of complaints listed here which helped them to narrow down the issue. it turns out that it was the sensor that tells the car that it's in park that wasn't working. although the car is in park, the sensor wasn't sending the right message and was preventing it from starting. it took a month before we got the car back but we've been running it now for nearly two months and not one instance has occurred. if you are experiencing this issue, have the dealership replace this sensor. it worked for me). *tr

Car would not start, everything worked far as radio, heater fan, wipers etc. but would not even turn over. called a tow truck, had car towed to local mech, car started after being removed from tow truck. mech checked out electrical system, could not find a problem. *tr
