Tried to start car just clicks won't turn over. lights, radio everything turns on. this has happened several times. sometimes if you wait it will start, sometimes if you move the gear shifter around it will start. sometimes my battery light comes on then turns off after starting again. same for my other indicator lights. also my back seat doors will lock from the outside and you cant get them to unlock with the buttons or the key fob. only by climbing in the backseat to unlock them. starting problems seem worse after car sits for longer period or during colder weather. this is a very common problem with these vehicles. *tr

Dash goes dark, car dies with no warning. loss of steering. 1st time happened leaving parking lot onto busy roadway. cars directly behind able to swerve around me. able to start up immediately. occurs randomly without warning. dealer replaced sparkplugs 5/2013. still occurs. again randomly and very dangerous. car died while driving 8/5/2014 on dirt road at approx. 30 mph. took back to dealer they were unable to diagnose. called dodge to report problem and inquire any recall. i was told does not apply to my vin#. extremely dangerous to die without notice while driving. occurrence sometimes can be days apart or months apart. continues to happen randomly without any notice, car died while driving on highways 6/10/14 and 7/22/14. once again contacted dodge. i was told there is potential recall for ignition on dodge journey manufactured at same time as mine, but they have not expanded recall yet. took back to dealer 7/24/14-7/26/14 unable to diagnose(no time). suggested i bring back. brought back to dealer 8/11/14-8/14/14. still unable to diagnose. dodge customer service tells me if happens more often to bring back. every occurrence is potential hazard. *tr

Vehicle fails to start or "shuts" down while running. dealer charged me approximately $1000.00 to repair and the repair was ineffective (prior to receiving recall notice) dealer is now informing me that the repair parts detailed in the recall are in "short supply" or "backordered" and they are expecting them not to be available for one year. *tr

The 2009 dodge journey has many problems and complaints! mine is like many others first the brake system locked up and cost $300 to repair and now the care will not start or starts when it wants to. i took it to the dealer and they now say it is the key switch (electrical) and will now be a $400 bill out of my pocket. no coverage warranty is up, purchased used and was not told that their was a recall on the care when we purchased it. dodge knows this car has problems but like normal they will not recall the car and fix their problems, they will however allow the care to be on the road and service them over and over because it makes them money. the claims of dodge is false, this car is not a quality car and many owners have reported the many problems. *tr

While in the drive through car turned off and i couldn't stop and scraped the driverside fender on a yellow barrier pole. i thought it was a fluke (a wtf moment) so i never worried about it again. it still cuts off every now and again but i am usually parked or moving slowly. i did get pulled over one time when the car cut off and to stop i had to put it in park so i wouldn't run a stopsighn onto hwy 99. (he let me go) went for the recall on the ignition sat for over an hour only to be told they dont have the replacement part or know when they will have it. on many occasions i am unable to get the car to start. when this happens i have to place the car in neutral and try again. the car will start once placed in neutral. whenever there is a thunderstorm the driverside rear door will fill up with water from the outside. if i slam the door hard the water will flow out of the bottom. front brakes grind and squeek no matter if the pads are new or have been on for a while. (i tried new rotors to) wiring recall was fixed only to do the samething as before months later. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that the vehicle did not start. there were no prior warnings and no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and inspected. they determined that the wing module in the ignition needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, however no assistance was provied. the failure and current mileages were 99,659.

Since replacing the win in oct. 2010, fob unlock button sets off alarm instead. in the past six months the car has randomly stalled immediately upon starting. in these same six months, the car has stalled randomlly while driving-- various speeds and road conditions. it is scary to drive a car that loses all power for no apparent reason! win module was replaced 6/21/2012-- second replacement in 1-1/2 years. i wonder if ts is a problem with the overall car wiring or the win modules. *tt

Today after a short trip, the engine refused to start. it clicked, but nothing. everything else worked. doors locked and unlocked, windows opened and closed, but as for the starter, nothing. this is the 3rd time the car has refused to start first time. both other times were less than a year ago. the dealer has not yet been contacted, so i don't know what it will do. a federal complaint will be filed and a link to this site will be provided. 45 or 46 similar complaints are far too many for this not to receive serious attention. the following link shows 45 other similar complaints. http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/journey/2009/electrical/engine_wont_turn_over.shtml.m *tr

Suddenly the gauges all went to zero, including the gas. the headlights came on. the wipers all came o. the radio stopped working. all of the blinkers make noise. this occurs if the car is stopped or if the car is in motion. *tr

I purchased a 2009 dodge journey new in 2008. for the most part did not have any problems with the vehicle until may of 2012. beginning in may 2012, the car will intermittently not start. when attempting to start the car all i hear is a "click." my husband is a mechanic and has checked all connections, as well as replaced the relays. the dealership is unable to duplicate the problem. this has occurred at least 12 times in approx. 2 months. it is getting progressively worse with no solution available. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while driving approximately 30 mph, the engine stalled without warning. the vehicle restarted and resumed normal operation. the failure recurred numerous times. the contact was made aware of nhtsa campaign number: 14v373000 (air bags, electrical system) however, the part needed was unavailable to perform the repair. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 5,600. updated. 6/9/15 *ta the consumer stated he received are recall 10 months ago. however, the parts were not available. updated 07/02/15*jb

Engine fails to start. when i turn on the key nothing happens. after several turn of the keys finally there is ignition. last night as my wife was driving home the car dies out and she lost hydralics, so the brakes didn't work and she is lucky that she did not crash and kill herself or someone else. i have had the car in for calliper and brake replacement for both the front 22,000 miles and rear 28,000. the ignition starting problem 3 times. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that the battery, alternator and the starter failed. the battery needed to be recharged approximately three times per week. the contact stated that if the vehicle would sit an hour after the recharge and not started, the failure would recur. the battery was only six months old. the dealer was notified of the failure who advised that the power distribution center would need replacing, but the parts needed for the repair were on back order. the manufacturer was notified and a complaint was filed. the failure mileage was 80,000.

Electrical system failure due to wiring harness melting, radiator cracked because bracket for ac is connected too tight when car is manufactured, battery died prematurely because of failed wires, rotors warped causing car to shake violently when braking. all these problems and others for a car with only 60,000 miles. have spent over $2000 to date in repairs that numerous people have had related to this vehicle. based on online complaints and talking to mechanics who have worked on this car no one can believe that the correct electrical recall has taken place. there have been electrical recalls on vehicle, but not for most common failure. no one understands why brake issue has not been recalled and no one understands why the radiators keep failing without a recall. will it take a serious crash? safety of the consumer is at risk. you pay $20,000 for a car and think it will last awhile. this car has major problems that are consistent from buyer to buyer. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that the vehicle would not start. the failure was experienced several times. the vehicle was towed to the dealer twice for the failure. the wind module was replaced once but the failure was not corrected. the dealer recently placed the wind module wires and the engine started but the contact believed that the failure could recur. the failure mileage was 47,700 and the current mileage was 47,900.

Vehicle will not start or crank. electrical systems work when door is open, close the door nothing works. battery has plenty of juice doesn't need jumped. dash reads "badkey" for a milli second when you insert key fob. wait an hour or so and the car will start up with no problems. turn the car off and it will not start again. dealership wants to replace win module as a "starting point" since their computers can't get code from the car. *js

Was getting gas. shut the car off. went to restart and nothing. sits an hour or so then starts. no recall, im not the only one. seems like oh well. thanks for listening. *tr

We bought this car used in 2011. we had an inspection done of the brakes by the dealership we bought from and were informed the brakes were in good shape. we have taken the vehicle to the local dodge dealership for regular preventive maintenance and they have told us the brakes are in good shape also. the last visit they told us the front brakes were completely gone. this after just 4000 miles. the electrical system is also failing. the vehicle at times just won't start or other times will shut done. we feel this vehicle is an accident waiting to happen and feel we have a lemon with no course of action and still 5years of payments.

I like so many others are having an issue with my vehicle. at times the vehicle does not want to start. i have had it towed 2 times to the dealer and of course once they get the vehicle there it starts. they then tell me that there is nothing that they can do for me. i called chrysler and they said they were unaware of the problem which seems so funny to me cause every where i read it is something about the vehicle intermittently not starting. this is my first and last chrysler product i will ever own. how many complaints do you need before they are going to do something? *js

The car was scanned several times. it has electrical defects and shows up 17 codes, must of them active. brakes lights and control panel don't works. when we open only the second row door, lights don't work, but if you open any front door then we have lights. also, we have problems with the entertainment center. it was changed by the dealer a couple of times but still showing the same problem. all the dashboard lights was changed by the dealer but until now we still having the same problem, for example, gas meter goes on and off, mph meter and tachometer goes down and up while the car is moving on the road. a couple of times we were unable to turn on the car after a lot of tries. car dealer changed battery of the car by june/2012. when this happen while driving the car i feel so insecure cause i have a 4 year old child and i afraid something bad happen to my child and me. its so weird seen all the dashboard lights going on and off while driving, its like the car turned crazy. *tr

Our electronic throttle control (etc) came on last friday evening. we cycled the key and the etc sensor shut off. however, further searches showed that this problem could be caused by cold weather. no recalls are noted on nhtsa's website. the dodge journey handbook is very vague on what action should be taken if the etc sensor appears for a short time but then disappears after key cycling is complete. *tr

Vehicle would not start. all lights worked, but nothing else. it could not be taken out of park. tow truck driver tried to jump start, but battery was good. he had to drag the fwd vehicle into a position where he could tow it from the front. dealer said cause was the win module (over $300 and it is out of warranty). there could be more issues but they will not know until part arrives. there appear to be many issues with this part on this and other dodge vehicles, but no recognition of a safety issue. *tr

We purchased this vehicle 2/2011 with 47,000 miles and recently in 9/2011 at our regular oil change we were told the left-front tie rod was going to need replaced. now the steering is loose, and its loud in the front end while driving over bumps. we don't feel like we should be replacing tie-rod ends this soon on this vehicle that is in excellent shape otherwise. i know there is a dodge ram recall campaign#10v65800 for the same thing. could this be something also related to the 2009 dodge journey? *tr

2009 dodge journey sxt. in the year i have owned it, i have replaced brakes twice, as rite now i am replacing them cause they started squeaking a week ago and today they locked up. also replacing one of the calipers. any time i take a hard left turn, there is a loud grinding noise. i have replaced the tires already, and have had to replace the rear 2 again recently. any time i go to brake when going over 40 mph, the steering wheel shakes uncontrollably. i have also received a recall from a local dealership for a wiring harness in drivers side. when i went in to dealership, they put it on order and said they would call when it came in, but never did. that was 6 months ago. *tr
