Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC problems on 2006 Dodge Charger

Brakes squeal after warming up under light to moderate braking. *nm

I purchased a 2006 dodge charger in august of 2006. the first couple thousand miles i would hear my front brakes grinding, thinking it would go away i kept driving the vehicle. the grinding noise from my brakes continued to get worse so i took my vehicle to the dealership with 8000 miles on it. the dodge dealership told me the noise was normal but they would lube and clean the pads. that didn't help at all so i took my vehicle back to the dealership a week later in which they still told me the grinding noise is normal and there are no safety problems with the brakes. i know have under 10,000 miles on my charger and the grinding noise is getting worse. i'm very concerned about my families safety in the vehicle ,i know the noise is not normal and i believe the dealership knows that too. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while driving between 2-60 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle would not stop. the contact normally places the vehicle in park or applies the emergency brake. all of the warning indicator lights would illuminate, except the check engine light. the dealer replaced the wheel sensor, but the failure continued. the failure mileage was 8,372 and current mileage was 13,000.

Brakes squeal when pressure is first applied to pedal. off and on since i bought the car last year. called dealership and was told that this was common and that some cars do this all the time, it's normal. *tr

My brakes have been squeaking severely since the purchase of my vehicle. i brought my car in to the service department where i bought it at, which is also my place of employment and they said it was normal and not to worry. this was almost 2000 miles ago and the car still continues to squeak. i am part of a online forum for chargers (www.chargerforums.com) and there are countless others with the same problem. *nm

The failure with my vehicle is that the brakes squeal/screech every time i brake between 0-50 miles per hour. my car only has 11,000 miles and it is not supposed to be doing this. this is ruining my brake rotor. i took it to the dealer twice and both of the times they said it could not be duplicated. that was no help at all because i still have the problem. *jb

2006 dodge charger daytona top banana developed grooves in brake rotors. at 5600 miles there is severe rotor grooving that resulted in severe brake fade that resulted in the car striking a curb since the brakes failed. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated while entering traffic at 35 mph, the brake pedal was applied and the vehicle did not slow down. the vehicle was downshifted to second, and then first gear. at the next exit, the vehicle came to a stop on an incline. the contact exited the vehicle and noticed flames coming out of the brake well on the front passenger side. the vehicle was coasted into an independent repair shop, who determined the abs failed and all four brakes were white hot. the vehicle was towed to the dealership, but no report was given.

Severe grooving of the braking discs. potential failure eminent. *jb

Brakes fade rapidly and braking power is decreased and becomes dangerous even at low speeds. *nm

Brakes squeak at low speeds. *jb

Continued break squeaking caused by the glazing of the break pads due to poor product manufacturing. *nm

I've had a 2006 charger rt for less than a year. for a couple of months the brakes began squealing and feeling like there grinding at times when i stop. each time i visited the dealership i was told that the noise was normal because the brakes and brake pads were metallic. i recently took a trip up in the mountains, coming down i couldn't even use the brakes because the car began shaking and pulsating rapidly i could barely hold onto the steering wheel, luckily there weren't any other cars around. after checking out this website and charger forums i'm definitely going to demand that my rotors be checked and fixed. *nm

My brakes on my dodge charger se with the 3.5 l v6 have been squealing. it first started one day when i was driving and slowing down to a complete stop at a intersection. as i getting very close the intersection i heard a squealing like a school bus, so naturally i assumed it was a older vehicle with bad brakes. i kept driving residential neighborhoods with no other cars present and again when i came to stop at a stop sign the squeal was present. i only seemed to get the squeal when slowing to a stop. also the brakes sometimes make a moaning sound especially when you come to slow down. good example is if you are backing into a parking space and press the gas too much, you naturally press the brake to stop and then will ease off of it. i get the moaning sound going in reverse motion and forward motion. i let me dealer know who said that my vehicle was past 12,000 and that i would simply have to deal with it. this makes no sense for a new car to be doing this. *jb

Front brakes are requiring a resurface for the second time in 11,000 miles. dealership will only cover brakes for 12,000 miles. this seems like a problem that should not happen to a performance vehicle. i have had no issues like this on any other vehicle. *nm

I am concerned about the quality and safety of the brakes on my 2006 dodge charger r/t. every time i brake, i hear a loud squealing noise. my car has 10,000 miles on it. i addressed this problem to the dealership where i get my car serviced and they said it was normal for this type of brake pad. i have never owned a vehicle that has made this awful noise and i do not see how it can be normal. i am concerned that this condition will worsen and my braking system will deteriorate. *nm

I purchased a new dodge charger r/t + rt on 7/29/06 from westoaks dodge in thousand oaks, ca. starting at around 1500 miles, i noticed a squealing sound from what sounds like the front passenger wheel. this sound seems to happen on a consistent basis when braking lightly. i waited to see if the problem would go away. the problem persisted and so i brought it into westoaks dodge service department on 10/16/06. after westoaks inspected, they returned the vehicle to me in the same state and told me that the brake noise is normal and they would not service the car unless daimler chrysler approved. i then submitted my problem to dodge customer support at http://www.dodge.com on 10/17/06 and received the following reply on 10/24/06 (paraphrased): unfortunately, given the many variables involved, we are unable to diagnose your vehicle's problem via email. we recommend contacting your authorized daimlerchrysler dealership to arrange an appointment for proper diagnosis and repair. if you have been working with an authorized dealership but the problem is not yet resolved, seeking a second opinion from a different dealer may be a viable option. senior staff representative chrysler group customer assistance center reference number: 15560270 email case number: 1546160 basically, to me this sounds like another exercise in futility and to waste time and money bringing my car in to another dealer to hear the same thing. my conversation with the other dealer in my area has not added to my confidence. as a business owner myself, i know that i must stand behind my products or i will not be successful. consumers are much too sophisticated to be told that a problem is "normal" when they can find many comparable products without this problem. if i told my customers this i would not be successful for very long. please help me in resolving this matter. *nm

The problem started when i bought it brand new and kept bringing back to the dealer. failure to find problem. notice a lot of other customers having the same problem. brought car to an expert and found the suspension which includes shocks, struts, brakes etc. were not the right part for this model. expert changed necessary parts and have not had a problem there after. expert did research and dealer wanted to know what he did to fix it and he would not comply. they should do the research and fix the problem. i hope everyone files a complaint and i would tell dodge they fix it or i will file a defect lawsuit for complete refund of a $42,000 car plus inconvenience. *tr

2006 dodge charger r/t front brake issue, at 16,000 miles rotors out of round, pads squeak. dealer cut rotors and charged 100.00 brakes still squeaking at 19.000 miles suspect a bad compound mix in brake pads, many fellow charger owners experiencing same problem and dodge will not satisfy. *jb

I bought a new '06 dodge charger r/t a couple months ago. car has only 3,000 miles and brakes are squealing bad, and grooves in the rotors. this is ridiculous. i know a lot of people are having the same problem. *nm

1. in october only 5 months after buying my '06 charger i noticed a lot of noice coming from the brakes. 2. in november i took it in to the dealer and they said everything was fine that it mainly should happen when it gets colder. 3. i took it in last week in march and told them that it has been 75 degrees and up and that they still make noice at any speed. they said that there is nothing wrong with my brakes. after looking at other similar cases i am now assured that this is a big problem with other vehicles like mine and that they need to fixed!!

Consistent brake squealing and minor vibrating when stopping. *nm

Brake squealing!!! i have a 2006 dodge charger daytona r/t and i only have about 9k miles on it. but about a month ago i notice a squealing on my brakes. everytime i coming out of my drive way, and after a stop at the light, etc.... seems to happen also, about a 40 mph. so, i took to the dealer because is still under warranty. and they said that is caused by a panic braking. i don't drive this car the much and i don't brake hard. but you would it think that a 40k + car would have a better brake system on it, because doesn't matter how you brake is a problem. i really don't feel safe braking. here's what it says on the receipt :cause: rotors out of specs. road tested and inspected. trued surface of all 4 rotors, cleaned. *nm

I bought a dodge charger in june 2006 and started having problems with the brakes in september. it started as a vibration which nobody could identify. i paid to have the tires balanced because dodge would not cover it. that was not the problem. i am now sitting at 16,000 miles and warped rotors which they will not do anything about because they say i am over the 12,000 mile brake warranty. i will have to pay for the rotors myself. as a comparison i also have a chevy tahoe. i put the first set of rotors on that at 80,000 miles. this is a major problem that dodge will not acknowledge and must be addressed! thank you *tr

Front brake squealing @ less than 10k miles. returned to dealer, rotors found to be warped and grooved. dealer turned rotors. *nm

Squeaky brakes on my 06 dodge charger since i had 9,000 miles on the car. nobody will do anything (service dept.'s and chrysler-daimler) saying it's not an issue yet they see fit to upgrade to slotted brakes on all the 07 models. *jb

Brake system warping on police package dodge charger. *nm

2006 dodge charger se brakes squealing on turns and during stops. rotors showing no macroscopic signs of wear. several owners with same model as well as upgraded models, have noticed similar situations at extremely low miles. brake return spring is also making noise when peddle is depressed and returns to original position. *nm

Brake rotors on my charger daytone keep warping others are having the same problem but dodge is doing nothing about it started happening at 7k still ongoing 6th trip to dealer. *nm

Police package vehicle. the brakes have been squealing since the car had approximately 200 miles on the odometer. current odometer reading is 2200. *nm

Brake caliper makes noises when car is driving slow. *nm

Front rotor warping and front rotor premature deterioration. i took my 2006 dodge charger daytona in at 600 miles with premature rotor gouging. i was told by keene dodge in jarrestsville md that this was normal. i believed and told them no way it was a normal problem with a vehicle. they took the car back to their service area. after a short visit to the service area i was told by the service writer that nothing was wrong with it. i was not happy, but what is one to do in a situation where one is blown off. i drove the car the way it was and kind of ignored the problem. well it got worse as the miles went by until while braking the car had shaking at highway braking along with pulsating. i took the car to cook motorcars of aberdeen md and at first was told this was a normal situation. i again objected. i made an appointment. my car now had 7900 miles on it. i dropped the car off while i was at work and called around 1pm and was told that the rotors were indeed warped. the service writer told me that they tried to turn the rotors and when they did there was not enough metal left for safe braking. they replaced the rotors, with the same kind that was on the vehicle when i purchased it. i belong to the dodge charger forums and there are 100's of charger owners having the same problems and are being told this is normal. here is a link to my thread on the forums and you can read all the complaints that i have gotten. this needs to be addressed because there are dodge charger owners who are paying for this apparent defect on our cars. http://www.chargerforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23835 i want the public to know about this complaint as chrysler needs to address this and address this now. *nm

My brakes on my 2006 dodge charger have been defective for some time, warped rotors, screeching sound when brakes are applied. if no help is found here im going take this matter to the bbb. *ak

I was approaching a stop light and applied my brakes to stop. i felt my brakes slipping as if they were pressing fully to the floor not stopping my vehicle. in result i rear ended another vehicle and that chain reacted hitting another vehicle. i took my vehicle to a brake specialist and they diagnosed the problem being the brakes needed replaced and 2 rotors needed resurfaced. my vehicle is a 2006 model. i've made the dealer aware of what happened and they said the problem will be fixed upon their diagnosis as well. *nm

Brakes are shuttering when coming to a stop. brake rotors and pads where getting worn down and squealing before the one year/12k miles and dealer would not fix.*ak

Squeaking brakes at slow speeds, possible rotor grooves. *nm

After purchasing my 2006 dodge charger in april of 2006 i immediately had a problem with a squeaking from the front brakes. when taking the car in for service i was repeatedly told it was brake dust and it would go away when washing. the noise has never gone away and has continued to get worse now that i have over 20,000 miles on them. *jb

Noisy brakes that dealership has not replaced or fixed. *ak

Ever since i have bought my 2006 dodge charger sxt i have had a strong vibration in my breaks, it shakes my steering wheel, and whole car, i have taken it to the dealer several times only to be told that it was normal for new cars to break like that, well on my last service the people told me that my rotors are warped and thati am going to need to replace them soon, i dont have the breaking power than i feel is safe. i am a united states army soldier stationed in germany so my options are slightly limited as to what to do. can you please help me? my vin number is as follows [xxx] please help me out with this, i have talked to other charger owners and they said that their breaks are doing the same thing. i greatly look forward to your response! thank you for your time and help... I own a 2006 dodge charger r/t that has a recurring brake problem. there is a noticeably loud sound coming from at least 2 and possibly all 4 wheel wells. when the parking brake is engaged i have intermittent slippage before the car settles. and finally, when attempting to brake i receive occasional shuddering in the car. i have attempted to take the car into three separate dodge dealerships in the dallas texas area on seven different occasions and on six of those trips was informed nothing was wrong with the brakes. on my fifth service trip a brake job was performed, but has had no effect in fixing the problem. on the subsequent two trips i was again told that nothing could be found wrong with the brakes and that the noise was normal. this problem began at the 11,000 mile mark and has been deteriorating since then (currently at 27,000 miles). if nothing is done soon, i feel that i will need to unnecessarily and unjustly purchase an entirely new brake system for my car to ensure my driving safety. *ak

Squeaky brakes, transmission not shifting properly. *jb

I was driving my car and the brakes have had a slight noise to them. not so much a squeak. now today while driving i pushed my brakes pedal down and it pushed back. i asked a mechanic at my job. i work for fedex and he told me that the rotors needed to be turned. *jb

Front driver's side brakes squeal and drag. *tr

Dt: the consumer states while driving at 40 mph the abs failed to activate. the vehicle skidded off the road and into several trees. upon impact, the frontal and side/curtain airbags failed to deploy. the contact felt it was a traction control problem. the abs failed once before. there have been no repairs made at this time. *ak updated 12/07/05. *jb

I have taken my car to the dealership 5 times to have issues fixed. each time i got the car back, it was worse. i had 13 issues originally with the car. i ended up suing, and got a very small settlement- dodge refused to cooperate. i still have each and every problem, and do not know what else to do. my car dies while in reverse, the brakes malfunction constantly, the window panel remains broken due to their inept work, the radio cuts off, the dash lights die @ night, etc. i would truly appreciate it if someone could actually help me. i do not know what else to do. i love my car dearly, but something needs to be done. the date i put as date of incident is when this all started. *tr

Disk brake noise. i have had this car since it was new, and have had frequent problems with the brakes, mostly inb the front axel. the dealer replaced the front rotors and pads at least 2 times i believe, and recently a few months ago, i changed the front pads again to try to get rid of the squealing noise. i have purchased oem brakes and rotors from the dealer, and last time i replaced them, i used a brand from a local auto parts store. it seems that i the brakes stay quiet for a little while after they have been cleaned and services, but soon start returning to making a horrible squealing noise anytime the brakes are used. after several trips for this at two different dealers, and reading up on the manufactures web forums, it looks like this has been happening to a lot more people than just me. i feel there must be a design or manufacturing issue that needs to be addressed to correct this type of chronic problem. *tr
