'05 dodge caravan auto door lock failures. sometimes minutes, sometimes days. fuse must be pulled. never know when it will cease working. worried if i carry children in my van. is there a recall? *tr

1. electric door locks stopped working suddenly from both the key control pad and interior switches. the sliding side door also did not operate 2. it is persistent since it has happened. the lights blink so you think there is no problem. as a result you have to use the key and manually open or lock all the doors. safety concerns with a minivan designed to haul around families, security concerns with theft/vandalism and entering the vehicle, securing property while leaving. pulled the iod fuse and replaced after 1 minute as described in the below link. it seems like a common problem with over 150 documented complaints (under 2 separate titles) http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/caravan/2005/electrical/power_door_locks_quit_working.shtml. i plan to bring it to a dodge the dealer. *tr

I have a 2005 dodge caravan sxt. power locks quit working. can not unlock with remote key, must use key in lock to open. i was told to disconnect the battery and the iod fuse for ten minutes and reconnect. locks work awhile then quit. i was told that dodge had a soft ware fix but, it would cost about one hundred dollars. i don't think it is right to charge for problem they created and seem to know about it. if there was an emergency and you needed to access the van quickly it would be impossible to do it quickly if you have to fumble with the key. also you couldn't lock it quick enough from the inside. i think there should be a recall on this problem. i noticed on the internet a number of people are fighting this problem as well. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge caravan. while attempting to unlock the doors in the vehicle, the contact noticed that neither the keyless entry or the manual door locks failed to unlock the doors. the dealer stated that the vehicle needed a software update. the vehicle was not repaired. there were no prior warnings. the current and failure mileages were 91000.

My power door locks have failed to work on my 2005 dodge caravan sxt. i have no idea why they stopped but i immediately did a search on the net and found a # of other caravan owners with same probelm. apparently you can fix it by removing the fuse and the negative terminal from the battery. that fix did not work for me so it's off top the dealer i guess. do the right thing and issue a recall. it's obvious there is a problem. do a search on the internet. *tr

Power door locks stopped working on my 2005 dodge caravan sxt. dealer claims no liability nor does dodge. this is a safety issue as the vehicle's back door/lift gate will not lock at all. *tr

Manual sliding doors on both sides do not work. this must be a defect. i was told the problem is with the hinges and rollers. the auto repair shop wants to charge $615.00 to fix each door!! *tr

Problem: the door locks on my 2005 dodge caravan quit working with both interior and remote controls. data: the web site below is one of several sites that address this problem. with over 250 entries at this one web site describing a problem identical to mine, it is my opinion that the problem with dodge door locks is not an isolated problem, but a systemic problem caused by a design fault. i also believe that this problem is a safety issue because the operator looses control of the door locks. http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/dodge-grand_caravan/power_locks_will_not_lock_or_unlock. *tr

Driver's side power sliding door opens six to eight inches and stops. *tr

Automatic door locks stop working. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge caravan. the contact stated while driving at speeds of 20 mph, the doors would not lock automatically. when using the key to manually open the doors, the security alarm would engage. when locking the doors with the keyless entry remote, the alarm system would set but the doors would not lock. the dealer attempted a memory re-flash and corrected the failure for two days. in addition, the dealer stated that the body control module may need to be replaced. the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 99,800.

When tryin to unlock my power locks they would not work. i then tried the remote key lock/unlock. this also did not work. to exit the vehicle i had to manually unlock the doors. i found the 20 a fuse for the door locks and removed it, replaced it, then the power locks worked for just a couple days. i have to repeat this process every week to get my power locks to work properly. *tr

Power locks stop working both by remote keychain and on doors, requiring doors to be manually locked and unlocked, and leaving the rear hatch door unlockable manually and occupants and property vulnerable. this has been an ongoing problem for about 2 years now, and only corrects when the 20 amp fuse is pulled and reinserted. this "correction" is progressively lasting less time, and has probably occurred 3 dozen times over the past 2 years. "corrections" last less than a day now, and with 2 young children in my car, this is a safety issue. *tr

Door locks fail to engage and key fob will not function. *tr

2005 dodge caravan. power door locks do not work. have to pull a 20 amp iod fuse to reset the system. only way to unlock doors is from driver door, then crawl throughout van to manually unlock doors. this is a safety problem for my children or if immediate access to vehicle is required. *tr

Hi i already have a complaint in your system the # is 10332386 . the problem is the doors will not open or lock when i press the remote. this has been going on since may. it stopped and came back again since the date of my first complaint. it has happen at least 5 times including today that i am having the same problem. the plugs from the battery have to be removed and put on again and then it works. i have no clue how long this process will work before i have to either invest in a new sensor to solve the problem. i was hoping you could help me find out if i am covered for this either in a recall or warranty. it started with my car mileage at 49,000 and now i'm up to 52,000 and it's still happening. can you please let me know if the dealer will tell you some thing different as you are the nhtsa? i'm sure they will tell us the customer any thing to get us in to spend over $500.00 to get it fix. when it may really be a fault of the dealer or maybe the warranty will cover it. the dodge caravan is a 2005 and it runs really well so far thank god. it's just this issue that is really becoming a pain. please let me know if you can advise me on my next steps to take. thank you and have a happy new year. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge caravan. the contact stated that the sensor for the door locks did not function properly and doors would suddenly lock on their own. the contact had to unlock the doors manually. when the failure occurred and someone approached the vehicle, the panic alarm would begin to sound. the contact called the manufacturer who stated that repairs would have to be performed at her expense. the failure mileage was approximately 49,000. the current mileage was approximately 49,500. updated 11/19/10. *lj the consumer stated the connection from the battery were removed several times. finally, after three times the sensors started to work again. the consumer stated there have been no problems since. updated 12/01/10

Power door locks stopped working. i was told by the dodge dealer it would cost $76 to diagnose the problem. he said it is common and would either be the switch or fuse. *tr

Automatic locks stop working on dodge 2005 caravans. after opening the hood and removing the fuse and reinserting it several times it starts to work. this happens every couple of days. it has happened to thousands of other drivers/owners. the company is aware of it but will do nothing to fix the problem. *tr

The electronic door locks on 2005 dodge caravan quit working about a year ago. dodge says there is no recall and they can replace the part for $350 - $375. there are many many people with the same 2005 model caravan with the same problem. i can remove a 20amp fuse for 20 seconds and it will reboot the system and it work again for anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks. i paid for an electronic door lock and it should work. my family to avoid someone jumping into the car at a stop sign or stop light must manually lock the doors that we paid to have done electronically. there is a malfunctioning part and it needs to be recalled and replaced. *tr

Driver side door does not open or shut completely. it only opens 6 to 8 inches and closes until about 6 to 8 inches. the latching mechanism sometime does not work at all or repeatedly tries to auto latch itself. this occurs every time we try to use the auto door feature. it appears that some wires have been severed, but the cost to repair at dealership is outrageous. i am afraid that the door will not properly close, leading to injury or death of my passengers. you can view many websites that have lots of people complaining about his exact same thing: http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/dodge-grand_caravan/2005_dodge_gc_sliding_door_problem. *tr

My 2005 dodge caravan sxt power door locks fail to lock or unlock with the remote or door switch. the manual door lock is the only way to lock or unlock the doors. with there only being one key hole, this is a huge inconvenience and safety factor. what if you have several children and are trying to get everyone in the van and can only open the driver's door? this could pose a potentially dangerous situation as you're trying to get everyone inside the van, one of the kids could wander away, possibly into traffic. i'm sure you have heard all of this before because every 2005 caravan owner i have talked to has this problem and more. *tr

Power door locks fail to work have to pull fuse to reset system only 1 door lock that has a key very dangerous to get family into vehicle. *cn

I have a 05 dodge caravan. power locks just quit. looked on website and saw that this is a common problem with this vehicle. there were suggestions of a quick fix but not a permanent one. if this is a common problem seems that there should be a recall to fix it. *tr

My wife, 2 young children, and i went out to spend the afternoon running errands. when we left our home, the door locks worked with the keyless entry system as well as with the switches inside the car. after making our second stop of the afternoon, my wife noticed that the door locks were no longer functioning. they failed to work via key chain, switch, or speedometer override (when car reaches 20 mph). compounding the issue, the caravan only has one outside door lock, which means the car can only be manually unlocked at the driver side door. the remaining doors must be unlocked from the inside. this means that someone must climb throughout the vehicle's interior to let other passengers in. as i mentioned earlier, i have 2 small children and it is extremely frustrating, not to mention dangerous, to have to leave them standing beside the car while my wife or i climb about the interior to unlock the passenger doors so as to gain access to their car seats. *tr

2005 dodge caravan door safety locks open and close continiously the door open 3 times while i drove as a result - kid nearly fell out of vehicle. *tr

05 dodge caravan power door locks fail to function after short time after reset. have rest system several times. pulling bcm fuse and or unhooking battery resets system and then fails after short time. last time fit failed rear hatch lock would not engage. had to disconnect battery again to get door locks to work, because i was out of town and had items in van and couldn't take the chance of theft. i feel this is a safety issue because of this. after reading many complaints about this and the dealers say that this is a software problem, there should be a recall for this problem. *tr

I own a 05 dodge caravan. and the automatic locks have stopped working. i was told i would need to get updated software from the dealer in order to fix the issue. this is a manufactured defect and should be recalled by dodge. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge caravan. he stated that the power door locks would not operate correctly on the vehicle. the vehicle was diagnosed by a mechanic who advised him to disconnect the body module battery. the vehicle was also taken to the dealer where a second diagnosis was performed and they advised replacing the entire body module at costs of over $500 at the owner's expense. no repairs were made to date. there were no recalls. the current and failure mileages were under 58,500. the vin was not accepted in the system.

Interior automatic and keyless entry locks failed to work. my five year old son has difficulty pull the manual locking device up also. found information from other car owner online about the defect in the dodge caravan 2005 to fix automatic locking defect temporarily. *tr

We own a 2005 dodge caravan and the power locks have stopped working, which to me is a real safety concern having two small children. after looking around on the web there are several people having this problem. i was also informed that it is an issue with the computer and they have a patch program and they want to charge $130.00 for this repair, not a problem except that if several people are having this problem and it is a software problem then dodge should fix it. thank you for listening. *tr

The passenger side sliding door will not unlock using the key or the driver or passenger door's electric unlock button. the manual button on the door also will not unlock the door. i have not be able to open the door for over a month. i have seen suggestions on the web of taking out and then put back the iod fuse, but that did not work. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge caravan. the contact stated that the door locks failed. when he removed the body control module switch for a moment, and put the switch back the computer system resets and the door locks would operate properly for a few months. the vehicle will be taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test. the failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 102,000.

Second time electric door locks have failed to operate first time problem was solved by removing and reinstalling all fuses in ecm box under hood. repair lasted about one month and then second failure. *tr

2005 dodge caravan, locks quit working. there is a software update to repair. it is dangerous to have nonfunctional locks while driving. they do not automatically lock while driving, like they should. this is a common problem with the vehicle. *tr

Automatic door lock/unlock failed to lock/unlock on my wife's 2005 dodge caravan. this is apparently a common failure on this model as i determined from a web site. http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/caravan/2005/electrical/power_door_locks_quit_working.shtm the push buttons on the key give the indication of locking/unlocking the vehicle doors as the headlights blink and the horn signals a receipt of the signal, but the doors do not lock. also, the door lock switches on the inside of the door do not activate the locks. you can lock and unlock manually by using the buttons on each door - manually pushing them down to lock or raising them up to unlock. however, that is hard to do on a van as lock buttons are not easily reached. while there was no accident or damage from our failure, i can see the possibility of a problem, as an example : 1) a person thinks the doors are locked and a child is able to open the door while the vehicle is moving, 2) a person leaves the vehicle in a parking area thinking the doors are locked when they are not and someone breaks into the vehicle to steal it or to hide an attack the driver when they return. our dodge dealer was aware that this is a common failure and offered to apply a fix for around $50. apparently, the fix is to disconnect the battery or pull a 20amp fuse which as far as i can determine from the above web site "resets the computer module". so, i did the 20 amp fuse removal myself and that fixed it. however, from the complaints in the web site - this fix apparently does not last (that is sometimes it lasts for hours and sometimes for day or weeks). i will add that a few on the web site discussed having their computer "reprogrammed"and my dealer mentioned that term when i let him know i had been reading the web site. my extended warranty folks mentioned that probably the activator module would need to be replaced. all i know is-it is a class problem and as far as i am concerned should be fixed by a recall. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge caravan. while attempting to lock his vehicle the doors, they would not lock electronically. he has to manually unlock and lock the doors. the vehicle has not been taken to the dealer. the current and failure mileages were 77002. updated 11/12/09 *cn updated 11/16/09.

I'm writing this to complaint about 2005 dodge caravan power lock not working. we have 2005 dodge caravan and our power lock stop working. it will not lock or unlock anymore. i have check all fuse and all are fine. when you go to speed of 20mph it used to lock and even that stop working. i called the dealership and they said we have to update program and it will cost around $95.00. so i went on google search and found numerours complaint regurding lock problem other people has posted. dealership will not make that as recall. they want money to fix their computer problem which they should take care of. i hope you can see that lot of people are suffering to fix this and hope to come to rescue them

2005 dodge sxt caravan, power door locks indicate locked but are actually not locked. found grand son opening the door while i was backing out of the drive way, what a shock for me this was. this appears to be a bigger safety problem then the safety seat if a child falls out of the vehicle because the door was not locked. *tr

The power door locks on our 2005 dodge caravan have stopped working at only 35,555 miles. therefore, i do not have control over all the locks from my driving position, and they no longer auto lock when the vehicle attains approximately 9 mph. our son could unlock the door while the vehicle is moving. i believe this is a safety issue and should be addressed by the manufacturer. online research has led me to believe that the problem is fixed by the dealership performing a software upgrade download. therefore they know there is a problem and they should fix it. *tr

2005 dodge caravan se, power door locks stopped working as well as remote control door locks. although locking system continued to work for rear hatch through remote control. went to dealership and was informed of the bcm software update and that dodge was aware of the problem in this model year but could not make a recall on it. *tr

Automatic door locks on 2005 dodge caravan (96,000 miles) quit working all of the sudden. i discovered the problem when i took 3 kids to the mall & tried to lock the doors & nothing happened. i have had to pull the iod fuse & replace it twice now in 3 days just to be able to lock my doors. it isn't an option to not lock the doors but i really can't keep pulling the fuse & having to reset the clock every day or so. this is a major issue as there are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of caravan owners with the same exact problem. *tr

About a year ago, in fall of 2009, i had my first 2005 dodge caravan power lock failure. none of the locks locked either with the key button, or by turning the key in the driver's door. about 10 months ago i started removing the fuse to reset the lock mechanism. this worked for about a month, then a few weeks, then a few days, and now it will not even work correctly for a day after resetting the fuse. all door locks must now be manually locked and unlocked. *tr

Dodge caravan 2005 automatic door locks don't work properly. with small children this could be a real issue if they unlock or lock themselves in the car and the adult doesn't have the actual key on hand. only way to get the doors or trunk open is manually with a key now and only driver's side door has a hole for the key. the automatic side doors work half the time and seem dangerous for toddlers since they are erratic open/closing. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan power door locks fail. will not lock or unlock with remote or switches on doors. have to remove iod fuse for 10 seconds or more to restore function. power locks will only work for 2 or 3 days before problem occurs again. drivers door power window also has intermittent problem. will not use for concerns that it might stop working in the down position. left side power sliding door will not open or close fully using remote or switches on overhead console. dealer states they will keep vehicle for extended period of time to try to correct problems at my expense. dealer states known pcm issues with this model and software updates are available, but at owners expense. *tr

2005 dodge caravan sxt- 67500miles- door-locks stopped working. went through the disable/enable procedure in the owner manual to no avail. the enable appeared to work(audio signal), but the locks remained unresponsive. wife thinks she did something, but nothing i can find. no other elec. system seems to be affected. now looking for fuse/relay that controls door lock circuit. i suspect it is included in one of the acronyms in the fuse box. *tr

Out of the blue the locks on my 2005 dodge caravan quit working by remote and lock switch on door panes on both sides. we have small children who ride in this van and are concerned with the safety issue that this causes. i have replaced the iod 20a fuse and disconnected the battery to see if it is a computer glitch. *tr
