2005 grand caravan...power locks will not unlock or lock by either the remote or the door switch. causing driving with doors unlocked. *tr

Intermittent failure of the electronic door locks on our 2005 dodge caravan. we can not lock the passenger door from the driver's side door switch when electronic door locks fail. doors will also not lock with the key flob. you can not manually lock the rear door so when this occurs you can not lock the vehicle. this has happened 2 times problem will occur then you park the vehicle for a couple of hours and the problem goes away. *tr

The power lock system is failing almost on a weekly basis. the dealership states this is not a recall problem although from this site: http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/dodge-grand_caravan/power_locks_will_not_lock_or_unlock , and others this is a major problem taking place mostly after the vehicle is only a couple years old. i have to pull a 20 amp fuse and replace it for the locking mechanism to work again. the dealership is unaware of the problem and states that i must pay $100 to fix it, and if that doesn't fix it i am out of my money. i refuse to pay to have a problem fixed that is nearly as old as the vehicle itself. the locking mechanism problem described effects all the doors except the back lifting hatch door. the pulling of the fuse only "resets" the problem for approximately one week. *tr

The power door locks quit working on my 2005 dodge caravan. i researched online and discovered that many people have had the same situation occur to their 2005 caravan. i have not taken the car to get fixed yet but i do intend to as i have 3 young children and i do not want one of them to accidentally open the door. to move around the car an manually lock the door is very frustrating. because of the safety concern i feel that this should be a recall so this can get checked out and fixed by the dealer free of charge. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan electric door locks not working does not lock automatically when driving as it should dodge is aware of this safety issue and does nothing about it. *tr

Consist issues with the locks in my 2005 grand dodge caravan. lock won't unlock and a very hard to pull up and the locks won't lock. safety hazard for those in the car and mostly for kids. seems to be a really issue with year of van. please view this link : http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/dodge-grand_caravan/power_locks_will_not_lock_or_unlock you will see that this is an on going issue. *tr

I have a 2005 dodge caravan and the power door locks stopped working with no warning of any type. *tr

I have a 2005 dodge caravan. my power locks and sliding side door stopped working. could not lock/unlock doors with key entry nor the lock switch inside. also, i could not open/close the side sliding door with key entry nor with switch inside the van. had to manually lock/unlock doors throughout the van. on one website, i found 42 people with the same complaint about the power locks that go back for a two year period (march 2007 to may 2009). i have done what they suggest, which is to either disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, remove the #20 iod fuse for 5 seconds, or pay to have dodge update the software for the computer in the vehicle. i did the second choice. if all goes as it was stated on the website, the problem with the power locks will occur again. all but about 5 people have had recurring problems with their power locks. i feel that this is a safety issue due to the fact that i have two young kids who are able to open the doors by themselves if they wanted to do so. also, someone could get into the vehicle at any time when the power locks do not work and the person does not know that it is not working. please help up with this situation. *tr

My 2005 dodge caravan's power locks stopped working about a yr ago (2009) i tried replacing the fuse, new battery. this did not correct the problem. there is only one keyed entry into the vehicle which is on the drivers door which forces you to crawl all around the vehicle to open the other 3 door. in the even of an emergency this would be a huge safety issue. i know from reading other forums that thousands of other 2005 dodge caravan owners have this same problem. apparently dodge is aware of it because they have a software program update for it. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan automatic door locks no event leading to failure. randomly the door locks just quit working. more concerning is that the 19mph locking mechanism for the door locks will not work and the door lock switch quits working as well, leaving the rear doors unlocked while driving. there is no way to lock the rear doors from the exterior and short of crawling to the back over the front seats my children are in a car able to open the doors. this certainly has to be a safety issue. researching online, there appears to be numerous complaints with this issue and a varied amount of suggested fixes. dodge dealership desires to update the computer at a cost to me but, after reading the online complaints, this does not appear to be a fix. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge caravan. when entering the vehicle, the contact noticed that the automatic remote entry failed. she had to manually open the doors. when driving more than 10 mph, the automatic door locks fail to activate. the contact is in the process of taking the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. the manufacturer has not yet been notified. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 67,000 and current mileage was 67,200.

The automatic locks just stopped working. you have to unlock the drivers door and climb to all the doors to make sure and lock them manually. they used to lock when i went over 20 mph. it is very inconvenient and unsafe with my small children in the van. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge caravan. the contact stated that the power door locks and linkages were inoperative. as a result, he may be unable to safely exit and enter the vehicle in a timely manner in the event of a crash. the vehicle has not been inspected to determine the cause of the failure. the failure and current mileages were 39,000. updated 07/28/09 *bf the consumer stated the problems with the locks were fixed by the dealer. updated 07/30/09.*jb

I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan that consistently has power lock failures. i have been to many forums on the internet and it appears to be a common problem with 2005 dodge grand caravan owners. there are no recalls for this defect. *tr

Power door locks quit working. chrysler knows about this and has a $130 software upgrade that is supposed to correct the problem this is a safety issue! the vans should be recalled and the repair mandatory. children could easily open the doors in the back seat while the car is moving. *tr

Power door locks on my 2005 dodge caravan have quit working. there is only one door that has a key hole to use a key in. i have to unlock the driver's door, then reach over and unlock the other doors. this has been going on for over a year now. i can't afford to trade my vehicle in or i would. i have seen numerous complaints about the same problem on countless websites. dodge needs to be do something to fix this problem. *tr

Power door locks do not work on my 2005 dodge caravan. you have to unplug the battery to reset the computer, which only lasts a day. not having door locks that lock is a safety concern for me and should be for dodge. looking online, this appears to be widespread with their products, especially caravans. *tr

Failure of electrical system on 2005 dodge caravan, namely power door lock failure, including with key fob, switch on inside of vehicle and automatic locking mechanism. can be remedied by disconnecting battery and reconnecting or removing fuse and replacing. this only helps for up to 2 days. bought my van used at 115,000 miles, but every complaint i have read started at 40,000 miles. more than 40 complaints on one website alone. widespread problem among this model. my almost 2 year old son was able to open the door and climb out of the van on his own. thankfully we were stopped and parked. could have been a tragedy had we been in motion, and if i did not keep him securely fastened in his car seat until the vehicle stops. this was after resetting the battery for about the 20th time in the less than one year since i purchased my van. but again it had failed and the automatic locking mechanism hadn't engaged. i know that many have complained to dodge directly, but they refuse to acknowledge it as a safety issue and recall the electrical system. not the only problem i have found with the electrical system. others include headlights going out while driving, and turn signals not working properly, etc. people with small children (especially multiple small children) are a huge number of consumers for this vehicle and it would be a shame to have someone get hurt because dodge doesn't think it is a safety concern. i do and many others do as well. will it take a death of a small child for someone to get a recall initiated? *tr

While using the remote to lock the doors the horn beeped indicating doors were locked but the doors never lock. this has happened 5 times with no set pattern or method to make it happen again. found that removing a fuse from under the hood and re-installing seems to reset the system allow proper locking operation. pulling this fuse also resets the radio presets but since the warranty expired this seems like a little inconvenience for the cost to fix a problem that happens randomly. *tr

The door locks on my 2005 dodge minivan quit working. this is a safety hazard! it has happened before several times. we have small grandchildren that are riding in the backseat and i am worried about this. *tr

2005 dodge caravan has approximately 65,00 miles and the automatic door locks stopped working. the remote would cause the lights to flash and the horn to sound as if the doors locked but they did not. the door lock buttons inside the van did not work, nor did they lock automatically when reaching 20mph. i did a scan of the obd ii connector and no fault codes came up. so i figured it was something simple like a fuse. i checked the fuse/relay and it was good. as soon as i replaced the fuse they started working again. i took it to a dealer for a recall on the front impact sensors which i had to make an appointment for. i asked the dealer about the door locks and they said to bring it in when they are not working, so they could check it out (for a diagnostics charge of $120). the service guy did state that it probably needed a "software update". the impact sensor recall was not completed due to them not having the parts. now 2 weeks later still no parts for the recall (impact sensors) and the door locks quit working again. this time i disconnected the battery cable to reset the computer. and it works fine. being a person that likes to research things i did a "google"search for "dodge caravan locks will not work". i found the following website with 40 complaints about the very same thing. i think that this is a major safety problem and dodge should acknowledge this for a recall and fix the known issue. http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/caravan/2005/electrical/power_door_locks_quit_working.shtml. *tr

Electric door locks quit working. had one lock module replaced for #100.00. only worked for a few hours. to lock or unlock doors i must do each one by hand one at a time. mechanic says it is computer problem. *tr

Automatic door locks quit working. i have to detach battery for a little while and re hook up to reset locks then they seem to work only for a varying amount of time. i then have to do the same procedure over again. i'm not sure how long this will work so i will take it to the dealership. *tr

The door locks on my 2005 dodge caravan sxt are going on and off without activating the button . in my opinion this is a safety item that needs to be addressed . along with other people complaining about the same thing this should be a recall on this vehicle. *tr

The power door locks stopped working in our families 2005 dodge caravan. aftyer doing some research onlins i've found this has happened to other consumers whom own the same vehicle year make and model. this is not a problem that is fixed by just simply replacing a blown fuse but it seems that it is a computer problem. we have small children whom could open a door that is not locked. *tr

The power locks on my wife's 2005 dodge caravan sxt quit working. the power windows will quit working and will alternate(if driver window works passenger doesn't and the opposite) i have read on other sites about disconnecting the battery. this works for a couple of days and the problems come back. what happens if my wife and son are involved in a crash and the door locks don't work? *tr

2005 dodge caravan power door lock stop working after replacing a battery at 103,000 miles. *tr

Power door locks not working. same as everyone with this problem-----removing and replacing 20a iod fuse takes care of problem for a short time. haven't heard of a permanent fix yet. wonder if dodge will step up to the plate on this problem by recalling all 2005 dodge caravan asap. *tr

I bought the 2005 dodge grand caravan used friday, and found out later that the power door locks do not work, inside or out or with remote.. i went to the internet, and found through google search that many many people have had this safety problem i have kids, so lock safety is important. apparently chrysler has not had a recall for fixing this problem. if they do, please let me know if you have already addressed this problem with them. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan auto locks fail. kids can open doors while car is moving. the issue has been reported by many customers on internet support forums and apparently dodge refuses to recall this item. it appears to be a problem with the computer module of some sort and flashing the bios seems to help. this is ridiculous for the consumer to have to pay to fix such an issue. *tr

2005 dodge caravan power locks no longer work. was told that the computer need to have a software update. since dodge knows about the problem and created the software update then it needs to be a recall and be paid by dodge. this is a safety issue. *tr

Power lock failure dealer switches fuse and the issue comes back within a week. this is a safety concern for people with vans usually have kids and they could open doors going down the road and u can not lock vehicle which could result in theft/vandalism. *tr

We own a 2005 dodge caravan and the automatic door locks just quit working. we took it to our car repair and they were able to get them working again, but only for a couple of days. we eventually took it back to same repair and they called chrysler for information regarding part replacement. we took the van to a dealership where it was put on a machine to read and determined a part needed replaced. it was replaced and work approximately two hours and quit. if you go on the web you will find numerous complaints regarding this same problem. step up to the plate and tell those of us with this problem how to rectify permanently. it does not need to wait until someone is injured or killed because these locks don't work. i have spent nearly $500.00 in repairs not withstanding the number of times without my vehicle and the inconvenience of back and forth to the repair shop. the vin number on this vehicle . *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge caravan. the contact has been experiencing failure with the doors in the vehicle. the door latches open and close at random. the rear doors open by themselves whenever the contact drives over a bump at 15 mph. he took the vehicle to the dealer, but they failed to explain the cause of the failure. the contact believes this is a safety defect and hazardous while driving. the failure mileage was 70,000 and current mileage was 73,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge caravan. while driving approximately 5 mph on normal road conditions, the contact heard a loud noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and they stated that the failure was related to the power steering system. in addition, the automated power door locks failed to operate. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they recommended that the computerized system be reset. currently, the vehicle has not been repaired for the failures. the failure mileage was 50,000 and current mileage was 52,220. updated 02-23-09 *bf updated 02/24/09. *jb

Central locking system does not lock or unlock the doors even though it gives the beep letting driver think it does the job. sometimes this problem can be cured by removing iod fuse, but the problem comes back after a few days or even almost immediately. this appears to be a very common problem, however it is not listed as a recall. *tr

I noticed one day that the automatic door locks on my 2005 dodge caravan did not work. the doors did not lock when going over 20 mph nor did they work with the button in the van or with the button on the key. i took it to the dodge dealer and they told me it needed a software reprogramming - the cost was $100. this seems like a scam that your locks just quit working and then you have to pay. i have read of many similar complaints on this vehicle. *tr

Power door locks on 2005 dodge caravan inoperative. *tr

The failure is with the door locking system on the dodge caravan. the problem started about 5 months ago. the doors will not lock with the keyless entry or with the door switches inside car. if you unhook the battery in the car the system will reset itself and the locks will work for a period of time. 5 minutes to 4 days. i have already had my ipod stolen out of the car because of this problem. *tr

Power lock failure: suddenly the power locks stopped working. they don't work from the key fob, or the power lock buttons inside the van. alleged solution is a software update, costing upwards of $90.00 at the dealership. short term fix consists of disconnecting battery cable. this is a safety issue, annoyance, and clearly a manufacturing defect that should be fixed by the manufacturer free of charge. *tr

I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the automatic doors locks stopped working on the key pad and on the interior locks. i was told by my dodge dealership that there is a software update that needs to be done that comes out of my pocket. this is not only unacceptable, but a huge safety hazard not only for me, but my 3 year old daughter as well. this seems to be the standard from what i understand for the caravan. once it hits 30,000 miles the power door locks stop working. this is absolutely ridiculous and should be recalled. how do they expect in these economic times for the average working class to pay out of pocket for an error on their part for some software update??? as you can tell i am very displeased with dodge. i as well sent a complaint to them. is going to take somebody to die for them to see that this needs to be recalled?!?!?!? *tr

Can not lock doors with key fob or with switch on door. lights flicker indicating locking function but no actual locking takes place. vehicle now always unlocked. *tr

We have a 2005 dodge caravan and the automatic door locks continue to stop working. initially, we paid $70 for a mechanic who disconnected and reconnected the battery cable. my husband has done the same thing with similar results. the first time, it worked about 2 months. then, it happened twice in august and has now happened at least 3 times in sept. 2008. there is only one keyhole in the van to manually unlock all of the doors. this creates a safety hazard and much inconvenience! *tr

the power locks for the doors fail to operate and lock our 2005 dodge grand caravan doors. this has now happened twice. the first incident occurred approximately a month ago when the door power lock quit functioning. this remained the case for several days. i removed fuses and reinserted them back in place. this did not work. the locks began to work again three days later though. two days ago the door power locks have quit functioning again. i believe that this is a definite manufacture's defect. the doors do lock manually. i have searched the internet and i have seen quite a number of other complaints about this particular issue with no particular answer. i ask you to please investigate. thank you *tr

Power locks on my 2005 dodge caravan stopped working. found on the internet that this generally stops working at 44,000 miles, mine had 44,800. to fix the problem, all we have to do is remove the iod fuse for 5 seconds and replace. the dealerships are charging a min of $85.00 to fix this same problems. *tr

The power door locks on my 2005 dodge grand caravan stopped working. the solution by the dealer includes "reflashing" the computer control module in the vehicle with a software update. clearly, there is a design defect that was resolved with the software update. dodge required me to pay for this software update, despite this being a key feature of the vehicle. the power door lock feature is a safety feature for families with small children. the ability to lock/unlock all vehicle doors from the driver's seat in the event of an emergency is a required feature. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge caravan. while activating the keyless remote on the vehicle, the doors failed to lock. the exterior lighting flashed and the horn sounded, but the doors did not lock. while driving between 18-20 mph, the doors were supposed to lock, but did not. the vehicle has not yet been diagnosed by the dealer. the current and failure mileages were 80,000. updated 10/03/08 *bf updated 10/06/08. *jb

Problems with the power locks on my 2005 dodge caravan. they stop working. the first time was taken care off by the dealer. now the warranty has ended and the problem came back. since is a minivan is very difficult to reach the locks by hand because i have disabilities. *tr

2005 dodge caravan-power door locks and drivers automatic window purchased vehicle in aug. 08. verified unit was not flood vehicle/wrecked. upon test drive noticed the automatic door lock did not work nor did the drivers window go up an down. notified the car dealership they said it was a fuse, they replaced and door locks worked as did the driver window. less that a month later with no problem with the lock or window went to make the afternoon mail run to the post office and noticed the drivers window and automatic lock no longer worked but had worked at lunch the same day. after looking on the internet i see many issues concerning this vehicle. dealer said to bring the unit in for repair of 150.00 but after talking with another person with this problem they went that route and still had door and window failure. door look failure i guess i could live with but . *tr
