The automatic door locks on my 2005 dodge caravan quit working. this is issue with small children because the locks have to be manually locked and the doors often stay unlocked. *tr
Power door locks not working. *tr
Automatic door locks failed. can't lock/unlock the doors using the key automatic lock or the switch on the doors. have to manually lock and unlock all doors by hand. fuse is fine and if you unhook the battery cable for a few minutes it resets and works for varied period of time afterwards but eventually quits. this is safety issue especially if you have kids or drive in parts of town this unsafe. it is ridiculous to have to maneuver through the van to lock all the doors. *tr
Door lock/unlock will not work using wireless keypad nor manual button. car is a dodge caravan 2005. *tr
I have a 2005 dodge caravan minivan. the door locks are supposed to automatically lock once vehicle reaches 5-10 mph. the switch to lock/unlock the doors inside the vehicle don't work either. i have a remote lock as well. neither work now. it just stopped a month ago. i have to manually lock the doors. fuses are removed and negative battery cable is removed and it resets something that allows them to work again, but after a few days it's back to not working. this could be a safety issue, in my opinion, that with the doors not being locked in an accident i could fall out, or if it won't unlock i cannot get out quickly in an accident either. *tr
Power door locks stop working. disconnecting and reconnecting the battery is a temporary fix. dealer cannot diagnose. *tr
At any unknown time, the door locks will not lock, or unlock by way of using the key fob buttons. the button however does activate the horn, which would make you think the doors are locked,in reality they are not. this does not constitute a safe and secured vehicle. this problem has been brought to the service dept.'s of several dealerships with the answers being lightning in the sky, static from the seats, unknown electrical interference from somewhere(maybe space!. one service dept.'s charged $ 36.72 to fix code. the next time though there was no charge?? why the first time when it's still under warranty @ 26,000 miles ..this problem still exists. why??? former complaints from dodge p.u. owner had similar situation and had to have his veh. towed. this is unacceptable, another reason cited from dealers service dept was sliding across the seat could cause the problem, how do you do this when it has bucket seats?????? *tr
I have a 2005 dodge caravan and the locks quit working and a child can open the door if u are moving that is very unsafe. *tr
The power door locks on my 2005 dodge caravan sxt 3.3l v6 stopped working. the auto-door lock at 12 mph (or something close to this) stopped working too. the switch on the driver and passenger front-doors also stopped working. the remote keyless entry door-lock button signals (via the van's lights/horn) that the locks locked, but they do not lock. if you google this issue, you'll find a lot of other people are experiencing the same issue with their 2005 dodge caravans. it's a safety issue - we want the door's locked with our young ones in the back seat. i can't automatically lock them now, nor does the caravan do it automatically now since it stopped working. *tr
The door locks on my car will lock automatically. i got out of my car in my driveway, shut the door and the car locked. since i was getting back in, the keys were still in the ignition. when driving, you can hear at he door locks clicking. the lock button will unlock them but to lock them back up, you have to push up the drivers side window button. do you think this might be a safety hazard???? you can't lock the doors with the lock buttons at all in the car. the remote entry key still works. this has gotten progressively worse. first noticed about june 2008 and is ongoing. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge caravan. the contact stated that the power door lock was defective. in addition, she mentioned that she tried unlocking the doors both with the key fob and manually but to no avail. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who decided to update the computer module as well as detach the battery cables. all of the remedies failed to repair the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the vehicle was not further repaired. the failure mileage was 64,000 and the current mileage was 144,000.
The power door locks went out suddenly on my 05 dodge caravan. i had a local mechanic look at it, he told me i would have to take it to the dealer for a permanent fix. he had seen other vans with this problem and changing fuses or unhooking the battery for a few mins would be a temp fix. before taking it to the dealer i got online and looked into the problem further, only to find that this happens quite often to vans the same make, model and year as mine but so far i have heard nothing about a recall. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge caravan. whenever the contact attempts to use the power locks in his vehicle, they malfunction. the vehicle will not lock when the power lock buttons are pressed or when the keyless remote is used. there were no warning indicators prior to the failure. the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. the current and failure mileages were 50,000.
We have a 2005 dodge grand caravan and the automatic locks are now not working and this is causing a huge safety issue. please help. we have resorted to the original manual and their suggestion(s) are not working. again, this is a terrible safety issue...i have three small children and need to be able to safely and quickly lock and lock my doors as well as maintain locked doors while the van is in motion. please help. *tr
The power door locks stopped working. the only way to lock or unlock the car is with the key, and there's no keyhole except on the driver's door. dealer fixed it once: $89. second time, he charged $400 for a new body module. each time it stopped working again after about three months. he fixed it once more without charge, then said $89 each time thereafter. another mechanic went over the wiring all the way to each door and found no problem. i have stopped paying for the fixes. i have tried the unhooking the battery and unplugging the fuse tricks but they don't work. so i drive without power locks and deal with the nuisance of manual locks. (the electric window motor on the driver side also failed - another $400 bill. this is my ninth chrysler product but from now on i wouldn't take one if they gave it to me). *tr
Power locks on 2005 dodge caravan stopped working. *tr
2005 dodge grand caravan's power locks stopped working. they do not lock when you reach 30 miles an hour. and the lock button does not work at all. *tr
Power locks failing to work on 2005 dodge caravan. an update to software was required. safety rating of vehicle was reduced while malfunction was ongoing. auto door lock was not functional while children were traveling in van. this is the only form of child safety locks on the vehicle. *tr
Power door lock does not work. *tr
The power door locks suddenly quit working on my 2005 caravan. after looking at the internet i discovered that this is a common problem with this van and dodge knows about it. this issue needs to have a recall issued to make dodge fix the problem. not having door locks is very dangerous with today's rampant crime. *tr
2005 dodge caravan electric locks stop working. pull ido fuse wait 10sec reinstall, locks work again for weeks or days then you have to repeat procedure. chrysler has some kind of fix where they flash an eprom with some updated code (not a physical defect but a programming error) then they charge the car owner! chrysler knows about this problem and has done nothing proactive to address the issue. this is a very unsafe condition. when this happens you will not be aware that the doors have not locked and especially if you have children this could lead to an injury or a fatality. this is not an isolated problem you have only to search the internet to find possibly hundreds of frustrated and angry caravan owners. *tr
The power door locks do not function, have had this vehicle repaired per dodges tsb 08-040-04 on two occasions. that works for two weeks. was then told to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, and remove the bcm fuse, that also works for two weeks. the dealer recommended to replace the bcm, at my cost, but that will not fix the problem, as it has not fixed the issue on the other 2005's, per the service manager at another dealer. this is a safety issue, especially in a minivan with three children, and the power locks inoperable. it is imperative that dodge steps up and fixes these vans, for safety's sake. it appears, though, that dodge simply does not have a proper fix for this problem. *tr
The automatic locks do not work on my recently purchased 2005 dodge caravan. the problem is, that there is no key option on the passenger side of the vehicle. the dealership has fixed it 3 times already since i purchased it and will not take the van back. the locks are an issue as i have three children, two in car seats and i am not able to access them from outside the vehicle. *the horn beeps when you push the lock button on the auto key lock control so you assume the car is locked. after later inspection you realize that the locks didn't actually work. (i had an item stolen from my car last night when i was under the impression the locks had worked based on the horn sound). *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge caravan. all of the automatic door locks in the vehicle failed to lock. the failure occurred frequently. the door locks are a safety issue since children can open the door while the vehicle is in motion. the current mileage was 54,754 and failure mileage was 52,000.
Http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/caravan/2005/electrical/power_door_locks_quit_working.shtml my power door locks quit working at 40k miles on my 2005 dodge grand caravan similar to these other people. dodge has not acknowledged this problem and it is creating an unsafe condition for my wife and children. *tr
Door locks do not automatically work. i do not like this because the door used to lock as soon as i started driving and so i didn't have to worry about it being unlocked and now i forget to lock it. it is very unsafe in this world we live in. *tr
I bought this vehicle 2 months ago., already have problems with sway bar bushings., i already fixed at my expense.., the biggest concern is that the locks quit working., browsing on the net i found several complaints., i did already contact dodge but they are doing nothing so far. this on my appreciation is a safety matter ., since the doors can not be open with the remote., no even from inside using the buttons., the only door that has a key use for is the one for the driver., what can some one do is you have to get inside the car for any given urgency., but the only entry will be the driver's side???? please refer to these sites for such complaints please help us thanks. http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/caravan/2005/electrical/index.shtml. *tr
My power locks have failed multiple times. i'd like to share a quick fix for other complainants. open your hood and stand at the drivers side front fender. remove the cover from the fuse box. now remove the far bottom left 20 amp fuse for 10 seconds and put it back. it's easier than removing your battery cable. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge caravan. he stated that the electric door locks stopped working without warning. the contact stated that he disconnected then reconnected the fuse and that temporarily solved the failure. as of may 13, 2008, the dealer had not inspected or repaired the vehicle. the failure mileage was 29,000 and current mileage was 30,000.
Power doors ceased to work. technical advise was requested and it was told to me that a possible upgrade to the bsm would correct this problem. dealer is charging $180.00 for this upgrade which in my opinion is a safety issue since children may open these doors or may open as well. *tr
After raining and freezing overnight, i got into my 2005 dodge caravan to go to work. i attempted to move down the drivers side window with the power window down switch. the window was frozen in place. after trying to get the window down 3 or 4 more times. i gave up and went onto work. when i came out from work to go home the window was completely down. i tried to use the power window up button and it would not raise. took it to a dodge dealer and they replaced the entire window raising/lowering mechanism at a cost of over $400.00. sent complaint to chrysler and they did not even write me back. do not try to lower a window in a dodge caravan as the mechanish is weak, mis-designed and flimsy. *tr
I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the power door lock stop working when the wireless remote is press it will not lock the doors. if i disconnect the negative terminal of the battery and leave it disconnected for 5 minutes it will work again. i have to do this every other day. i hear same people having this problem have taking the car back to the dealer and the dealer have charge $130 to reprogram the bcm. if so many people in the internet are having the same problem the dealer should not be charging this crazy amount since is problem with the software in the bcm. *tr
My 2005 dodge caravan door locks have stopped working. i took the van to the dealer and they completed a fix that did not last 24 hours but it cost me $100. when we took it back they billed me another $100 to say that i needed the bcm replaced at a cost of $400. in doing my research i see that this most likely would not fix the problem. i feel it is very dangerous the only way to unlock the van is to go to the drivers side where there is a key entry point. god forbid if my family is ever in the car and i can not enter from the drivers side ajd the doors are locked. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge caravan. when locking and unlocking the doors on the vehicle, it alerts the owner as if the alarm is set, the door is locked or unlocked. the contact observed that the doors were not locked or unlocked and the alarm was not set on the vehicle. the contact wasn't notified that there was an update available until he called to dealer about the failure. after notifying the dealer, they stated that there was an update to the software for $130. the update to his vehicle was performed on november 8, 2007. the approximate failure mileage was 42000 and the current mileage was 43845. rk
We have owned our 2005 dodge grand caravan since 10/2004 and have had problems with the power locks for two years. power locks are very important to us for practical and safety reasons (we have 3 young children) so we were pleased to find online forums that provided temporary computer remedies to this problem to eliminate costly repair bills. however, this was only a quick fix and short term. the locks had to manually be reset monthly, sometimes daily (more than once a day near the end), and now cannot be rest at all. we have only 37,900 miles on our van but are no longer under warranty. it is just too costly to take the van into the dealership to fix a problem that obviously must be recalled by reading over a hundred complaints. this failure is a computer problem and must be remedied by dodge for the safety of our children before they are hurt. there is only one key entry to the van on the drivers side which makes it extremely difficult to maneuver and travel. we have to crawl all around the inside of the van and over car seats to lock and unlock all of the doors. if the doors aren't locked, one of the kids could open them which is a real safety hazard. disconnecting the battery to reset the computer system is not something that we should have to handle, it is a computer failure on the part of chrysler and should be recalled as such for our safety. *tr
My wife, 2 young sons, and i went out to spend the afternoon running errands. when we left our home, the door locks worked with the keyless entry system as well as with the switches inside the car. after making our second stop of the afternoon, my wife noticed that the door locks were no longer functioning. they failed to work via key chain, switch, or speedometer override (when car reaches 20 mph). compounding the issue, the caravan only has one outside door lock, which means the car can only be manually unlocked at the driver side door. the remaining doors must be unlocked from the inside. this means that someone must climb throughout the vehicle's interior to let other passengers in. as i mentioned earlier, i have 2 small boys and it is extremely frustrating, not to mention dangerous, to have to leave them standing beside the car while my wife or i climb about the interior to unlock the passenger doors so as to gain access to their car seats. over the last year, i have taken my vehicle to the dealership to have this same problem addressed on five separate occasions. the longest this problem has remained resolved is thirteen months. each time the dealership has replaced the body control module. today will be the sixth occasion i have had the same problem with my door locks. *jb
Vehicle's automatic door locks stop working. worked fine until around 36,000 miles then stopped working. can remove batter connection and reconnect after a few minutes and the locks will work without issue. vehicle is suppose to lock doors at minimum speed and this feature does not work. dealer says problem can be fixed with a software update but not covered under warranty. problem seems to be a safety issue since vehicle was purchased with this safety feature in mind. after research found that this issue is occurring to many consumers of this type of vehicle. could lead to injury for a child if the doors do not lock as expected. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge caravan. the contact stated that the power door locks stopped working intermittently. he had to remove the fuse, wait and re-insert the fuse in order for it to function properly. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and a repair shop where the contact was told that they could find nothing wrong with the locks. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the current mileage was approximately 70,000. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
The electric door locks quit working, both from inside the car and from the remote key. the first time it happened was sept. 2007. i took it to the dealer and they fixed it but i don't know how. now jan. 2008 it has happened again. *tr
Power door locks stopped working. disconnecting battery then reconnecting battery only works for a few days. locks are supposed to lock automatically but fail to do so. buttons do not work either. *tr
Door lock failure of dodge grand caravan 2005 took to dealer twice worked only little while dealer just kept charging more for fix. *tr
2005 dodge caravan. door locks inoperative. 4 tries to have corrected. temp fix. problem re-occurs. a real threat to the safety of 4 children passengers. *tr
I have a 2005 dodge caravan. the locks, including the child safety locks have quit working. i must manually lock my doors including both sliding doors. my children are able to unlock these sliding doors and open them while traveling. because this poses a huge danger for the safety of my children, i feel that dodge should rectify this defect. *tr
I have a 2005 dodge caravan i bought used from the dealer in 2005. in 2007 the driver side rear sliding door lock failed. i cannot lock the door with the auto lock system inside the van or on the key fob. i brought it to the dealer to look at and was told the door lock actuator failed. one year later the other rear sliding door lock failed. it is not covered under warranty. so i have been unable to fix the problem. *tr
The power door locks on 2005 dodge caravan do not work. have tried resetting computer, on many occasions, with no help from dealer. computer reset is only a temporary fix at best. this presents a serious theft issue and a child safety issue. many similar complaints have been found on the internet, but no recall has been issued. *tt
Dt*: the contact stated when the vehicle was in gear, the rear sliding doors cannot be opened from the inside. this was the way the vehicle was designed. the contact express concern that in the event of an accident with the driver unconscious, the occupants including children would not be able to exit the vehicle.
Power door locks, stop working. this could be a danger to kids in back when doors don't lock. 2005 dodge caravan had this defect. they said it was a software defect, could correct for $70.00 or up. you can pull battery cable off to get working for a day or two. *tr
Defective sway bar at 28,000 miles-dealership stated it is normal with this year of caravans & that i don't have to have replaced lights would not shut off or turn on with manual operation - when the vehicle is off for a long time the lights turn on for no reason at all. we have replaced the lightbulbs on 3 different occasions fuse keeps on blowing in engine at 32,000 miles, 34,000 miles and 39,050 miles. electronic windows, door locks, automatic side door no longer operate at 41,000 miles. excessive corrosion around battery every 4,000 miles paid to have cleaned 5 times and they say my battery is fine other than the corrosion build up. *tr
I own a 2005 dodge caravan and the power locks quit working, the horn blows and the lights blink when you push the keyless button but the locks don't lock or unlock. this is very dangerous as the kids in the back can open the doors and we think they are locked. i have asked the dodge garage about a fix and am told it needs a computer flash fix or something for $130.00. this is a safety issue and should be recalled and fixed by the manufacturer. also the doors no longer lock when the speed reaches 20 mph. *tr
Dt: 2005 dodge caravan. the consumer states the side door on the driver side comes open while driving. the vehicle has not been looked at yet. there has not been a determination as to why this is happening. dodge told the consumer to take the vehicle to the dealership. this only happened once, he has bungee cordes and door cannot happen again. there were no indicator lights that the door was open. *ak
