Problems with 2017 Chrysler Pacifica STEERING

On average, the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica starts to “feel” problems with the STEERING and its various aspects after 19 772 miles.

Recently reported STEERING problems on 2017 Chrysler Pacifica

I believe my vehicle is have the issue of a known recall on this type of vehicle: engine stall or loss of power steering assist a loss of power steering assist or a stall can increase the risk of crash. i was driving and suddenly the power steering went out and the vehicle came to a stop. i was instructed on the screen to put the vehicle in park. once i put it in park the vehicle shut off. i tried restarting it. the brake was stiff and would not push in. when i pushed the button it went to "acc" then when i pushed it again it went to "run" but the vehicle was not on and i could not change the shifter out of the park position. this was very dangerous and happened while vehicles were driving behind me causing people to suddenly come to a stop.

While driving, vehicle completely lost power/stalled. power steering lost, all acceleration and power assisted braking. indicator lights for variety of systems light up. pull over to side and restart vehicle. vehicle exhibits "haywire" behavior, with indicators for all systems, including traction control tire pressure, battery, hybrid electric system, parking brake, etc.going off. a short video was taken of this behavior when restart was attempted after the stall. vehicile fails to restart. after additional try, vehicle starts, and traction control and some other systems remain non functional. vehicle is returned home, then returned to dealer, who advises that vehicle firmware is up to date, and that the issue "cannot be duplicated." vehicle was up to date on previous recalls relating to stalls. the stall was incredibly dangerous, and dealer does not seem to have any idea what source of the problem is. we have been sent away, being told to return the vehicle if problem shows up again. we do not feel that vehicle is safe to drive, and dealer has done nothing to address or diagnose the issue that caused the problem. the issue came after some other issues with vehicle sometimes indicating that airbags need service, or not recognizing that seatbelts were buckled. i believe the issue to be related to problems with computer firmware governing the vehicle.

2017 chrysler pacifica, 33'400 miles- hesitation after placed into/ shifting gears from a stopped position, 5-10 seconds until the car jerks into gear from release of break pedal to engaging in selected gear. heated steering wheel feature only works intermittently, whether selected from settings with start or manually selected, all controls from steering wheel go out periodically after the vehicle has been in motion, will not work at all, including radio controls, cruise control button, u-connect button, vr button- not even the illumination of the controls works when this happens. usually after the car has been in motion for at least 10 minutes. has happened several times, but comes back on at random intervals while driving. has only happened on short trips. unknown cause. purchased vehicle used with 20k on it may 30,2019.

When making a slight right hand turn the steering does not naturally return to the center position, and must be physically forced to return to the center position. this problem has persisted for the last couple of weeks

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. while attempting to reverse the vehicle, the steering wheel needed extra strength to steer and the engine and power steering assist indicators illuminated. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 19v348000 (electrical system). the vehicle was taken to greenbrier motor company (9841 seneca trail, lewisburg, wv 24901, (304) 645-1010), but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not included in the recall. the failure mileage was 46,900.

I was turning at an intersection and my pacifica stalled and would not go until i slammed on the gas because a car was coming and i almost got hit. it's very unsafe for my kids to be in the van if it's going to stall when turning.

Driving multiple occurrences of brief loss of power steering at speed in motion. hesitation, difficult, hard to turn. googled this issue an observed a fca recall. i called fca customer services and they stated my vehicle is not in the recall by vin. however it is an early 2017 model.. i am filing this as my wife reported this to me for the first time that it had occurred to her recently when driving. after she told me 3 miles later while i was driving at speed oft 45mph in a wide sweeping turn the steering resisted input on me to return to center and caught me by surprise for a brief second then resumed back to normal. at that moment i myself had just what she told me happened to her multiple times recently when driving. we no longer want to drive the vehicle and deem it a safety risk due to this steering issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. while driving various speeds, the steering wheel seized for approximately three to four seconds without warning. the contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to auto plaza chrysler dodge jeep ram farmington (970 e woodlawn dr, farmington, mo 63640, (573) 431-7800) where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion module defaulted and the power steering module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was 74,300.

The steering is loose. while turning there is a knock, turning into a parking space or backing out of a drive way, while in park and turning the steering wheel. i took my van in 1 and a half weeks after my warranty expired and they said i needed a new rack and pinion which was going to be over $4000,00! the dealership advised me to call chrysler to see if they would cover it, they did not. after further research, it is shown that if a rack and pinion is bad, the front end could fall apart at any time. i only have 36k miles on my van that is 2 years old. that is ridiculous to me, and this is a safety concern. especially in a family vehicle such as a van.

I took my car 2 times already to the chrysler service center to investigate steering wheel problem, and they told me that they couldnt find out any problem. it feels like locking when you turn the steering wheel and turn to other way. my 3 babies are riding in this car and i worry so much. it happens low speed and high speed also (30 - 70 mph)

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the door push button failed to open the door from inside the vehicle. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. in addition, the vehicle was serviced per an unknown recall. afterwards, the vehicle failed to start, the steering wheel was difficult to turn, and all the warning indicators turned on and off. the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was previously serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 19v348000 (electrical system). on another occasion, while driving, the steering wheel seized and a warning indicator illuminated, indicating to park and start engine. the engine failed to start. the vehicle was towed to lone star chrysler dodge jeep ram (8811 interstate 35 access rd, san antonio, tx 78211, (210) 828-1515) where multiple inspections were completed. the contact was unaware of the diagnostic results. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 63275357. the approximate failure mileage was 22,500.

I continue to have problems with "jerking" while driving my 2017 pacifica. the best way i can describe it as the car "jerks" forward very forcefully. i have had it in 6 times for the same "jerking" motion. i am concerned that it may cause an accident if it jerks and completely stops. the "jerking" happens at very random times, acceleration, coasting, cruise control use, and slowing down. some days it happens multiple times a day, and others it can go a week or two without happening. chrysler has replaced valves and the entire transmission unit, however, the problem is still happening. for the past month, when the jerking happens, the steering wheel now attempts to lock and this didn't start happening until chrysler started "messing" with parts. the vehicle was purchased with 18k miles on it as a "chrysler certified vehicle." i have filed a case with chrysler and was told i would be contacted within 24-48 hours and it has been 8 days with no contact from them. i have reached out to them day after day and still haven't recv'd a call back. i don't feel comfortable driving this on busy roads with my children in the car for fear of an accident.

Initially, while driving, a brief warning message would flash on the driver's info cluster that the "power steering was unavailable" and then the warning would go away very quickly. however, the warning began coming on more frequently, always while driving, and it would stay on, resulting in a total loss of power steering. this was very frightening since in the large van it became difficult to control while driving at both highway and side-street speeds. when the engine would be turned off and then restarted, the malfunction would resolve, however, it began happening more and more frequently, sometimes multiple times during a short drive. it was very unsafe to drive as the power steering could have potentially gone out at any time, such as a highway corner, resulting in loss of control. the car is now in the shop while they are trying to find a repair for the problem but as of now they are saying it is electronic and not mechanical.

My issues started when my auto start/stop stopped working. i took it in to the dealership and they said the accessory battery was dead and they didn't have a replacement in. that it was in backorder. then my main battery went dead. i had to have my vehicle towed to the dealership. they replaced my main battery and again they made mentioned that the auto start/stop didn't work. i said i know the accessory battery is dead and that it was on backorder. i was told to bring the van back in the following week and they would test the accessory battery again and replace it if was bad. took the van back. they said it wasn't the battery that something was wrong electrical because too many volts was being outputted. at this time i made mention of the power steering issue. i got a warning light saying it wasn't working. was told nothing showed up on the computer about the power steering. took van back in for the electrical system to be evaluated. my husband drove the van and on the way to the dealership tje power steering system cut off and then in mid turn cut back on almost causing him to hit another vehicle head on. told dealership of the problem and also the jerking issues when shifting into lower gears. dealership actually figured out it was the accessory battery that was dead so they replaced it. then while they had it they had issues with the power steering cutting on/off. so they said it was the rack & pinion. they couldn't duplicate the issues with the van jerking into lower gears. well here we are a month later and my power steering is still cutting off/on while driving causing near car accidents. the van still jerks sometime when trying to get into lower gears. called chrysler consumer number and they said they would get back with me. the power steering issues is a major safety hazard, can't get van into the dealership till next week because they are behind.

Power steering failing completely. started intermittently and was first advised that a 'low battery' caused a power spike in the power steering unit and they charged the battery. then it happened more frequent and they diagnosed it to the power steering unit itself which took a week to replace. then two days later the power steering went out while entering a 90 degree curve at 35 mph. afterwards i could sit idling, watching the voltage wander between 11 volts and 15 volts, and have power steering, but as soon as i turned on the headlights or foglights or put it in gear, the voltage would stabilize at 14.6-14.8 volts and the power steering would turn off. it's been a week and they just contacted chrysler. i'm at 15 days in the shop between failed secondary battery, and a major safety issue with the power steering and no end in site. when the power steering fails, there is practically no way to turn the vehicle unless you have significant strength in the arms. a normal sized woman would only have one recourse and that is to stop abruptly. this will lead to an accident. when the power steering went out on me at 35 mph, i had no ability to abruptly stop as i had a car immediately behind me. that would have resulted in being rear ended. if i hadn't been able to steer it by sheer brute force, we would have crashed into the trees along the road. when the vehicle was towed to the dealership the power steering would fail while sitting still, much less driving like it did when it first started. i have video of the power steering going in and out while sitting in the drive way.

Code pcm p258b electric vacuum pump = press on brakes and van does not stop must keep trying to press on brakes to stop this is not safe. code abs c1252-92 vacuum pump control circuit code sccm b2225-00 (scm) steering column module internal

The vehicle was in motion on a city street just driving straight. the engine shut off while driving. the display indicated to put the car in park to start the vehicle. the power steering shuts off. i was not going fast at the time and was able to stop, put it in park, press the brake, start the vehicle, and put it into drive. however, i was in traffic and almost was rear ended by another vehicle who was fortunately able to stop in time. this issue affects the brakes, engine, steering, power train and all around safety. i was lucky that i was driving and that my kids were not in the car. i was going to pick them up.

Rear door and side doors open up while driving. van stalls and sputters when taking off. when driving and turning the wheel to the right or left the steering wheel vibrates. it does not feel like the wheel is rubbing in the wheel well.

I was driving down the interstate at 70mph and all of a sudden the van told me to put it in park and restart the vehicle. as i'm sitting in the middle of the interstate in rush hour traffic and cars flying past me i discover i'm locked out of my own engine. the brakes were locked, i couldn't restart the vehicle, i tried opening my door, after the van came to a stop, to get the van to reset but nothing worked. finally the van allowed me to start the vehicle back up after several minutes of being stranded in the middle of the interstate. i had lost power steering and wasn't able to pull over alongside the shoulder nor could i brake or accelerate! i had to wait for the car to come to a stop and then had to troubleshoot why my engine locked me out in the middle of a 4 lane highway.

While operating the vehicle at a low speed (10-15 mph) and making a left hand turn the vehicle lost power, including steering, and acceleration. the radio and accessories were still working. all the gear shift lights were flashing and a beeping noise occurred. on the dash a display said "change gears to start". i tried neutral and other gears, before going back to drive and it didn't do anything. i placed the car in park and it got stuck in park. i couldn't change the gear after that. i then pressed the on/off start button and it restarted and powered up the engine and i was able to drive the car home. i immediately called the dealership and left a voicemail. the first appointment available was june 27th, 2018 at 0830. the customer service rep said there was no log/warning or notification related to this issue. i contacted chrysler corp customer care at 1101 on june 27th, 2018 to notify them of the issue and that the dealership couldn't find anything wrong. chrysler corp customer care representative advised me to file a complaint with nhtsa and to ensure dealership files a star case. i then re-contacted the dealership at 1112 on june 27th, 2018 and advised them we wanted to open a star case. the car goes back to the dealership on tuesday july 3rd, and they will keep it and try and re-simulate the issue while we have a loner car.

My girlfriend was driving my pacifica. she experienced the car jump and she described it as being hit from behind. then all of the sudden the vehicle forced itself to turn hard left and cause her to hit a box truck. she then bounced off that car and hit another vehicle. she said the brakes weren't working to good either. this car only had 11,186 miles on it. i have reported a similar issue of my vehicle jumping like it was pushed from behind or a jolt of power like the trans was slipping, only months into owning the vehicle. it was taken in and looked at more than once by my dealership, but they could not reproduce the problem, there were no codes, and therefore they couldn't find or fix the problem. now the problem caused a car accident and luckily my kids were not in the vehicle. the car air bags also failed to deploy even though it experienced impact on both sides at 30-35 mph. the front end was destroyed pretty good, so i am in shock the air bags were not deployed. now the dash indicates the air bags need service? after the accident the car would not shut down and 3 officers felt the car was malfunctioning. upon looking into my service records i noticed something odd. my "chrysler app" shows nhsta recall # 18v-049 as being completed according to the vin. but my last visit to my dealer in feb of 2018 indicated there was no fix available at this time. how can it show completed then? i realized that the issues she experienced, and my self, are similar to the symptoms in this recall. there may be another similar...serious issue, that has to be looked into. some type of malfunction caused this car to jump and drive right into another vehicle. this can be very dangerous if you put this same situation on an expressway going 55 mph+, especially if the air bags fail to deploy *tt

At a stop light in the turn lane i lifted my foot off the brake to drive as the light turned green. i hit the gas and nothing happened. i looked and the screen said to put the car in park. i put the car in park and then the screen said that i needed to stop/start restart the car. i turned the car off and tried turning it back on. there was a clicking noise, the engine would not start but everything else powered back on. i did this a couple of times and every time i tried starting the car there was just clicking and it would not start. i turned the car off again, opened the car door so that everything would power off. i then closed the door and it started back up.

The vehicle stalls while in motion and while shifting from first to the second gear or from second to third gear. after it stalls for a couple of seconds the vehicle jumps. it is not something constant that will occur, only sometimes and the dealer cannot reproduce the occurrence and they cannot take any action to fix it (at least this is their response). the computer is not recording any malfunction. when this occurs but you cannot accelerate or decelerate, or do anything to avoid any potential accident. i submitted the vehicle to two chrysler dealers for a check and because they couldn't reproduce the incident they told me to wait until such issue occurs more constant. this is a very disturbing approach because it happens while the vehicle is in motion and can provoke an accident. i have 4 children and i use the van to drive my family and this is a significant safety issue that should be considered more seriously. *tt updated 8/30/18*jb

The lane keep assistant (lanesense) system went offline and stated it needed service. took to the dealer and they stated the lower front camera needed to be replaced. when the dealer was asked if the problem is common, they could not answer. this is the same part on every fiat chrysler of america vehicle with this feature. this system has the ability to take the control of the vehicle from the driver and direct the vehicle in the appropriate direction. if this item is functioning incorrectly, it has the potential to steer the vehicle into other vehicles and on coming traffic. this feature failed while the vehicle was in motion at near highway speeds (55 mph) in heavy traffic.

This van has staled on me 4 separate times now, twice putting me in a very bad area for a head on crash and 1 severe read end crash. i have had the van in the shop multiple times, this last time since 4th of march to current. 1st time i was driving about 30 mph on a main city street, pulled out of side street and the van just stalled. i have no power steering, brakes, nothing, by the time it stopped rolling i was in the oncoming lane of a very busy street. 2nd time i was dead stop at a light, the light changed and they van didnt move, had the pedal to the floor and nothing. 3rd time i was leaving my home, pulled out onto the country road on which we live, started up the hill, lost power again, took me in the oncoming lane, which if a car or truck came around the bend they wouldnt have tiome to stop[, logging truck was roaring up behind me, dont know how he missed me, all the time on his horn. i have talked with chrysler escalation dept. and they offered to do a buy back.. went to dealership today and what chrysler offered was 50% now on the buy back and the other 50% when they resale the van? the dealership wont except this offer. its unethical and unsafe and they want no part of this. chrysler is aware of the problem with no fix at this time. i am no getting back into that van nor do t i don't want to be their 1st fatality nor do i want to be one of their statics.

I brought my car into the shop on friday february 2, because i had experienced on 2 separate occasions a stall. once when i was turning out of my subdivision, so thankfully at a slow speed, however, the car stalled in the middle of a busy road that i was turning onto. the second time, i was pulling into the gas station, decellerating at about 30mph. i had no idea about this recall, i just knew that i needed to get it fixed, as i have 3 children that ride in my car every day. once i arrived to the dealer, i was notified that there were 2 recalls for my vehicle, and that they wouldn't be able to fix either of them until april. i have owned the car for less than a year, and am terrified to put my children in this vehicle. chrysler has informed me there is nothing they can do for me. that they will fix it in 2nd quarter of 2018. this is not ok. 2 saftey recalls and chrysler is not doing anything about it. i know there must be others out there that are thinking this way as well, and that we can come together to get this taken care of. i will not wait around for my car to crash while i'm driving due to a stall and a recall that is not being fixed for 3-4 months.i am not impressed at all with chrysler and will make sure they are held accountable.

While driving 60mph on i-55 on dec 26, 2017 with my sick newborn baby in the van my 4 month old 2017 pacifica stalled on me in the center lane of the highway. i was not able to press the brakes nor steer the car. i somehow managed to move over to the shoulder by jerking at the wheel i barely made it on to the shoulder and the van shut off completely and lost all power. i called roadside assistance only to sit on hold for over 20 mins. i then called the dealership back and they sent a private tow truck out to me. overall i sat for 1.5 hours before help arrived. i was extremely cold and afraid for our safety as semi trucks and cars swerved around me. the van was taken to the dealership and they are reporting that the alternator went out in addition to issues of several electrical codes that came up. again, this is a brand new van that i have only had for 4 months. i called fca on 12/26/2017 and 12/28/2017 to follow up and i am still waiting on a call back.

We purchased a pacifica on 12/21/2017. not even an hour after leaving the dealership the vehicle stalled, losing all power, and had to be restarted to regain power and driving ability at a stop light. we were not hit, but it is very dangerous to have a vehicle that stalls randomly.

Vehicle shuts off while driving and cannot be restarted until it comes to a complete stop. vehicle has stopped running while slowing down for a light, it has stopped after getting off expressway and while driving through a parking lot. in the last two months it has stalled at least 10 times.

Back in november 2017, my family and i were driving 70mph on the freeway and the car's dashboard light all turned on and started blinking. the car lost power forcing me to quickly pull over and avoided another car from colliding. the service lights turned on. i turned of the ignition and turned it back on. i took the car to the dealership the following day. they ran a diagnostic test but could not pull any codes of the incident. i saw the recall announced a couple of days ago. i contacted chrysler and was informed that the fix for this recall will not be available until 2nd quarter of 2018. i do not feel safe driving this car, especially with my kids on board. we purchased this car for its safety rating, now we are driving a death trap.

On 4 occasions i lost ability to accelerate. i push on the gas and the car won't go. it just stops or stalls. the power is on but car won't go. i seem to lose some power steering. twice this was while making a left turn with traffic coming toward me on a busy street. i was stalled in the middle of the road . finally the van began to work again and shot me forward abruptly. today 11/27/17 i brought it to chrysler dealership. they are telling me a software update will fix it but i'm skeptical and afraid to drive it.

We purchased the vehicle at a local dealership in july 2017. in august, vehicle lost power steering communication unexpectedly. dealership was able to restore power steering, however, they were not entirely sure of the cause. in october, the vehicle lost electrical communication and was stuck on a busy highway off-ramp after stopping at a stop light. we were unable to move the car for 30 minutes. dealership unable to determine the cause and advised us that the car company said they needed to give us the car back. the car has been in the shop for a total 22 of days and nothing was fixed the second time to prevent this from happening again.

I was driving on the street thankfully at a lower speed about 25 mph and the power steering suddenly gave out. it then came back randomly while turning. it did that multiple times before i was able to get it to the dealer. i have been told it is an electrical problem. it has been 2 1/2 months and they have not been able to fix it. i do have a loaner. i had a chrysler customer care case but they have cut off all contact with me.

On multiple occasions over the past 6 months, this vehicle has lost power, causing the driver to have no ability to steer the vehicle, accelerate, or brake until it comes to a complete stop. this has happened under a range of different circumstances - while driving less than 15 mph in a parking lot and also while driving approximately 25 mph. there are numerous reports of others experiencing the same sudden loss of power on online forums (e.g., pacificaforums.com), and some of these occurrences have been registered at higher speeds. each time we have brought it to a chrysler service center, mechanics have advised that all diagnostic tests do not reveal any issues and efforts at driving the vehicle to replicate the issue similarly come back negative. all others who claim to have experienced similar problems with their pacifica have reported similar negative test results, with no remediation proposed. this is an unacceptable risk. we can be contacted at [xxx]. thank you. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr..updated 10/23/17 *bf updated 9/7/18*jb

I purchased a brand new 2017 chrysler pacifica and was had 309 miles on the car when i had this incident. i was driving approximately 65mph in the left most lane when i suddenly lost all power to the engine, steering, and brakes and was unable to accelerate or brake normally. i used quite a bit of strength to maneuver the car to the right shoulder and nearly was rear ended by a semi truck in doing so as there was no shoulder on the left hands side. during this time period, all of the lights in the instrument cluster were flashing various warnings and failure symbols. i was able to get to the shoulder, shut off the car and restart it at which point the car was violently shaking and again giving many flashing warnings. i drove at a max speed of 16mph to a safer location off the highway at which point the car again stalled and stopped. the car was then towed to the dealer. ..updated 10/25/17 *bf updated 10/30/2017*js

2017 pacifica touring-l engine shutdown completely when driving at about 35-40 mph on a city street when i slowed down from 45 mph. the van is less than a year old and has about 10000 miles on it. screen displayed message 'shift to park and restart vehicle'. i tried restarting without stopping the car as there were cars behind me and i saw the message "too fast to shift to park" and the power steering was also cut off because it is electronic. i had to park on the shoulder and restart after a complete stop. contacted my chrysler dealer and he told me that unless there is a code no diagnosis is possible. i've dropped my car today morning - no updates as yet. updated 10/25/17 *bf updated 10/27/2017*js updated 12/04/17*bf updated 7/20/18*jb *tr

As i was driving the vehicle sometimes goes like it was in neutral then the gear kicks in it feels like if someone rear ended you i have taken it to dealer but no fix yet

Vehicle stalled on freeway, gradual lost of power and came to a stop. tried to inch vehicle to the side shoulder to avoid traffic. called assist and was able to re-start van after a few times trying the push start button. drove straight to dealer but they gave no explanation. bought vehicle less than 30 days before incident occurred.

I purchased my 2017 chrysler pacifica touring l on 7/22/2017, everything was going great until mid august. my uconnect radio kept freezing, the engine ticked (stopped itself within a few weeks), the tailgate got stuck half way a few times trying to automatically close. it's just stop midway and i'll have to manually push it shut close. within later months (beginning around october) my began to jerk back every so often (about twice a week) while driving. it's happened at both high and low speeds so i'm not sure what the problem is. i've took it to the dealership service center multiple times but they don't have a solution or 'fix' for the problem. since they don't have a solution they won't do anything about it. recent month (december/january) the jerking is getting worse. it's beginning to jerk almost everyday, sometimes more than three times a day! i've been continuing to pay my lease for a car i'm terrified of driving. i've read so many horror stories of people pacifica's stalling while on the freeway. i refuse to have my family ride in what suppose to be a safe vehicle. i took the vehicle in for repair last week for the engine stalling and they still don't have a resolution to the fix. the day after i picked up my vehicle, while driving home that night it jerked back while going down a city main street. a few minutes later it gave me this message on the dash (image attached)

My car on occasion had been feeling like it was cutting out, i thought i got some bad gas so i switched stations and noticed it less. then about a month later, it just turned off in route. i was at a four way stop accelerated to go and it started out, i made it into the middle of the intersection and the car turned off. it gave a notice by steering column that it needs to be in park to start engine or something. it did it with about 13,000 miles on it. i was able to start the van after i put it in park with foot on brake and continue on. it happened so fast i was not sure what went wrong? now i read that many have had this happen as well. i am fearful now it will happen when i am going higher speeds, etc. this needs to be fixed!

Vehicle shutdown: as i approached a yield sign on a subdivison street, i slowed to a few mph before accelerating slowly again. the vehicle then lost power and steering (it shutdown). i looked at my dash and it read "vehicle must be in park to start." i applied the brake and stopped without being able to steer. i then turned the gear knob to park and restarted the vehicle and went on my way. i am thankful their was no traffic as this could have resulted in a serious accident...updated 10/30/17 *bf updated 11/13/217*js

I was driving on a highway (with my kids in the backseats) and suddenly (for no reason) the vehicle lost all electricity (including, power steering, engine, headlights, dashboard lighting). the dashboard only said "put car into park and restart." thankfully, i was able to pull over partially onto the side and restart the car after it was in park. (this happened a second time a few minutes later but in that case the electricity came back on itself after a few moments.) this was a scary and dangerous experience.....updated 11/03/17 *bf updated 11/09/2017*js

While driving our van it became completely uncontrollable at any speed greater than about 25 mph. van rocked and pitched violently and i am convinced it would have certainly caused an accident and likely flipped van if it occurred at 40+ mph. dealer discovered rear suspension had broken completely away from bracket. a complete bracket failure on right rear which allowed the whole right rear of the van to move independently of van. it was also discovered during inspection that the same bracket on the left side was cracked and also failing. the van is a mobility van and has been modified by a company called vmi. the van has been lightly used and has less than 9000 miles on it. i stress again that the van became completely uncontrollable without any known cause. i believe there is great chance of death or serious injury from this apparent defect. *tt updated 10/1/18*jb

Last night, while driving approx 40mph, our brand new 2017 pacifica ltd shut down. the engine suddenly, with no warning, just stopped. the dot above the 'd' (for drive) started flashing, and a message flashed: 'shift to p to start.' we came to a stop in the middle of the road. i put it in park and then was able to turn it back on. i had both hands on the wheel, so i never touched the starter button. the key fob was in my purse, which was not moved. thankfully we were not on a highway, so nobody ran into us. i dropped it off at the dealership this morning, and they just told me they cannot recreate the error. we've had it for about 2 weeks, and we've driven it 1500 miles, mostly highway.....updated 11/03/17 *bf updated 11/09/2017*js

I was turning into a parking lot and my 2017 chrysler pacifica suddenly turned off. the display said something along the line of "car must be in park." i had to put my car back in park and restart the engine. i was almost rear ended by another car who was not expecting me to stop. now that i am researching this issue, i'm finding that several other people have had this issue and chrysler has no idea why it's happening. i am terrified to drive my car now. what if this happens on the express way traveling at high speeds or while driving through the mountains? ..updated 07/20/17 *bf *cn
