In the past month i had experienced on two occasions, (while in motion and on a city street, specifically on the cross streets of dysart and camelback and a light at dysart and w. sonoma dr.) that when i engaged the breaks the vehicle failed to slow and i felt as if the breaks were not working and the vehicle was not going to come to a stop. in the same month, approximately a week and a half after the last incident, on december 18th, 2019, my chrysler, pacifica was involved in a motor vehicle accident. two vehicles in front of me came to an immediate stop. i applied the break but my vehicle began sliding and the abs system did not seem to engage. the accident occurred on litchfield and camelback. my insurance company is conducting an investigation on the accident currently. i feel that it is important that i disclose the problems i had noticed and was ultimately too late to discuss with chrysler. i do not want this issue to occur to anyone else.
2c4rc1gg4hr[xxx] braked at a stop light car started hissing and the brake pushed back and the car started to roll forward vacuum brake booster check valve issue consumer stated about 10 days ago i was driving my 2017 pacific on the road and trying to slow down n stop my vehicle but at the end it could not normal stop. when i engaged the brake pedal it gave the 'pressure' back to my feet and sounds like 'air brake leaking' it was very dangers cause there was a car in front of my vehicle. i pushed hard brake pedal to the floor and the car suddenly stopped. then i went to the peps boys repaired my cars brake pedal booster. when i did online research i'm not the only one vehicle owner has this safety issue. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tt*dt*jb
The peddle makes an air release noise, and will force my foot up preventing me from breaking. i could be sitting at a light and the vehicle will start driving forward with my foot still on the peddle making an air pressure noise. this happens everywhere i drive and have to stop, if i have to stop immediately i have to use my whole body to push the peddle down making a popping noise sometimes having to release the peddle and try breaking again. i've almost hit several vehicles due to no control of stopping.
We took a 7 hr trip in our 2017 pacifica on sat back home from vacation. the next day we drove to a local movie theater. we observed several warning lights appear for no reason. the next day the van would not start. both batteries are dead. we used a battery charge to charge main battery but it would only charge to 11,6 and will not start the van. we tried jumper cables. nothing will start the van. when roadside assistance came to tow the van to the shop the manual park release did not work and the rear tires were locked. something is seriously draining the battery as soon as you take it off the battery charger. something in the computer is sucking all the life from the battery. very frustrating since i just took the van into the shop a couple of weeks ago to get the fourth recall issue fixed.
While sitting at a stop light pressing the brake pedal down, the car began rolling forward. the car continued to roll until i was able to press the brake down to the floor, and it finally stopped rolling. the brake pressure built back up and the brake light came on. the car was towed to the dealership, the break check valve was replaced, but the brakes continued to malfunction. the dealership has the vehicle still, and has not repaired the issue.
1) braked at a stop light car started hissing and the brake pushed back and the car started to roll forward. service stated brake booster needs repair. 2) turning slow as in backing out of parking spot and there is a creaking sound. service states needs wheel hubs need replaced. car is 67,000 miles
The brake pedal becomes hard and a loud hissing air sound comes from the brake pedal. pedal also pumps on its own while at a standstill. brake booster is leaking vacuum. this occurs under all driving conditions and times of day.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. on several occasions, while the vehicle was stopped at a traffic light, the brake pedal was depressed and felt very firm. the contact stated that it was difficult to depress the brake pedal while attempting to stop the vehicle. the contact also stated that extra effort was required to slow down or stop the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact stated that the failure was intermittent. the manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 14,000.
The fcw doesn't seem to work all the time. the two years that i have owned it it has only activated maybe three times. but what i'm concerned about is the two times i really needed it it worked just the opposite it gave me no brakes and no warning and i had to turn onto the side of the road going around cars and when i replied the brakes they worked. luckily i avoided a crash and there were no obstacles on the side of the road. i have had it in twice for recalls and told them about it, nothing. since it just happened a second time i'm taking it to another dealer i have no confidence in a solution.tho. this van has about 46 minor non safety related problems.also. i had just turned off the freeway and the brakes took the cruise off but when i approached the stopped cars there was no brakes.and no warning to brake.and no car applied braking as required by the fcw system.as it is supposed to stop you.
I reported this earlier. but after some testing chrysler said that this problem has never happened before, but all you have to do is google it and you find many. i think my brakes have failed four times since i have owned it. the day i bought it in 2017 and three times in march 2019.twice moving and twice when i started it.it didn't finish starting but went to run???
Sometimes is giving parking brake sign and will not change when you turn the knob to change to another level .say from p to d and vice-versa. when you drive continuously that way, it drain out the battery. i can conclude that it has both electrical battery problem and the parking brake problem
The forward collison and advance warning active braking sysem is a farce. i have taken the vehicle to the dealer to have it worked on but to no aviail. i had an accident and there was no warning and no braking. at one time they suggested it worked but you needed to have the cruise control system on, although the two systems use the same forward camera they are separate systems. any driver that relies on this expensive system for any kind of aid is in for a deadly trutrh that the system is defective. i have repeatredly tried to test the system and i get nothing.
Wife was driving the vehicle and it shut off while approaching an intersection. vehicle shut down, gave warning that it must be in park before restarting.
Engine, lights, and all electrical shut off twice. the first time we were stopped waiting to make a left turn.we were able to restart it right away. the second time we were making a right turn off of a busy road onto a side street and got about half way through the turn when everything shut off and we were not able to restart it.this was scary and very dangerous fortunately the van rolled sufficiently to get off the main rd. we tried to push it further but with out electric we were not able to release the parking brake which turns on when the engine stops. we were finally able to start it with the help of a portable jump starter that we always carry in the vehicle. we took it to the dealer and they were not able to find anything wrong. i have no idea what the problem is but it involves a total electric disconnect that is possibly reconnected when an outside power source is introduced (jump starter) . i am afraid to drive it. i notice online several more of the same type complaints. the first was 12/26/18. the second was 1/6/19.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. while traveling 10 mph in the driveway, the brakes failed and the vehicle crashed into the garage. there were no injuries and a police report was not filed. the contact took the vehicle to koons automotive of culpeper (401 james madison hwy, culpeper, va 22701, (540)-812-2444) where it was diagnosed that the brake booster failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to call nhtsa to file a complaint. the failure mileage was 54,000.
Car was in motion, in traffic, using cruise control on a two lane highway. an attempt was made to accelerate and pass the slower car ahead. when accelerating to override the cruise control, the car decelerated and felt as though the brakes were being engaged. fortunately oncoming traffic did not approach before the car was able to limp back the lane. mullane motors serviced the vehicle to fix the problem. two days later the car again decelerated when applying gas to proceed, a warning flash appeared that said electronic throttle needs to be serviced. all this happened a few moths after we had our car to the dealership for the recall regarding the cruise control and two days after servicing to fix the deceleration happening as gas pedal is depressed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. while slowly driving out of a parking lot, the brakes failed. as a result, the contact crashed into the passenger side of a bus that was stopped at a traffic light. there was no warning indicator illuminated. the air bags did not deploy. a police report was filed and there were no injuries. the contact's vehicle was damaged and towed to a tow yard. the dealer was not called. the manufacturer was notified and ordered an investigation of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 11,200.
I was driving down the interstate at 70mph and all of a sudden the van told me to put it in park and restart the vehicle. as i'm sitting in the middle of the interstate in rush hour traffic and cars flying past me i discover i'm locked out of my own engine. the brakes were locked, i couldn't restart the vehicle, i tried opening my door, after the van came to a stop, to get the van to reset but nothing worked. finally the van allowed me to start the vehicle back up after several minutes of being stranded in the middle of the interstate. i had lost power steering and wasn't able to pull over alongside the shoulder nor could i brake or accelerate! i had to wait for the car to come to a stop and then had to troubleshoot why my engine locked me out in the middle of a 4 lane highway.
On tuesday 7/31/18, as i was slowing down to turn onto a neighborhood street, the electronic stability control active warning light came on, a warning that lane assist was unavailable flashed on the dashboard, and the blind spot sensors on both side mirrors turned on with a warning message that the blind spot assistance was unavailable. after about an 1/8th of a mile, i slowed to a stop sign and the brakes started to feel tight as if they were locking. the screen on the dashboard went blank and the gauge speedometer was not registering. i was able to make a slow left turn and then an immediate right turn into a driveway, but as i came to a stop the brakes were completely locked up and nothing was working as if the engine had turned off. i had to restart the vehicle twice for the dashboard to come back to normal. had u64 - reprogram powertrain control module and u50 manual park release recalls performed 7/25/18.
While going 40 mph and coming to a stop sign i took my foot off the gas pedal and coasted to 20 mph. i then applied the brakes. the car shook a shrieked. the engine was still powering the car even though my foot was not on the gas pedal, but on the brake. i shifted into neutral and was able to stop the car. the engine returned to idle. the vehicle has not repeated this problem. the vehicle just had the u64 recall performed. this was a on a 40 mph suburban road.
Brakes would go out when pressed more than 50%. was told it was the brake booster and it would have to be ordered from the east coast because chrysler had been ordering them a lot. if chrysler knows this is a common problem and the brakes can go out on a minivan full of kids, why hasn't this recall been issued? had to pay $500 just to get it fixed immediately. my wife panicked when the brakes went out and almost rear-ended a car at a stop light going 35 mph. *tt *tr
I called ramsey chrysler service in ramsey, ny to have them perform the repair for nhsta recall # 18v-395, since the pacifica was there for recall repairs nhsta recall # 18v-332 and 18v-049 . jason from service said there was no recall but chrysler and the national highway traffic safety administration said there is this recall and it is on both websites. jason wouldn't go into either web site to check. he said he has access to information "that i don't have". tariq from chrysler customer service was contacted and confirmed there is a recall 18v-395 (chrysler's recall # is fca-u50). tariq called ramsey and jason acknowledges the recall but refuses to fix it. tariq from chrysler customer service said my only option now is to go to another chrysler dealer. i need the nhsta to be aware that the ramsey chrysler dealership in ramsey, nj refuses to comply with the nhsta's recall directive. i ask the the nhsta act on my behalf to compel the ramsey chrysler dealership in ramsey, nj to perform the recall repair.
My girlfriend was driving my pacifica. she experienced the car jump and she described it as being hit from behind. then all of the sudden the vehicle forced itself to turn hard left and cause her to hit a box truck. she then bounced off that car and hit another vehicle. she said the brakes weren't working to good either. this car only had 11,186 miles on it. i have reported a similar issue of my vehicle jumping like it was pushed from behind or a jolt of power like the trans was slipping, only months into owning the vehicle. it was taken in and looked at more than once by my dealership, but they could not reproduce the problem, there were no codes, and therefore they couldn't find or fix the problem. now the problem caused a car accident and luckily my kids were not in the vehicle. the car air bags also failed to deploy even though it experienced impact on both sides at 30-35 mph. the front end was destroyed pretty good, so i am in shock the air bags were not deployed. now the dash indicates the air bags need service? after the accident the car would not shut down and 3 officers felt the car was malfunctioning. upon looking into my service records i noticed something odd. my "chrysler app" shows nhsta recall # 18v-049 as being completed according to the vin. but my last visit to my dealer in feb of 2018 indicated there was no fix available at this time. how can it show completed then? i realized that the issues she experienced, and my self, are similar to the symptoms in this recall. there may be another similar...serious issue, that has to be looked into. some type of malfunction caused this car to jump and drive right into another vehicle. this can be very dangerous if you put this same situation on an expressway going 55 mph+, especially if the air bags fail to deploy *tt
When ever driving down hill the brakes makes a loud noise (skipping thud sound) it feels and sounds like as the whole front suspension or brakes about to fall off the van. the other problem when turning the car at even at low speed when the road is wet the van suspension would make noise and tire wont grip. happens many time pulling out from my drive way when its lightly wet.
Three separate but related incidents: (1) when driving down a neighborhood street at under 30 mph the van suddenly lost the ability to go forward. pushing the gas pedal to the floor resulted in nothing. since the van was going uphill, it began to decelerate at a slow pace. after a few seconds, the van regained the ability to move forward normally. (2) the van was stopped waiting to turn left. upon pressing the gas forward and moving out into traffic, the van lost it's ability to move forward about halfway through the turn. in addition, a "thud" could be felt that felt like the van had been hit from behind. however, nothing hit the van. the loss of acceleration exposed to oncoming traffic. in 3 to 5 seconds, the van regained normal ability. (3) when driving down a busy street in traffic at around 20mph, the van lost the ability to move forward and a "thud" was felt as if the van had been hit. again, it hadn't been hit. after 3-5 seconds, the van regained the ability to drive forward. our suspicion of the cause has been the transmission. this is due to the "thud" feeling and the loss of moving forward. however, on two separate trips to the dealer, the cause has been diagnosed as "abs module in plant mode". the abs module has been replaced but it does not fix the problem. it does not feel like the van is trying to brake on its own as the deceleration in speed is extremely gradual. rather, it feels like a loss of ability to propel/accelerate forward. the van is extremely unsafe to drive as you never know when you will lose the ability to move forward (and thus out of harm's way). these three incidents have occured in less than 150 miles of driving over the past 3 weeks ending 5/30/2018.
After the parking brake is applied using the knob, the vehicle rolls to a stop - it never completely stops when you put it in park, it rolls a few inches forward or backward.

Our 2017 pacifica was repaired in the fall of 2017 under recall #t23 (egr valve function defect). now, our vehicle is experiencing the stalling problems described in the more recent u01 recall. the chrysler dealership refuses to apply the u01 fix to our car, stating that the earlier recall fix should have fixed the problem. at this time, the vehicle experiences intermittent stalls at low speed and at idle, and has slammed to an immediate stop if the issue occurs when moving. it is unsafe to drive.
The option to stop engine at a light or stop sign does not work at least 1/2 of the time. the engine revs up and wants to push us into traffic.
This van has staled on me 4 separate times now, twice putting me in a very bad area for a head on crash and 1 severe read end crash. i have had the van in the shop multiple times, this last time since 4th of march to current. 1st time i was driving about 30 mph on a main city street, pulled out of side street and the van just stalled. i have no power steering, brakes, nothing, by the time it stopped rolling i was in the oncoming lane of a very busy street. 2nd time i was dead stop at a light, the light changed and they van didnt move, had the pedal to the floor and nothing. 3rd time i was leaving my home, pulled out onto the country road on which we live, started up the hill, lost power again, took me in the oncoming lane, which if a car or truck came around the bend they wouldnt have tiome to stop[, logging truck was roaring up behind me, dont know how he missed me, all the time on his horn. i have talked with chrysler escalation dept. and they offered to do a buy back.. went to dealership today and what chrysler offered was 50% now on the buy back and the other 50% when they resale the van? the dealership wont except this offer. its unethical and unsafe and they want no part of this. chrysler is aware of the problem with no fix at this time. i am no getting back into that van nor do t i don't want to be their 1st fatality nor do i want to be one of their statics.
Stoped at a traffic light, the engine auto shut off like normal at a light, but when green light came and gas pedal was pressed, an alert popped up on dash saying parking was engaged. put into park and tried to release parking brake parking brake actually engaged. could not disengage afterwards, foot brake was held while attempting to disengage parking brake. tried turning vehicle off and on with no result 1st time. while engine on, tried to reset parking brake again, holding foot brake, no joy. drive selector would not switch to neutral in order to move vehicle off road. turned vehicle off and on again, then was able to reset parking brake to off and finally put vehicle in drive.
When backing up in a new poorly lighted parking deck, the safety braking system and back up camera with associated warning beeps did not engage. the resulting crash damaged the bumper, rear liftgate, rear window, and me.*bf *tr
While driving 60mph on i-55 on dec 26, 2017 with my sick newborn baby in the van my 4 month old 2017 pacifica stalled on me in the center lane of the highway. i was not able to press the brakes nor steer the car. i somehow managed to move over to the shoulder by jerking at the wheel i barely made it on to the shoulder and the van shut off completely and lost all power. i called roadside assistance only to sit on hold for over 20 mins. i then called the dealership back and they sent a private tow truck out to me. overall i sat for 1.5 hours before help arrived. i was extremely cold and afraid for our safety as semi trucks and cars swerved around me. the van was taken to the dealership and they are reporting that the alternator went out in addition to issues of several electrical codes that came up. again, this is a brand new van that i have only had for 4 months. i called fca on 12/26/2017 and 12/28/2017 to follow up and i am still waiting on a call back.
Pacifica stalling recall i am writing this email to inform you of an issue we have had with our brand new 2017 chrysler pacifica touring. leaving our in-laws the other day, which mind you is directly across the street, we got to the end of the driveway to stop and look both ways ;) and the auto shut off engaged. when we released the break the car never turned back on and but stalled and rolled into the street, park break engaged and left us in the middle of the road. we tried pushing the button to turn the car back on and nothing... the car was still on but not running and wouldn't start. after disconnecting the battery and reconnecting we were able to start the car but none of the gears worked... no gear would engage when turning the knob, the emergency park brake would not dis-engage. we disconnected he battery one more time... meanwhile still sitting t-boned in the middle of the road, waited about 30 seconds and reconnected at which time we were able to restart and turn the knob to low (no other gear would work and the park brake was still engaged, but it moved enough to get us out of the road and into our own driveway. we shut it off and called the dealership who towed it to their garage.they said they flashed the auto shut off feature and have not been able to replicate the problem. i feel it necessary to report this incident as it seems there have been many complaints of this vehicle stalling with no recall. i am concern this will happen again and maybe next time i won't be so luck to be stranded in the middle of the road on a slow christmas morning. please advise me as to where and what i should do next. i will be picking up the vehicle (which i love by the way) tomorrow and crossing my fingers. thank you for your attention to this matter. sincerely, [xxx] vin# [xxx] mileage 1200 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Vehicle shuts off while driving and cannot be restarted until it comes to a complete stop. vehicle has stopped running while slowing down for a light, it has stopped after getting off expressway and while driving through a parking lot. in the last two months it has stalled at least 10 times.
I purchased a brand new 2017 chrysler pacifica and was had 309 miles on the car when i had this incident. i was driving approximately 65mph in the left most lane when i suddenly lost all power to the engine, steering, and brakes and was unable to accelerate or brake normally. i used quite a bit of strength to maneuver the car to the right shoulder and nearly was rear ended by a semi truck in doing so as there was no shoulder on the left hands side. during this time period, all of the lights in the instrument cluster were flashing various warnings and failure symbols. i was able to get to the shoulder, shut off the car and restart it at which point the car was violently shaking and again giving many flashing warnings. i drove at a max speed of 16mph to a safer location off the highway at which point the car again stalled and stopped. the car was then towed to the dealer. ..updated 10/25/17 *bf updated 10/30/2017*js
Only a few thousand miles with the vehicle, the vehicle would make clicking noises as i turn the vehicle (doesn't matter left or right). dealer service dept checked and replaced defective right axle. at 10k miles, left axle failure. dealer service dept checked and replaced a broken left axle. this break also caused the e-brakes to no longer engage and while the car was in park no brakes were applied thereby allowing the car to continue rolling unless your foot was on the brakes or a block of wood is placed at the tire to prevent rolling. when i spoke to the service rep, he mentioned that front axle failure seems to be common in the pacifica. this nearly killed me and my family. thankfully we weren't struck as we got stuck mid left turn with opposing traffic speeding downhill. i do not feel this vehicle is safe and further investigation is necessary. had this had occurred while a car was coming downhill, in a busy intersection, or at high speeds on the freeway, we would have been in a major accident. we got lucky and i no longer feel safe driving my family in this vehicle. ..updated 10/30/17 *bf updated 11/09/2017*js
This car has had multiple stalls, whereas when driving, the engine will shut down and steering be affected. this has happened in the middle of an intersection with my children in the car. there are no warning signs that this will happen, the car just suddenly becomes inoperable. you have to place in park for 30 seconds and then restart the car. this car is extremely dangerous to drive. the diagnostic is a fuel pressure sensor, but further research indicates this is a widespread problem that chrysler may be aware of. ..updated 10/25/17 *bf

The vehicle has 950 miles on it, a rotatory gear shift know, and an electronic parking brake. at home i park the vehicle on a level surface. i do not engage the parking brake when i leave the vehicle. on quite a few occasions when i enter the vehicle and turn on the engine, the parking-brake light comes on and the brake is engaged even though i did not set it. for most occurrences, i can press the parking brake button, and the light will go off and the brake will disengage. however, on some occasions, pressing the brake button gives no response. if i turn the engine off and then back on, the brake then disengages. a few times i have had to turn the engine on and off more than one time to get the brake disengaged. a more series problem with the parking brake is that on several occasions the brake has suddenly come on while i am driving. this has occurred when i have started the engine and driven about 100 feet. it has occurred when i am moving forward and when i am backing up. the brake suddenly engages and brings the vehicle to an abrupt halt. on these occasions pressing the brake button gave no response. i had to turn the engine off and back on. 7/5 i stopped at a pharmacy drive-up window, and put the vehicle into park. after my transaction, i rotated the gear knob to drive, and the parking brake light then went on. i pressed the brake button multiple times, and the light would not go out. i then turned the engine off and back on. (to do this i had to have pressure on the brake pedal.) when i turned the engine back on the vehicle took off at significant speed, and i crashed into a street light pole. when a tow truck came to get the vehicle the truck operator found that the vehicle gear knob was in the park gear. he had a good deal of difficulty in getting the vehicle into neutral gear for the towing process. have pictures upon request. .....updated 11/03/17 *bf ..updated 11/13/2017*js ...updated 11/17/17 *bf *js *tr

Tl* the contact leased a 2017 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the accelerator pedal was stuck several times when applied, and the brakes failed to respond when the pedal was depressed. the contact applied the brakes with force and the vehicle surged forward. while attempting to coast over to the shoulder of the road, the vehicle swiped a metal pole. the front passenger side tire was impacted due to the failure. there were no injuries and a police report was not filed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer sent a technician to inspect the vehicle, but they were unable to provide a solution. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 738.
I purchased my new vehicle and inside of 2 months i had two major problems. i went shopping and when i arrived at my destination and tried to park the car would not shift into park. no matter how long i waited or slowly or quickly i turned the shifting knob it would not shift into park. the parking break was also behaving strangely and would disengage on it's own as i tried to troubleshoot the problem. i had to keep my foot on the break pedal to keep the car from rolling away. my husband and i decided to try turning the car off in the hope that the matter would resolve itself and that is when we discovered that the car would not shut down. no matter what we did it would not turn off or shift into park. we immediately drove to the dealership and dropped the car off since we had no idea what else we could do and it was a tremendous safety issue. today september 20, 2016 i experienced another electrical parking problem. while i was driving in very light traffic and a safe distance away from other cars the emergency breaking alarm went off. i was in the middle of crossing an intersection when the alarm started blaring and "break" flashed in large red letters. in my opinion there was no reason for that warning and i feel that this issue might be somehow tied to the other issues listed above. the first issues occured on 07-10-2016.
