Severely rusted sub frame under the engine. advised by repair facility that the vehicle was not safe to drive due to the rust damage to the sub frame. this was a hidden defect that i would not have had knowledge of if i had not purchased a safety inspection. because of this issue the vehicle failed a md safety inspection. advised that required repairs will be over $2500.

Unusual high amount of rust and holes in a frame failing nys inspection. auto is only 9 years old.

Discovered excessive rust on the subframe and underbody members after trying to diagnose a problem with the steering. specifically, a "clicking" noise had appeared unexpectedly during turning and the steering wheel had undue resistance while turning. after checking for tire problems and other issues, a mechanic diagnosed the problem as a subframe failure due to excessive rust. he mentioned that if the rust progressed too far, the engine could literally fall out of the vehicle while i was driving. this issue demands a recall. updated 09/15/15*lj updated 12/12/2017*cn

I was informed by another consumer that the front end and engine cradle, in my 2006 chrysler pacifica are rusting. this rust problem is causing the engine to actual fall out of vehicles. after hearing of this, i had two different mechanics check my vehicle. after both inspections i was told my vehicle is severely rusted and is not going to be safe to drive for much longer. the estimated time frame i was given is between 6-12 months. it was suggested that i drive local only and have it reinspected every three months for my safety. i contacted chrysler's recall center only to find out there are currently no recalls issued at this time for my vehicle and they do not expect there to be any. i called directly to the chrysler co. to hear the same thing that the recall center told me and that they have no intentions of helping people that are experiencing this problem. at this point i am unable to afford the high cost of repairs and will soon be out of a road safe vehicle.

Purchased car used with less than 85k miles. when i went to get it state inspected 1 week after purchase i was informed that the car is unsafe to drive due to engine cradle was rusted out. repair estimates range from $3300 to over $4000. the car is less than 10 years old and under 100k miles. no help from the manufacturer. many others with the same situation. this could be a potential life threatening situation for myself and my family. car is worth as much as the repairs. the manufacturer should be made to make this right. bad product. even partial help with the repairs would help. very disappointed in "american made".

Took my 2006 chrysler pacifica limited with 34,945, (garage kept, well maintained) to my chrysler dealer for a oil change, was informed that the front cross member is rotting, was advised to contact chrysler, 1-800-992-1997 to inform them regarding the rotting. i did contact chrysler spoke with a michael he did check and informed me that chrysler was only covering out of warranty for the 2004-2005 chrysler pacifica's for the same problem. i maintain that chrysler is responsible as well to repair my 2006 under recall as well, both chrysler and nhtsa are fully aware that this problem exists. i do understand that nhtsa has many complaints from 2006 chrysler pacifica owners for the same issue but nothing is being done by nhtsa, why is this, is it because no deaths have resulted? this makes my wife and i feel that it is not a safety issue, no need at the present time to have the front cross member replaced and we can continue to drive our 2006 chrysler pacifica. *tr

I recently bought a 2006 chrysler pacifica touring with under 87,000 miles. when i went to have the state inspection performed i was informed by the dealership that this car will not pass inspection due to the excessive amount of rust on the engine cradle. we were informed that the vehicle is not safe to drive and needs over $3,600 of repair work done. i am a single mother and can not afford that kind of repair cost. i find it crazy that a car under 10 years old should have this kind of rust damage. the visible outside of the car is in perfect shape, but the underside is totally corroded! when i started looking online to see if anyone else has encountered this issue, i was amazed at the number of other people who have encountered this same issue. this car is not safe to drive with my daughter, as one good pot hole could cause the engine to fall out and kill both of us or anyone else on the road around us. i will paying for years on a car i cant even drive nor in good conscience sell to someone else. i find it extremely disappointing that chrysler refuses to step up and do right by its customers. it will only be a matter of time until someone is killed by this car. *tr

Just took my 2006 chrysler pacifica in for annual nys inspection as was told it failed due to severe rotting of the main engine cradle and it was a serious safety concern. this came as a total shock as the car has shown no other rusting of any body parts and has been a mechanically sound vehicle until this point. the mechanic showed me underneath the car and the other under carriage components are in acceptable shape, only the cradle is rusted through. i drove it to the local chrysler dealer and they said that this problem is known by chrysler and that i should call chrysler and report the problem. the dealer estimate for repair was $4400.00! i called chrysler directly from dealership and after some review i was told there was nothing that could be done for me!! i now have a junk vehicle with no resale possibility and i cant afford a $4400 repair nor can i allow my wife or myself to drive it without the repair being done as it is unsafe. please help me get chrysler to step up and fix the cradle as i have seen massive amounts of similar comments online about this issue and people are being put at great risk! chrysler has repaired this issue at their cost for certain 2004 and 2005 pacificas....i maintain they are responsible as well to repair my 2006 under recall as well!! they are fully aware that this problem exists! *tr

there is a hole in the frame of the car due to rust, it is approximately 2 inches around located near the passenger front tire. a chrysler dealer has documented the hole, but states the car is not part of a recall. chrysler has recognized the unusual rusting in the frame and issued a recall for some of the same model cars built over just a few months, mine was not built during this time and therefore did not qualify for the recall. chrysler does not recognize the danger of this situation. i called to file a complaint and they stated they would only document it and let me know if there was a recall.. *tr

With only 50512 miles i was notified by my service agent that the car front sub frame is rusted through and risking collision or engine falling out causing personal injury or death. this problem has been reported several times and is well documented over the internet.i contacted chrysler and got "sorry we cant help you" for a response. *tr

The car wonders right and left. inspection at repair facility revealed alignment cant be performed due to a severely rusted or rotted out front k-member subframe (engine cradle). *tr

Went in to my local mechanic for an oil change. i was informed by the mechanic that the bottom of my car rusted out. the areas of rust and corrosion encompassed the cradle, frame rails and chassie. he quoted me $4000. i am going to drive it over to the chrylser dealer on april 1st for an evaluation and explanation. *tr

Today i was told that the engine cradle of my 2006 chrysler pacifica with 125214 miles was rusted out and needs to be replaced, will not pass nys inspection. online i read that chrysler is only are covering the 2004 and 2005 models. this is a extreme safety problem just like the defects in the 2004 and 2005 that chrysler needs to cover. *tr

Took my 2006 chryslar pacifica in for an oil change and the mechanic informed me that the engine cradle is rusted out and not safe to drive. the front frame has holes that are six plus inches long in multiple places. *tr

The sub frame and engine cradle are completely rusted away! the vehicle was purchased new, garage kept and dealer serviced. the engine sub frame and cradle is rusted and gone from the vehicle. this is so unsafe! car sub frames never rust away. chrysler is placing peoples lives in jeopardy! profit over lives. please take some action on this serious life threatening issue. *tr

When getting oil change mechanic pointed out front frame (engine cradle) rust. frame rusted through. not safe to drive. *tr

I have a 2006 chrysler pacifica touring edition with less than 115,000 miles on it. the car runs flawlessly except for the sub frame rust corrosion that has eaten away the engine and car support underneath my car. i have read continuously that this is a common problem with this type of vehicle. my car is unsafe to drive and i fear i will get into an accident while driving it. i will be taking this car to chrysler in paramus, nj to find out what can be done on my behalf. are there any recalls out there, or manufacturer warranties covering such major repairs. i am not in a position to purchase to new car right now. please help.

Went for annual ny state inspection, that got a call from mechanic to see under the car. front engine cradle was rusted with holes and metal peeling off on the touch. car did not pass inspection and engine cradle has to be replaced. it is not safe to drive.i was advised to contact chrysler since they have seen many pacifica's with the same problems. after talking to chrysler customer service was told that they are aware of the problem but that they are sorry that they can not help since they have issued a recall but just for limited number of cars manufactured in 2004, since my car is newer it is not covered in that recall. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while the vehicle was being serviced, the technician discovered that the engine cross member and the front passenger side frame were corroded. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 88,000.

I am the owner of the car and was told by my mechanic that the entire engine cradle is rusted / rotted thru and that the car is now unsafe to drive. chrysler has issued an extended warranty of 10 years or 150,000 miles (whichever is 1st) for 2004-2005 but not for 2006, apparently i have the exact same rot & rust issue (so it was never resolved at chrysler) but a less accommodating warranty to fix and address it. *tr

My "subframe" broke off of the rear of my vehicle on both sides. when i backed out of a driveway, it sounded like i hit something, there was a clunk in the rear of the vehicle. later that day, someone told me my rear wheels looked like they were tilting in. not long after that, my daughter happened to be driving behind me and called and said there was a big metal thing hanging down under my car and my rear wheels were tilting in. i went to a local mechanic and it appears that it rusted and broke. the garage is currently looking for parts/repair information. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while having maintenance performed, the technician notified the contact that the sub-frame was corroded. the technician recommended the sub-frame to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 96,000.

I was performing a complete brake job on my vehicle and noticed that the engine cradle on my vehicle is rusted out. i don't mean surface rust, there are actual holes in the engine cradle. i feel that this is a major safety issue. i contacted chrysler and all they can tell me is that my vehicle is out of warranty. i find it totally ridiculous for chrysler not to stand behind their product. this is my no means normal, i own a 1965 thunderbird with not a bit of rot on the undercarriage. what the hell is chrysler and/or the nhtsa waiting for to recalled and repair these faulty vehicles , someone to die first ? your agency will have someone's blood on you hands also if someone dies in an accident caused by this defect.i am beginning to think that chrysler is paying you guys off or something. all this brings to mind the fiasco of the chrysler 2.7l engine that failed in thousands of vehicles due to the poor design of that engine. no recall was ever forced upon chrysler for that debacle and i am beginning to think the same thing will apply here also. people spend good money for these flawed vehicles then when something happens the nhtsa and chrysler both basically say the hell with the consumer. there is no way the nhtsa can believe that an engine cradle rotting out in 8-9 year and in a lot of cases less time than that is acceptable. i thought that your organization was here to protect the public and see that these type of things don't happen.please explain to me how and why chrysler is getting away with this. ohhh, i know, no one has died yet !!! *tr

Upon taking my car in for a routine inspection today i was made aware of major subframe damage and holes and rust. it has apparently been this way for a while and i was more than likely sold the car this way from the dealer who didn't correctly inspect the car yet still put passed stickers on it. now my car is unusable and worthless condition unless i pay out of pocket the whole cost of replacing the subframe. i am very upset to read now that a lot of other pacifica owners have the same problems but chrysler has yet to issue a recall and very rarely compensates their customers. the dealer is also denying any wrong doing on their end and said the car was not this way a year ago. i have signed statements from the auto body shop saying this is years of damage gone unnoticed and fixed. i am very upset and now with out a family car for my 4 kids and have no way of getting a new car and cannot trade this in now due to the severity of the damage. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the subframe was completely corroded. the dealer stated that the subframe needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 127,000.

We have always had the car serviced at the chrysler dealer and on this oil change were just informed about the extensive rust on the engine cradle. did some research on the internet and found out that this is a common problem with chrysler pacifica and that chrysler has extended the warranty on only a few 2004 and 2005 models. i called chrysler and they refused to help with any repairs saying that my vehicle was outside the extended warranty models. there is a large rust hole in the engine cradle on one side and extensive rust on the other side. *tr

We bought our 2006 chrysler pacifica from the original owner with 110,000 miles i think. the inspection sticker was new and now a year later our entire engine cradle is completely rusted through and wont take a sticker whatsoever. there's no way this kind of rust is normal and when i went online i saw that this is a recurring problem on these cars and a new cradle is 2,500 without installation this is chryslers fault we always washed the car during winter months at the carwash. we bought this car because it had the room great safety features and now i find out its a accident waiting to happen and we gotta eat this cost. im going to our local newspaper because this isn't right and chrysler only helped with cost on so many cars and the same engine cradle fits 04,05 and 06 pacificas so all these cars should be covered because there is obviously something wrong with the material they used. any help on how or who to contact i know were not alone i this complaint. *tr

Rusted engine cradle $3000 repair told how dangerous it is for my family to be in this car. i just bought car for my family. im a single parent living paycheck to paycheck and now im supposed to fix this piece of [xxx] chrysler built? *tr information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Front sub frame rotted out by lower control arms called chrysler hq they will not cover unless it becomes a recall. *tr

Took vehicle to mechanic for oil change and was told the subframe and motor mounts were badly rusted and that i should contact the manufacturer immediately. *tr

A mechanic, while changing the oil on my 2005 chrysler pacifica, informed me that the subframe is rusted badly and is a major safety concern. i called chrysler and was told that chrysler did extend the warranty on the engine carriage and acknowledged that the subframe was inadequate in terms of handling road salt. but then they revised the extension of warranty to include only cars manufactured after feb 23, 2004 and before march 31, 2004. while such a limitation? my vehicle, according the chrysler customer service person on the phone, was build on aug 25, 2004 and therefore falls outside of the covered time period. the bottom line is that my car has a rust problem with the subframe and this is a major safety issue. i did some research on the internet and it is clear that this is an issue with pacificas made in 2004 and 2005. chrysler should cover the cost to replace the subframe on my vehicle. *tr

Took vehicle in for lube oil filter and service tech had me come in and look and the rusted frame.quoted $1800 for a used frame to replace. i seen other complaints on line with the same problem and i am hoping to get some help with repair cost. *tr

The engine frame cradle is rotting out. the engine and transmission could potentially fall out of the vehicle. i contacted chrysler and they stated that if it was a 2004/05 they would cover the repairs but not a 2006. this issue appears to be a common. *tr

While having normal oil change, frame was found to have rust holes with rust coming from inside. by digging deeper found that many other cars in years 2004-2007 have the same expensive repair problems. also, a major safety problem as this can cause a failure of front end components. no recalls or fixes from chrysler. would like to find out why not on this major problem. *tr

My wife has a 2006 pacifica with only 52000 miles on it and the engine cradle is rusting out. you can clearly see holes right through it. we use this car as a family vehicle to transport our 3 children around. we bought this brand new and loved it until this. these cars are built like garbage and are sold for top dollar. why hasn't chrysler recalled this? are they waiting for people to die? this is a serious problem ! maybe if some of chrysler's executives drove these vehicles and put their families in them, the problems would be resolved. shame on chrysler ! so much for buying american huh? i have never bought a import ! i always was proud driving american made cars! basically this car is meant to fail ! i am not so proud now... that's for sure! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while having routine maintenance performed, the independent mechanic discovered that the engine cradle was corroded. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 71,800.

Car has rotten sub frame that cradles engine suspension! in looking at chrysler complaints this appears to be prevalent in all the sub frames. my mechanic has welded in metal in place of rot. this sub frame is responsible for suspension of the front end and cradles engine mounts. there is no way a car design should allow for failure of such a critical job after 89000 miles and 8 years. these cars need to be recalled and or removed from the road before there are unnecessary deaths. *tr

I took my 2006 chrysler pacifica for new tires and a new york state inspection. the mechanic had the car on the lift and told me the engine cradle sub frame was rusted/rotted out and that the vehicle is unsafe to drive. the vehicle is 8 years old and has only approximately 55,000 miles. the right and left sections of the engine cradle sub frame where there is welding are the only sections of the frame that are rusted/rotted out to the point where you could stick a finger through the rotted out section (can provide pictures if needed). i contacted chrysler's national customer support and was assigned a case number and told to take the vehicle to a locate dealership for digital imaging that would help chrysler determine if it was a factory defect or alternatively owner caused. i did as instructed and was told a few days later that the frame rot was not a factory defect but rather owner caused. the chrysler dealership provided an estimate of repair of approximately $5,000. after a brief internet search, i realized this is a common issue with the chrysler pacifica and is a safety issue that the pacifica owners like myself and the general public have not been made aware of. per my mechanic and other government departments that i have discussed this issue with, if the engine cradle sub frame were to give out while the vehicle is driven, a serious and potentially deadly accident could occur. needless to say, the car will not be driven by my family until repaired as i won't risk the potential consequence. i'm filing this complaint with the hope that at minimum pacifica owners are notified of the potential for frame rot to proactively reduce the chance of the inevitable accident. also, i am disappointed in chrysler for not taking responsibility for this issue as other car manufacturers such as toyota, hyundai and ford have when presented with similar safety issues. *tr
