Recently reported STRUCTURE problems on 2005 Chrysler Pacifica

Purchased a 2005 chrysler pacifica from private party. was not told about frame being rusted right through. went to drive the car and could not drive. was so scared and i was not safe. brought to mechanic and was told engine cradle was rotted and the car was not drive-able and is not safe. i called chrysler and they refused to pay for the part to be fixed. i live in a high salt band state in ny and it should be covered as the letter that was sent out in 2011 stated it should have been covered. now i have no vehicle and it would cost over $4500 to be fixed. chrysler should have to recall these cars and fix the problem. we can die from this huge problem. the engine will just fall out of the car. i am really hoping that nhtsa will do something about this. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the subframe was rusted and corroded. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the subframe needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 182,000.

I have a 2005 chrysler pacifica touring and i took it to the dealer to find out the engine cradle is rotted. i did some investigating and this is a know safety issue with the 2004 and 2005 chrysler pacifica's. chrysler refuses to help in this issue. they really aren't standing behind the product. *tr

We bought our 2005 chrysler pacifica from a private seller ... two days later we brougth it into the shop to get a mysterious clunk checked out and found the engine cradle was almost rotted away. after owning the vehicle for not even 48 hours it is now unsafe to drive, i called into chrysler customer service because i saw a recall that at one point covered this model and i was told, " i aplogize but there is nothing we can do". my question is ... if at one point this vehicle was not safe to opperate because of the engine cradle rust problem, what changed to exclude this model? i have plenty of pictures that show i should not be driving this vehicle with my children in it. *tr

I recently had some work done on my chrysler pacifica and my mechanic found that i had two large rotted out holes in my engine cradle. i called chrysler and the gentleman in customer service stated over and over again that my auto was ten years old. i went to go use the warranty that i purchased at cars 4 you, llc and found out that the dealer never submitted the application for the warranty but pocketed the money from the finance company. honor finance knew what the dealer had done to few people but did not feel the need to warn everyone who bought an auto from the same dealer. here i am with a pacifica that i owe 6,000.00 no warranty and two large holes in my engine cradle. never ever will i buy a chrysler product. their motto is customer satisfaction is priority one but this must be for the first ten years only.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would jerk and hesitate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the failure was due to damaged motor mounts and severe rusting of the subframe. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 114,000.

Told my car unsafe to drive....subframe rotted out! chrysler admitted it was their fault but will not help me unless i sign a waiver of agreeing to pay for any repairs that they cause while fixing this major issue. i was not comfortable signing and now they won't help me. not sure what to do next. this is a horrific mishandling of consumer rights! i have only had the car for 6 years and put 50k miles on it. these cars should be recalled now before someone gets killed driving one of them. *tr

On routine inspection, discovered subframe / carriage nearly rusted through. told it was unsafe to drive. while a small group of owners received notice of this design defect in 2010, we were never notified and a call to chrysler confirmed that despite selective recall, this car not eligible for compensation or remediation. *tr

At 90,562 miles felt vibration under uphill load. dealer evaluated and serviced trans w/filters and fluid with no result. (see scan 0008) went on to install new torque converter with no result. (see scan 0009) took car in for tune-up, and mechanic saw that engine cradle was rusted through on 1 side about 18". took car to dealer for damage documentation and estimate of repair (see scan 0010) classified by dealer as major defect that will soon make the car road unworthy. my intention was to keep the car for at least another 80k miles.

My 10 year old chrysler pacifica has rot in the subframe. my mechanic informed me during a routine check. *tr

I was just informed by my mechanic today that the engine cradle in my 2005 chrysler pacifica is corroding. the cradle has to be replaced. i did a little bit of research on this issue and found that chrysler issued an extended warranty for some 2005 pacificas, but not others. apparently, the process used to coat the piece was insufficient, which has lead to corrosion problems in an unknown number of vehicles. my vehicle was not included in the extended warranty, but i feel it should be, because we are clearly having the same problem as others who have been covered. in addition, this is a serious safety issue that should be addressed. we were told that the engine could fall out of the vehicle, which obviously could cause a serious, if not fatal, accident. i don't know what filing this type of complaint can accomplish, but i would hope that chrysler can be made to take responsibility for this safety issue. i would also like a response from the nthsb so i know my voice was heard. thank you. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the vehicle's frame was rusted, which weakened the motor mount. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine cradle needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 70,000.

The front subframe is severely corroded. it could fail at any time letting the engine drop. *tr

Took our 2005 chrysler pacifica in for oil change and they informed us that the engine cradle is rotting out and that our engine could fall out and that would result in a bad accident. we called chrysler and they would do nothing!!! we found out that many other people who own this same car had the same problem on the internet because the chrysler manufacturer of this car did not coat the frame correctly when it was built. this was chryslers mistake when this car was made and it is no fault of the owners that purchased these cars to have this terrible costly and dangerous problem. this should be under a recall but it is "not" and now it will cost us $3000.00 to have it repaired to make our car safe. we are the original owners of this car and it has always been keep in a garage. there is only 4800 miles on this car and this should never have happened. we are retired on a fixed income and this put us at a hardship. we feel we have to have this repaired to protect us , our family and other people on the road. we feel this should certainly be addressed and that the chrysler manufacturer should recall and stand behind all 2005 pacifica cars. many people who own this car might never know this is happening and it is dangerous to have these cars on the road as this could cause a serious /fatal accident to many people! help! *tr

I'm was driving my 2005 chrysler pacifica when i noticed that my car had been shaking , i brought it to a independent automotive shop , the problem the mechanic stated was that the sub-frame/engine cradle was rotted with rust , and wasn't safe to drive , bc the engine could literally fall out , i did some quick research on the issue , and to my findings this seems to be a problem for many people , with 04-05 pacificas , i found a letter that other people posted from chrysler online that stated ,that 04-05 pacificas warranty would be extended to 10 year or 150,000 miles which ever came first , i contacted chrysler in reference to this letter , they recognized the letter , but claimed my vehicle wouldn't qualify, because it does not meet the dates from 2/23/04-3/31/04 of manufactured, there are thousand of complaints that are on line from people in the same situation as me , this is completely a safety issue , the risk people are taken ,some don't even know that your engine could literally fall out , at high speeds this could result in death or serious injury . *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while having maintenance performed, the independent mechanic notified the contact that the sub frame and engine cradle was severely rusted and needed to be replaced. the contact notified the manufacturer. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

While changing oil i observed that the frame had corroded and there were rust holes in the frame. i contacted chrysler group customer care and was told there is no recall for this on my vehicle. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while at a local dealer for service, the technician made the contact aware that the subframe had corroded and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 160,000.

Friend of mine had an issue with pacifica where motor just fell off while she was driving. i took my car to the shop and found something i did not had idea what was happening with my car, undercarriage corrosion too. *js the bottom is just paper thin, everything is rotten. i have 115,000 miles on my car, 2005 pacifica. i cannot believe that car looks fine from outside but engine cradle was rusting out to the point you could almost put hand in the hole. it rusted to the point that the engine could fall out. i cannot believe there was no recalls on this car. they will start dealing with issues when drivers start killing themselves on the highway because they lost an engine at 70mph.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the sub frame rusted prematurely to the point of corrosion. the contact mentioned that the sub frame might fracture. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the sub frame needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 141,000.

I was having my oil changed yesterday and the technician pointed out a badly rotted and cracked subframe on the passenger side. the subframe is only rotted and cracked on one side and in one spot which leads me to believe this is due to a manufacturer defect. i have contacted chrysler and was told there is no recall and then my call was disconnected. *tr

Rusted out engine cradle. i took my vehicle in for a oil change. the tech told me and showed me the rusted out engine cradle. he also informed me not to drive this vehicle any where but home.since the dealership was a few miles away i drove it there for an inspection. after a day without a vehicle, the dealership called to tell me it would cost around $2700.00 or more to replace the rusted out engine cradle. no why am i going to pay that kind of money on a vehicle that only has 60,000 miles on it.i called chrysler customer service, gave them all the information. they would not cover any of this due to i am the 3rd owner( whatever that has to do with it!) and its out of warranty! the second owner was my step dad who bought this vehicle at the dealerships used car lot where i took it to get it inspected. even this dealership would not work with me.i feel that chrysler should pay for this repair on a vehicle with only 60,000miles on it. *tr

I was doing my oil change, when i noticed that my engine cradle was rusting through. i immediately called, both local chrysler dealers, was told that although chrysler is aware of the problem i was not covered. i called chrysler directly, it was explained to me that although my state is listed in the extended warranty, but because it was originally sold in a state not listed, i was not covered. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the front subframe was detaching from the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the subframe needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 115,000.

I took my vehicle in for routine nys inspection and was told it wouldn't pass due to the bad subframe. the mechanic showed me the problem and i couldn't believe that the vehicle that i bought thinking it was a safe dependable vehicle was rotting out from underneath me! i've always performed required routine maintenance on it as i am a single working mother and need a safe reliable vehicle. i'm caught between a rock and a hard place because i can't afford to pay the $3,000 to fix it, to buy a new vehicle or to be without a car! i still owe on it and i can't drive it! is there anything you can do to make chrysler make this right? *tr

I purchased this car new in 2005. it has 140,00 miles on it. this week my wife took it in for a oil change and they said the motor is ready to fall out as the engine cradle is rusted out. they said the cost to fix this was $3-$4 thousand dollars. we don't have this kind of money and it's the car my 16 year old daughter drives 22 miles to school. i have resurched this issue and it's one that you are aware of and don't seem to care about. after the gm issues i'm disappointed that you have not made owners like me aware of this. does someone need to get killed before you force chrysler to recall these? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while having routine maintenance performed, the independent mechanic discovered that the front end of the sub frame had rusted and corroded. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 115,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph, the steering wheel vibrated and was loose. the vehicle was taken to a independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the front sub frame was rusted. as a result, the struts and the sway bar links were replaced but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was unavailable.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that there was a loud abnormal noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the front sub frame was corroded and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

Rusted engine cradle. known issue by many pacifica owners. alot of owners complaining via internet. am sure you have received hundreds of complaints for this rusted frame issue where the engine can fall out while driving and killing passengers. chrysler is aware of the issues and never notified owners of this vehicle and the aforementioned problems. *tr

Engine cradle rusting out on passenger side. no help from dealer or chrysler customer care. they have known about this problem for some time. so many of these vehicles are still on the road and people do not realize they are driving a death trap. cant imagine what would happen at 70 mph and the engine falls out. *tr

My 2005 chrysler pacific has a frame that is rusting out the motor holder . just wondering if you can help me on how to get it take care of by chrysler ? *tr

Subframe (engine cradle?) is rusting. my mechanic pointed this out when i was having my oil changed. it is not visible unless you crawl under the car or lift it up in a shop. i contacted chrysler and they told me that the car is out of warranty and that they will not cover the cost of replacement. researching this issue on the web, i see that this is a common problem for this model and that in some instances chrysler has covered the costs of having this fixed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. while an authorized mechanic was performing a state inspection on the vehicle, it was discovered that the engine cradle and front subframe were corroded with holes. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 112,000.

Went to the dealer for a routine oil change and was told that the subframe on the vehicle is rusted out and will need to be replaced. apparently this is quite common with these vehicles. the dealer i took my vehicle to actually gave me pictures of the subframe and it showed cracks and holes in the subframe. something needs to be done with this. i do not mind paying for maintenance, but i believe this goes far beyond maintenance. *tr

Engine cradle/frame assembly is severley rusted. this was detected by conrad's located in green, ohio 10/23/14 when servicing the vehicle. it is verified by duanne's automotive center, north canton, ohio 10/25/14. chrysler never sent me a recall notification for the rust condition. it was a recall item. it is very dangerous. it is costing me in excess of $1200.00 (parts and labor to install used cradle assembly - new is not available for purchase) to replace. *tr

Upon taking car in for routine nys inspection was informed of severe engine cradle rot. estimated repair $4000. car has less than 114k miles and is only 9 years old. i cant afford to repair and even though i have opened a case with chrysler they are not willing to help me. chrysler admits issue when they offered extension of warranty on 2004 and 2005 models but refuses to issue a recall or fix the problem at their cost. owners are stuck with a costly repair option . chrysler should be addressing this safety issue . *tr

While having my oil changed my mechanic called me over to show me the rusted engine cradle. i have researched and have found this to be a problem with many chrysler pacifica 2004-2005. i contacted chrysler and was told there was a recall but only for vehicles built from feb 2004-march 2004. if so many people are having this problem then why is it such a small time frame? the same issues still apply to the vehicles manufactured outside that small window. is the safety of the consumers whose vehicles were manufactured during that month time frame more important than the hundreds of people who have evidence of the same rusting of the engine cradle? when i purchased this car, i did so for safety and quality and now feel like both are lacking. *tr

Unusual rusting of the frame and underbody of the car. *tr

After getting a routine oil change the dealership told me that my engine cradle (subframe) had a hole in it about the size of a grapefruit. it was rusted through. the engine could fall out. contacted chrysler and they will not fix the problem. the car drives terribly. this is extremely dangerous and should be recalled. *tr

Rust through of engine cradle at various spots on engine cradle. i'm the original owner. the car had 92,080 miles. contacted chrysler/fca via email. chrysler/fca says my pacifica does not fit the narrowly defined manufacture date of 02/28/2004 to 03/31/2004, even though chrysler form letter csc-10045080-7364 makes no mention of the narrowly defined manufacture date!. my pacifica was purchased on 1/26/2005 and therefore does not qualify for extended warranty coverage per chrysler customer assistance. my local fca dealer gave me an estimate of about $ 2600 to replace. this problem was noticed during a routine oil change recently. i reported this issue to chrysler back on october 2014 email case #3052329, reference number 25794408, and they state not covered, that my car was apparently built on august 2, 2004 per chrysler email response? chrysler letter csc-10045080-7365 regarding the front engine cradle problem does not stipulate a specific 6 week period. unable to get any assistance from chrysler/fca i continued to drive this unsafe car. brought to mechanic for oil change, tire rotation, and general maintenance and was informed again that the engine cradle is rusting through and now the motor mounts. car now has only 95,544 miles. contacted them prior to expiration of warranty and pushed off and off.

I have been informed by two different auto mechanics about substantial rust on the sub-frame at the front of my vehicle. for a 9 year old vehicle this is unacceptable and a safety hazard. *tr

The entire undercarriage in rotten, including but not limited to the motor mount and lift points are completely rotted away. i was told it is very dangerous and should not be driving this vehicle but i still owe 7k. *tr

I purchased this vehicle not to long ago. then when having my brakes done, my mechanic pointed out the huge rust holes in the engine frame of my car. he said it wasn't safe to drive the vehicle because the engine might fall out. i contacted chrysler but the said there was no recalls on the vehicle. *tr

Was told by my mechanic that the car would not pass inspection as the front sub-frame that holds up the engine has major corrosion and is a safety concern. checking the internet confirms that my cars condition is not unique. chrysler does have a recall out for this model and this condition but it is only for vehicles in a six week manufacturing window and my vehicle does not qualify. it should. cost of repair i was told by the dealer is $4,100 plus. part alone is $3,870. this needs to be investigated by your organization please. this sounds like the toyota tundra pick-up frame issue. same problem. *tr

I have just performed routine (10/03/20014) maintenance on my 2005 chrysler pacifica. the mechanic called to inform me of significant corrosion problem with the cross member (cradle) that supports the engine, transmission, front suspension and steering. his visual inspection, as well as mine, showed more then 75% of the passenger side cradle rusted away. an open case # 25736224 has been established by chrysler customer support. my pacifica was produced september 30, 2004 which is outside of the assembly dates established by chrysler for extended warranty coverage. failure of the cross member (cradle) would cause loss of steering, engine and transmission failure, and severed brake lines. because this is a major safety issue it should be repaired by chrysler corporation. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while servicing the vehicle, the dealer discovered that the cradle on the passenger side was completely rusted. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was unavailable. the approximate failure mileage was 107,000.

I have maintained this vehicle extremely well. no visible rust on body, vehicle appears to be in excellent condition. i took vehicle in for routine maintenance and the technician stated that the engine cradle and passenger side sub frame is nearly rusted in half. i was shocked because it is not my primary winter vehicle, and salt exposure is minimal. the technician explained that it is not safe to drive the vehicle because of the risk of drive train falling out when the engine cradle fails to support the engine and transmission. also, the car could break in half if the sub frame fails. how can a vehicle that has been well maintained, looks and drives like new, be unsafe because it isn't structurally sound. the vehicle is driven only about 10000 miles per year. an online search revealed that this is a known issue on this make/model. i cannot understand how this vehicle is not recalled. i have been driving this vehicle, thinking it would keep my family and i safe. this is very dangerous, and millions of people are undoubtedly driving chrysler pacificas that are not structurally safe. i hope that the nhtsa will investigate this. *tr

Went for routine state inspection and was notified that the subframe has significant rust on the passenger side (engine cradle). this vehicle only has 125,000 miles on it and the subframe should not be rusted out. have called chrysler and although they issued an extended warranty in 2010 which included my vehicle they have since refined this to vehicles made in a 6 week window in 2004. my vehicle was made in june 2004 just a few weeks outside their window. it is obviously a bigger problem as there are tons of similar complaints - rust on the subframe on the passenger side (see full list of complaints at nhtsa and all over the web). this needs to be addressed asap by chrysler. it has left me and my family in a very difficult situation - never mind the safety problem i have exposed my family to over the past year. *tr
