Recently reported STRUCTURE problems on 2005 Chrysler Pacifica

Chrysler 2005 pacifica has significant engine cradle and other undercarriage rust issues. today at my auto repair shop i took several photographs of the rusted engine cradle, undercarriage and other suspension areas with heavy rusting. called chrysler care 1-800-247-9753 and they kindly told me there was nothing they can do to assist in the repair cost. numerous reports online of repairs being selectively reimbursed by chrysler. how many complaints are required for a recall to be issued or is a class action developing for this issue. thanks. *tr

Car failed inspection because of rusted out engine cradle (undemember), *tr

When taking the car for an oil change, it was pointed out that our engine cradle was very corroded and rusted through. we have since discovered that this is a known issue with this year, make, and model of car. however, our car was manufactured outside the very narrow range of dates for which an extended 10 year, 150k mile warranty on the engine cradle was made available. the body shop has quoted us $4000 to repair the vehicle, and said the car is very unsafe to drive in it's current condition. given that this issue is so common for this car, it is only a matter of time before someone is killed driving one. chrysler should be forced to issue a recall on all 2004 and 2005 pacificas in order to repair this problem before it is too late for some family. *tr

9/23/14 took my pacifica to shop to have ac fixed once on the lift they informed me that the subframe was rusted out and my car was unsafe to drive. so scared to drive vehicle, i was informed that it would cost 3000. to 5000 to fix. i don't have that kind of money being retired. chrysler informed me that my car was not built between feb. and march 2004 so they wont cover it. how ridiculous is this that they don't stand behind there products. are they waiting for someone to die from this error. *tr

My pacifica 2005 started making popping grinding noises while stopping and taking off plus while turning. i called chrysler and was told that it was the axle gasket and that it was safe to drive but to take care of the problem quickly. well come to find out it was a rotting subframe. there is a recall for this issue for 2008 and up. i called chrysler back and they said sorry wrong year. i could have killed my family because of this issue that chrysler won't admit too. i only have 82,400 miles on my car. *tr

Went to get my 2005 chrysler pacifica inspected and was told the front sub-frame was rusted through. *tr

The cradle that holds the engine is rusting away. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while the vehicle being serviced, the technician informed the contact that the engine cradle was severely rusted. the technician stated that the cradle needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 128,600.

Rusted/rotted subframe/cradle. *tr

The subframe under the engine is rusting out badly.i don't know how much longer i can drive this vehicle. *tr

I took my 2005 pacifica in for an oil change and routine maintenance and the mechanic discovered the subframe of my vehicle is rotting and rusting away. he said that this could be a potentially dangerous situation. upon doing research, i've discovered that chrysler is doing nothing to fix the situation. *tr

While replacing a set of tires at a local shop, the service manager informed me of a rusted engine support frame. he also stated the danger of the engine falling out of the vehicle. the vehicle has been well maintained at the local chrysler dealership with maintenance and inspection reports every 3000 miles. never once has this rusted frame been reported at the chrysler dealership! the last service report during an oil change stated, "checked over everything looked ok". the dealership has reported other maintenance and repair issues but never this one. is chrysler trying to hide this potential safety problem? i've been a long term owner of chrysler products and never had a problem with a rusted-out engine support. the car currently sits in our garage with my wife refusing to drive the vehicle because of the potential safety issue. *tr

I took my car in today for an oil change and was told that the engine cradle was severely rusted and unsafe to drive. the repair would cost $2700. i called chrysler customer service for assistance however my car was built august 18, 2004 and not during the time of the extended warranty was issued for cars built feb 23 - mar 31, 2004. i have the same issue as the cars built earlier in the year, however, i am out $2700. why isn't this extended to other pacifica's built in 2004 with the same problem? *tr

The sub frame under the drive train has rusted out to the point that it has little or no structural strength, this has essentially rendered the car inoperative and unsafe to operate. the car has barely 100,000 miles. *tr

Engine cradle rusted through. still holding engine however, hearing a popping noise when placed in gear. mechanic stated vehicle not safe to drive. have owned since 2005 and now not able to drive it. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle began to shake and vibrate. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who discovered severe corrosion on the subframe and engine cradle, which needed to be replaced. the mechanic stated that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in the manufacturer's recall. the recall number was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 146,875.

I have a 2005 chrysler pacific that has about 100,000 miles on it. in august of 2014, i took the vehicle to the chrysler dealership in downers grove il on ogden for an oil change. once they had the vehicle up on the rack, they saw extensive sub frame rust damage and told me that soon the vehicle should not be drivable due to the sub frame that is rusted through and deteriorating. this is premature engine cradle rust failure. they said it was a costly repair and that chrysler wouldn't cover anything because it was out of warranty. this is not acceptable, i have taken very good care of this car and the mileage is considerably low. i have also spoken with chrysler and opened a case with them but they said they will not cover any repairs because my vehicle was built a few months after the range that they are fixing. *tr

Tl* the contact own a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated the engine cradle was perforated due to rust. the vehicle was taken to a independent mechanic who confirmed the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 130,000. the vin was unavailable.

Just took my 2005 chrysler pacifica to my mechanic today, 08/19/2014, and found my undercarriage to be rusting. i was told that it would last only about 1 more year. our chrysler pacifica only has about 109,000 miles on it. it is going to cost well over $3500.00 to replace the undercarriage. i am a disabled veteran, and am on a fixed budget. these costs are taxing myself and my wife, and eating up our savings. we need help to find out if chrysler would be willing to help us out with the cost of fixing our vehicle, or at least meeting us half way. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the vehicle was being serviced by the dealer when he informed the contact that the entire sub frame was severely corroded and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 103,235.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated while servicing the vehicle, the dealer advised that the entire sub frame was severely corroded and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 103,235.

I have a 2005 pacifica. the car was in for body work, when a mechanic noticed severe rusting on the frame. he stated that the engine, could fall through the body frame! i did a google search and found hundreds of complaints about the problem. there is a story from a tv station in florida covering this story. http://www.nbcmiami.com/investigations/some-chrysler-pacifica-owners-say-they've-had-dangerous-corrosion-problems-with-the-popular-minivan-243624441.html. this is a engineering failure according to my mechanic, who stated they did not included enough drain plugs. my daughter drives this car and i contacted chrysler and they say it is past the warranty. this is unacceptable an engine should never be able to fall out of its mountings!!!!!! *tr

The engine cradle has collaped and the motor has dropped about 3". it will be falling out of the car soon due to corrosion on this part. this is the exact part that the 2004 had issues with. the car is now unsafer to drive and needs an estimated $2200 repair. there is an apparent design issue as this car is in excellent shape otherwise. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while servicing the vehicle, the mechanic discovered that the engine cradle was severely corroded and fractured. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000.

I just received a call from my chrysler dealer telling me my engine cradle has rotted out and there was a recall on this but my vehicle is not included in the build dates covered by the recall. in exploring for more information on the web i have found this is a known safety problem with these vehicles and people are basically driving around in time bombs. can you help me here and get chrysler to own up to this problem? the cost to me out-of-pocket will be $4500. *tr

While having routine maintenance performed on my vehicle, the technician noticed that the engine cradle and sub frame were corroded and fractured. the vehicle was not repaired and the technician advised it was unsafe to drive. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. we were advised that chrysler is "not participating' in assistance for covering rust damage to engine cradle extended warranty. the failure and current mileage was approximately 84,500. *tr

I recently took my 2005 chrysler pacifica in to have the air conditioning system repaired and the mechanic called and told me that the engine cradle was rusted out and the car was not safe to drive. i did a quick google search and discovered that this is a known problem with pacifica's. according to the information that i found, chrysler originally distributed a letter indicating that it would cover 2004 and 2005 models only to send out a later letter drastically reducing the number of cars that would be covered on the extended warranty. it's apparent that this is a widespread issue. in 1998 ford recalled 2.6 million vehicles for a similar issue. chrysler should follow suit and do the same thing. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact was driving approximately 55 mph, the front passenger side tire began to wobble without warning. an independent mechanic stated that the frame was rusted and the engine cradle needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

I took my car to the shop to fix a hub bearing and pulley and was informed by my mechanic that i have a serious problem with my frame, he informed me my frame is rusted and i am in a lot of danger driving this car. he informed me there was an article to look it up online about this issue being a problem with this make and model. i was not aware there were so many articles about this make and model and this rust problem. i cannot believe chrysler knew about this problem and never contact me to warn me of this problem, in which can cost me my life and my family. this is about a 2500.00 job that i feel chrysler should be responsible for. please let me know how i can be helped with this situation. *tr

After taking our 2005 pacifica to a chrysler dealership to be looked at for rattling and knocking noises in the front end and complaints of the car sounding like it was going to fall apart, especially when driving over bumpy roads; i was advised that the engine cradle, subframe, sway bar links and frame bushings needed to be replaced due to rust and corrosion. the cost would be between $3000.00 and $4500.00. we were advised the car was very unsafe to drive. we asked the dealership to take pictures of the front end when they put it up on the lift. when we received the pictures via email, we were horrified by what we saw. we were grateful that we were not involved in what could have been a tragic accident had we not taken the car in to be looked at. we wondered why this happened as we have 3 other cars older than this car. they have been inspected and do no have this problem. after some investigating we have found out this is a common problem with this vehicle, year and make and chrysler is well aware of it, they have no plans to do a recall or advise owners of the problem, or at least not until there is a fatality or some horrific accident due to this faulty product chrysler is putting in their vehicles. we have lost all faith in chrysler.they must think very little of human life. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. while inspecting the vehicle, the contact discovered that the engine cradle was severely corroded and fractured. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 86,000.

Returned from mechanic on a maintenance issue, i was told that i need to replace my "k frame" , the front engine cradle was rusted, needs to be replaced as quickly as possible- unsafe to drive. i read multiple complaints on this website for same issue. i hold a copy of an extended warranty which only covers vehicles made in a 6 week time period for the same issue, my pacifica was made 8/16/04 has become ineligible. i was lucky my garage told me others may not be so lucky, an inferior product that was used more than just in a 6 week time frame. *tr

During routine maintenance, discovered severe corrosion to engine cradle. potential is there for catastrophic failure of the engine cradle, causing a collapse. technician at dealership recommended no longer driving vehicle, stating it was unsafe. car is otherwise in excellent condition, having been garaged and carefully maintained throughout its lifetime. this is a potentially serious safety hazard. no notification was provided to me by chrysler that this should be checked. my research shows that chrysler has been aware of this issue for years but they are refusing to assist with replacement of engine cradle. a letter was drafted by chrysler covering certain 2004-2005 pacificas within 10 years of purchase or 150,000 miles. my vehicle falls into this category, since it is less than 9 years old, and had 100,000 miles on it at time of discovery of corrosion. chrysler states my vin does not fall into the range of vehicles that are covered. chrysler also covered vehicles in "cold weather states", which is the range of states we live in. *tr

Brought my vehicle in to my trusted local repair shop for a review and tune up and request to review rotors due to vehicle shake. when on the lift, it was discovered that the entire engine cradle was rusted to a point where it was barely attached to the vehicle. initial technical service bulletins published (12-001-10 in oct 2010) state that this condition could affect all 2004 - 05 pacificas. it was later superceded by the current bulletin 13-001-12 dated march 16, 2012 which limits affected population to an ~6 week range of vins, which my car does not fall under and i have been told that i am out of warranty. comparing photos to other complaints as well as the story on nbcchicago.com (see reference story below), my vehicle condition and the material defect is undeniably the same as what chrysler is currently considering as the "affected population" and is at a point where my vehicle has been considered unsafe to drive. this condition is extremely unsafe and i have been met with 4 months worth of arguments and side stepping from chrysler customer care at this time regarding acknowledgement of the material defect, the safety implications to myself, my family and other drivers of this model, and especially the $2,600 quote to replace the cradle and hardware at a chrysler dealership, which effectively scraps my vehicle. i am aghast that all of the complaints filed for this condition on this site and elsewhere have not resulted in a more through review of this clear trend from the nhtsa. references: http://www.nbcchicago.com/investigations/minivan-owners-want-chrysler-to-concede-rust-problems-241535881.html. *tr

My mechanic has informed me that the sub frame that holds the engine on my 2005 chrysler pacifica has extensive corrosion and has a hole in it the size of a person's fist. he said that the corrosion protection was obviously inadequate and could be a safety issue if i were in an accident. he said i will have to replace it and it will not be an inexpensive job. he said their should be a recall because this should not happen. apparently there is no recall. *tr

My local mechanic was looking for a recurring rattle in the front right wheel area, and asked me to look at the corrosion on the front subframe. he commented that he knew chrysler had a known problem with this frame and that he also knew that chrysler is unwilling to cover the cost to repair this inferior portion of the vehicle. the internet is full of others who have also experienced the same problem. i am asking nhtsa to intercede with chrysler and encourage them to cover the repair of this potentially fatal flaw in their product, and have a recall issued for all models with this problem, and not the narrow one month manufacturing window that chrysler seems to think is adequate to cover with an extended warranty. *tr

While getting oil changed, mechanic noticed perforation rust and cracking due to corrosion on the engine cradle. while chrysler had a recall on selected 2005 pacifica for this issue, i contacted their customer service line and was told my vehicle was not covered by the recall. with mine being the same year and showing the exact same problem as was covered in the recall, i think this repair should be included in the general recall. *tr

Front engine cradle there was a letter sent by chrysler back in november of 2010 that "we are extending the warranty period on your front engine cradle because some vehicles operated in areas of high road salt usage, may experience engine cradle corrosion resulting in a driveability vibration and or shake. this engine cradle extended warranty coverage applies to chrysler pacifica model years 2004-2005." i have called chrysler twice and was told that my car is not in the serial number range and i just paid over $2450 to have my car repaired. *tr

The subframe in my vehicle is rusted out. chrysler acknowledged this issue due to possible subframe failure that could cause a catastrophic failure which could lead to an accident. extended warranty was issued for 2004 and 2005 models of my vehicle and those were repaired. i have the exact damage listed in the acknowledgement that came out in 2010. however i am told that because my vehicle was built in october 2005 i am not covered. i meet all the criteria listed in the acknowledgement for a replacement. no where in the letter does it state what month your vehicle was built in to be covered by the warranty. the fix for this issue is costly to the consumer. i have made several calls and sent several emails to chrysler in regards to this matter and have brushed aside with basically "sorry about your luck". *tr

While getting a safety inspection of my vehicle it was discovered that there is considerable rust on both sides of the engine cradle. after doing some research i found that this is not an isolated issue and then contacted chrysler customer assistance center and was told that my car was built outside of an extended warranty that was given to other 2004 & 2005 pacificas for the exact same issue. after much checking i was told there was nothing they could do. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the engine block was corroded causing the engine to become unstable. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician diagnosed that the under carriage needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the current and failure mileage was 137,000. the vin was unavailable.

The 2005 chrysler pacifica is known for the sub frame rotting causing a un-safe condition where the engine could fall out. i took my car to a local shop and they said my frame is all rotted out. i took my car into chrysler and it turns out it is not covered under a recall or extended warranty. what worries me is how many others are on the road with the same condition. *tr

I was driving on the highway going about 55 (mph) when i went over a pothole. after that my car started making a rattling noise. my mechanic checked the car and said it was the rack and pinion but then he discovered that the whole engine cradle was rusted and corroded and told me it was very dangerous for me to drive the vehicle until i made the proper repaired which is replacing the entire engine cradle. *tr

The 2004-05 chrysler pacifica subframes are defective, they rust and corrode to the point of being unsafe to drive. this has been an issue that been reported to the nhtsa before. a twenty year old car's subframe should not rust and corrode to the point that the engine could fall out, much less a nine year old car like mine and many others who have reported this. found out chrysler first offered an extended warranty of 10yrs 150,000 for people who live in high salt usage states, such as minnesota where i live. my car qualified so i called chrysler and the guy said take it to the dealership and they will take care of it under warranty. took it to mckays family dodge in st. cloud and glen ertl lifted it up, took pictures for chrysler to see, and then told me my car wasn't under warranty. in the process of lifting my car up mckays somehow broke my motor mount which i was told later by my regular mechanic and it now made a clunking sound when i accelerate and feels very unsafe to drive. glen told us to "prove it" that he had broke it, very good business practices. called chrysler back and they told us it was a new employee who told me it covered under warranty but it actually wasn't even though i was holding a letter from chrysler saying all 2004-05 pacifica's under the criteria i mentioned above were qualified for the repair under warranty. this is a dangerous problem that many others have reported and it needs to be addressed. thank you for any help you can offer. *tr

Had vehicle in for brake service. technician showed me (with pictures) the problem with the engine cradle rusting out in multiple locations. in my research of this issue, i found numerous other incidents of this problem with little or no assistance from chrysler. this is a huge safety issue and could lose the engine at any time causing possible severe injury. would like chrysler to step up and get the recall out to all pacifica owners. *tr

I live in pennsylvania where the winters are harsh and salt is used. i went to get my car inspected and it failed do to rusted/holes in the carriage and rusted/holes in the rocker panels. i found an article online http://www.nbcchicago.com/investigations/minivan-owners-want-chrysler-to-concede-rust-problems-241535881.html so i contact chrysler as well and spoke to two different people and was told my pacifica was outside the time frame as well. can you tell me why 2005 pacifica's are listed as having the problem if they time frame is in 2004. my car was made march 18, 2005 so it is not eligible. i ask why not??? i am having the same issue as the other "time framed" vehicles. is my life not as worthy as the "time framed" lives??? i think this is all a bit ridiculous. i believe chrysler needs to fix this problem before someone gets hurt. having the carriage of your vehicle rust through without even knowing that its doing it is a safety issue!! if i'm expected to keep my car up for safety reasons then why is chrysler not expected to fix a problem they know if wrong no matter what the "time frame". i would appreciate someone contacting me asap. i am not working at this time and do not have the money to come up to get this fixed. i took it to an autobody shop and was told that to get the carriage and the rocker panels fixed it would cost me $3066. so why am i the one who has to come up and fix chrysler's problem that they know is a problem and refuse to fix because of a 'time frame'. by the way when i asked to have them reconsider and have someone look into my problem i was told a decision was already made and we aren't responsible. who is going to be responsible when my car rusts in half and i happen to drive it and it just falls apart? thank you *tr

I took the vehicle into the shop because after charging the a/c, the vents were still blowing hot air. after being looked at, i got a call that there was over $3,000 dollars of work that needed to be done! the subframe is completely rusted out and the vehicle is unsafe to drive. i only purchased the car a little over a year ago. i contacted chrysler and was told that since i am the 3rd owner, they would not pay for any of the repairs that need to be done. absolutely ridiculous. the car isn't even worth much more than $5,000, i can't put $3,000 into it! tired of getting the run around from chrysler. they know they have a mistake floating about out there, but will do absolutely nothing to make it right! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while being serviced by a private mechanic, it was found that the engine cradle was extremely rusted. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 103,000.

Undercarriage corrosion as reported by other owners. *tr

Engine cradle completely rusted out. discovered during inspection. mechanic says the vehicle is unsafe to drive in the current condition and the engine could possibly fall out! *tr
