We have classified the 137 complaints from 2005 Chrysler Pacifica about ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING into the following categories.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving at various speeds the vehicle stalled without warning. the dealer replaced the idler control motor but the problem persists. *ak when the gas gauge reads a half tank, the needle would drop. the dealer replaced the sending unit, fuel level module. *jb
About a month and a half ago, my chrysler pacifica 2005 started to have a couple of probably related problems, one of which can be dangerous. the car will stall when turning left. if a car is coming up behind me, i could get rear ended. the other problem is that my fuel gauge will show a half tank one minute and almost empty the next. when i have filled up, it would only take 15 gallons, meaning that there are still 8 gallons left. i have an appointment in one week with my local dealer and hope that they can fix this, as it is potentially dangerous. *jb
I bought a used car and it have a damaged muffler and the dealer won't fix it for me and i have three kids and i am afraid that this problem could lead to a fire and i don't have the money to fix it my self please what should i do. *jb
I was making a low speed left hand turn when my 2005 chrysler pacifica limited stalled. no accident occurred but i understand this has been a frequent occurrence with the '05 pacifica. *jb
Driving a 2005 chrysler pacifica, i have been dealing with the engine stalling while driving. we have owned the vehicle since jan 06 and today was the third time this has happened. i was making a left hand turn at a stop light during rush hour traffic. i made the turn when a break in traffic came up. while in the turn the engine stalls leaving the car unsafe in the middle of the intersection. contacted the chrylser dealership they are unaware of any known problems with the pacifica engine stalls. *nm
Dt*: the contact stated while turning left at various speeds on four separate occasions the vehicle stalled without warning. upon inspection the dealership was unable to duplicate the problem. the manufacturer was not alerted.
Purchased an 2005 pacifica june 10th. was back in the service department 3 days after purchase with check engine light on. service supposedly repaired problem but after 1 week noticed vehicle misfiring and check engine light back on. took it back service replaced a part (not sure what) and reset light. as of today this makes my 4th trip to service department with same problem. check engine light. the mechanic said today it failed the emissions test and he can't figure out why. i left it there and took a rental, but now it kind of feels like i have bought a problem. (check engine light). *nm
Car stalls at low speed turns to the left. on the brake, off the gas pedal. does not sputter just shuts of in turn with no warning. in the shop 5 times unable to repair it. happened over 20 times since car was new. close calls of hitting objects. *nm
Sharp turn to the left the motor shuts off. *jb
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle stalled six times while making a left hand at 3-5 mph. the vehicle restarted when the shifter was placed in neutral. the vehicle has been to the dealership twice and each time they could not duplicate the problem. the dealership informed the contact that chrysler was aware of this particular problem. there is an ongoing investigation, nhtsa item number: rq06002 concerning the engine and engine cooling system.
I purchased the vehicle used in feb 2006 and it had approximately 17500 miles on it. shortly after purchasing the vehicle, i went on a trip with the family to florida and this is when it first incident occurred. the first time that it happened i didn't really think too much about it. i was pulling into a parking space and the car had cut off. the car rolled to a stop and then i noticed that the car had cut off and i restarted and didn't think too much about it. since then the car has cut off three times with my wife driving the car. this has occurred over the last three months and the last incident was on may 23, 2006 and i was sitting in the passenger seat when it happened with her. the last occurrence was scary because it was when we were making a right hand turn and another vehicle was coming. luckily the vehicle had room to go around but under other circumstances this could have been serious. i called the dealership to make an appointment to have the car looked at because the last thing that i want is for my pregnant wife and kids to be involved in an accident because the car stalled while turning. after reading complaints from this website, i read that in a lot of instances in the other cases that the dealerships could not find anything wrong with the vehicle so i called chrysler customer service to inquire about this on may 24, 2006. i spoke with customer service representative polly and she said her customer service number was hqd. she researched the problem and said that chrysler did not have any record of complaints regarding this problem and referred me to the dealership. she also stated that she could not provide me with any phone numbers to senior management of customer service because that was proprietary. *jb
I have a 2005 chrysler pacifica and on 4 different dates it has stalled while driving. it occurs when i have went through a round-about twice and once while slowing down to stop at a stop sign, the 4th time is while sitting in traffic at a light. *jb
Vehicle stalled while turning into parking spot at low speed. power steering was lost at that time making it difficult to maneuver vehicle. when vehicle was placed into park, i was able restart the vehicle and safely park. *nm
Typical driving pattern/habits, yet when running the 2005 pacifica awd model touring edition on the freeway, within 2 miles at 65 mph, the engine/transmission would "shudder", then the engine would partially increase rpm's by 200+ and decrease by 200+ rpm, then act as if the fuel was cut off. i selected the 3 and 4 gears with the shifter to see if it was the transmission, but no difference between those two gears as to the amplification of the problem. the "shuddering" was the same intensity. i had to put my foot on the accelerator pedal to keep the engine running. after pulling off of the freeway and driving back to my home, the engine stalled/stopped at an intersection doing the same 200+/ 200- rpm business. i have taken the vehicle in for this particular problem, where the technicians could not figure out the situation. in discussions with chrysler(after 1.5 weeks of having the vehicle!!!!), the service manager determined with chrysler that an injector replacement and an injector cleaning was due for this engine. the wagon has 16,000 miles on it. i believe injectors last well up into the 100,000 mile or 1700 hours of engine time, not 266 hours. at this time the unit is still in the shop for a total of two weeks time. *jb
I have owned this vehicle since june, 2005. as i am driving, suddenly and without warning ,this vehicle has stalled in the lane of driving. this incident has happened to me three times in these 11 months. the dealership cannot find a computer code to identify the problem and will not do anything to fix this problem. *jb
Shut down engine while driving. *nm
1) driving the first time, and sitting in park the second time 2) chrysler 2005 pacifica stalled out for no reason, but was able to restart the car. luckily the first time i was driving in a parking lot and not on the road 3) local dealership has no idea what the problem is and cannot replicate the problem. *jb
2005 pacifica touring was leased in july 2005. since then, the upgraded infinity sound system has required repair twice and regularly makes a loud popping sound. the abs warning light came on signaling a failure in the anti-lock brake system march 2006. i scheduled an appointment for march 30, 2006 to repair the abs system and on my way to work, i needed to turn left, put my foot on the brake, and the car suddenly sped up instead of slowing down. a few weeks prior, we slowed down to make another left turn and the vehicle stalled and shut off completely. i had leased the pacifica for 36 months, and last week when the abs system failed and my car sped up while braking, i took it back to the dealership and demanded that they get me out of that vehicle. i was able to terminate my lease and purchase a jeep vehicle (the dealership sells jeep) because after i read dozens of consumer complaints, reviews from nhtsa and consumer affairs about the safety issues of this vehicle, i couldn't, in good faith, put myself or my child in that vehicle ever again. not only would driving the pacifica put our lives at risk, but that of others. i could not live with myself if i knowingly operated a hazardous vehicle and hurt someone as a result. push for a replacement. you'll get one!*jb
Dt*: the contact stated without warning, at various speeds, the vehicle stalls. the vehicle is pulled over and restarts. the dealership has seen the vehicle twice for this, but is unable to determine a problem.
Vehicle has stalled/lost all power twice when making a slow left turn - once in the neighborhood and the other in a busy intersection. 6,574 and 8,639 miles. service has been unable to determine problem as they have not been able to recreate or confirm the problem.
2005 chrysler pacifica stalled 6 times while turning left. i took the car to the dearship 5 times. dealership says can not find anything wrong, but can find that the computer did reboot. meaning that the car did stall, he said. i have three small children under the age of 6. i have a great fear for the safty of my family. this car is not safe to drive. something must be done. i feel stuck. please can some one help. *tr
Low speed engine stalling on 2005 chrysler pacifica. three times in 14 months. occurred while turning left in each case. no help from dealer, no response from chrysler. *nm
Vehicle stalls during turns. usually this occurs when turning rapidly. has occurred since the vehicle was new and still occurs 1 year later. otherwise vehicle runs and smooth. when a stall does occur, is happens without notice and very quietly. *jb
2005 chrysler pacifica noticed loud engine tapping after a couple thousand miles after purchase. checked oil and it was about 2.5 quarts low. i had the oil changed, all was fine.. drove another 2000 miles, checked oil and 2 quarts low again. had a dealership look into it and they said they found no leaks. was told 2 quarts in 2000 miles is not normal. they said it would cost me $2000 to tear into the engine and find the problem. i guess i should top off the oil and trade it in. *jb
Entering a busy parking lot, after making a sharp left hand turn, the suv stalled and died. this was not the first time, it has also happened to my wife twice before. *nm
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 30 mph on normal road conditions, the front passenger side door opened. the door was locked but the door light that signaled the door was open was illuminated. this was the first incident with the vehicle, which also have had an engine that stalled. the engine failure light alerted the contact for the engine problem. the abs light also alerted the contact for the brakes failure; the sensors were replaced. the dealership had honored the extended warranty but the contact was very upset because of the six times the vehicle had to be taken to the dealership.
I have a 2005 chrysler pacifica awd 3.5 liter and it will stall while in traffic if i turn left at a slow speed. i have had this happen to me and my wife while in traffic. i have taken it to the dealership 2 times, and they don't know what it is. they are pretty much guessing. this is a safety issue because 1 day someone will be stalled in front of a big truck and that won't be good.*ak
I purchased a 2005 chrysler pacifica in feb 2005 and it was used with 25,000 mi i had only had the car 10 months when i went to crank it one morning and it would not start unless i gave it gas or pumped it before i tried to crank it. if i let it sit over night or for a couple of hours it would not crank unless i pumped the gas took to dealer said i had to pay for repairs b/c i had no warranty b/c i had hit my 36,000 mi so a friend at another dealerships ran a diagnostic for me and it was at that time my map sensor still have not gotten it repaired and the dealership is and will not help. *jb
Chrysler pacifica stalls all the time. *jb
2005 pacifica 3569 miles has stalled 5 times when turning left every time with the exception of once it stalls twice in the same day, causing a loss of power steering.*jb
Consumer 2005 pacifica touring engine power failed. *ts ***no answer required*** *jb
Vehicle engine stalls without any warning at all. this has happened several times, always when turning a tight corner. engine starts normally once stopped. *nm
While making a left turn, the engine stalled on my vehicle, leaving me stuck with oncoming traffic approaching. this occurred at night and the shut down caused all lights to go off, steering and braking were reduced. i was able to restart only after putting the car in park and turning the key to off. this failure put me in a seriously unsafe position. i have read reports online from other owners of the chrysler pacifica experiencing this same problem. i had a half tank of gas, the engine was warmed up and i made no maneuver out of the ordinary. *jb
Vehicle stalled while making a left turn. was unable to make left turn due to power steering shutting off as well as engine, ended up stalling in middle of intersection. *nm
On 19 october 2005, i had just completed a left hand turn and came to a somewhat abrupt stop at a stop light. after the light turned green, i hit the gas but the car would not move. i noticed that i lost my power steering for the steering wheel felt heavy. the dashboard lights were on but i did not notice any warning lights on the dashboard. the cd player was still playing nor did it pause when this occurred. uncertain as to whether the car was off or not, i turned the key to the "off" position and restarted the engine. the vehicle operated properly after the incident. however, i became concerned about driving on the highway at higher speeds fearing that it would happen again. *jb
Engine stall while performing turns. my wife has been close to be involve in an accident in the last couple times. the dealer says they can not do nothing until chrysler investigates the problem. maybe chrysler is waiting until someone gets involve in an accident to resolve the issue. *nm
On the chrysler pacifica 2005 model, when the gas is below half a tank, when stopping or making turns the engine will stall. this is very hazardous as when the engine stops there is no power steering or power brakes. i was within inches of hitting another car. i took the car to the dealership and this is a known problem, but no solution. i believe this is a very dangerous problem and needs to be fixed as the number of accidents this can lead to is large, especially for smaller people that may not be able to muscle the steering when the car stalls. please get chrysler to do something about this as soon as possible as it's not safe to drive my new expensive car until this is taken care of. *jb
Dt: the contact stated vehicle stalled twice. she was able to restart the vehicle. after two attempts the dealer was unsuccessful in locating the problem. the manufacturer was contacted, but offered no further assistance. *ak
Last sept my wife and i purchased a slightly used 05 pacifica. one week later my wife experienced the first stall while turning into a parking lot. i contacted the dealer and found that there are thousands of similar complaints and chrysler would have a solution by dec 05. we have since had around 7 stalling issues with this model, usually turning at low speed or backing up. after several calls to chrysler and the dealership, we still have no answers. the dealer is trying to wash their hands of the problem and continues to direct me to the manufacturer. chrysler will not admit to knowing the problem exists. i have a pregnant wife and a five year old riding in this vehicle and i'm concerned that this stalling problem will occur while driving in traffic and could potentially be harmful to my family. *nm
Three times during the last 4 months the engine has shut down while i was driving. i am always driving slow, with my foot off the gas pedal while making a left turn. *jb
The vehicle has stalled four times in the last five months while turning or going around a bend in the road. fuel levels at the time it stalls are varied. we no longer feel safe driving the vehicle in traffic. the vehicle could potentially stall and cause a serious accident. dealer service acknowledged that multiple pacificas have been brought in for this issue but there was nothing they could do since chrysler had not acknowledged the problem and had no fix. this is unacceptable for any vehicle regardless of price. *jb
Brand new 2005 pacifica with 140 miles and again at 612 miles. engine stalled at low speeds turning into either parking space or parking lot. put in park and re-started. could not immediately duplicate. after first incident service manager at dealership stated that the car was "learning" my driving style. said if it happened again to call back and schedule service call. will be on the phone with service manager tomorrow. *jb
dt: the consumer owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the vehicle stalled for no apparent reason. this incident occurred while decelerating and braking. there was no prior warning before this incident. the consumer put the vehicle in park and restarted the vehicle. the vehicle restarted properly. this was the first time this incident happened. the vehicle has automatic transmission. the dealership said there where no codes shown. therefore, the dealership would not do anything about the vehicle. she was scared to drive the vehicle because she had three children. the vehicle had less than 3000 miles on it. she was traveling 55 mph before slowing down to make a turn. *ak *jb
My 2005 chrysler pacfica stalled in the parking lot of my friends house. this is the second time this has happened. the car is brand new (got it in may) and there is only ~5000 miles on the vehicle. both times the car stalled at low speeds (parking lots) while turning, and my foot was not on the gas pedal. first thing i noticed was the power steering was out, then eventually noticed the car was not running (stalled). saw a recall on 04 pacificas for a similar problem, brought the vehicle to the dealership i bought it at and they could not find anything wrong. brought it in a second time and they made an adjustment to the throttle. *jb
Car stalled on 3 different occasions. all three times occurred while making a slow left hand turn. when this occurred, the power steering, and brakes failed. was able to restart the vehicle after putting it in neutral. *nm
Dt: on 8-6-05, there was an electrical problem. there was a fuse in the incorrect spot. the dealership fixed the fuse problem. on 8-12-05 the steering wheel froze and the vehicle turned off. the consumer was in traffic when this occurred, but there was no accident. he was able to get it to start back and drove it home. he had it towed to the dealer, and they could not find the problem. the consumer got the vehicle back from the dealership and he has not driven it since. he does not feel that the vehicle is safe to drive. *ak
2005 chrysler pacifica engine stalled on two occasions.***no answer required***. *mr *jb
While traveling north on i-5, at corona, ca, on 23 july 05, at 70 mph, the engine on my 2005 chrysler pacifica, quit. all power suddenly ceased effecting the steering and brakes. i was able to guide the vehicle to the side of the busy highway. eleven days later, a fuel pump was replaced and the vehicle repaired. *nm
I have owned a 2005 chrysler pacifica for seven months. over that period, i have documented a total 6 stalling events. the common trigger seems to be deceleration while turning or slightly turning either left or right. the speeds during the stalling events have twice occurred at highway speeds, and four times while decelerating from speeds of 30 - 45 to near 0. on one occasion, while at 45 - 50 mph and changing lanes to the right, the vehicle stalled affecting the steerability and the car ran off the road striking a hard object that caused the front tire to blow out and destruction of the front rim and bending the rear rim. a police officer was dispatched to the scene of this incident. the dealer has been consulted twice now. the first visit to the dealer was uneventful after a "thorough" checkover, ending with a statemenat that there was no record of similar events and thus nothing could be done. the second visit, after the incident mentioned above, the dealer put near 300 miles on the vehicle without duplication and, again, stating that there is no such history of similar events. not to mention, the dealer put the 300 miles on the donut tire (because of the damage to the tires and rims). the dealer refused to replace the damaged rims and tires and said there was nothing that they could or would do. when noting that my confidence in the vehicle had been shatterred and my concern for my life was the real issue, they said there was nothing they could do. after all this, the dealer failed to notify us of the 2004 recall for the same type of stalling event.
? battery leaking? i have red fluid dripping from under my front right side of the car (looking at it), under where the battery / battery caseing is. it was noticed, as we pulled out of the garage and found the red spots under the front where the car was parked. we popped the hood, the same looking red fluid is all over the battery, and looks to be arouund the casing of the battery as well. not 100% sure, but is has ruined our holiday, as the car now sits until we can get this back to the dealership, yet again (5th time ) in 5 weeks to be repaired. i took photos of this to keep as a visual document as well, as we have had our car in the shop every week, at least 1 - 3 days since we got the car on 5/23/05.
