We have classified the 78 complaints from 2005 Chrysler Pacifica about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Car loses power and cuts off due to pcm and fuel system
The 2005 chrystler pacifica was traveling 35 mph in the winter on a paved road when it just died no warning. i had it towed to my house for further testing.the car tries starting but never turns over act like no fuel. i then hooked it up to my foxwell nt630 elite obd2 scanner it detected codes p0340, p2066, p0700, & p0461 code p0340 cam shaft position sensor a circuit bank 1 or single sensor (part replaced). code p2066 fuel level sensor b (performance). code p0700 transmission control system. code p0461 fuel level sensor a (range/performance) nhtsa campaign number: 06v432000 manufacturer daimlerchrysler corporation components power train potential number of units affected 127,928 summary: on certain passenger vehicles, the fuel pump module and the power train control module (pcm) software may allow the engine to stall under certain operating conditions. remedy dealers will reprogram the power train control module. the fuel pump module will also be replaced on vehicles built from august 1, 2004 through september 30, 2004. the recall began on november 21, 2006. owners may contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403. two separate defect conditions that could result in engine stall while driving in model year (my) 2005-2006 chrysler pacifica vehicles (nhtsa recall no. 06v-432). my 2005 vehicles built in august and september of 2004 are being recalled to correct a defect in the secondary fuel pump modules, which may have an improper press fitting on the inlet that can become dislodged and shut-off fuel flow. all my 2005-2006 vehicles built between july 8, 2004 and november 11, 2005 are being recalled to correct a powertrain control module (pcm) software issue with the evaporative emissions system which can also cause stalling. for both conditions, engine stall incidents tend to occur during left turns. nhtsa action number: rq06002
Takata recall the car lurches forward and bangs when stopped, also while stopped the car registers 20mph. when driving speed reaches 60mph the car has power surges and shutters, the car makes a loud whining noise while driving like it is stuck in high gear. the car has a high rpm speed of 4-6rpms while driving. the service engine light is on at all times.
I just came out from car wash i turned right on to the freeway soon as i reached 50mph my vehicle made a weird noise and shut off. the steering wheel locked i had to pull off free way(no accident, thankfully) go to a safe place put it in park try starting it it wouldn't start. smoke came out from back passenger rear tire. let my car sit over night tried to start it next morning, wouldn't start. towed it into shop they couldn't find the problem but later they told me i need a whole new engine. i only got to drive it 2x before it stalled. i really like it and wish i can get it fixed
I drove out from car wash i was going about 35mph then i turned right on to the freeway soon as i reached 50mph my vehicle made a weird noise and shut off as im on the freeway. there were no warning lights on whatsoever although i got a "gas cap" message. the steering wheel locked i had to pull off the free way(no accident, thankfully) the breaks were hard to push down i had no choice but to let it roll through traffic i got to a safe place i put it in park waited about 30 minutes to try starting it, it would not start. smoke came out from back passenger rear tire. let my car sit over night tried to start it the next morning, again it would not start. i had it towed it into shop they could not find the problem i had left my vehicle in the shop for a week other mechanics discovered the problem. later they told me i need a whole new engine. i only got to drive it 2x before it stalled. i really like it and wish i can get it fixed i do believe it has to do with the power train, fuel propulsion, and engine. *tr
Car was stationary in residential driveway. transmision would not shift out of park. the simple release mechanism did not help. took consol apart. as described on youtube videos, could see that the pink plastic part was broken so spring did not operate. found opening so i could rotate the pink part with finger and get out of park. this problem sounds exactly like problems covered by recall k39, but my model is apparently not covered. why is it not covered? should chrysler cover the repair?
When i was driving on the freeway (driving 45 mi/hr), it stopped moving accelerating (seems like the car is actually slowing down) even when i was stepping on the gas pedal. and then the car stalled.......it was a good thing i was on the very right side of the lane. the fuel pump module and/or the powertrain control module (pcm) software may allow the engine to stall under certain operating conditions, increasing the risk of a crash. dealers will need to reprogram/replace the pcm/tcm and/or replace the fuel pump module to correct this concern. in most cases, aside from stalling and engine revving up and down on its own, there's a lot of hard jerking when driving the vehicle. it seems like the engine has a mind of its own since when i accelerate, the car will not move or delay in moving forward and if i let go of the gas, the car moves forward. it's a safety concern.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. within less than 30 days of the contact owning the vehicle, the contact stated that the vehicle jerked and the transmission slowly shifted in and out of gear. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the sensors could be the cause of the failure. the vehicle was also taken back to the dealer it was purchased from and the alternator assembly was replaced; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was also taken to bergstrom used car super center of appleton (2925 n victory ln, appleton, wi 54913, (920) 749-3232) where it was diagnosed that the frame had extensive rust, holes, and corrosion that could affect the motor, rendering the vehicle unsafe to drive. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.
Front sub-frame has rusted through rendering the vehicle unsafe to drive. this is the exact same failure as many other reports you have received on this vintage, make and model vehicle. fca has refused to offer any assistance toward the repair and my local mechanic reported that new replacement sub-frames are not even available - leaving consumers with the choice of recycling the vehicle at a salvage yard, repairing it with what is obviously flawed oem components, or keep it as lawn decoration. i have taken the vehicle off the road and am thankful the problem was discovered prior to my wife or son experiencing a catastrophic failure while driving. it is only a matter of time before someone looses a life because of this defect. be proactive and force fca to repair these failures - regardless of mileage - or this organization is part of the problem.
I have owned this vehicle for almost two years with minimal issues. all of a sudden three days ago, i was driving on the freeway and the accelerator stopped working. the car did not shut off just kind of sputtered like it wanted to cut off. i had to maneuver my way to the side of the road. eventually i ended up having it towed to my home. now i am without a vehicle. i was told it could be the pcm, ecm or the transmission.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle restarted after several attempts. a unknown dealer was contacted and confirmed that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 06v432000(power train). the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the power train control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 130,474.

I went to get the 2005 chrystler pacifica inspected and was told by the mechanic that the bottom was rusted so badly that the engine would fall out, and further that the year make and model was under recall for the same problem, the bottom rusting out horribly. i called chrystler with the vin # and was told this 1 wasn't part of the recall even though it was the same year and make of the recall. i owe 4,400$ on the car and now am told the repairs would exceed 5,000$. i financed it for 6,455$ at the start. i'm disabled and greatly in need of help, i don't know what to do i have made a slew of calls to no avail at this point and continue to make payments as i don't want to ruin my credit, please help me, i don't know what to do.
This vehicle was appraised as a trade-in for another automobile. it was discovered that its engine cradle was corroded and the vehicle was declared unsafe for resale. this situation is identical to numerous other complaints regarding chrysler pacificas and is the currently the subject of a class-action lawsuit.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle restarted after the initial attempt, but the vehicle began to operate abnormally. the vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 06v432000 (power train); however, the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the vehicle was inoperable. the radio remained active, but the vehicle would not start. the battery was replaced. the vehicle was taken to auto zone where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module switch malfunctioned. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 193,600.
My vehicle began stalling while being driven on the street and highways, when turning and while stopped for light changes. had to have battery "jumped" or charged several times. battery had to be replaced twice because of discharged from alternator. had alternator replaced. battery continued to drained. vehicle ran for one day and completely shut down while in motion. after jump starting the battery, vehicle ran for a couple of minutes. was told by service mechanics, battery or alternator problems even after having those parts replaced. finally had the vehicle towed to dealership that specialized in chryslers and was shock when he stated it was the pcm (powertrain control module) which i believed and researched was part a recall for 2005 pacificas in 2006. told by the dealership that the fuel pump was fixed which is not the problem of this vehicle. the pcm is the problem, and the dealership is not owning this. i did not purchase the vehicle until 2010; so i honestly believed that this problem was not repair but claimed to had been. when referencing the recall notification (which i did not receive personally), the fuel pump problem was replaced for 2004 models not 2005 models. pcm problems were that of the 2005 models which was not repaired or replaced for this vehicle. i have had my vehicle towed approximately 7 times now. i am still paying insurance for a vehicle that is unable to be driven. the dealership wants to charge me $1000 for repair, that is a little less that half of what the vehicle is worth.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the lights on the instrument panel would illuminate intermittently and the vehicle stalled. the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who stated that the power train control module needed to be replaced. the mechanic informed the contact that the vehicle was included in a recall; however, the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included. the vehicle was not repaired. the nhtsa campaign number and the failure mileage were unknown.
Vehicle engine cradle sub-frame is rotting through and nearly separating one portion from another. this will at some point in time fail in a catastrophic manner. this defect seems to be well documented on numerous web sites and fiat chrysler group is aware of this problem and makes like the problem is with only a very limited number of vehicles which is clearly not the case. they have an extended warranty of note for this very problem, but is limiting it to a very few cars manufactured between a very limited timeframe from late 2004 to early 2005, all others are excluded in spite of the fact that numerous pacifica's are noted as having this problem.this repair is an approx. $3000 repair that chrysler is ignoring the safety of the owners and families of these cars and those driving around them. *tr
We just bought our 2005 chrysler pacifica not to long ago, and the check engine light comes on and stays on, it also affects our gas milage, we had it checked and that's when we found out that there is a recall on the gas sensor in the tank, and every now and again when we make left hand turns it dies on us. we have a child with multiple disabilities and we need a vehicle that is going to be safe to get him to his appointments. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the pcm module failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the contact stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 06v432000 (power train). the approximate failure mileage was 166,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. while driving 10 mph and making a right or left turn, the vehicle stalled without warning. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 06v432000 (power train). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
As i sat at a stop light waiting for it to turn green, the speedometer jumped up to 20 mph and the vehicle lunged forward. i almost rear ended the vehicle in front of me. the vehicles check engine light came on and had stated on since than. i had the code scanned and it came back as codes p0700 and p0740. i searched for the meaning of those codes and they pretty much said it was the tcm (transmission control module) which had been recalled on several chrysler pacifica's. i called the local dealer and they said that was not a recall on my vin specific vehicle. i of course asked how it was not recalled on my vehicle when everything i have read says it was for all 2005-2006 pacifica's. there have been other reports of this same incident happening with other pacifica owners as well. i would like to have the tcm on my vehicle recalled and replaced just as thousands of others were. if i had been and closer to any of the vehicles in front of me the several times this has happened then i would have rear ended several people by now and none of the accidents would have been my fault. these incidents happen every time i am driving in town. it never lunes forward as far as i am aware, on the freeway. please help me fix this problem before it does cause an accident. *tr
I have just performed routine (10/03/20014) maintenance on my 2005 chrysler pacifica. the mechanic called to inform me of significant corrosion problem with the cross member (cradle) that supports the engine, transmission, front suspension and steering. his visual inspection, as well as mine, showed more then 75% of the passenger side cradle rusted away. an open case # 25736224 has been established by chrysler customer support. my pacifica was produced september 30, 2004 which is outside of the assembly dates established by chrysler for extended warranty coverage. failure of the cross member (cradle) would cause loss of steering, engine and transmission failure, and severed brake lines. because this is a major safety issue it should be repaired by chrysler corporation. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the engine stalled. the contact was able to maneuver the vehicle to side of the road. the vehicle was towed. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the power train control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified about the failure and refused to provide any assistance since the vehicle had previously been repaired under an unknown manufacturer recall. the approximate failure mileage was unknown.
The vehicle has stalled multiple times during a left turn. apparently many of the 05 pacificas were recalled for this issue, but the chrysler service said my vehicle was not under the recall even though it has the same issue under the recall. 06v432000. since my vin does not pull up the recall they will not cover fixing the vehicle, even though so many other cars were recalled in the same year for this dangerous issue. *tr
The sub frame under the drive train has rusted out to the point that it has little or no structural strength, this has essentially rendered the car inoperative and unsafe to operate. the car has barely 100,000 miles. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the shift lever became stuck in the park position. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 95,000.
I have a 2005 pacifica. the car was in for body work, when a mechanic noticed severe rusting on the frame. he stated that the engine, could fall through the body frame! i did a google search and found hundreds of complaints about the problem. there is a story from a tv station in florida covering this story. http://www.nbcmiami.com/investigations/some-chrysler-pacifica-owners-say-they've-had-dangerous-corrosion-problems-with-the-popular-minivan-243624441.html. this is a engineering failure according to my mechanic, who stated they did not included enough drain plugs. my daughter drives this car and i contacted chrysler and they say it is past the warranty. this is unacceptable an engine should never be able to fall out of its mountings!!!!!! *tr
I took my newly purchased 2005 chrysler pacifica to my mechanic to get the brakes serviced, and was told that the engine cradle was completely rusted out and the engine was in danger of falling out! my mechanic was extremely concerned (he is a friend and an honest mechanic who runs a very reputable repair and body shop in ottawa, ks). i called chrysler before i purchased the car to see if their were any recalls on it, and was told their was not. the car is otherwise in perfect condition, no damage and very little wear inside and out. it was clear to my mechanic that this was due to some defect in the vehicle, and should not happen on a 10 year old car that is in as good of condition as mind is with only 110000 miles on it. to have a new engine cradle put it, it would cost over $4000. i cannot afford that, so we are putting in a reconditioned one, inspected to make sure it has no wear or rust on it, and we are painting and putting additional undercoating on it as to prevent any such recurrences. after looking online, i have since learned this is a widespread problem, and is effecting a large number of owners, and is much more widespread than chrysler is willing to admit. i called them, and my car is supposedly not one effected in their 3-4 week window of production, yet it was completely rusted to the point of possibly causing a serious and even fatal car accident. *tr
I was driving and getting ready to turn at a light and as soon as i started to turn my car turned off. also when i brake somewhat fast it makes a big clunking sound. also ever since i've had the car it seems to shift pretty hard. i am mostly concerned with is turning off on me while i am driving though. *tr
Nhtsa please notice how many people have submitted this problem. over 50 just since this january. subframe corrosion to the point the mechanic didn't even think it should be driven home. engine, transmission, front wheels could all fall at any moment. why hasn't anyone done anything about this? i see over 50 people have complained about this very problem since only this january. luckily we noticed it, hate to think of all the other pacifica drivers out there that have no idea the danger they are in. what will it take? one death? two deaths? how many people, chrysler? this is obviously a major problem and needs to be fixed at no cost to the consumer. who has $2500 to repair their car? not us. will be contacting chrysler to no avail i'm sure but worth a try. *tr
I have a 2005 chrysler pacifica that has failed inspection due to extensive engine cradle rust. this vehicle's body and undercarriage is immaculate except for the engine cradle "k frame". i have contacted chrysler and they are unwilling fix the problem because it is 20k miles over the power train warranty even though there is no other rust issues on the vehicle. after doing research, i have discovered that i am not alone in this battle! i am within 8 months of the previous recalled vehicles from chrysler for this same issue and i believe that chrysler should extend their recall as this is a potential dangerous issue that is growing with this specific model vehicle. *tr
I initially took my car in because i hear a noise in the wheel well. after an additional day of holding the vehicle, i was told that my cradle that basically housed the major engine components was corroded and needed to be replace. i was provided a total of over $2300 for the parts alone. after researching the part, i found many incidents reported that this is a known issue by chrysler. i as well was told that i had extended power train warranty when i purchased the vehicle used in june of 2013. this is a major safety defect; as this car (and others) are not structurally sound. i drive my 7 year old daughter and 10 year old son in the vehicle everyday. i also make a 68 mile highway commute round trip to and from work in the vehicle. this should be something that is recalled and i want to know what is chrysler going to do about the matter. i see there are recalls for seat belts that save lives. recalling the structure of the vehicle should be included as failure of this component is catastrophic. it will save lives to recall and repair. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated as the transmission slipped. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 161,000. the vin was unavailable.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacific. the contact stated she took her vehicle for an oil change. the mechanic informed the contact that her under carriage was corroded, and that the engine cradle was about to be disengaged. the vehicle had not been taken to a dealer or a independent mechanic for diagnosis or repairs. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 128,052.lj
When i start my car from a parked position, i put the car in reverse and it stalls out . it throws the car in neutral . i also ended up in a ditch . i had to leave the car at my job. unable to drive it home from work. my mechanic will come and tow my car to his shop. *tr
Found out in december 2013 getting tires, that engine cradle had serious rust and to watch it. engine light came on in january 2014, and car needed transmission work. mechanic took frame off and it rained rust particles from the horribly corroded engine cradle frame. called chrysler, wanting to speak with supervisor. i was told that a supervisor would call me within 24 hrs. never happened. called again a week later, and that operator found out my original message was never delivered to a supervisor. and now i"m waiting again for 24 hrs for someone to call me. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle decelerated and all the warning lamps illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician diagnosed that the transmission control module was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in recall nhtsa campaign number: 06v432000 (power train). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 100,000.
Vehicle stalling - brought to mechanic and was advised this was already a chrysler recall issue. contacted chrysler and was advised that the date of manufacture was a few months outside the recall date and they could not help. vin # [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I was driving back from a picnic with my family, going home my car just stopped white smoke was pouring out of the tailpipeand smelt gas really bad it was a horrible experience but my main problem is i only have had this car sine february 19 2013 and so i called my insurance company and had it towed to my home.i called my warranty company they said bring it to the nearest chrysler dealership and have it looked at so i did in the mean time i check to see any recalls on my vehicle and there is one for the fuel module and power train so i got a phone call from the person that i was speaking with he said my car caught on fire and now i need a new engine this is a 5000.0 dollar engine that i don't have now my warranty said they were not going to cover it and the guy i am financing the car said for me to eat the loss well i am very unhappy right now because i have no car and no answers to why this happened i also don't want anyone else to go through this kind of thing thank god my family was not in the car when it caught on fire or there would be more serious consciences if anyone could please contact me in trying to help me figure out what happened that would be great everyone i talk to said that chrysler should be able to help me. i am not looking to have to bring in a lawyer or anything like that i would just like to know how would you feel if it happened to you and if possible how to restore my faith in chrysler again. *tr
I had gotten a catalytic converter approximately 2 years ago and now the chrysler dealer say i need another one i thought they last longer than that, instead they say its wear and tear i do not think so i think there is a defect in the emission. *tr
Car was stalling the nit before, pedal started getting stuck. i go home and park the car. the next morning i get in the car to take me daughters to school and cars gear shift will not move out of park. car will turn on but gears wont move. 80, 000 miles on car 2005 chrysler pacifica touring. i have consumer report of the same problems and pink plastic piece breaking not only on chrysler pacificas but a recall on the dodge magnum, chargers, and the chrysler 300. this issue is happening to a lot of chrysler and dodge cars there need to be a recall on the pacificas as well. if u google chrysler pacifica transmission gear shift u will c im not the only one. i guess this why this car was discontinued. something should be done. people are not aware of how to contact about this issue. is it fair that consumers have to pay almost 600 dollars to fix an issue that clearly most of chrysler and dodge cars are all having. a recall needs to happen for the transmission gear shift in pacificas now since were experiencing the same problems as the dodge charger, magnum, and chrysler 300. *tr
The subframe (which holds up the engine) has thoroughly rusted through creating the danger of the engine and transmission falling from the frame. i am told the car is unsafe to drive. chrysler has acknowledged a defect in materials used to construct cars in february and march of 2004 and has extended the warranty to 150,000 miles for those vehicles. as mine was produced 4 months later they are denying any liability and refusing any assistance. the defect is identical to one that is covered on cars made 4 months prior , and they have been unable to provide any documentation showing the material used on my vehicle is not from the defective batch. i may have defective parts but they cannot provide a method to identify those defective parts. chrysler is unwilling to even examine the vehicle, instead using the vin as their only reference as to coverage. i found it interesting that when i referenced others receiving assistance outside the parameters of the extended warranty i was told that based on customer loyalty there may be assistance for some but it was not available to me. i am concerned that customer loyalty plays a role in the safety of their (past) customers. i'm not sure how many people expect their frame to fail in 8 years but this could be a major safety factor for both passengers and any vehicle around them when an engine falls from a car. how many complaints are needed before action is taken? *tr
