Recently reported ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING problems on 2004 Chrysler Pacifica

Chrysler pacifica motor mounts go bad. fluid filled motor mounts bust and cause engine to shift and create vibrating when accelerating and braking. engine moves when braking, accelerating and releasing gas pedal. motor mounts have been replaced in last 10 months and are now busted again after less than one year. motor mounts are on backorder due to so many having to be replaced on numerous vehicles. all 2004 to 2008 pacificas have fluid filled motor mounts that break and cause other engine problems anywhere from 10000 miles to 40k miles. *tr

Pacifica lifter going bad. *tr

2004 chrysler pacifica with failed motor mounts (3). *tr

Failure of both motor mounts on our 2004 chrysler pacifica. parts from local dealer have been back ordered for weeks. additional research on my part has shown this is a very common problem with this model. motor mounts should not fail but especially when the vehicle has less than 90k miles. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the accelerator pedal would intermittently become stuck in the open throttle position. when the failure would occur, the vehicle would jerk violently before accelerating and stalling. the vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the independent mechanic discovered that all of the engine mounts were fractured. the engine mounts were replaced at the contact's expense. after repairs, the failure recurred sporadically and the engine would vibrate and exhibit an unusually loud rumble. the contact was sitting idle at a gated entrance. the vehicle abnormally accelerated up to 15 mph and crashed into the gate while the brakes were depressed. a police report was available. the contact was unable to drive the vehicle from the scene and the vehicle was towed to her insurance company's lot. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact was awaiting a response from the manufacturer. the failure mileage was approximatley 85,000 and current mileage was 118,343.

Chrysler pacifica 2004 motor mounts( front & back) replaced every 15,000 miles. this is something that keeps happening and almost wrecked with kids in car. *tr

2004 chrysler pacifica. in the past 3 months we have replaced the motor mounts and the antilock braking system module. we now have a thrown rod in the motor or a major cylinder problem. the vehicle only has 80,000 miles on it and we maintain it regularly. are there any other problems that are common for this vehicle? *tr

Problem was with my 2004 chrysler pacifica not starting. after taking it to a mechanic found that i have three broken motor mounts. this appears to be a very common problem for this make and model according to the many complaints i have read online. *tr

Engine shuts off while driving the vehicle. three separate occurrences, most recently on february 12,2010. *tr

The accelerator sticks preventing acceleration. this has happened multiple times. the dealer states that it is due to a build-up of carbon on the engine components. maintenance is required - not covered under any warranty or factory program. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that when depressing the brake or accelerator pedal, there was an unusual noise. the dealer stated that the top motor mount had collapsed. all four motor mounts and brackets were replaced at the owners expense. the manufacturer was contacted but would not provide any assistance. the failure and current mileages were 35,120.

Failed motor mount 2004 chyrsler pacifica, apparently very common and can cause severe damage to car if not found in the early stage. this is supposed "normal wear". never have i had to replace these part before on any other vehicle i have owned. *tr

Chrysler pacifica engine mounts failure and no replacements available. engine mounts have failed 3 times in 120,000 miles, but now they can't be replaced. no aftermarkets available and chrysler is on a "4 month national backorder". my mechanic confirms a design failure, but no alternatives. every pacifica he knows has an engine mount failure with no options for repair. *tr

1. the issue has existed for a few years, but diagnosis has been conclusive only recently. the issue seems to have arisen from normal wear and tear. the vehicle is driven frequently, but is not abused in any way. 2. the motor mounts have failed, at least one is completely broken. the result is a very loud knocking noise when braking sharply. it is unknown at this time if further damage will be found resulting from this condition pending repair. 3. the vehicle is waiting for parts which have been on backorder. once the part arrives, repairs will commence. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. the contact heard a knocking sound whenever the transmission has to shift. the mechanic stated that the motor mounts were failing. in february or march of 2009, the vehicle had a transmission fluid leak. the dealer replaced a seal and stated that the vehicle was repaired. the contact still has the work order for that repair. the current mileage was 88,000 and failure mileage was 87,500.

Motor mount failure on chrysler pacifica. noise upon braking. *tr

My car was recently state inspected and it was discovered that i needed the front and rear motor mounts on my 2004 chrysler pacifica. after researching the problem, i read complaints from many owners who had the exact same failures with their pacifica's despite low mileage (30,000 to 40,000 miles). the problem appears to be a serious defect with this car because the motor mount is on backorder with the majority of chrysler dealers. a chrysler parts department employee at reedman's dealership in langhorne, pa. told me the part is on backorder with no availability date forecasted. the employee told me this is a sure sign of a serious problem when this occurs. i have a problem now because i won't be able to drive my car when the state inspection sticker expires the end of april. i have read the shortage is possibly self inflicted so as to avoid warranty repairs. i don't believe that is true because bad motor mounts could lead to an accident and liability issues. however, i do believe this needs to be investigated and if deemed credible a recall initiated to correct the reason for the early failures i.e. defective part or engineering flaw. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. upon entering a parking space, the vehicle accelerated unexpectedly. as a result, the contact crashed into a restaurant, another vehicle, and a handicap post. the vehicle was completely destroyed, but there were no injuries. a police report was filed. she had to turn off the engine to stop it from revving. the vehicle was inspected, but the technician could not determine the cause of the failure. the manufacturer would not assist. the failure and current mileages were 89,000. updated 05/06/09 *bf updated 05/08/09.*jb

Our 2004 pacifica has a broken motor mount, and we were told by dealer that the part is on back order indefinitely, now driving around with a broken motor mount, possible damage being done to the engine. the car is covered under warranty but can't get it fixed because chrysler is not making any parts any time soon, if at all; we want to know when chrysler will start making parts to fix our car. *tr

The water hose became disconnected from the radiator on my 2004 chrysler pacifica , and the repair shop stated my motor mounts should be replace because the engine is not stationary which caused the problem. there is also knocking and popping noises when i break or turn corners. i took my car in to have the repairs done, but we can't find parts because too many other chrysler owners need to complete the same type repairs. i contacted chrysler corporation for possible recall, but the items or not listed. i purchase the extended warranty at the time of purchase, but nothing that goes wrong with the car is covered. help! there are too many problems with the car. *tr

2004 chrysler pacifica in need of engine mounts, have been on order for over a year with local dealer. finding out there are lots and lots and lots of us with engine mount problems! now i'm being told not to drive my car so much, what do they expect me to do ? walk! worried about my families safety. this is an issued that needs to be investigated. *tr

In investigating unusually fast and uneven tire wear, mechanic doing alignment noticed side engine mount partially broken and front engine mount completely broken and detached, so that engine moves while car is in motion. car cannot be safely driven until repaired, and chrysler cannot supply front engine mount. private garage replaced both mounts and new front engine mount failed immediately when car started to move. part appears defective, or some other design flaw causes failure. chrysler dealer reports 1300+ front engine mounts on backorder with supplier, indicating widespread problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. while driving at an unknown speed, the contact heard a popping sound in the front of the vehicle underneath the hood. the dealer could not duplicate the failure. she had an independent mechanic inspect the vehicle and it was discovered that the rear motor mount transmission was fractured. the dealer stated that the part needed for the repair was on national back order. there were 12,000 parts that were expected to arrive. the contact had been waiting two months for the part to arrive. currently, the part has not yet arrived and is still on back order. the current and failure mileages were less than 55,000.

When you stop you hear and fill a large clank and the engine moving forward. we took it to the shop and waited 2 months for the first motor mount to be ordered and received there was a national backorder. while in the shop they discovered the front motor mount was now bad. this time there is 2600 on national back order and this time there is not a time frame to have it fixed. i called chrysler and they will not talk to me because i bought my car used in 2006. chrysler does not show me as the original owner. i am driving my family in a car that is un-safe. if chrysler knows of the issue then why are they not doing anything to help. any dealer i call or email tells me the same thing. they say they receive many calls a day about the part but they don't know. you can put your name on the list and pay for it but can not give you a time line to get it fixed. now my warranty is up during this wait. it is going on 5 months now. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. the contact took his vehicle to the mechanic for routine maintenance and was informed that the front motor mount needed to be replaced because it was leaking. the manufacturer stated that the part has been on back order since november 13, 2008, and will be unavailable until february of 2009. the vehicle is unable to be driven. the failure mileage was 75,000.

Motor mounts on my '04 chrysler pacifica are broken. warranty does not cover this item. so many people are having this same problem. the mounts are all on a back-order status and no one can tell me when they will get any restock of them. so now many people are driving around with unsafe vehicles. i've checked e-bay and dealerships for these items. no luck. i think chrysler needs to re-call these mounts since many owners are having this same problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle made a puffing noise. the contact drove up the on ramp and the vehicle began to smoke. the tires caught fires. she exited the vehicle and noticed flames on the undercarriage of the vehicle. the police and fire department were notified. the vehicle was towed and a police report was filed. the current mileage was unknown and the failure mileage was 20,000.

2004 chrylser pacifica engine cradle rusted out, tie rod replaced about one yr ago. dealer won't cover cost d/t warranty expired. 53,000 miles on car. major safety issue d/t engine/trans could fall out while driving. instructed only to drive car if necessary. avoid bumps! have found multiple c/o on internet on same matter. i should not have to pay for poor quality of metal used on frame work. *tr

I have a chyrsler 04 pacifica and it has been trouble for way over a year now. it needs motor mounts and there is none available and has not been in a year. the chyrsler dealer and corporation has no clue to when and if they will ever have these mounts. i still have thousands of dollars to pay for this car and it is about to put me on my two feet. i have had to replace two sets of head lights in which both times they went out at the same time and i have had to replace the alternator and starter within a month of each other and the idle pulley had to be replaced. the only thing that chyrsler recalled that was recently fixed was the erg value. all of this other stuff is out of pocket and the motor mounts are in demand all over the u.s. take a look at topix.com/ chrysler motor mounts and you will see 41 other people like me with the same problem. *tr

My 2004 chrysler pacifica has broken motor mounts and have been told they are on back-order indefinately. *tr

1. oil has been changed by dealer since vehicle was new. odd occasion, due to location issues, oil had to be changed at a goodyear service department. 2. goodyear service writer informed us the drain hole threads on oil pan were stripped by the last place to change oil. informed oil pan needed to be replaced. contacted chrysler dealer where work had always been done. they denied responsibility, but acknowledged the wide-spread incidence of this problem with other pacifica models around the country. 3. after being put off for more than 6 weeks, we are having the oil pan drain hole re-threaded (it can only be done once), by a trusted mechanic trained by chrysler. we will determine what needs to done long-term as advised by this mechanic. *tr

Oil pan plug became stripped very easily resulting in need for oil pan replacement. mechanics reported oil pan unusually thin where plug screws in resulting in easy strip. to emphasize this must be a frequent occurrence, i was informed that my car is now on a waiting list of at least a month before one would be available. i was further notified that 156 are back ordered and 96 additional are in the pipeline for this particular pan for this engine. if i had the other engine available for this car, there would be immediate replacement. i was further warned that the car is dangerous to drive now because the plug could fall out at any time with a resultant fire and/or seizing up of the engine from rapid drainage of oil. *tr the consumer also heard front end noises. the consumer was informed the right side lever bushing was defective. updated 05/28/08

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. the contact noticed that the check engine light was illuminated. subsequently, the contact's mechanic monitored the light for approximately one week. the mechanic was able to retrieve a service bulletin, and the code indicated that when a consumer placed 12 gallons of fuel or less in the vehicle, the check engine light would illuminate. the contact had to pay $70 to have the engine reset. he consulted chrysler initially for reimbursement, but then for an explanation as to why the feature caused the light to illuminate. chrysler responded that the vehicle was out of warranty and they denied his request for reimbursement. he informed the dealer that the vehicle did not malfunction because, as he was informed, the vehicle was supposed to perform in that manner. therefore, the warranty was not an issue. the vin, purchase date, and engine size were unknown. the current mileage was 64,500 and failure mileage was 64,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. while driving at an unknown speed, the contact began to hear clunking noises from the engine and the check engine light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the motor mounts had fractured. the vehicle was repaired. three years later, the failure occurred again. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer but had not been repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000 and the current mileage was approximately 108,000. the vin was unavailable.

After having no problems with the 2004 chrysler pacifica for nearly 2 years, all of a sudden over the last 2 weeks it has begun to stall at inappropriate times. the first time i was slowing down for a car in front of me it just died. the next 2 times it happened while i was on the interstate using cruise control at 70 mph. the next time i was on the interstate without cruise control. today, it happened while i was idling in park, engine fully warmed up. each time all dashboard lights went out, and the key was in switch but not on. i was able to immediately restart the vehicle by turning ignition to on without having to stop and without having to shift out of drive. at first, i thought maybe i was hitting key with my knee, i was a bit tall, but this last time, my leg was nowhere near the ignition. i have a kill switch alarm system, but no one has been able to determine the source of my problem. *tr

I had a bad vibration in the front . so i took it to the dealer since i had a factory extended warranty bumper to bumper., they said the car needed tires. so i changed the tire it still vibrated. go back now it is the rack & pinion bushings are bad . but i need to replace the k frame because a weld is broken. they say i broke it cause there are scratches on it. {not that vibration did it} so i paid to have a new one put in . 8 months later the motor mounts break and the engine drops 2" from the ground . thank god my family was not driving down a highway. so i take it back and they say because there is scratches on it again that broke the bushings .once again i ended up paying to have it fixed. *tr

Tl*- the contact stated that her 2004 chrysler pacifica's rear engine mount needed to be replaced. the contact stated that while driving at 40 mph on clear sunny day, she heard a ticking noise coming from under the hood of the vehicle. she stated that she took the vehicle to the dealership and they informed the contact that her rear engine mount had broken. the dealership stated that had she not brought the vehicle in the engine could have fallen out of the vehicle. the contact stated that she found other people having the same problem on the internet. the contact stated that this was not covered under warranty. the current mileage was 44,000 miles.

On several (10+) occasions in the last month, our car has lost power while driving from what appears to be a fuel starvation issue. on the last event we were nearly rear-ended by following cars due to the sporadic acceleration/deceleration. i have brought the pacifica to the dealer twice to have the problem diagnosed and have been told twice that no problem can be found and the computer does not indicate a "fault code" for why the check engine light is on.

Car stalled (shut down completely) in suburban traffic. was able to be re-started. *jb

On oct 20,2006 my third (emission failure) has happened to my chrysler pacifica 2004 fwd model (48,535 miles). this model had problems in the past-most have been corrected. the first was engine stalling, which was repaired with updated software. the next was my a/c control/hvac unit which would not light, noise from bushings was replaced. flickering of dash lights time to time is an issue-the current major problem is that it will not pass emissions on three occasions it has failed next visit will be to the dealer on oct 30,2006- nys inspector/mechanic has told me that the pc in albany in nys may not read all codes all places show -oxygen sensor and cat sensor as being down and not ready on the print report-third mechanic thinks it is under warranty which si should be and that it may be the ecm or bus section of the module-this is based on a scan test and a obd2 system. failures = 3 nys inspection fails -4th will be at the dealership-consequences hoping to get it repaired as soon as possible. *nm

I lease a 2004 pacifica with approx 30,000 on the vehicle. several weeks ago while driving up an interstate highway i felt a front vibration and suddenly heard a loud thump. i immediately exited my car to see if i had a flat tire and noticed that what had made the noise was from losing the bottom half of my front bumper. i drove directly to my dealer whereby the front was inspected and referred to the district parts manager for chrysler. i have just received word from chrysler that they, nor the dealer, will cover this 'lost part' because i never retrieved it from the interstate where it was lying in the middle of the road and had already been run over by at least one or two 18 wheeler trucks. i furthered whether chrysler expected me to pick up this large piece in my business attire or more importantly risk my life in doing so because if i had retrieved the piece from the highway then they would consider it under warranty. i actually had the car in for a routine 3000 mile inspection 1 week prior to this incident and would have expected that something like this would have been noted by the mechanic. chrysler say's that they back their dealers which naturally solicited a response from me that they should rather back their customers first. chrysler broadcasts an excellent bumper to bumper warranty and other than my fan belt failing within two months since taking possession of the car i have not used the warranty. *nm

Tl* - the contact has a 2004 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the clock display turns off, the gas gauge needle floats up and down, and electrical equipment would go dim. the contact stated that the gas gauge registers the fuel as low when the gas tank is almost full and that a rear interior light goes on. also, the dvd player switches songs as if it were searching for radio stations. the child safety locks for her windows only work occasionally. the heater doesn't always turn on, but when it does it cannot be adjusted unless the power to the vehicle is turned off. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled twice while she was driving 55 mph with an odometer reading of 58000 miles. during one of the stalling incidents she was trying to change lanes, but the car would not accelerate, so she pulled over onto the median where the car turned off. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and resume driving. *nm

I am only the second owner my 2004 pacifica for three months and have never owned a vehicle with this many problems. i only drove it two weeks when i started hearing a terrible rattling noise around the front right tire. i had my local chrysler dealership look at the car. they said i need to replace the rotors and sway links. we replaced those however the problems was not fixed. i took it back at which now it's pouring oil out from under it. they attempted to fix it however they do not. i took it back a third time they finally fixed the oil leak but the rattling and popping in the front suspension is still there. i have since taken it to an independent mechanic who assisted that the top and bottom motor mounts were completely broken. i replaced those and they seem to think the popping is possibly the control arm or bushings. only two days ago the air pressure sensor in the left front wheel broke and i have an engine light on. the engine light reader stated the car had an emission system leak. i can not believe a car this new could have all these problems. i am very unsatisfied with this automobile. i am in shock. chrysler should make this right. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle idled roughly, bucked, and stalled completely. the vehicle was taken to service dealer, where the dealer was unable to duplicate problem.

My pacifica 2004 model engine just stalled when i turned into my company's parking lot. then, i could no longer steer and lost control of my steering wheel. my friends at work drove right behind me and just passed by almost hitting me like a "sandwich." then, i checked to see if there was enough fuel in the tank; i saw about 3/4 left on the fuel gauge. so, i re-started the engine and parked my car safely in the assigned lot. i noticed for the first time, the fuel gauge went from 3/4 level to the "full tank" level and stayed there the entire time. when i did re-start the engine, after 8 hours just to go home, i noticed the fuel gauge was still full. it was very funny and started to drop down to 3/4 again!! right after that, i took my foot off the gas pedal to let the engine warm up, as i always do, my engine could not hold its rpm to keep running and kept stalling again repeatedly. how did i go home that night? i re-started the engine and tried to hold on the gas pedal for about 50-65 seconds by watching the clock in my car, then i heard a clicking sound from inside of the engine compartment, e.g. air-condition working, or idle timing, or something. but, i still kept my foot on the gas pedal until 100-110 seconds and took my foot of the gas pedal. the engine did not stall anymore, so, i luckily could drive home in the night. when i arrived at home, i stopped the engine and re-started again, many times. the engine was perfectly normal as i had been driving them for 2.5 years, like nothing ever had happened. so, i did some investigating and visited several car websites. some of them suggested i file a complaint to nhtsa for this problem because other pacifica owners had similar problems. and, i just did because this problem is very detrimental serious and can easily cause serious damages to life and property of anyone inside the vehicles. *jb

The chrysler pacifica 2004 is an extremely dangerous vehicle. the car stalled three times on me on the highway where i nearly got into an accident. another time, the right axle came off and the car rolled down a hill and nearly hit a woman. i could have killed people many times with the pacifica since it is an extremely dangerous vehicle to drive. i found out that many people have these exact same issues. please do something about it before it gets too late. thank you. *nm

Tl*the contact owns 2004 chrysler pacifica. she stated that the engine motor mounts are constantly knocking. the dealer refused to repair due to the motor mounts not being covered under warranty. the failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 77,000. the contact did not know the exact purchase date of the vehicle.

Dt*: the contact stated having problems with the brakes. while driving 15 mph the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was towed to the dealership who replaced the front brakes. the brake sensors did not work properly when the incident occurred. updated 9/11/2006 - the caliper bolts (self locking) fell out. the dealership indicated that this should never happen. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalls without warning. the vehicle restarts each time. this problem caused an accident, while in reverse the vehicle stalled and the brakes did not respond. this caused the vehicle to collide with another vehicle. there was damage to both the rear end of the contact's vehicle and the front end of the other vehicle. the dealership is unable to diagnose a problem.

I was driving the car on the highway with the cruise control set at 70 mph and the car stalled. i was able to pull off on to the shoulder where the car came to a stop. warning lights lit up on the dashboard including a message to service tires soon. the car would not re-start at first. after 5 minutes, the car re-started, but then stalled again when i accelerated. the car was then towed to the nearest dealership where they found nothing wrong with the car. the car was returned to me without anything being replaced.*jb
