Took a short drive. turned off the vehicle. after a couple minutes smoke and flames were coming out of the hood. grabbed a fire extinguisher opened the hood and put out the fire on the passenger side. the air filter housing was melted.embers were still spreading along the insulation attached to the hood. manually removed the spreading embers with some tools. not sure the cause. also why is the insulation made of a material that is not fireproof?

I drove to my friends house, and 15 minutes later my car was engulfed in flames! the fire chief said it was an electrical problem that started the fire. my car was not running, and i was not in it.
2 times i have had my running and the doors lock. i had to call a locksmith. now the locks go on and off and the headlight and inside lights come on when turned off? this has happened when car was in park but also the locking and unlocking while driving. *tr

When we purchased the car i noticed when i selected the seat setting it said it was set. when i went to drive the vehicle again i selected seat one and it had the error messages as in the pictures.
My vehicle, while in motion on a city street, became uncontrollable. this happened when i accidentally hit the key in the ignition and it turned it to the off position. i suddenly lost control of the steering, brakes and nearly my mind! luckily i was able to get the car into neutral and roll to a stop. i feel lucky to have gotten out of the situation with my life! if i had been on a busier street, going at a faster speed, i am certain the situation would have lead to dire consequences.
I was driving and my children smelled smoke. i pulled over and opened the hood and saw a fire. a stranger stopped and tried putting it out with a fire extinguisher but it caught on so quickly that there was no chance. i suffered a complete loss since the entire car was engulfed in flames.
Driving after 45 minutes to 1 hr stop for short break (approximately 15 minutes). shut car off then upon returning to car the car won't start. tries too or hesitates. call triple aaa they hook it up to computer can't find anything wrong. starter good, alternator good, battery good. still won't start. hook to jump pack might start. this has happened 5 times in 2 weeks. garage can't find anything wrong either. once started finish driving another 1/2 hour shut vechicle off for either 6 hours or more; starts fine as long as i don't stop anywhere. help

I was going down the freeway when my battery light came on out of nowhere and then a smell of burnt rubber started coming through the car i pulled over and shut the engine off popped the hood and found a fire on my alternator . i was able to put the fire out but my children were in the car i am afraid to drive it. *tr
I was driving at about 30 mph when the car completely shut down. the car was then jumped and i tried to drive it around the corner and it completely shut down again this time losing all control...no brakes or steering. i almost crashed into the cars that were parked. these cars are death traps and need to be recalled! the whole frame is also rotting out. in a perfect world i would just run out and buy a new car but i am a mother of 3 and that's just not able to happen right now. i'm not even sure if the car can be repaired. it had to be towed to 2 different mechanics and i haven't heard back whether or not it can be fixed! someone needs to step up to the plate and hold chrysler accountable! i've had nothing but problems since day one and when i put my v.i.n # in it says there are no recalls on my car....that's a joke! this car is a lemon! *tr
All of the dash lights, abs, brake, interior lights, headlights have been flickering for a solid 3 days. i was driving at night on a non-lit stretch of road when all my lights went out, inside and out with a car approaching from the other direction. i tried to use my high beams and they were out too. i had my children and had to pull over. i have read reviews and this seems to be a huge problem with these cars yet no recall? why? this is so dangerous! this is my main vehicle i drive for work and with my family. i know am scared to drive it and what people have stated its hard and expensive to fix! *tr

I been having my chrysler pacifica 2004 for 7 months. i had to fix my left passenger axle, shock, water pump, radiator, passenger upper motor mount, the tank for the water, fuel injector line, two tune ups, air filter, fuses, brake lights and tires. thing that is broke, the passenger window elevator, and my ac. *tr
I bought the car feb 6th 2014 from a buy here pay here. after i bought the car i noticed that the vehicles gas light would move on its own from half a tank to empty while driving also my lights would flicker and engine would make a humming noise also after getting on and off the freeway, hittiing the gas pedal car did not want to accelerate and would sputter. on june 13 2014 my vehicle was putting while going 35mph and just shut off on me while driving with my son in the car. *tr
The horn for the car will sound indiscriminately. it will sound at any speed, any time of day, and even when the vehicle isn't running or has a key in the ignition. when the horn sounds, other drivers get distracted or confused by the sound. driving with the horn on is also very distracting. i am uncertain if pulling the fuse for the horn will affect the airbag operation. *js
The computer that controls everything including the headlights failed causing all my headlights to go out and blow during night time driving, resulting in a crash.!!!!! this is just as bad as a cars brakes totally failing and should be a recall on these ecu/ecm computers on chryslers immediately as the dealer wants to charge $1000 to fix!!! i see hundreds of people reporting the same problem and there are law suits also from this failure! *tr
Nothing but problems huge issue electrical problems, dash won't turn off so i have to use the four way button to kick the dash off so it doesn't run my battery dead, navigation system stopped working,heater/ac control panel stopped working along with radio and dvd system, sometimes the doors lock and sometimes they don't can't use brand new key for keyless entry, short somewhere running the battery dead had alternator checked and it's good had three new batteries also these cars are junk !! *tr
I have almost been in four accidents in the past week and a half due to my 2004 chrysler pacifica stalling in the middle of intersections and roads without warning. as i accelerate the car starts to hesitate, sputter and then just dies out. the last time it did this in the middle of a busy road with cars going by at 50mph, i had two good samaritans and two police officers that were nearby help me to safety where i had to have the vehicle towed back to my home where it sits today. the first time it happened the check engine light came on, it said bad crankshaft sensor, so i replaced it. the second time it happened it said bad camshaft, so i replaced it. the third time it happened it said bad camshaft sensor again, so i replaced thinking i bought a defective one. this did not work either as the car ended up stalling for good two days ago. i know there have been recalls in the past for this exact stalling condition of the engine, but chrysler says my car did not show up as one of the recalled ones. i find this very concerning that this dangerous condition would not be covered by chrysler when they know it has been an issue on thousands of other similar pacificas. *tr
Four months after replacing a rear motor mount. it failed again. this time it cause the other two motor mounts to fail which melted wires leading to the failure of the car's power control module. this resulted in a loss of speedometer, other electrical functions, and the loss of three ignition coils. it was brought to a dealer who fixed the pcm, and later discovered that all motor mounts need replacing. he had no explanation why a motor mount would have failed four months after they were inspected to be safe, and when one was brand new. the cost requested by the dealer for repair totals more than $2,500. *tr
I bought this 2004 pacifica from a dealer about a month ago. took it to the shop to get my shocks looked at and they told me they wouldn't do any work on it because the sub frame was rotted so badly they advised me not to drive or put any money into the vehicle because it is a safety issue. also there is clicking coming from the steering wheel when you turn left or right. and also a week after i purchased the vehicle the blower motor resister is bad. *tr
The vehicle was being driven when suddenly smoke starts coming from the engine compartment pulled over to check under the hood and flames began coming out closed the hood and the vehicle just burned down to the ground called 911 firefighter came and put out the fire it was all so fast its unreal. *tr
My 2004 chrysler pacifica stalls out of nowhere when i'm driving it can be when i'm driving at 5 miles or even 20,30 or even 50 miles or if i'm making a turn which is very scary when my steering wheel locks up on me. it also wont start all the time i've had my car in the shop over 20 time to find out what's going on, i've spent over 5,000.00 dollars trying to fix it but to no avail. i've been doing some research on this issue and there are tunes of people with the same problem on 04, 05, and 06 chrysler pacifica's but only the 05's have a recall on the pcm. i've had my gas line changed twice because i could only use half a tank be for it would drop to e and run out of gas and that was 3,000.00 within a year and that's been a big issue in the pacifica world also. i just don't understand why chrysler wont fix the problems on these suv's its clearly a safety issue that needs to be resolved. i've trusted chrysler with my family and it's scary to drive this car knowing it can and will shut off on me at any time and may not start back up. i don't have money to get a new car being a single mom of 4 that's why i purchased this car. now with all the problems that i'm having with it and no one knows what's wrong with it or how to fix it is a big headache. i took it to a mechanic that has a friend that works for chrysler dodge and jeep and they put there machines on my car and they couldn't find out what was going on with it as well and there's no code that was given they said i needed to change my starter and something else i cant remember the part but that was another 200.00 and its still not fixed now they say it has to be my pcm witch is another 1,500 that i don't have. i didn't expect to put all this money out to fix this car and it not getting fixed because chrysler doesn't know what's wrong with the 04 pacifica but i'm sure its the pcm just like the 05 and 06 models. *tr
I have had tons of mechanical issues with this vehicle and replaced 2 alternators within a couple months of each other, one was replaced about 3 weeks ago. i was driving in a school zone to drop my daughter off and the car just shut down. i have had to replace the starter, battery, alternators (2), and items with the tires and suspension. this car makes loud clinking noises and coming to a stop you can hear a loud knock sound. chrysler needs to be required to fix vehicles instead of saying they can't find anything wrong with them. *tr
The windshield wipers and electrical systems failed during a mild rain. we got the vehicle to a chrysler dealer and contracted for them to put it on the lift. we've learned that the main wiring harnesses on many 2004 pacificas - such as ours - have collected water for years due to their design on the 2004 pacifica, and have completely corroded. this substantially compromised our safety, as we exited the road having lost windshield wipers, all electrical, etc., we attempted to use the horn which also was no longer working. *tr
a follow up to earlier safety complaint.just ordered a computer for the affected vehicle and while describing the problem to the tech was informed that it is a well known problem affecting not only my pacifica but their town and country mini van as well. *tr
this vehicle has suffered through a wide variety of problems as outlined from online complaint boards. today has started sudden acceleration while stopped at traffic lights almost taking me into traffic your investigation on these are closed but i never had satisfaction speaking to chrysler officials and was informed by my dealer a couple of years ago that the vehicle was made by the ;old; company and the new company does not honor problems.what is disturbing is that a close inspection by me has revealed that the wiring harness going to the control computer was routed under the drivers side flexible motor mount and the harness has been damaged by the mount compressing this harness right on top of a bolt on the frame causing fraying of several control wires .the poor design has indeed created most of the problems with the vehicle and could cause wrecks and perhaps even deaths. chrysler has informed me they do not accept suggestions from the public but for the safety of the citizens still driving these vehicles,i see a lot on the road, please contact them as to this problem which while not covered under their warranty should be as this flaw only shows up with mileage. the wiring harness has not been priced by me yet but if past experience is the guide chrysler parts are significantly higher than competitors, even if the last 'genuine' part had product of south korea right on the box. the problem is poor design. *tr
My husband was driving and suddenly the car started smoking we pulled over, the fire fighters were called. they had to break the dashboard in order to stop the fire. they spray the car with water inside and out. car was total. the fire fighters thought that it was possibly the wire that stared the fire. radio and light on dashboard did not work in one point, it started working again by itself. *tr
While driving on busy road in the rain on 3 different occasions my headlights went out for no apparent reason...i did not realize that they had gone out until i was pulled over by a state trooper and given a ticket...also when my tank reaches 1/2 full the needle will drop to empty and the gas light will come on warning me that i have run out of gas even though i have 1/2 tank of gas in there, almost caused a pile up on the highway...low tire pressure light stays on even when i put air in all 4 tires. *js
On numerous occasions i will be driving my car and it will just stall out completely. i have no control over my car. there is no inclination that it is even going to happen. i have almost wrecked my car. at higher speeds my car jerks and stutters and will randomly shut off too. i will be stopping to make a right or left turn and my car will stall out and i have almost wrecked my car with my four children in the car!!!!!!! i see there is a recall on some chrysler pacifica's for this exact problem, but for some reason it is not on mine and it is a major issue!!! i am very concerned with my family's safety when driving my car.
Dash heater control panel--lamps for several functions have ceased working--blower fan, air conditioning, circulation/recirculation, front window defrost and rear window defrost making adjustments or changes at night impossible. there is no way to change bulbs according to the manufacturer service/shop manual. additionally, the function status (led) panel fades out leaving no information for what function is working, or what the status is, thus making changes impossible at anytime. inability to control environment--specifically the functions concerning visibility make the vehicle a hazard to drive when the controls are inoperative or impossible to use. *tr
Starting in 2011 my pacifica's electrical systems seem to be shutting down. first i lost the ability to open windows or use power locks on the passenger side. next i lost the cruise control function. now my check engine light appears intermittently. most recently the air bag light and alarm comes on but only intermittently. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the air bag warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for a diagnostic. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 97,000....updated 10-21-13 *bf the consumer stated the battery went dead. when the battery was replaced, the air bag light illuminated.
Have a 2004 chrysler pacifica i've had this truck for two years, i've always had a problem with the gas running out like water. i took my truck to chrysler for them to do a tune up, while there i told them about the problem. when i got back to pick upmy truck they told me that both of my fuel pumps were bad. it seems like they know what's wrong with these trucks and they just decided to tell everyone their fuel pumps are bad. anyway, i had the fuel pumps changed and the problem got worse. now if i put $10 in it the gauge will read 1/2 tank. if i fill it up once it gets to 1/2 tank it'll just drop to the e. once it reads e it cuts off. there could be a full tank of gas but it will still read e. i took it back to chrysler so many times they couldn't find anything wrong. the last time i went back up there, they said i need to replacethe whole tank. i know for a fact that replacing the tank won't fix it. to add to that, while i'm pumping gas the gas foams or it kicks back. i refuse to keep paying my money for them to keep playing the guessing game. if my truck shuts down completely or cause an accident i'm suing chrysler and everyone else!!! chrysler needs to fix the issue, there is a defect. i even called headquarters and they're saying they can't help because the truck is so many years old, and because of the mileage. thing is they knew what was wrong with these trucks. chrysler needs to fix this issue! !!!!! *tr
I bought my 2004 chrys. pacifica 2 months ago from a carlot. i test drove it and it was driving really good. i paid for it and pulled off the lot and it started trying to stall on my everytime i pushed the gas it would do it then stop for about a min then start again. it would jerk as it was trying to stall i finally made it home and called the carlot and they said to take it to their car shop so on my way there i stopped at autozone and hooked it up to their computer to see what it was that was messing up. the computer "said" it was the crank sensor. so we took it to the shop and they changed the crank sensor and the motor light went off and it stopped doing it. they had it for a week and that next friday when i got it back i drove it to pay a couple bills and it started it again it did it about 12 times until it finally stalled and would start back up but stall right away until it would not even start again. i left it in that spot and my husband come and picked me and my 3 kids up and the next day the shop said to bring it back to them and my husband went to pick it up and take it to the shop and it started right up and drove home no problem but the check engine light was still on then drove it to the shop and it done it 2 more times. the shop had it for another week and changed the crank sensor again and found out the motor mount was broke to and fixed that. i got the car back again and had it for 2 days and it started doing it again. took it to another shop and the shop said that it could be all the wiring harness and said it would cost me 3,000!!!!!!!! to fix i can not afford that so here i am only 2 months from buying a 10,000 dollar car that i can not drive this is terrible and something needs to be done about this happening to the same kind of cars all the time i am a mother of 3 and going to school and working i need my ...
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that all of the gauges on the instrument panel malfunctioned. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the electronic control module was defective as a result of an electrical short. the contact mentioned that the module was replaced three times. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance and referred him to nhtsa. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 88,000 and the current mileage was 90,000.
Headlamps - the headlamps had to be replaced due to light beams not coming through the clear plastic cover. the cover became cloudy and visibility was limited which caused safety concerns. the chrysler dealership tried to clean but was not successful. tire sensors - a year ago, we had an issue with the message center not responding to the tires. the chrysler dealership installed 1 tire sensor and several months later a new message center panel had to be replaced. a year later, we are replacing the other three sensors. we are told by the chrysler dealership that the batteries only last several years. they claim that these sensors are goverment regulated. why are we putting parts into american made cars that have to be replaced every several years that cost $100 for each sensor plus labor. either chrysler needs to produce a better sensor that lasts longer or the government should provide rebates since this is regulatory. these car issues should be considered a safety issue and reviewed for potential liabilities that can cause harm to the driver. *tr
After turning right at stop light and proceeding slowly with acceleration, a loud/shaking noise was heard from 2004 chrysler pacifica (similar to a cell phone placed on vibrate instead of ringing when a call is received). within seconds, vehicle unintentionally accelerated and i was unable to stop it, even after pressing on brakes. i was a block away from where i had to turn to enter our subdivision, traveling down a two-lane road. thankfully, no cars were traveling in opposite direction, or coming out of our subdivision, so i was able to turn left to enter our subdivision. to try to slow car down, i had to press down on brakes as hard as i could while turning the wheel, which caused the vehicle to swerve, almost hitting a light pole. after turning and stopping the swerve, the vehicle accelerated even further, reaching the '4' on the tachometer (before the turn, it had been at a '3'). as i approached the four-way stop in our subdivision, i again stepped on the brakes as hard as i could, but it had no effect. the tachometer read '4', but the speedometer showed 30 mph, regardless of how hard i pressed on brakes. i could not brake at all, and was losing the ability to steer as i approached the sign. the only way to stop the vehicle was to place it in 'park'(which made the tachometer go even higher) and remove the keys to turn off the car as quickly as i could. this stopped the car right in front of the stop sign. i waited about 30 seconds and attempted to restart car, but after ignition key was turned, tachometer revved up again to '4', though speedometer read '0'. husband maneuvered car the one block home by placing it in 'neutral'. this is the first incident of this nature. chrysler to be notified in morning, as i called after business hours (7:41 pm cst). myself, two kids, and two dogs were in the car driving down what is normally a busy two-lane road and into subdivision full of playing children, truly a miracle no one was injured. *tr

The blower switch is stuck on the highest mode and i am unable to turn off the blower and the blower will continue to run for about 10 seconds after engine is shut off. thus when i start my car the blower is on high . the car is a 2004 chrysler pacifica. has there been any reports from other owners with this issue? the dealer, jolly john in saco maine, says they will need to remove my dashboard to determine what is causing this and will cost approximately, at least $1,000.00. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated while driving various speeds the vehicle would suddenly stall without warning. the failure occurred on an intermittent basis. the vehicle was towed to a dealer who advised her that the control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and advised her that there were no recalls. the failure mileage was approximately 109,700.
On dec 19, 2008 my 2004 pacifica started stalling when driving home from work, it did this approximately (20) times in rush hour traffic. i would put it in neutral and some times it would start up immediately and sometimes it would delay by several minutes. i drove the car to my mechanics; which was closed, and left it there, the next day it would not act up for him and he ran a diagnostic that showed him nothing. although he did find a recall on the pcm needing reprogrammed for stalling issues. we then took it to shuman chrysler in walled lake, mi. and dropped it off. they replaced the solenoid and confirmed that the reprogramming was done prior to this problem. cost was $237.50. on christmas eve on a busy road the car stalled out again, and took several attempts before it kept running. here we were sitting in a dead car, on one of the most widely known evenings with drunks on the road. we proceeded to our destination and at the end of the evening we had someone follow us home with my elderly mother in their car. we took it back to the dealership on the 26th and they replaced the ground to the transmission case from the battery. no charge this time. on the 27th the car stalled again 3 times on us, we got to our destination and disconnected the battery to reboot the computer and it worked until dec 30th, when the dealership picked it up from the location where it would not start, right before the tow truck started loading it; it started and quit again. it has been at the dealership ever since. today january 7, 2009 the dealership called and will be ordering a new pcm, and a power distribution module. it was explained to me that the module is responsible for not starting and the pcm is responsible for the stalling or the shorting out. the cost will be $1200. i will call them tomorrow and ask for the parts to be saved. i am not done with this. countless reports have been tracked and the reprogramming did not fix the chrysler problem, and neither will they. *tr
Car will not start on first try on a normal basis. have changed battery and starter. car also stalls. when it does start after about 30 tries or 30 min i have to put my foot on the gas pedal to keep it started. i have gone to many sites on line by typing in starting and stalling problems on line. there are many people having this problem and no one seems to know what the problem is. people along with myself are spending a great deal of money to try to fix this problem. chrysler has to know what this problem is with all these cars having the same problems but they don't seem to care about our problems and the money that we are loosing every month. i fear that i am going to be stranded with my children because my car won't start or stalls. i just want to know what is wrong with this car. i know if they tell everyone what is wrong with this car they will have to fix the thousands of peoples cars that are in need of repair and that big company does not want to do that for the little people of the country who trusted them. they have received billions of dollars in tax payer money and they should come clean and fix these cars or at least tell us what is wrong so that we can fix them for good. please help all of us. i am a single mother and can not afford to try so many different things that are not the problem. i ask again. please help us. *tr
