We have classified the 85 complaints from 2004 Chrysler Pacifica about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
I have a 2004 chrysler pacifica and it has major problems with starting. i have been in very remote placing and the car will not start. after about 15 to 20 attempts the car may turn over. i have changed the battery and the starter as well with not improvements. i have read numerous accounts of others having this problem and chrysler will not do anything about it. this car is not safe or reliable. *tr
1. driving home from work, 6 pm heading east on hwy 119 waiting to turn left on wc rd 3.5. ting , ting sound, warning lights came on and vehicle caught on fire. put out with hose and disconnected battery. alternator was glowing orange, engine harness smoking, ground straps burned off, and air cleaner on fire. towed to chrysler dealer and chrysler said it was not a mechanical defect, but i disagree. the consequence is i have a damaged car. *tr
I recently purchased a 2004 chrysler pacifica. in the past 3 months, most of the electrical system has started malfunctioning. the air vents have "stuck" where air will only blow through the dash vents keeping the defrost vents from working which makes it unusable to drive in rain or cold weather. the dash displays and lights have stopped working totally. the fuel gauge will suddenly swing from the correct position to either full or empty, then go back to normal after a couple of minutes. the headlights work intermittently and go off with no notice. we are currently unable to drive the vehicle at night, during rain and whenever the temperature gets below about 50 degrees. it has also started intermittently shutting off during driving at any speed. this vehicle is now totally unsafe. i have taken it to 5 different dealers to be looked at. one replaced a computer module, which did nothing. another replaced an electronic module for the headlights, which again did nothing. two couldn't figure it out after each having the vehicle at least 1 week each. the fifth said that the entire electrical system (wiring harnesses, computers and modules) would have to be replaced at a cost of over $4000! he stated that the electronics on the early model pacificas is known to start shorting out by the dealers and that they "piece meal" it together by replacing part after part until most or all of it is replaced. from the odi site i see that this seems to be a continuing wide spread problem with the early pacificas and wonder why chrysler can continue to ignore this problem. paying quite a bit of money for a vehicle and being unable to use it because you don't want someone to get hurt or killed seems like a big enough issue that chrysler would be ordered to recall and fix this issue. i would trade the car in but no dealer will touch it now. one offered me $500 for the same vehicle he sold me a year ago for $14,000. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. when the contact starts the vehicle, the fuel gauge dial fluctuates up and down at random. the fuel light illuminates and a sound is heard as well. the dealer stated that the fuel gauge pedometer failed. the contact was informed that there were no recalls, but learned of a technical service bulletin. he believes that the vehicle should be under a recall for this failure. the dealer refused to repair the vehicle; therefore, the contact was responsible for the repair cost. the failure mileage was 68,729. updated 6/9/08 *cn
The car leaks in heavy rain and snow. from the sunroof and the sides of both front passenger doors, the water comes out through the side impact air bags and electrical panels. this somehow also causes the car battery to die. *tr
My car has completely shut off on me on 4 different occasions. the first time the dealership said it was a fuel line problem and cleaned the fuel line system. the second time the problem happened, leaving me stranded on the side of the road again, the dealership changed a sensor. the 3rd time, same scenario, the dealership told me that they 2nd occasion the "computer" gave them a fault, but the first time it didn't so they fixed what they "thought" the problem could be. on the 3rd occasion, they told me that when the 2nd event happened it gave them a fault that could have meant that one of two sensors had gone bad. they said that if the car was under warranty they would have just replaced both sensors. since the car was out of warranty, they just replaced the one "that usually goes bad." so on my 3rd trip to the dealership, they replaced the second sensor and of course i had to pay for the labor again. the parts themselves cost $20 each and if asked the first time if i wanted to replace both sensors like they would for a warranty repair, i would certainly had agreed. my 4th event happened 4 weeks ago. my car is still at dealership i type this. they say they have no idea what is wrong with the car, but that they can tear the car apart and check out the wiring and if that's the problem, it will cost $6000 to fix. just to diagnosis the problem i have to pay a minimum of $240 which they tell me may not diagnosis the problem at all. i feel that this vehicle is a huge safety hazard. it only has 30,000 miles on it and has given me nothing but trouble since i purchased it as the second owner on february 28, 2007. the car just shuts off while driving each time leaving me stranded with my 2 young children where ever we are. each time i have had to wait for a tow truck to arrive to take us to safety. i hope that others have this same complaint and that chrysler will do something to make this right. *tr
Incident occurred four times over last two days. driving on urban divided highway at approximately 55 mph at steady speed on a flat, relatively straight section of highway, fuel gauge began fluctuating. fluctuations of the needle swung from the current fuel state of just over indicated half tank of fuel to the completely empty indication. low fuel warning light illuminated when needle fell below the critical point for illumination. other swings of the needle ranged from current state to anything below the current state and returned to proper indication. no fuel was lost. no leaks. n each incident, after approximately three minutes of erroneous readings, the fuel gauge returned to normal indications. *ak
07/05/07 customer reported blower motor noisy, chrysler checked and found blower motor noisy and replaced the blower motor. cost to customer $179.00. on 08/11/10 blower motor noisy on high speeds, chrysler removed and replaced the blower motor. cost to customer $256.00. on 07/05/12 customer experiencing same problem with noisy blower motor. will need to take vehicle to dealer to have blower motor replaced again. *tr
I have a 2004 chrysler pacifica. my wife and kids were at the store went in for five minutes came back out and the car would not start. by the way it was about 10 degrees out at the time. thank god there was someone around to jump start the car. my wife finally got to where she was going and shut the car down and tried to start it immediately after and it would not start it would just click. thirty minutes later she went out the car started. all weekend the car would start then the next time it would not. this has happened too many times to us we do not know if we are going to make where we need to go or not. this has happened ten to fifteen times to this vehicle. *jb
The contact states that batterywas leaking acid. when this happens it disabled the cruise control. *ak
Tl* - the contact stated that he purchased his 2004 chrysler pacifica and two weeks later, the vehicle stalled frequently. the contact stated while driving 25-35 mph the engine will shut off. to restart the vehicle the contact had to put the vehicle in neutral; however there have been occasions when the vehicle would not restart. the dealer is unable to diagnose the failure.
Tl*- the contact stated that the 2004 chrysler pacifica had stalling problems. she stated that 2 months ago while driving at 55 mph she looked down at the dashboard and noticed that entire dashboard display failed. the power steering locked, and she tried to pull the vehicle over to the side of the road. the vehicle lost power. she called warwick chrysler jeep dealership, and was informed that this would have to happen again ,and that the engine light has to come on in order for them to do anything. the contact drove the vehicle for about 2 months and nothing happened, but she did notice that when starting the vehicle the dashboard lights were very dim, the gps lights were dim also. while driving on 02/07/07 at 55 mph the vehicle stalled on the highway again. she stated that the entire dash, the gps, the steering cut completely off. she sta she had a satellite radio plugged into the hot plug, that was directly connected to the battery and that didn't shut off. the contact took the vehicle to warwick, and they informed her that they needed to update the computer which cost them $140.00. the contact stated that she found on the internet a service bulletin for the same problem. the contact found recalls 06v432000 & 04v113000 for 2004-2006 vehicles. the current mileage was 68111, and the failure mileage was 62500.*ak
I have a 2004 chrysler pacifica and i have been experiencing starting/stalling problems with it. the problems started within 9 months of my purchase date. each time the dealership wasn't able to re-create. i had the battery replaced but i am still having the problem. it is now at the dealership after being towed because it wouldn't start and of course they can't duplicate the problem. i have logged a complaint on the carspace.com. i asked my service manager if he was aware of the starting/stalling problem with the pacifica and he told me no. please help me. *jb
Our 2004 chrysler pacifica has stalled multiple times and been taken to the dealership. they cannot reproduce the problem and therefore say they cannot do any repairs. the key turns and makes a sound and shuts off, sometimes after several attempts it will start and we have taken it directly to the dealership, they cannot get any computer readings. *nm
Power liftgate begins failing in cool weather (approx 40 degrees f). liftgate will fail to latch and will drain battery. *jb
Tl* - the contact has a 2004 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the clock display turns off, the gas gauge needle floats up and down, and electrical equipment would go dim. the contact stated that the gas gauge registers the fuel as low when the gas tank is almost full and that a rear interior light goes on. also, the dvd player switches songs as if it were searching for radio stations. the child safety locks for her windows only work occasionally. the heater doesn't always turn on, but when it does it cannot be adjusted unless the power to the vehicle is turned off. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled twice while she was driving 55 mph with an odometer reading of 58000 miles. during one of the stalling incidents she was trying to change lanes, but the car would not accelerate, so she pulled over onto the median where the car turned off. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and resume driving. *nm
My 2004 pacifica will not start at times. sometimes 2 weeks can go by without incident, but then the car will not start until i hold my foot on the gas. the dealer claims that unless it happens while at their shop, they cannot do anything. also, the drivers side memory mirror will change position and make a sound like gears trying to engage but cannot. again, the dealer could not find a problem although it happens each time i use it. i complained about the transmission being sluggish from a parked position, they told me they could not find a problem. i asked them to drive it. they claim the motor mount was broken. they said it happened because of a fender bender i was in. the fender bender occurred two months after purchasing the car and i have been driving it two years since that event without problem. my headliner keeps sagging where the headliner meets the moonroof. they have fixed it now three times each time using sticky tape. it doesn't work. *jb

Driving road speed, the 2004 pacifica with gauge reading "150 miles to empty" stalls and the gauge read "38 miles to empty". cannot restart but upon adding 2.5 gal of gas, started again. stalling occurred at least 5x within a week. dealer installed solenoid 8059043 and body control module (bcm) but did not correct the problem. *jb
The chrysler pacifica 2004 is an extremely dangerous vehicle. the car stalled three times on me on the highway where i nearly got into an accident. another time, the right axle came off and the car rolled down a hill and nearly hit a woman. i could have killed people many times with the pacifica since it is an extremely dangerous vehicle to drive. i found out that many people have these exact same issues. please do something about it before it gets too late. thank you. *nm
2004 chrysler pacifica: ignition switch failed to engage the starter on the first attempt to start. second attempt would engage the starter. this scenario continued for one week. eventually the ignition switch failed to engage the starter completely, which left me stranded. ignition switch, and ignition switch housing had to be replaced due to a portion of the housing breaking off inside the switch. (defective part is available)*jb
2004 pacifica key would not turn in ignition. *ts the ignition cylinder had to be drilled out and replaced. *jb
This vehicle has had the siphoning hoses to the gas tank replaced three times. which all three failed all three times. the fuel pump has been changed. the whole fuel tank has been replaced. the gas gauge fluctuates from half tank to empty. the check engine light comes on every week. after resetting by the serviceman it comes back on with in a week. all of these safety defects have been repaired however it remains doing all of the above leaving this vehicle to be very unsafe. please note this so that any others may have this to refer to. *tr
This car has had an on-going issue of stalling, lights turning off/going out, and automatic seat/mirror/radio position changes. 31 dec 05 at approximately 1515, after driving 4+/- miles, i turned into a driveway, backed into a turnaround, pulled forward and backed up to a garage. i put the car in park, set the parking brake, turned the key to off and removed the key. the engine was still running with the key out of the ignition. i placed the key back into the ignition, turned it to run, turned it to off. this time the engine quit, however, the dash remained lighted. i turned the key to start, but the starter would not engage. i turned the key to off and removed the key. all dash lights remained on. the car was towed to martin chevrolet, jeep, chrysler for repairs. this is the 8th trip for this issue. in all of the previous issues, since there was no code set in the computer, the dealer concluded there to be nothing wrong with the vehicle. in this instance, the dealer was able to "see" the defect, however, there still was no code in the computer. *jb
2005 chrysler pacifica stalled when i was making a left hand turn. i put it in park and then started it back up. dealership said that they would look at it on monday, which is 4 days away. i know that other people have had this same problem. i just hope that it can get fixed before someone gets hurt. i will let you know what the resolution is, although i know they are going to say that they couldn't duplicate the problem, and send me on my way. *nm
Our 2004 chrysler pacifica sometimes will not start and when is does sometimes it dies when you are driving it down the road. the dealership and chrysler tells me unless the problem happens for the garage they can not fix it. even if that means at some point in time it dies and we crash. *nm
Car does not start! when starting, a loud clicking noise happens, and engine will not start. need a jump start often. have brought it to dealer they cannot find anything wrong. *jb
On at least 3 occasions since purchasing a 2004 chrysler pacifica as a used vehicle in jan. 2005, my husband or i have inadvertently hit the ignition switch with our knee and turned off the engine while driving. one occasion while we driving on the highway at 65 mph when my husband moved his foot from the accelerator after turning on cruise control. the other two incidents have been at low speeds in our neighborhood while moving foot from the accelerator to the brake pedal. design defect that needs to be corrected. *jb
2004 chrysler pacifica. consumer states several problems with vehicle related to the engine, air conditioner blower and alternator *tgw the consumer stated when the vehicle was first purchased, the air conditioner blower was not working properly and had to be replaced. later that year, there was a whining sound coming from the front of the vehicle near the engine, however the dealer was unable to find the source and to this day, the noise is still present. the consumer stated there was a whining sound coming from or near the power steering pump which was eventually replaced, however the noise continued. the motor mounts, tie rods and rocker arms were replaced. *jb
Transmission unit failure. has been to the dealer 3 times that i can remember. clicking popping noise in the transmission or axle. "fixed" 3 times 2) 3 electrical problems a) display for heating and ac went out. it was repaired b) display for message center went out. it was repaired c) the gas guage would "go empty" then "refill" all while driving. it was repaired 3) now i just found gear oil on my garage floor, the rear axle seals are leaking.i'll be calling the dealer tomorrow. *ak
While idling, the car shut off and would not start again. had the car towed to a dealer for repair. after 2 days of looking for the cause the dealer could not find any reason for the car to have shut off and not started again.*ak
Parked car for three days on five different occasions and the power supply was dead when i tried to start the car. the dealer said i must remove a module under the hood anytime that i leave the car for more then two days. this process is not acceptable and causes problems for anyone who travels and leaves their car in a lot while flying. they state that they are aware of the problem but have no fix for it. *jb
2004 pacific (6 months old) and 9,000 miles would not start until jumped. had to be jumped twice in 1 week to start car when we were away on vacation. appears to be lose connection between alternator and battery. dealer couldn't find a problem but said when it happens again have it towed and they'll fix it then. *ak
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle began to shake and made a thumping sound. the vehicle also tends to pull to the right. the vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer, but the failure continues. the current mileage was 51,200 and failure mileage was 6,000. updated 6/16/08 *cn the left rear seatbelt would not retract, the outer tie rod ends, the blower motor and resistor were replaced because the vehicle didn't have any heat, the battery was stalling. the heated seat were not working. updated 06/16/08*jb
My 2004 chrysler pacifica had a fire in the rear side wall on the driver's side. the car was parked and unoccupied when this happened. i contacted chrysler and an investigator was sent. the investigator told me the "hottest part" or starting point for the fire seems to be in or around the rear of the motor for the rear wiper blades which was inside the side wall of the car. i received a form letter from chrysler stating the report was inconclusive and they have no liability. i do not agree with their report and have requested a copy of their investigator's report which they have refused to send. the is no way this fire and damaged caused by this fire was anything other than a defect or problem with either wiring or a motor inside the side wall of the car. *tr
2004 chrysler pacifica - purchased river oaks chrysler houston:1) i have had on-going minor problems with this vechicle since i purchased it. these problems have required for me to take the car in to the river oaks chrysler service department on a regular basis during the past year (lemon?). 2) yesterday october 18, i experienced one of the worst problems with this car. i was leaving my neighborhood and was at a stop sign. i started to make a left turn when i heard a loud noise as if metal was breaking and cracking. the car started to shake violently. i had to grab onto the steering wheel very hard to control it. i had trouble steering it as the wheels did not seem to want to move. i was able to pull it to the side and get assistance (i feel fortunate that it did not happen on the hgway, as the consequences would probably not have been good). the car has 20,000 miles. i do not travel far as i am a stay home mom and most of my driving is doing errands and taking my kids to school. the car was towed to river oaks, chrysler in houston where the car is sitting in their service department. the latest i heard was that the axle broke. my concern is that this is a 1 year old car and it had a major failure such as this one. so many things have gone wrong with this vechicle that i find it unreliable and unsafe and i hate for something like this to happen to someone else. thank you for your attention to this matter. leesbeth silva. *ak
I purchased the car from carmax 08/03, with 500 miles on it. at the end of 09/04, with 2200 miles, i began to have problems with the fuel light. i took it in for service for the fuel light on 10/6, 10/11, 12/18, and 12/27/04. each time service said it was due to a gas cap not being tightend, and or gas was being topped off. they didn't tell me they replaced a c34 fuel line clip on 12/18, and on 12/27 they replaced the egr system. i continued to have the same problems 1/11 and 1/17/05. on 1/17/05 they replaced a detector for general evap system failure/replace nvld pump. 1/25/05, service again for the headlamps not working, they found no problem. i was not told they did a recall on 10/06/04 on the auto transmission powertrain controle module. i found out, via the internet there was a recall on the headlamps, and they could go out anytime. i received another recall in the mail on the seat control module and drivers door handle, so i took the car in for both recalls 03/31/05. i got home that evening, and now i can't get into the car through the driver's side! this whole car is a lemon and should be recalled! *ak
While driving 60 mph electrical system failed. as a result, vehicle stalled, and consumer had to veer of the road. a recall was issued for the electrical system and was repaired, however the problem recurred. *ak
My pacifica has had power memory seats repaired 5 times. my air compressor repaired x2. a "dampener" placed to try and minimize the noise from the a/c. the dash electronic module replaced x1. the wheel plastic covering just came off while driving. my tire pressure sensors have had to be reset x2. the exhaust made a rattling noise that had to be repaired. the right front bumper had to be tighten as excessive wind noise was heard by service dealer. it still makes an audible clicking, knocking type noise on acceleration that they claim to be unable to duplicate. it has a loud pop on sharp right turns. and the a/c still cycle abrubtly and loudly approx every 30-45 seconds. i have had the car since aug 2003 and chrysler refuses to accept responsiblity and allow me another vehicle without obtaining a lawyer. i clearly exceeds the minimum criteria for the lemon law. this vehicle has been a huge inconvenience to my family and i. chrysler states there is nothing to be repaired on my vehicle and will not help me in any way. i love the vehicle when it is problem free wich is rare and i just want them to step up to the plate and stop giving me the run around. it has been repaired way to many times already.*ak
Remote fob is integrated in key has a small hole for the key loop spring. when driving on a long trip, i adjusted positions on legs and bumped the keys that hang down. due to small hole, the hanging keys don't fall out of way, but rather create a rigid link that creates the key to turn from "on" to "off" and locks steering wheel. fortunately, when it happened, i noticed it right away and was on a straight road (but going 65 mph with a locked steering wheel). *jb
I have talked to the dealership about the gas mileage that my vehicle is getting. it is supposed to get 17 in town and 24 highway. i am only getting 12.8 in town and 13 on the highway. they tell me to wait until it gets to 5,000 miles and it will get better. well, i'm at 4,660 and it is still bad!! definitely not the mileage posted on the dealership papers in the window of my car when i purchased it 5 months age. they wouldn't even write it up for the tech's to look at while it was there for battery problems. i'm taking it in again. *jb
On 7 separate occasions vehicle failed to start. when this occurred vehicle was towed to the dealership, who replaced the battery/transmission, and main computer. also, did a software upgrade. the failure recurred. *ak
2004 chrysler pacifica developed problems with stalling, dead battery, rear window inoperative, faulty fuel gauge, dashboard lights flickering and security system inoperative.***no answer required***. *mr the seat belt was inoperative. *jb
My 2004 chrysler pacifica has been in for service 6x and has currently been at the dealership for 3 weeks now. the most recent problem was electrical - the dash display that indicates speed, fuel gauge, etc. went black while driving and all the interior lights illuminated. they have not determined the problem and chrysler wants me to pick up the vehicle although no repair was made. the car has been svc. for brakes, transmission, motor mount broken, fan assembly not completed during assembly, vehicle wouldn't start and battery was replaced. the vehicle is unsafe!
Fuse for dashlights, guages, gps system,a/c systms. and radio burns out while driving and when it happens at nite, it causes quite a frite, dealer has had it now three times in two months . this last time for 7 days and still has'nt a clue. i myself have replaced the burned fuses at least 10 times. *ak
The power windows, locks, mirrors, keyless remote entry and power seats all stopped working at the same time. the trunk also would not unlock to open. we have owned the car for three days.*ak
