Problems with 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER

On average, the 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER and its various aspects after 53 937 miles.

Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER problems on 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

We have a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer whose fuel gauge became erratic and unreliable. we had it repaired. the sensor part was $135.44 and the labor was $254.61 plus shop supplies and sales taxes. i became aware that thousands of such fuel gauge problems have been happening. *tr

I herewith request that nhtsa opens an investigation into the performance/reliability of the fuel level sensor installed in model year 2006 chevrolet trailblazer vehicles. in case the fuel tank level sensor is or becomes defective it could result in a subject vehicle running out of fuel, stall, and being rear ended by another vehicle. the currently owned chevrolet trailblazer 2006 has already the third fuel sensor. the first replacement took place when the vehicle was 6 months old, the second replacement took place in spring 2010. gm customer service and the chevrolet repair shop denied a malfunction of the involved fuel sensor. i am still in possession of the third (old) sensor. complaints to adelco, the supplier of the fuel sensor did not lead to an result either. never received a satisfying answer from gm nor from adelco. in the internet i found multiple complaints from other trailblazer owners regarding the fuel sensor. since my vehicle has the fourth fuel sensor i do have problems again (fuel cap not properly closed warning light comes on sometimes, engine/emission failure light comes on sometimes). gm customer service in detroit told me to go tomy local chevy dealer and ask them to review the problem and estimate the cost. i was told they would afterwards make a decision to reimburse me for the cost. after the repair service gm and the dealer declined the reimbursement request and claimed the part failed because of the high mileage. the replaced sensor was for only 40000 miles in the vehicle. the second fuel sensor was installed before i purchased the car from a gm dealer (was never told about that problem). *tr

I have a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer ls. the gas gauge stopped working over a year ago. after checking with the chevrolet dealer, this seems to be a common, well known problem. gm needs to recall these vehicles and fix this problem. *kb

My fuel level sensor was replacement internet showing defects with part on the trailblazer and gm is not doing a recall but they know this is a defect. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel level gauge would continuously read inaccurate fuel levels. on one occasion, the contact ran out of gasoline ,yet the fuel level gauge did not display that the fuel tank was empty. in addition, when the vehicle was out of gasoline, the horn would not operate. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the fuel sending unit would need replacing. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 42,000 and the current mileage was 51,000. updated 11/11/10 *bf updated 11/18/10

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel gauge malfunctioned; it would display a full, empty or a half tank when the tank was full. the vin was unavailable at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was approximately 45,000. the current mileage was approximately 48,000.

The fuel sensor for my 2006 chevy trailblazer went out so it reads empty all the time. doing internet research it seems this is a common problem with the trailblazer and is a safety issue. i have children and live in a extreme weather climate. *tr

The gas gauge began to malfunction, indicating that the tank was empty when it was not or inaccurately measuring the amount of fuel. this also triggers the engine light to go on and now happens consistently when the vehicle is turned on. the vehicle has 60,000 miles and the part was replaced for $530. *tr

Gas gauge in 2006 chevy trailblazer went out and is stuck on "e". never know when you will run out of gas, which is a hazard on the roadways. car only has 39,300 miles on it. *tr

About last january my gas gauge started acting up. i would fill my tank with gas and the gas gauge would read empty and the low fuel light would come on and the engine light came on. the gauge would bounce around and cause my low fuel light to go on and turn off. the audible advisor would ding at me 5 times everytime it hit empty. now, today, my check engine light is on constantly and the gas gauge is stuck at empty and the low fuel light is on constantly. this started to occur at around 68,000miles and now i am at about 72,000. i have checked with a couple repair shops and they state that the fuel sensor is defective and it will cost me approximately $800 to repair. to date i have not had the problem repaired. i use my trip odometer and fill up around every 250 miles. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact was driving approximately 50 mph on normal road conditions. the driver observed the fuel gauge displayed an inaccurate reading intermittently. the failure occurred at any given fuel level capacity. the vehicle is in the process of being taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. the failure mileage was 74,302. the vin was unavailable.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 45 mph, the contact observed that the fuel gauge reading fluctuated and suddenly failed to operate. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they stated that the fuel tank sensor was defective. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 105,000. updated 2/28/11 *cn updated 03/03/11

The fuel gauge on my 2006 chevy trailblazer has not worked for approximately a year and a half. when i fill the tank, the gauge shows empty, with the low fuel light on. after fill up, the check engine light is on. after using several gallons, the check engine light turns off, but the fuel gauge still shows empty. i have had to depend on mileage readings in order to know when to fill up. i have spoke to the local dealer and was told this was a common complaint. *tr

The gas gauge on my trail blazer stopped working and always shows empty. *kb

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the fuel gauge inaccurately displays the amount of fuel present in the fuel tank. usually the gauge when indicate fuel, when there was not fuel present. the vehicle has not been inspected, because the dealer while charge a diagnostic fee. the current mileage was 43,200. the failure mileage 42,800.

I have just under 40,000 miles on my chevrolet trailblazer and the fuel level sensor began malfunctioning. it reads empty when the tank is full and even jumps from full to empty to full again. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that when the fuel tank was full, the fuel level gauge would read between empty and one-half full. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was advised that the failure was common for his make and model, yet there was not a recall for the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileage was approximately 51,000.

2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the gas gauge shows the tank is empty even after fill up. the gauge will then go up and down from full to empty and back again. have already ran out of gas when it first happened, the gauge showed less than half a tank and then showed no gas, but i was empty and dead on the road with the baby in the car in the middle of the night, alone. *tr

My fuel gauge stopped working. the gauge would show half full when full-or 1/4 when half full-now it doesn't work and the empty warning lite is on. i use the mileage to gage when to get gas. i took my truck in to fix and was quoted 700 to 900. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trail blazer. whenever fuel was added to the fuel tank; the fuel gauge displayed an inaccurate reading. the failure occurred at various fuel levels. the technician stated the failure was contributed to the fuel sensor which required replacement. the vehicle has not been repaired. the contact had concerns of the safety risk involved. the failure mileage was 25,000. the current mileage was 27,000.

Faulty fuel gauge. *tr

Gas gauge failure. always shows vehicle on empty and causes the "check engine" light to illuminate. also causes continuous alarm dings as to "low fuel". *tr

Fuel gauge malfunction. fuel gauge will register as empty whether there is gas or no gas in the tank. gradual degradation. this also cause the check engine light to become engaged frequently. approximately $700 to resolve problem. *tr

Fuel gauge goes back and forth from empty to over half a tank to a 1/4 tank. this will be the third time we will have to take it in for the fuel sensor. it is costly and i feel gm should pay the full repair bill or replace the vehicle. the trailblazer has also turned off while driving for no apparent reason and no lights come on. this has happened about three times which is very dangerous when you are out on the road. any help we can get to repair would help being that this has proved to be very costly. *js

I have a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer ls. september 2009 is when it happened. the fuel sensor went out on my vehicle and now i have to get it repaired possibly to pass my fuel emissions inspection. i didn't have it repaired because that it was going to cost me like $400 to get it fixed. i don't have that kind of money to get it fixed but now i have to for it to pass inspection. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel gauge did not function properly. it would fluctuate between empty and full. the failure progressed until the gauge always read empty. the contact called the manufacturer and was offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 89,000. the current mileage was approximately 94,000.

My 2006 chevrolet trailblazer has a defective fuel sensor. the fuel gauge constantly stays yellow - indicating empty - regardless of actual fuel level, causing me to use only my tripometer to gauge the amount of mileage i have left on a tank of fuel. it also causes the engine light to come on whenever i fill up. as my vehicle is out of warranty, the repair would cost approximately $1000 to fix an issue that i'm finding out is a prevalent issue with the several gm products - with no recourse through chevrolet. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the fuel gauge on the instrument control panel displays inaccurate readings. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. he was advised that the repair cost $900.00, since the warranty expired. the failure mileage was 47,000

2006 chevrolet trailblazers gas gauge fail. gas gauge stops working and stays on empty. you have to keep up with the miles or spend major money just to have it worked on. i have researched it and looks like it is a major problem. chevrolet seems to not care about the problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the fuel gauge displays inaccurate readings on the instrument control panel. usually it displays fuel when the fuel tank was empty. he was advised that the repair cost $600.00. no repairs were made. he has not been provided with any assistance by the gm manufacturer. the failure mileage was 65,000.

my 2006 brand new chevy trailblazer odometer completely failed in 2009. i did not think much about it until my brother, and sister both complained about the same issue on their new vehicles what makes it so bad is that the gauge is in the tank, and the cost to fix the problem at the dealership was $700. when i saw that an investigation was ongoing, i wanted to log my complaint. this cannot be a coincidence. *tr

In my 2006 chevy trailblazer, the gas sensor does not work and caused the check engine light to come on intermittently as well as causing the fuel gauge to remain on empty regardless of the actual fuel level. i have had the car diagnosed and was informed that it was the sensor in the gas tank and the repair would cost me $500 to replace a part that would ultimately fail again. gm has refused to cover partial expenses of this repair even though they are aware of said problem. i first notified gm on 6/23/2009 and they have yet to issue a recall. there is currently an open investigation :action number dp10001. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated the fuel gauge displayed an inaccurate fuel reading; whenever fuel was added to the fuel tank at any capacity level. the failure became progressively worse which resulted in the fuel gauge reading at zero. the vehicle was not repaired when the complaint was filed. the current mileage was 54,000. the failure mileage was 40,000.

Fuel gauge malfunctions. needle does not move from the empty position on a 2006 trailblazer occurring at approx 52000 mile reading on the odometer. *tr

I am the un-proud owner of a 2006 chevy trailblazer. the gas gauge quit working after getting gas one day. the gas light and my service engine light now stay on consistantly. i was told it will cost me around $800 to repair - $600 for labor and $200 for parts. i live in a rural area and a snowy part of the states and have a small child - this needs to be a recall issue. it is not safe to "guess" how many miles you can go on a tank of gas. *tr

I have a 2006 chevy trailblazer, and the fuel gauge no longer works. when i fill up the gas tank, the gauge stays on empty and the low fuel light stays on. the check engine light will come on right after i fill up and it will go off at about 50 miles. it comes on again around 270 miles. i have ran out of gas twice, because the mileage wasn't reset after getting a few gallons of gas (someone else had put fuel in my trailblazer). i have not had it fixed, since it will cost over $800.00. so far there has not been any wrecks or injuries because of this safety issue. i hope something can be done before there is an accident. *tr

My 2006 chevy trailblazer had only 60k miles on it when the fuel gauge quit working. it always reads empty so i have no way of knowing how much fuel remains in the tanks. i understand that many trailblazers are having this problem. *tr

I currently own a 2006 chevy trailblazer. i had just hit the 40,000 mile mark and started having problems with the gas gauge reading empty and the check engine light staying on. i was told to replace the gas cap due to a possible vacuum seal no longer working, that did not correct the problem. i am now tracking my mileage in order to know how much gas i have because as a working mother of three, i cannot not afford the $900 - $1000 to repair the issue. this is definitely a recall issue that should be addressed by gm. *tr

Upon filling my gas tank at a local gas station, the check engine light came on and my gas gauge began to go haywire with many fuel level fluctuations. my local dealer told me that my gas cap was defective, which i then replaced. the check engine light went out a few days later, but my gas gauge continues to malfunction. i am now told that a replacement of the sensor will cost between $800 to $1000 and that my extended warranty does not cover this. internet research has revealed hundreds of similar complaints. this company has received my tax dollars for a bailout only to expect more money for a defect that is obviously poor quality parts and workmanship. *tr

After fill up fuel gauge went to empty. i was erratic for a couple refills, but now quit working. *tr

Fuel gauge reads empty when it is full. *tr

On topix web site there is about 50 or more complaints including me about chevy cars mine 2006 trailblazer under 29,000 mile and 3 year old fuel pumps(fuel gauge) the money that i have to pay to fix it would feed my family for two - three months on this crisis for money and jobs now,,,,,,help,,push to recall,,, no more gm , they got my tax money for bailout they should care more ,,, *tr

Gas gauge on 2006 chevy trailblazer faulty. does not show correct amount of gas in tank. i notified gm saying i did not think it was right for the gauge to be bad already because it was only a 2006 vehicle. i was given the run around and they basically said they would not fix it. *tr

Traction control lights on and off intermittently. i had a sensor replaced that was located in the steering column behind the airbag and that worked for a few weeks but it is back to going on and off. that sensor and labor cost me $500.00 total because i had to have it looked at 3 times. fuel gauge always reads empty. i have done some research on the fuel gauge problem and there are a ton of the same problems out there. this should be a recall immediately. i have to get the fuel pump and sensor replaced at a cost of $800.00 to $1000.00. the trouble started at about 55,000 miles. shame on chevrolet for letting this go on. they know about the problem and wont do a recall to help the little guy. all i've ever owned is chevy's....but no more!!! *tr

After leaving the gas station with a full tank, i noticed that the gas gauge was registering empty. after a few minutes it read full. the next day it read empty again even though i had not driven the vehicle more than 10 miles after the fill up. it read full again a couple days later and now it doesn't work at all. *tr

I have a 2006 chevy trailblazer and the gas gauge quit working and the light stays on the whole time. dealerships want $600.00 to repair it and it also happened as my warranty expired. *tr

Gas gauge fluctuates between 3/4 full and empty, usually staying on empty. *tr

Acs/ service stabilitrak light comes on while driving and to get it to go off i have to stop and turn the vehicle off and back on again. also fuel gauge goes from full to empty even on a full tank of gas. when i turn my heat on it will only work on numbers 1-4. number 5 is completely out. also there's a squeak in my brakes that i cant get to go away. i replaced the rotors and brakes and had 2 new front wheel speed sensors put on because i was told that was what was causing the service stabilitrak light to come on. but that didn't fix my problem either. i have been told that because i bought my vehicle used and it had miles on it when purchased that nothing is covered under a warranty. *tr

Fuel gauge stopped working at 49,000 miles. fuel gauge reads all over the place and trips a code off and on for faulty fuel sending unit. i have to set trip meter to track fuel. i know other people with same year trailblazer with the same problem. can run out of fuel at any time during any conditions if not kept in check. not an easy or cheap fix! fuel tank needs to be dropped and fuel sending unit replaced. not something the average person can do. *tr

2006 trailblazer with 46,000 miles on it and the fuel sensor has gone out. gas gauge reads empty when the tank is full. *tr
