There is a recall for my vehicles brakes, i have attempted to have this serviced as my brakes completely went out on me while driving my children this morning, i spent hours on the phone trying to get de luz to understand that i cannot safely drive my vehicle on the road as my brakes do not work correctly.. i was told that they only help i could get was if i drove my truck 80 miles to the nearest dealer where i would probably end up stranded as they also would not cover any rental vehicle. not to mention, after calling this authorized dealer directly, they had informed me that they would not be able to schedule my service for at least 3-4 weeks from now. this is unacceptable. i have a valid and verified recall for a safety hazard and my only option is to "drive it and try not to crash (with my children- and then figure out my own ride 80 miles back to my home and then be car-less for who knows how long??)
Brakes when being applied under low speeds is not stopping the vehicle.
Took my truck in for the brake issue recall because i was experiencing loss of brakes at low speeds. i would primarily see this when stuck in slow moving traffic or backing my truck up to the trailer.....etc. i took it into the dealership for the recall which they supposedly performed and fixed. well 2 months later i am still experiencing the same issue. i was pulling into the garage the other day and it wouldn't stop which caused me to hit my dirt bikes sitting in front of me. another time i was pulling up to a stop light and came to complete stop then i let off the brakes and then pressed them again and when i did this i had to mash it all the way to floor and it sounded like the abs were locking up or making a noise. i came so close to hitting a pedestrian in the cross walk. so in all since the "fix" 2 months ago i have had them fail and hit something in my garage, and 2 very close calls of almost hitting another car or person. i have experienced this since about 15k miles on the vehicle and currently i have 55k on it. this seems to happen very randomly as in i could do the same thing again (pull into garage) and it works fine one time then the next not work at all.
Hard petal at extremly low speeds since i purchased the vehicle. dealer did recall programming change but brakes are still an issue at very low speed and also very hard braking backing up my trailer or boat.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet silverado. while driving 45 mph, the brake pedal was hard and depressed to the floor without warning. the vehicle was towed to east syracuse chevrolet 1 chevy dr, east syracuse, ny 13057 (315) 437-3311 where diagnosed that the vacuum pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired however the failure recurred. the manufacture was contacted who referred contact to another local dealer. the failure mileage was 59,344.
I took my truck in a couple of months ago for a recall that had to do with the braking system. well the other day while driving in a parking lot at very low speeds, my brake pedal started vibrating and got really hard, i was barely able to press the brake. i scary situation that i know is happening to a lot more people who own gm trucks. i hope you guys make gm do a second recall for 2014-18 gm trucks, to replace the brake booster pumps. my local dealership told me that it's a common issue for people who've had the first recall done.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet silverado 1500. while making a left turn at a stop sign, the brake pedal failed to repsond along with loss of power sterring. the brakes did not engage, causing the contact to sideswipe another vehicle. the contact managed to steer the vehicle onto the shoulder and applied the emergency brake to come to a complete stop. the air bags did not deploy. there were no injuries reported and a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed by roadside assistance to everett chevrolet buick gmc (161 us hwy 70 se, hickory, nc 28602, (828) 393-0876) where it was in the process of being diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the driver's door and front bumper were damaged. the contact's insurance company sent an adjuster to the dealer who deemed the vehicle with needing cosmetic repairs. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 19v761000 (electronic stability control, service brakes, hydraulic, service brakes). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided case number: [xxx]. the failure mileage was approximately 35,000. *dl parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Hard petal at low speeds. dealer did recall but brakes are now worse. recall did not work. worse when in drive through or slow stop and go traffic.
First off the brakes have failed on me a bunch of times. i brought it to the dealer before the recalls started and they said it was normal. the problem got worse causing two low speed accidents with no damage but scary. note i have two kids in the car. been in for multiple recalls. one accident happened in a drive thru and one in my driveway. both were front end collisions but no damage. second the truck shakes at higher speeds.starting at 24mph up to 80. my kids teeth shatter in the back. that's how bad it is. dealers said there is no fix for that so i started by re balancing my tires and after that didn't work i got new tires. still have the issue and its more of a headache to bring it into the dealer cause they don't want to fix it or can't. currently on 40,000 miles on my truck and already had a multitude of issues with oil pump failure, steering column replaced due to moving horizontal. seat issues they couldn't fix so had to replace the bracket and brakes are ongoing.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 10 mph, the vehicle vibrated when the brake pedal was depressed and the pedal traveled to the floorboard. the vehicle failed to stop and the emergency brake had to be engaged. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to barton chevrolet (800 auto park pl, newburgh, ny 12550, (845) 561-7600) where it was diagnosed that the vacuum pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 37,965.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the vaccum pump failed, which prevented the brakes from engaging when reversing or moving forward less than 5 mph. when hauling the boat with the vehicle in reverse, the vehicle rolled forward whether the gear was in drive or reverse. also, the brake pedal became difficult to depress. the contact stated that the failure occurred when the vehicle was driven at low speeds. the vehicle was taken to james wood chevrolet (3906 i 35 east south 201, denton, tx 76210, (972) 434-1515) to be repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 19v645000 (service brakes); however, the repair did not correct the failure. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 58,500.
2016 chevrolet silverado. consumer writes in regards to hydraulic brake system safety recall. *ld the consumer requested to be reimbursed for the recall repair. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the brakes seized intermittently. on september 5, 2019, the vehicle was taken to high plains motors inc (331 front st, wolf pointe, mt 59201) for diagnostic testing. the contact was informed that nhtsa campaign number: 19v645000 (service brakes) applied to the failure. the software update was performed; however, the failure was becoming worse. on september 9, 2019), the vehicle was brought back to the same dealer and the contact that the contact would be responsible for the repairs since the recall repairs were performed already. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 82,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 19v645000 (service brakes, hydraulic). while driving at low speeds, the brake pedal was difficult to depress and traveled to the floorboard. the vehicle slowly came to a stop. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to rydell chevrolet (8600 devonshire st #1309, northridge, ca 91324, (866) 802-5628) where it was diagnosed that the brake booster pump needed to be repaired. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 591190. no further assistance was offered. the failure mileage was approximately 98,000.
Brakes locked up wile, driving for a second time in less than a month , the first time was 07/13/2019 depaua chevrolet had to 0rder electrical moduals called ebcm and bpmv that was suppose to be the reason the brakes locked up it took a month for them to get parts and now the brakes have locked up again after spending $2512.02 toget them repaired . i would like to know if any body else has had this problem with there 2016 chevy silverodo 4wheel drives. this happened while driving.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet silverado 1500. while the vehicle was being reversed on several occasions, the brakes became inoperable. the contact stated that extra effort was needed to slow down the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 18v578000 (service brakes, hydraulic). the manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 81,000.
Brake pedal becomes very hard to push at low speed, almost unable to stop the truck most times. happens on a daily basis
Brakes become very difficult to depress after 2-3 depressions of the pedal. happens mostly in parking lots and stop/go traffic. driver must apply great pressure to slow/stop vehicle.
Reoccurring braking problems at low speeds whenever pressure is applied to the brake in quick succession (ie bumper to bumper traffic) the brake pedal becomes harder/stiffer to press and applies little to no brake without excessive force. i have only noticed this braking problem at low speeds because of the conditions that cause the problem. this happens when the vehicle is driving straight as well as turning. the vehicle also make a sound as if the abs system is activating and the brake pedal feels as though the abs system is activating. no lights illuminated on the dashboard during the braking. my vehicle only has about 50k miles. the vehicle was also bought from a certified chevrolet dealer
Driving around parking lots or stuck in traffic going slow and having to press the brake pedal frequently the pedal will go very hard and takes both feet to press down on it and basically have no brakes. i have i to pull over or stop and shut the truck off and sit for a min then restart and i get my brakes back. i think it has something to do with the vacuum assist pump not working correctly. i have not taken in to the shop yet cause i'm out of the bumper to bumper warranty
Unresponsive brakes at low speed. very dangerous and not sure why this isnt a recall. how many people have to get injured or die before its fixed?
The brakes went stiff and my wife was barely able to get the truck to stop. this was luckily just backing out of our drive way. it could have been really bad if she was going faster or needed to stop quick.
On the date cited, i was backing up a trailer down a hill slowly. had released the brakes then reapplied and suddenly the brake pedal was stiff and it was very hard to stop. manually applied full strength trailer brakes and the trailer helped stop the truck. 3 days later (5/30/19) i experienced a similar incident. i was parked, put the truck in drive accidentally and took my foot off the brake. when i applied the brake again quickly to switch to reverse, the pedal was extremely stiff. nearly hit the vehicle in front of me. put into reverse and no issue. at no point was a "service brake assist" message displayed as noted in a 'special warranty' letter received from gm in the mail between the incidents. no other error codes or messages were displayed. 2 years ago after having towed a trailer, the message "service brake assist" was displayed on the screen once, the local service dealer pulled codes and did not perform any repair.
Vacuum pump failed suddenly, almost had a collision due to very hard braking. the vehicle is currently at the dealer for repairs ($2,100 including new brakes). i don't have any documentation yet.
Brake paddle will sometimes go hard on a second application most notably when going slow as if the power brake part of the system is not working, still have a good paddle but almost no stopping power. looking for a recall, not found.
Brakes barely work at low speed and require a lot of pressure to get the vehicle to stop. nearly backed my truck into a lake while backing down a boat launch. very dangerous! there are so may complaints on this issue and the nhtsa has been "investigating" it for over 6 months now. when will something be done?
Hard brake pedal and near complete brake failure at low speeds due to faulty vacuum pump for brake booster. vacuum pump unable to provide enough vacuum to brake booster causing very hard pedal at low speeds and stop and go traffic. vehicle is well maintained with approx 52,500 miles
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 silverado 1500. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 mph, the vehicle crashed into the rear of another vehicle. the contact indicated that when depressing the brake pedal to avoid the collision the message "service brake assist" had displayed and the brake pedal was hard while depressed. no injuries were reported. a police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. the cause of the failure was not yet determined. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the local dealer was not contacted regarding the failure. the failure mileage was 81,000.
During parking or in traffic, the brakes on this vehicle have a tendency to become very stiff and noisy requiring increased pressure to apply the brakes. the problem has caused several near-miss accidents and has become more frequent between occurrences. the problem was reported to the dealership in november of 2018, but because my appointment was later in the day, they asked if i could return another day to have the problem diagnosed. i had it diagnosed finally on may 4, 2019 which they did not elude to this being a frequently reported issue, nor that the issue has been ongoing since the previous year. the dealership stated that the repair would cost over $700 which i could not afford at the time. but then 4 days later i receive a letter (attached) in the mail, dated april 2019, that says that the brake issue was identified, but i would only qualify for the extended coverage if the problem was reported within 6 years of the purchase date or 72,000 miles, whichever was first. at the time the issue was diagnosed, the milage on the vehicle was 73,265, conveniently just outside the range of the milage identified in the letter. if gm was familiar with this issue in 2018, why send this letter out immediately following my diagnosis, where i was allowed zero opportunities to have the problem repaired? were all the other vehicle owners who experienced the problem given the same milage and year restrictions as me? also, how is it that a braking problem which has been know to cause accidents and injuries allowed to persist up until there is a severe problem, potentially resulting in a fatality before a recall is justified? there are moral concerns with this on addition to the general safety concerns.
Lose braking power on the 2nd application at a low speed. had an accident trying to slow down coming to an intersection due to low to no stopping power.
When moving slowly brake pedal becomes hard to push making it difficult to stop in position of drive up window or parking.
At a gas station moving to park, when i pressed the brakes the vehicle wouldn't stop until i pressed very very hard on the brake pedal.
Brakes go out when backing up or at low speed
April 2019 letter from gm saying my brakes could possibly loose their vacuum assist. they do not want to fix the problem unless i have problems and extended the warranty to 6 years and 72,000. what a cop out, what if my brakes do not work properly in a tight stopping situation? i have attached a copy of the letter, please do not let gm play with our safety on a $52,000 vehicle or any vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet silverado 1500. on several occasions, while parking or reversing the vehicle, it failed to respond when the brake pedal was depressed. the contact stated that the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard, but failed to stop the vehicle adequately. the vehicle was taken to summit chevrolet buick gmc (located at 318 grant ave, auburn, ny 13021, (315) 258-2000) to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code or duplicate the failure. the contact emphasized that the failure occurred at extremely slow speeds. the contact was concerned due to the ongoing investigation, nhtsa action number: pe18012 (service brakes, hydraulic), linked to similar vehicles. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
When i put the truck in drive to move forward the truck would not stop. i pressed very hard on the brakes to get it to stop. i then place the truck in park and tried again to move backwards. the brakes would not stop the vehicle. i had to press as hard as i could to get it to stop. almost hit a building. this has happened on 2 other occasions in a parking lot and pulling out onto a main road from a driveway. when i turn the vehicle off and restart then the brakes will engage and work properly. this is a very dangerous problem.
When traveling at low speeds (estimate <10mph, usually happens when parking), when the brakes are applied, the brake pedal becomes stiff, does not depress as usual, do not apply force properly, and the vehicle continues moving. this issue has been experienced multiple times in both drive and reverse. this issue has resulted in bumping objects and cars.
When driving at low speeds, the brake petal becomes hard and stiff and will not stop. this has happened numerous times and is very dangerous.
Lost ability to brake. had to press pedal very hard on the brake pedal and felt truck braking is not working. may be related to vacuum pump failure and/or braking system failure.
Brake effort drastically increased when backing out of parking space. car was very difficult to stop and pedal would not depress further.
Vehicle brakes fail when traveling at low speeds. brake pedal will not depress and truck will not stop. failures happen in forward and reversed. problem is reoccurring.
When operating vehicle at low speeds the brake pedal becomes stiff and hard to press down. this causes the truck to continue moving and even caused me to rear end another vehicle causing rear damage to that vehicle and a small dent in my front bumper. this issue does not happen at high speeds but 15mph and under it occurs.
On my 2016 silverado 1500 when i am at slow speeds and press the brake pedal it does not stop the truck. the pedal becomes extremely stiff and the only way to stop the truck is the emergency brake or using both feet pressing the brake pedal with all my force. i have found by my dealer that it is a faulty vacuum pump also not covered under warranty.
As others have complained about this same issue, i'm sitting in the dealership right now waiting for a new vacuum pump to be installed because my truck will not stop at low speeds pulling in or backing out of parking spaces or driveway. waiting on actual price but possibly $700 to fix something that should be recalled.
When moving at slow speeds (parking lots, stand still traffic) the brakes lose assistance causing the pedal to become extremely stiff and difficult to depress resulting in the truck being almost impossible to stop. this has been happening consistently for about a month now.
Loss in break power at low rate spell when parking. felt like the truck lost full power to break system. only happens when parking. looks to be a vacuum pump failure. found no recalls on issue and seems to be a dangerous issue
Brakes are hard at low speed. pressing the brake at low speed make it very hard for car to stop. no lights turn on the dash at the time of this issue. this happens most during stop and go traffic or when in a parking lot of a store where car is traveling at low speed
Power braking failure. brake booster/vacuum pump has failure when driving at low speeds (backing/pulling into parking spots, driving in stop & go traffic, etc.). the brake pedal stiffens up, and an immense amount of pressure is needed to stop the vehicle. i have been able to recreate this issue many times in the past couple days, as has the chevrolet dealership that i purchased it from. this is similar to when a vehicle loses all electrical power and the abs is no longer active. when the brake is applied (very heavily), and the the pedal stiffens up, the truck still proceeds to move forward or backwards another foot or so prior to fully stopping. this is a huge safety issue, as i commonly drive in stop/go traffic to and from work, as well as park in a parking deck backing up to either other vehicles, or a concrete wall.
I had just gotten home after visiting my parents which is approximately 100 miles (1 hour and 45 minutes) away from my house and i had no issues on the highway with my brakes. the drive was mostly all highway with an average speed limit of 65 and 75 mph. i went to park my truck at my house in which i back into my parking spot at home. when i went to stop, my truck's brakes worked properly but when i put it in reverse to back into the spot, that is when i went to go break, the brakes needed more force applied to the pedal in order to stop the vehicle. i then put my truck into drive to see if the problem was only when the vehicle was in reverse or all the time. i drove it a few feet forwards and back a few times and the problem persisted. general motors has issued a document (pit5361d) regarding this issue but has not issued a recall. a new vacuum pump was installed by the dealer which resolved the issue but was not covered under warranty.
When driving at low speeds and on an incline, brake pedal become very hard to push and do not work. this has happened on several occasions and something needs to be addressed with gm. based on all the complaints on this site, majority of them are for the same reason involving the brake issue. each occassion vehicle driving at low speeds on city streets and when going down an incline at low speeds.
