Problems with 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 SERVICE BRAKES

On average, the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 49 181 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

While attempting to brake at low speeds the brake booster and pedal failed causing me to use excessive brake pressure to get the the vehicle to stop. due to this i was almost involved in a crash the vehicle only has 50k miles.

I stopped to eat at a restaurant and my brakes got extremely hard and my truck did not stop i used both feet to jam the brake down as hard as i could to stop. there was a car in front of me but it was pulling out as i pulled in. my truck would have struck this vehicle if it weren't for them pulling out. i went directly to a nearby mechanic to see what is going on with my truck. they told me the vacuum pump is faulty and that gm has a bulletin about this issue. so gm is aware of the issue and knows their vehicles are dangerous to its customers and the public. but they have not ordered a recall to fix the faulty vacuum pump.

Brake pedal gets really hard and has become a safety issue with everyday driving. turn off engine and resets and works again.

The 8th of november 2018 while traveling through austin, tx - in heavy traffic; i nearly rear-ended another vehicle - the brakes got real hard, but the vehicle kept rolling. the brakes acted like the engine was shut off. i tried them again after resumed speed- and i tested them - on the third pump - they were rock-hard again. a vehicle shop in san antonio was able to consistently replicate the problem. it was a bad vacuum-pump-assist. it cost me $455.00, it could have been worse, the mechanic told me that oil from the engine could have damaged the vacuum booster and/or the master cylinder. he told me chevy knows about it - #pit5361b - but i never knew about it - i almost rear-ended another vehicle. vehicle had 48,500 miles when it occurred.

Suddenly in early november, when i pulled into a parking lot or into the driveway in my home the brake pedal on the truck would suddenly become hard and incompressible. i nearly hit other vehicles and pedestrians because i couldn't brake at low speeds. i took it to the shop and was told the vacuum pump was not working properly and needed to be replaced.

2016 chevy silverado brakes are inactive at low speeds. brake pedal becomes very stiff in stop and go traffic. truck is in the shop now getting repaired. i will send my vin number when i get my truck back .

When backing up lost power brake assist, also when pulling forward, was dropping my boat off in storage causing my to use the brakes a lot when backing up, no power assist when pulling out of garage when leaving, when going down road brakes came back to operate as normal. now after backing and braking 3 times power assist is gone but returns when driving normal. have appointment at dealer tomorrow for cal problems (dashboard says cal and smartphone remote start does not work) will have brakes checked.

While pulling into a parking space the brakes lost all power assist and the brake pedal was completely stiff. i had to press the brake pedal extremely hard to prevent hitting the car parked in front of me. i was moving slowly and this condition came without warning. moments earlier the brakes had performed normally. this vehicle has 44,000 miles.

The brakes have failed to stop the vehicle in 2 separate occasions in speeds less than 5 mph. the has been reviewed by a certified chevrolet mechanics and they since they cannot replicate the issue, they don't feel it is a major concern. i want to ensure that others are aware as i have stopped driving the vehicle due to the safety concern. i am currently working with chevrolet to turn the vehicle back into them since i do not feel safe driving it.

Was driving on city street, applied brakes and became really hard. it was hard to stop. pedal was really hard. had to press with both feet.

Brakes consistently turning rock hard while driving at low speeds in both the forward and reverse position. first occasion 13,000 miles. dealer denys a problem. however it improved slightly after the service call. still an ongoing issue and has almost caused me to be in several accidents. at 25kmiles now. occurs whirle slowly on driving on roads & parking. very dangerous goin down hills or in bumper to bumper traffic or prepareing to merge or turn onto roads. bringing back for service this week. will update what action they do/ don't take.

Hard brake pedal at low rpm

Brake pedal becomes hard with little to no brakes a low or idle speeds.

Brake pedal became extremely hard to push. unable to stop truck that was in motion in a parking lot.

My brakes do not properly function in wet weather conditions. the brake petal becomes extremely stiff, as if there is air in the brake lines. this also results in a significant loss of stopping power. while jamming the brake pedal as hard as i can, the pads never make significant contact with the rotor. i have already damaged my bumper because of this. i was attempting to park during heavy rains. while pressing my break petal, i noticed the immediate loss of stopping power. i could not stop in time, colliding with the parking barrier pole. the loss of stopping power happens routinely during rain.

During slow traffic situation brake pedal becomes extremely hard and difficult to depress with loss of braking to the point of almost causing an accident.

Vacuum pump is leaking. when i push brakes it gets hard and truck doesn't want to stop when i push brakes. i've already had brakes replaced and it still occurs and i also took it to dealership and they said it was vacuum pump. motion, street, highway, braking

The brakes don't hold at times. has happened while backing up and during regular driving conditions. it has only happened during city streets or during stop and go driving. feels like my brakes never engage but the pedal is pressed fully.

Brake vacuum pump issues dealers aware of issue & have an updated vacuum pump available. transmission issues were it down shifts hard at times & has a bad shattering when upshisting at low speeds took it 2 times before warranty expired said was just a software update. never took care of issue.

I own a 2016 silverado with a faulty brake vacuum pump. the issue was rectified by a gm dealer, and service records are attached. i am filing a compliant to ensure nhtsa is aware of a dangerous defect in this truck. the issue became apparent over the course of weeks. initial problems included an audible clicking noise once the brake was depressed. as the problem progressed the vehicle would not be able to brake when trying to brake on inclines as flat as 2 degrees. in fact, brakes would fail and abs would kick in when backing out of my driveway. youtube video summarizes issue https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0krkyevbcu0

Ts bulletin no.: pit5361b brakes lose vacuum at low speed (eg. stop/start traffic, fast food drive through lanes). it's as if the engine was turned off while braking. chevrolet charged $645 to replace vacuum pump.

Recently purchased a 2016 chevy silverado in may 2018, and had 17,000 miles on it, in july 2018 noticed the brakes were hard to mash and pulsating while driving; it's not doing it all the time, off and on. need to know if this a recall issue and what to do?

Was going down a steep hill in kentucky in stop and go traffic and without warning the brake pedal got really hard to push and the truck didn't want to stop. also happened at a low rpm going down the approach of a driveway. i am able to duplicate it. also at red lights if i pump the brakes they become really hard to push.

Vacuum pump failed resulting in property damage

I am having brake assist failure at all speeds. it is impossible to stop without applying full force. the abs 'clicking' can be heard and felt while trying to apply brakes. this system failed going down a mountain pass with a camper behind us and children in the back seat. the 'service brake assist' light was displayed.

Vehicle was statinonary, and was hit from the rear and pushed into another vehicle on a highway. i have damage to rearend, driver side and front end. after the accident i recieved an email that there was a critical issue with airbags, my airbags did not deploy. contacted gm about issue was transferred to esis/central claims for gm, they sent out and inspector to pull crash data, i was given copy of crash data, and crash data stated airbags deployed when they did not, it also showed a code b0052-00 which is an airbag deployment code. after weeks of back and forth my claim was denied for product defect on 06/12/18,

The brakes fail(periodically) at low rpm due to vacuum booster pump failure. typically happens when moving slowly at idle - rolling down a driveway etc.

I was driveing the vehical pulling a boat on a trailer coming up to a stop sign, i then went to press the brake and the pedal was hard and the truck wouldnt stop. it was very difficult to press the brake and if my wife had been driving im not sure she would have had the stregth to press the brake and stop the truck. this is a very dangerous issue. took the truck to the dealer and they said that the vacumm pump had failed and needed to be replace along with the vacumm hoses and the brake booster. the dealer wanted 1400.00 to replace these components on a two year old truck. i replaced all the components with factory parts.

This for 2016 chevrolet siverado ltz d/c 5.3l 4x4 t/a1500 model ck15543 purchase date: 05/26/16 as of the last past year i've experience steering control failure, stability control failure and brake system failure. the truck can not be driven safely. visit dealer about 10 times and they don't have a clue of how to fix this safety problems. this vehicle is listed under recall by gm and dealer has not been able to fix.

I'm having brake booster failure at slow speeds, the brake petal is super hard to push down and it almost isn't enough to make the truck stop rolling at slow speeds. truck has right at 43,xxx miles on it and is not under warranty.

When driving slow the brake booster doesnt seem to work, unless you press on the gas. when reversing slowly brakes go out. when stuck in traffic bumper to bumper and driving slow the brakes seem to not work unless you press on the gas. the first time it happened was in december 2017 and its starting to happen again.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle began to hesitate when the brake pedal was depressed. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to st clair chevrolet buick gmc (located at 3050 king rd, china township, mi 48054, (810) 637-1546), but they were unable to duplicate the failure. the failure continued. the contact had both rearview mirrors and the back up camera replaced, and an unknown sensor and the vacuum bag were reprogrammed twice. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v645000 (service brakes, hydraulic). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 17,967.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet silverado 1500. while operating on an incline, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond. the failure occurred without warning. kenny ross chevrolet buick gmc (located at 11250 us-30, north huntington, pa) was contacted and updated the software and transmission. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 18,025.

At 4200 miles the front right disc brake was damaged beyond repair. the mechanic stated that the front left showed normal wear and that it still have more than 50% left on the pad. the right front caliper was not retracting and caused the brake to run compressed for a long time hence causing unrepairable damage to the rotor. the dealer service did not inform me of the defective caliper, only that they needed to replace the rotor and brakes, never mentioned that the left side was normal. is there a recall for brake calipers on this vehicle??

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet silverado 1500. when the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle lost brake functionality. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was taken to hilltop chevrolet where it was diagnosed that the vacuum pump was faulty. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 23,367.

The brakes become hard and resist depression, or require an increased effort to depress the brake pedal but with no stopping ability, if you tap or press the break. example in traffic or reversing out the driveway.this seems to happen at 20 mph or less. i did have an issue the other day when i had to slam on the brakes, pressing the brake all the way which hard to do and made all kinds of noises. this has been going on since 2017.

Upon accelerating after traffic light, power fails, steering locks following grinding clanking sound in steering column. also occurs same symptoms in attempt to move gear shift to park position. more frequent doing this procedure. key moves by itself to originally input position in process of locking steering. this defect occurred eight times within five days, requiring towing, and being stranded. vehicle delivered by tow service to nearest chevy dealer on first few failures, vehicle returned to original dealer 230 miles away near owners home at cost of owner. original dealer believes defect is potentially lignition locking system, attempting to verify at this period. this major safety issue of loosing power and systems locking up jeopardize occupants and others lives.again occurrences were at very low speed or in motion of parking.

I believe chevrolet 1500 series trucks are not manufactured with brakes that stop the vehicle soon enough. i have a problem when i have driven my truck for a while, long enough that the brake system gets pretty warm, or down hills,,( not steep hills). the brakes do not not brake very well, along with making a grinding - rumbling noise from the front of the vehicle. it also feels like like the brakes are metal on metal. i have asked the dealership to check into it, and the say, nothing wrong, brakes have lots of brake pad left. when i ask them if they have heard of any issues regarding brake fade, and noise, they say no. last year gm came up with a front brake upgrade kit in their parts department, which is a 6 piston calliper and upgraded pads for the truck, but it costs $4000. on the 2019, they have added this upgrade kit as an option when you build and price a new truck. that tells me that that they know there is an issue with their trucks, but they won't admit it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 85 mph, there was an uncontrollable vibration coming from underneath the vehicle near the transmission. on several occasions, while driving various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to slow down or stop the vehicle. the contact stated that the vehicle occasionally also pulled to the left or the right when the brake pedal was depressed. furthermore, while driving, the vehicle stalled and shut off on four separate occasions. the contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts. the vehicle was taken to wommack chevrolet (currently known as north park chevrolet castroville, located at 1955 us-90, castroville, tx 78009, (830) 931-9200) where it was diagnosed that the brake calipers, brake pads, brake lines, and torque converter needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the contact was advised to turn off the abs and traction control and the vehicle would perform better; however, the contact refused. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the contact was provided case number: 84425679432. the approximate failure mileage was 6,967. *tt*jb *tr

Went to make left turn on wet road an it didn't turn it slide an kept going straight .it just doesn't stop it slides yes vehicle was moving the road was wet made this same turn for the last 30 years in many chevrolet silverado trucks an this has never happened different time everyone all traffic stops at once i tried to stop an i slide in to a vehicle so hard it hit the vehicle in front of it before stopping there are 4 of these trucks bought at the same time same truck same tire on all 4 vehicles and there all driving an acting the same way. *tr

My truck came with an optional $770.00 trailering package including auto locking 3.42 ratio rear end, 5.3 litre v-8. the sales pitch is i can now tow 9800 pounds. they don't tell you that there are no trailer brakes! so how am i supposed to stop when i'm towing 9800 lbs? i contacted gm and they gave me a claim # 8-2253662923 and told me that i would hear from them within 48 hours, 4 days later i called again and was told that a supervisor needed to talk to me, she told me that she would contact the dealer nd someone will get back to me, that was 2 weeks ago. i think that this is an extremely unsafe condition, this will kill people! any help would be greatly appreciated.

While in motion in city at intersection, stopped for light, proceeded forward but steering locked, brakes, and ignition switch inactive, a grinding clicking noise heard just as began accelerating before safety failure. truck towed to a dealer, unable to determine cause, released truck, problem occurred again in three days causing vehicle to be towed again. mechanic unsure, no errors codes, however sounded similar to early recall by gm for ignition switch torque problems, but noise could be per mechanic something in rack and pinion or rotary vene pump. dealer not committing and suggest to drive. safety for lives is concern in this matter with lack of electrical, steering, brakes, and ignition control by driver.
