We have classified the 67 complaints from 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Door lock actuators do not always work first it was the passenger rear then driver rear now the passenger front is not working with the research i have don't i have come to the conclusion it is a very common problem even with low mileage trucks of this model year. the issue is not only annoying but can create a dangerous environment.
Additionally, a small number of 2007-2012 model year vehicles that include; 2008-2013 chevrolet avalanche, 2008-2009 chevrolet colorado vehicles; 2007-2013 chevrolet silverado, 2008-2014 suburban, and tahoe vehicles; 2008-2013 gmc sierra and 2009-2012 yukon vehicles; 2008-2009 gmc canyon vehicles; 2009-2010 hummer h2, h3 and h3t vehicles; and 2008-2009 saturn vue and 2009 outlook vehicles may have been serviced with a chassis electronic module that could have internal contamination, causing an electrical short in the module. if the module experiences an electrical short, the vehicle could display a check engine light, stall, or fail to start. if the vehicle experiences this condition and stalls while in motion, there could be an increased risk of a vehicle crash. my vehicle has stalled multiple times while driving as well as failed to start. when these symptoms occurred they are accompanied by a check engine light for a u0109 code (loss of communication with fuel pump control module). i believe that my vehicle, although the vin is not listed, is affected by nhtsa recall bulletin number 14515 as quoted above.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500. while attempting to start the vehicle, it would crank, but not start. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the chassis electronic control module was contaminated and needed replacement. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 114,000.
The engine doesn't slow down imediatly after you release accelerator.. also the electric system comes on and off in motion... also sometimes speakers work and sometimes the don't ...in motion or not.. i lost control of the truck and hit a tree going about 40 mph no airbags were deployed...
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the vehicle's passlock system to start the vehicle was malfunctioning. the dealer (asheville chevrolet, 205 smokey park highway, asheville, nc 28806, (828) 348-7326) stated that there was no recall and offered to repair the failure. the manufacturer had not been contacted. the failure mileage was 96,000. the vin was unknown.
Hello, i got a check engine light and found the code is for "low flow, check fuel control module, fuel pump". i found a recall bulletin no.: 14515b date: january 2015 subject: chassis electronic control module internal contamination. it is model year truck and the exact part number of the control module but the local dealer advised gm does not list my vin as being involved, even though my truck is listed in the model year bulletin and it is the exact part number for all vehicles!! my truck could stop at any time and is unsafe to drive. i can;t drive the vehicle for fear of it stalling and even gm advised it could stall in trafiic and is a safety hazard. please help. thank you.
The problem was not with the air bag, but the front switch that activates the air bags upon impact. when one or both fail the test when you turn the ignition on, it posts a message saying service the air bag system. there is lots of information regarding this on utube. apparently this is a common problem. i am an electrician and an electronics tech, i know that the air bags will not activate if the crash is on the side with a bad air bag. i had 2 brake light switches go out, at which time the person behind me,would have no idea, i was braking. the switch is a 2 part switch, one part controls the brake light, the other enables or disengages the cruise control system.
Tried to open passenger side front window from master module(switch) on driver side, notice a burnt odor. on farther inspection i found the passenger side window module had shorted out with burnt and/or melted wires at the connector. possible fire hazard! i was parked at a post office
Rapid temporary loss of engine power, doorlocks cycling repeatedly, guages malfunctioning, radio shuts off and turns back on with no preset stations and showing 12:00 on the clock ,cruise control disengages. once vehicle is shut off, no guages nor lights work...as if there wasn't any battery in the vehicle. vehicle won't start until dome light is restored on via jumpstarting. cleaning battery connections and numerous ground wire connections gives short-lived relief from symtoms but problems ultimately return. chevy dealership diagnosis shows that ground wires have high resistance. online research shows that tens of thousands of other chevy owners are having similar to exact same problems, yet no recall has been issued. problem was "fixed" last year and has returned yet again.
Takata recall. i spoke to a chevrolet dealership person (all star chevrolet north, 9352 plank road, baton rouge, la) about replacing my truck passenger side airbag. i first contacted them on november 7, 2017 and was told the device was not available. i contacted them again on may 10, 2018 and spoke with amanda. amanda said she would check with her manager to determine if the part was available to schedule the fix but i have not been contacted. i decided to call chevrolet customer assistance center (1-800-222-1020) and i spoke with jane. jane explained that my vehicle is not part of the recall but your web site and chevrolet web site (http://my.gm.com/recalls) state that my vehicle is part of the 'takata recall'. jane mentioned something about chevrolet hiring a third party engineering firm that determined that vehicles like mine was not affected. i asked for this in an email or letter but she said she was not authorized to release this information in written form. 'electrical issue'. vehicle instrumentation panel completely shuts down while driving. this appears to be a common problem when i search the internet. also vehicle shows the 'airbag' needs serving then right after this the 'check engine' symbol appeared. it is hard to believe that these issues are not related. thanks.
Takata airbag defect... defective ignition switch locks key in ignition
Experiencing sporadic issues with my trucks electrical system. what will happen is that as i'm driving down the road (doesn't matter what speed), i will hear a loud "pop" (sounds exactly like a desktop computer losing power) and then my dashboard/monitor screen will go dark and after a split second everything come back on. the dashboard will flash on and off for a few more seconds. about every third time this happens, if i park the car and try to restart it it won't turn over. in these instances, i can hear current cycling through my power door lock switch along with an electric clicking noise that won't stop. if i let the truck sit for 15 minutes or so, i can get the truck to restart. i have had to have it towed a couple of times because i could never get it to turn over. this problem first occurred when the truck was 3-4 years old and still under warranty. they couldn't find the issue and didn't replace any parts. now all the repairs are coming out of my pocket. i've replaced the battery a couple times thinking i had a faulty battery. later i replaced the battery cable thinking this was the cause and most recently replaced the fuse box. in all instances, the problem would go away for anywhere from 3-6 months and then reappear. as i said it is very intermittent with no consistency to it whatsoever. my truck has never died while driving when this has occurred, although i'm scared to death it will do so and i'll lose all power. my brother-in-law is a master mechanic for a local dealership and it has him completely stumped. he's read through all the tsb's, checked on-line blog's, etc. as well as doing his own technical troubleshooting, but cannot pin down the exact issue. at this point we've resorted to replacing the most likely parts and hoping for the best. as i said i replaced the fuse box about 4 months ago and the problem resurfaced today.
I was on highway 84 passing another car at speed 75 mph the door locks started came on and off, the safety belt lights came on, the engine started to slow and speed up, the clock went from 4:00 pm to 12:00 pm, the date went to 01/01/2004, the a/c started to blow hot air. i stopped on the shoulder and turned it off, everything stopped only the abs light stayed on. i called onstar to check what's wrong, they said everything looks good, check the tires, if the tires are good, you are good to drive. all tires were 33psi. i reset all the electronic functions and went home. i was in danger for at least 5 minutes in the left lane passing another car.
When driving at low speeds and making turn veg steering makes loud sound and steering wheel makes vibrating sound and locks temporarily. a code turned on that reads stabilizer trackability it stayed on from that time until now.
Driver side rear door lock- unlock no longer works. stuck in locked position though locking mechanism pops up and down.
Instrument panel randomly goes crazy as well as power locks and engine shuts off going down the road. sometimes will not crank up takes a few times turning the key
The engine died without warning while driving at about 30 mph. power steering and brakes were lost making the vehicle very difficult to control. i managed to stop the vehicle safely and had it towed to a chevrolet dealership. the cause of the engine die out was found to be an internal fault in the engine control module.
I have a short in my fuel pump flow control module. it causes my car to stall while while in operation, check engine light comes on, sometimes it doesn't start, etc. this issue has haunted me for about a year now. i found a recall bulletin from gm; #14515b. this is the exact part # and issue that i'm having but my vin # isn't part of the recall. is it possible that my vin was missed?
Front impact sensor for air bag system failed due to poor placement, inferior product and lack of initial quality installation.corroded internally.
2008 chevrolet silverado. consumer writes in regards to vehicle shuts down intermittently, door locks malfunction, key fob issues and other electrical system problems. *smd *tr
With truck stationary, i have inspected and observed the following. dash has cracked through multiple locations to include areas for stored airbags. rattling sound is coming from insecure dash. radio and speakers function intermittently and other times with static. replaced speakers in doors and that did not resolve the problem. drivers seat belt did not connect to receiver end. replaced part ordered from gm parts website. a constant water leak comes from underneath dash along firewall into drivers side floorboards. water soaked carpet and insulation has wicked to rear floor areas. no one has found the water source, but it has rusted driver side door panel screws and ruined carpet. water appears to be worse when using hvacc or defroster. replaced fuel vent valve solenoid underneath truck, near refuel cap/door, three times due to check eng light.
After having driven vehicle a short distance for an appointment, truck would not start an hour later; however, lights came on dash. i waited 10 seconds and tried it again, and it started no problem. then no problem starting the next time but driving around town the radio start shutting off for about 3 seconds before coming back on. this happened a few times, then as i am driving, the entire electrical system starts going haywire, lights flashing on dash with warning lights & messages going off on dash, then everything but the engine shuts off (dash lights, gauges, radio and a/c), after about 5 seconds everything comes back on. i immediately drive to my mechanic who hooked up the computer to my truck and said it was my ignition switch. he said he could not get me in that day and asked me to bring it back the next day. so the rest of that day i did not have any further problems with it. the next day i took it to my mechanic and got the ignition switch replaced. while the mechanic had my truck for several hours until i could go back to pick it up, he said he started it many times and it appeared to be fixed. so i leave the mechanic shop and go back to work, then get off work 2-3 hours later and my truck will not start. after attemping it 3 times, it started. i drive home which is 10 minutes away and turn the truck off and back on. only when i attempt to turn the truck on, it will not start. this time nothing happens...no clicking sound or any attempts of the engine wanting to start....no lights on the dash like before. it was 2 hours later before i was able to get just lights to come on the dash, then another 30 minutes went by before i was able to get my truck to start. this is day 3 of dealing with it and i drove it to work and back home with no problems. i called mechanic who said sounds like a grounding problem. i said sounds like computer system.
I was entering i-75 interstate ramp and moving along with traffic and about 70 mph, the door locks started going up and down on there own, the instrument cluster needles started sporadically going up and down then they show no signs of anything, the airbag light came on along with the chime sound, the stability control light came on, the truck lost a little bit of power when trying to accelerate, i did smell a burnt wire odor. i have replaced the battery and alternator and still the problem exists. this has happen twice before this incident. the stability control light came on and the truck ran really rough. i took it to my local chevrolet dealership and they told me that the number 8 cylinder had oil leaking into it which i see no signs of blue smoke coming out of the tailpipe and have been driving it for 5 months now with no problems except what is going on now with the electrical system. i have been researching the electrical problems with this year truck and it seems to be a wide spread manufacture problem. i have also seen pictures of the same year truck with the same problems that are described above and this ladies truck burned from the dashboard all the way to the front seats. a total loss. general motors needs to address this problem immediately before someone dies. recall recall recall!!! ....updated 11/13/15 *bf updated 1/4/2016*js
I have a2008 silverado like new the electrical system is giving me a hard time i replace the alternator, battery, headlight and still have ''thisissue headlight dimming at night time, cruise control not working properly ! i wish gm can help me
Door locks stick when hot outside and break lights won't go off.. i have been pulled over by police and given a warning to get lights fixed.. i took it to a repair shop they think it could be the wiring harness or don't know what is causing it.. but it's dangerous to drive
While driving at speed door locks will actuate back and forth with all dash lights flashing. eventually car loses all power, engine dies, and have to pulp to side of interstate without power brakes or propulsion. i was personally almost rear ended by a semi at approx 60 mph. furthermore, it is know that all door panels in this vehicle retain moisture. this has killed all speakers and i guess it could be a potential cause of the afore mentioned problem.
Since august i have noticed approximately 5-6 incidences when there was a brief failure in the ignition of the truck causing me to have to turn the ignition key a second time. it has started correctly on the 2nd try, so far. however, each time this has happened, i've noticed that the clock went back to default. this does not happen every time nor does there appear to be a pattern for when it happens such as driving a short distance, a long distance or the first start up of the day, etc. i'm not getting any malfunction warnings. the vehicle is up to date on inspections and maintenance. the battery was replaced about a year ago. the vehicle is equipped with an after factory electric brake unit. i am the 2nd owner of this vehicle. to my knowledge, it has not been in any accidents nor has it had any other malfunctions. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, suddenly the instrument panel lights, interior lights, and exterior lights would shut off and flashed off and on. in addition, the door locks would erroneously lock and unlock. also, the windshield wipers would randomly activate. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. the battery was replaced but the failures persisted. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000. the vin was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly shut off. the contact also experienced difficulty starting the vehicle due to a faulty ignition switch. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch was faulty. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 98,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the fuse box caught on fire and melted the harness. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnosis or repairs. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
While driving out of my driveway, i suddenly lost both power steering and power brakes. i was able to get back into my driveway, but with considerable effort. i called my mechanic and was advised that the power steering pump had failed, causing the power brakes to fail, also. the power steering pump shaft broke. i use the truck mostly to tow a horse trailer. i shudder to think what may have happened had the failure occurred on my way to a camp site on a curving two lane road. i researched the failure on line and discovered it is not a rare occurrence, and has been happening to several model year chevrolet trucks. this is a low mileage vehicle i purchased new. it has never been abused or misused. *tr
Motor knocks and is using oil a lot of oil and the dash light flicker with the switch. *tr
While driving on the freeway, the entire electrical system in the vehicle shut down momentarily and came back. the entire dashboard went dark, headlights turned off, door locks cycled up and down, and radio turned off and back on. brought vehicle to dealership and they diagnosed the problem as battery cables needing to be replaced as there was high resistance. searching online for similar statements shows that many other people are complaining of this same problem. this is a major safety issue as it could cause loss of control of the vehicle. working with gm customer service on this, they will not pay for the repairs which totaled $478.95. this is not a part that should fail after less than 5 years. please see these links for others complaining of same issue. http://community.cartalk.com/discussion/2281792/chevy-silverado-electrical-nightmare http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/129454-my-fix-on-my-silverado-electrical-problem/ http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f31/silverado-electrical-nightmare-106736/ http://www.gmtruckclub.com/forum/showthread.php/120918-08-silverado-electrical-issues. *tr
Chimes--any warning chimes-- can not be heard at all, speakers do not work,no warning chimes can be heard at all.keys left in the ignition, turn signals on ,lights left on,seat belt warning, door open,nothing--then,depending on the weather, hot and dry, they may work, the radio may play, winter time--nothing---summer time, sporadic but for the most part--nothing. .two years now.don't matter if going or sitting still, any where, just nothing.
I purchased my 2008 chevrolet silverado crew cab back in 20011. it had approx. 70,000 miles on it at the time of purchase. a few months ago i started having problems with the automatic door locks on the drivers side of my vehicle. i could lock the doors but not unlock them. then a few weeks later, my drivers side speaker went out completely. i am also unable to move the driver and passenger side mirrors in all directions when they need to be adjusted. my cruise control also has recently started working off and on. my passenger side speaker has just recently started going in and out. my left turn signal works but doesn't make any noise when it is turned on. *tr
Both drivers door and passenger door lock actuators are not working. they don't work with key fob, they don't lock or unlock when the truck is put in drive or when the key is turned off and they don't work with the lock switch on the door. this is a safety issue when it comes to children in the vehicle. this seems the 2008 is a bad year for these actuators and gm should recall. they know they were bad. *tr
My dash is cracked in two different places. started out small and are getting larger as time goes on. my power windows and door locks have not worked on the vehicle since i bought it in 2012
The drivers door electric lock stopped working, this seems to be an issue with these trucks the factory should fix this issue. *tr
While driving with cruise control on at highway speeds, the traction stability light came on along with brake light. the door locks activated and all dash backlighting went out. after shutting off engine, all electrical power shut off to include the clock on the radio. i checked battery connections and after wiggling the positive battery cable, the power came on. the clock was set to 12:00, and the a/c was reset to 74. this was the first incident. after several incidents, my truck actually stalled in an intersection and i had to stop in the road to adjust the battery cable. i have had approximately 20 incidents of similar nature, each time with increasing symptoms. at one point, the warning light for the a/c overheating came on. also, the battery and cables become extremely hot, and stay hot after engine shutdown for several hours until the cable is readjusted. i have read several forums looking for a solution, and have concluded the most likely source is a failing positive battery cable. in the forums, it seems that the cable was redesigned in 2007, and has affected all vehicles through 2013. this poses a threat to overheating battery connections which could lead to a fire, and threat of a vehicle collision. *tr
Driver side door locks will not work with keyfob or switch on the either door. *tr
I started having problems with my 2008 chevy silverado extend cab 4.8l engine like electrical, doors, air bags, equipment, and lot of things? *tr
My door locks stopped working with my remote and door locks on the drivers door .the two back doors lock but not the front. i don't like having to lock the doors manually. is the any help out the re from gm. *tr
Bought this vehicle brand new in 2008, had problem with passenger window not operating, dealership changed out actuator. since 2011 the passenger door lock will not engage with fob or with the mechanism on the door nor will it engage when vehicle is put in gear. after reading this web page, it seems to me that this door locking system should be recalled and be repaired at no cost to the customer. *js
Drivers side power lock wont electrically lock with the door switch or key fob. see countless complaints online about this problem. sometimes lock actuates only halfway, and when engine shuts off and placed in park or placed in park with engine still running cannot open door without manually actuating it. *kb
Driver and passenger side door locks have failed. it would appear to be the lock actuator/switch. doors will not lock/unlock automatically. this was a sporadic problem over the last three months and has just started to fail completely. this is not only an inconvenience, this is a safety hazard since the door does not lock when the vehicle is being driven. apparently this is a common problem with the 2008 chevy truck.only 33,500 miles on the vehicle. *tr
I have a 4 door 2008 chevy silverado 1500 and my third power door lock actuator has failed within 1 year. i have 24000 miles on vehicle. a google search indicates this is a problem with this vehicle. i consider this to be a safety issue since the door locks do not lock the doors when in drive. passengers can open the door while vehicle is in motion. there is no doubt in my mind that this is a part defect and should be listed as a safety recall. i would appreciate it if you can look into this matter immediately. thank you! *tr
Driver and rear passenger locks do not work. this is the 2nd time now that these dont work. first it was the front driver side, now its the same side but rear door. it is annoying not having acces to the doors via keyless entry. it was a one of the reason why i bought a keyless entry for safety reason for women. also, i have a grandson who rides with me occasionally, and if emergency occurred, i fear he could be trapped as i would have to insert key to unlock driver door or worse. the rear door has no way to insert any key into door. how do you expect me to save my child if i can't even open it. i have to lower my driver side seat back and reach far back to where locks were placed and manually unlock the back door. recall all trucks back and replace locks in them. this is a serious issue with safety and children safety!!!! this would make 3 locks. one when new purchase vehicle, 2 replaced by dealer and now 3rd its broken again!!!! *kb
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start when the key was turned in the ignition until after several attempts. the failure was recurring over a three year span. there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number 14v047000 (air bags, electrical system) however, the vehicle model was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 99,000.
Short in the electric windows switches for 2008 chevrolet silverado. the drivers front window actuator has been replaced but all four window actuators have gone bad and must be replaced. *tr
Have a 2008 chevy silverado, the rear drivers door lock has failed and won't open; now the front door and window is making a dragging noise. chevy won't stand behind it. but i've seen several reports on line from others with the same problem. what if there was a wreck and someone needed to get to someone in the back or someone needed to get out. plus if the front one gets worse it could happen to them also. have taken it to 2 dealers in the portland or. vancouver wa area, they won't stand behind it and neither will chevrolet. with so many complaints can't something be done to make them honor it. *tr
