Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that a mold odor came out of the air conditioning unit. the odor caused the passengers to cough and their eyes to burn. medical attention was not required. the dealer (preston hood chevrolet, 212 hollywood blvd sw, fort walton beach, fl 32548) stated that the vehicle was not included in tsb: 99-01-39-004i. the manufacturer was contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 110,647.
Dash on my truck is cracked in multiple places, with one near the airbag. i'm concerned that if my airbag ever inflates, pieces of the dash will become projectiles due to how brittle it is. this could cause serious injury.

I was on highway 84 passing another car at speed 75 mph the door locks started came on and off, the safety belt lights came on, the engine started to slow and speed up, the clock went from 4:00 pm to 12:00 pm, the date went to 01/01/2004, the a/c started to blow hot air. i stopped on the shoulder and turned it off, everything stopped only the abs light stayed on. i called onstar to check what's wrong, they said everything looks good, check the tires, if the tires are good, you are good to drive. all tires were 33psi. i reset all the electronic functions and went home. i was in danger for at least 5 minutes in the left lane passing another car.
Cracks on the dashboard suddenly appear at the passenger air bag side and above the radio controls. i'm the original owner and always take care of my truck, this is just very poor quality and possible a safety issue since cracks are next to the air bag! gm must replace this at no cost for the customers!
This vehicle was purchased new in 2008 and with 40,000 miles the dash board has cracked in 3 different places, 1 crack is on the corner of the passenger air bag which could be a safety issue if the airbag deployed. this problem happened just sitting in my driveway.
My dashboard is cracking in multiple places and i'm concerned about the crack around the airbag. if the airbag deploys i'm afraid of sharp flying dash parts killing someone. the dash is very unstable and will eventually fall apart.
The dash on these vehicles crack for no reason at all. i'm a bit worried that if an airbag was deployed that someone could be injured due to the sharp debris from the hard plastic these dashes are made of. there is numerous trucks from gm which these dashes are cracking in the same spots and gm is not recalling them which they should. it is going to end up being a liability and someone will get injured due to there cheap plastic and poor engineering! my truck barely gets drove and sits in my driveway and i have came out twice to find two new cracks out of nowhere!

The dash board started with a small crack, noticed the crack when i got into my vehicle, don't recall the exact date but happened a year or two ago. sometime in july 2016 i got into my vehicle and now the crack has gotten worse. both times when i noticed the cracks my vehicle was parked.
Dash board cracking. dash has already been replaced once. now new dash has cracked in same location as the first. seems to be a common problem but gm will not recall this defect.
My dash has three cracks completely across the middle, and a crack on each side directly in front of driver side and also directly in front of passenger side right in corner around airbag compartment. which my concern is a potential safety hazard! my vehicle was parked in parking lot, in shaded area. i went into store, returned aprx. 30 minutes and saw cracks. they were not there when i exited the vehicle to go in store.

As others are worried, the dash boards of these trucks and suvs in the 07+ model years are prone to crack into pieces, especially around the passenger airbag. the dash can become projectiles upon airbag deployment and can cause injury to occupants of the vehicle. although i'm not aware of this happening, i am concerned, along with many others, that this can pose a very dangerous safety hazard.
My vehicle had been parked all day at work and when i come out of work i noticed my dash had cracked beside the passenger airbag. i feel if the airbag ever go off it will send shrapnel out and cause injury to the passenger or the driver
There is a crack just in front near the windshield on the left side of the passenger air bag in my truck only has 94k miles this is a continued problem as i owned a 2009 tahoe z71 that did not even have 30k miles on it prior to this that had the same problem occur this is a safety concern if the air bag is to deploy it will throw that plastic as a projectile this matter needs to be fixed my gm as there are thousands of trucks and suvs with this problem
With truck stationary, i have inspected and observed the following. dash has cracked through multiple locations to include areas for stored airbags. rattling sound is coming from insecure dash. radio and speakers function intermittently and other times with static. replaced speakers in doors and that did not resolve the problem. drivers seat belt did not connect to receiver end. replaced part ordered from gm parts website. a constant water leak comes from underneath dash along firewall into drivers side floorboards. water soaked carpet and insulation has wicked to rear floor areas. no one has found the water source, but it has rusted driver side door panel screws and ruined carpet. water appears to be worse when using hvacc or defroster. replaced fuel vent valve solenoid underneath truck, near refuel cap/door, three times due to check eng light.
Dashboard has 3 large cracks that occurred with no accidents or trauma to the vehicle. the vehicle was stationary when cracks occurred. the cracks occurred at three different times. the two smaller cracks are around the airbag housing. (see pictures)

Dashboard is cracked all the way across from passenger side and driver side and in the middle. looks like an earthquake. crack is noticeable at all times. the news was on channel 5 wmc-tv, memphis, tn. and was showing andy wise's "investigates" about cracks in dashboards. that is how i obtained this information.
After having driven vehicle a short distance for an appointment, truck would not start an hour later; however, lights came on dash. i waited 10 seconds and tried it again, and it started no problem. then no problem starting the next time but driving around town the radio start shutting off for about 3 seconds before coming back on. this happened a few times, then as i am driving, the entire electrical system starts going haywire, lights flashing on dash with warning lights & messages going off on dash, then everything but the engine shuts off (dash lights, gauges, radio and a/c), after about 5 seconds everything comes back on. i immediately drive to my mechanic who hooked up the computer to my truck and said it was my ignition switch. he said he could not get me in that day and asked me to bring it back the next day. so the rest of that day i did not have any further problems with it. the next day i took it to my mechanic and got the ignition switch replaced. while the mechanic had my truck for several hours until i could go back to pick it up, he said he started it many times and it appeared to be fixed. so i leave the mechanic shop and go back to work, then get off work 2-3 hours later and my truck will not start. after attemping it 3 times, it started. i drive home which is 10 minutes away and turn the truck off and back on. only when i attempt to turn the truck on, it will not start. this time nothing happens...no clicking sound or any attempts of the engine wanting to start....no lights on the dash like before. it was 2 hours later before i was able to get just lights to come on the dash, then another 30 minutes went by before i was able to get my truck to start. this is day 3 of dealing with it and i drove it to work and back home with no problems. i called mechanic who said sounds like a grounding problem. i said sounds like computer system.
The dashboard is cracking and falling apart. it started with cracking around the passenger side airbag. it is now cracking forward of the instrument panel. this is a safety issue if involved in a crash and the airbag deploys. i contacted gm/chevrolet and they said they cannot offer any assistance because of the mileage, 183k. the question is, why are the dashes cracking at all !
When locks are activated with key fob, doors can not be unlocked without using key fob. a person could be trapped inside the vehicle. chevrolet dealers do not have a fix for this.

My father experienced a problem with his 2008 chevy silverado, he had the same switch problem that other chevy vehicles have been recalled for. having the truck checked out by a gmc dealer he was told he would have to pay to have it corrected as it was no longer under warranty. they told him to use only the key and be sure nothing else is attached to the key. that is exactly what the recall stated about the other vehicles that are on the recall list. his problem is the same as those vehicles. so why no recall on his vehicle?
I am writing to you today to express my concern over cracked dashboards due to a faulty product of gm/chevrolet. i have a huge crack in my dashboard which is not caused by maintenance or the sun. this vehicle also has not been in an accident that could of caused this. i have 3 other people at my work that has this same problem in the same spot. you can also read about several other stories online with the same issue. gm refuses to put out a recall to fix their faulty product. i fear that in an accident this will cause pieces of the dashboard to fly about the vehicle causing further injuries to a passenger if the airbag deploys.

My dash is cracked on the left side of airbag. this happened a little over a year ago. the dash now is cracked in two places on the left side of airbag and also on driverside of dash. i have contacted dealer and also general motors when i first noticed this in 2014. i also contacted them again in 2015, i was told this is not a safety issue. my concern is they told me that i know this is a problem and i need to fix this or i am responsible if there is a problem with airbag deploying or a piece of the dash injuring someone in the event that the airbag does deploy. i feel this a safety issue that needs to be recalled.
Dashboard started a small crack on top of dashboard surrounding there passenger airbag. another crack started on top dashboard and traveled to the windshield. the dash is now separated into two pieces. the dealer explained my warranty excluded trim and could not warranty the part. no accident or trauma was the cause. general motors was notified and they were not any help in this matter. i now fear sharp plastic will be expelled in the cab if airbag is deployed.

The dashboard is cracked in 3 places, one of which is touching the passenger side airbag. the cracked edges of the plastic are sharp and would do serious damage to a passenger in the event of an accident and/or airbag deployment. the truck is very well taken care of and is kept clean and well serviced. the dashboard cracked while the truck was parked. one of the cracks is in the center of the dashboard and splits the dash into two pieces.
The dash has developed cracks that may cause injuries to any body part that contacts it due to sharp edges. it may also cause injury during a crash and possibly by airbag deployment. i understand this is a problem on most of these vehicles. these cracks developed without physical force or any induced damage. the cracks happened while the vehicle was parked.

In 2013 the transmission went out 2 months after 3yr warranty less than 20 thousand miles called chevy would not help me. replaced transmission now 2017 transmission went out again. my doors don't unlock passenger window don't go down i would never buy a chevy again i was driving both times and it left me stranded.
Dash starting cracking around passenger air bag three years ago and is now cracking in two more places above the radio. gm refuses to make any effort to help with the outrageous cost of repairing this defect. i have great concerns about shards of plastic flying in cab from the recalled tokata air bags that are in this vehicle that i am still waiting on gm to come up with a replacement for.
I have a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500 like many others i have a cracked dashboard. one of them is a small crack next to the passenger airbag and another much larger one is on the drivers side above the gauges. i've always kept my dashboard covered when it was parked with a cover that goes across the windshield and used a product protect and keep the dashboard new. to me it seems like the problem stems from improperly placed screws and clasps or possibly an inferior material for the dashboard.
