Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving at 30 mph and making a right turn, the steering wheel was difficult to maneuver. the engine and power steering warning lights illuminated. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 57,000.

The steering tightens up, rack & pinion needs replacement and steering box is malfunctioning car was put in park and restarted, the power steering was not working and steering became extremely difficult, almost like manual steering. steering wheel would shake intermittently. with these conditions, i was advised not to drive this vehicle. with all the complaints about this malibu and all the problems with the ignition, which is in the steering column, my problems are probably related. to repair would cost around $2000.00 without labor. *tr

I was driving on the highway then all of a sudden the car beeps and the power steering stops in the steering column and power steering flashes on the stereo screen. when i stop the car and start it back the power steering works fine. sometimes it works as it should and sometimes it stops working mostly at higher speeds. i'll cut the car off at different times then restart it and the power steering works fine. it goes in and out often. *tr

Wife driving in town when power steering information came up on the radio screen. steering wheel started to violently jerk to the right. then the power steering shut down and forced my wife to struggle with steering to get to a safe area parking lot. vehicle was turned off. upon re-ignition, power steering returned. four incidents of similar occurrence since then. wife won't drive car now. very dangerous considering potential ramifications to causing crash. 75000 miles at start of problem. why has this not been recalled. can gm smell lawsuit should any family be injured due to this? they know of the problem but expect consumers to lay out over 1000.00 dollars to fix a problem caused by defective gm parts/vehicle. liability is on gm. *tr

The electric power steering has failed several times almost causing my son to crash into another vehicle. my wife almost ran into a building and other vehicles because of the failure and now refuses to drive it. this has occurred weekly for the last two years sometimes with the failure lasting several minutes to several days. gm has recalled other years and needs to include all 2007 malibu before there are more fatalities.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the power steering assist failed. the contact would have to shut off and restart the vehicle for the steering assist to return to normal function. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure could not be duplicated. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 96,000.

The powersteering would inadvertently get stiff and the powersteering indicator light would come on to indicate an issue. inquired of any recalls and gm and the dealership said there were none at the time scheduled the vehicle for repair on april 3, 2014 and since then gm has recalled many models for the powersteering issue except for the 2007 mailbu which i feel should be taken care of by gm since they know this is a defect in the powersteering. as of todays date my vehicle is not among the recall and it should be i should not have to pay for this repair gm should make this right. *tr

Upon starting my car, i had no power steering and the display read "service power steering." after shutting the car off, it will reset. this incident has happened five times. upon checking with a dealership, they informed me that there was a recall for 2005, 2006, and 2008 malibus but not for 2007, and, therefore, i would be responsible for the repair. i'm frustrated that i'm experiencing the same problem as the other models but it is not recognized as a recall in the 2007 model. why??? *tr

My steering wheel pulsate whenever it feels like it. my steering wheel locks up while i am driving. i have to turn my car off and then turn it back on in order to have power steering. i have spent money for rotors resurfaced, alignment, and tie rods. i am worried about this situation causing an accident. i have taken it to dealer where i was informed there was nothing wrong. there are a ton of complaints. *tr

While driving on the highway, the electric power assist steering stopped working. after i got off the highway, i shut off my car and restarted it about 10 minutes later. the steering was back to normal. this has happened several time since then and fear something tragic could happen. i contacted central chevrolet in west springfield massachusetts and they ran the vin. service department stated that there have been several recalls for that same issue it not for this particular car. what is it going to take before general motors recalls the thousands of cars with the same issue? let's get these cars fixed before a tragic accident happens. I have a 2007 malibu which i drive back and forth to work everyday on the highway. on wed. 2/26/14 i felt a pulsing vibration while driving on the highway. a short while later i lost the power steering completely which needless to say was very dangerous trying to get to the side of the highway in heavy traffic with no power steering. i had to have my car towed to my local mechanic who told me that the problem was in the electronic power steering system. the parts were ordered at a cost of $856.54 and the total cost with labor was $1272.07. i have since been on-line and read page after page of problems with the electronic power steering for this year malibu. i, as well as many others are wondering why this very dangerous problem has not been handled with a recall. please advise. *tr

While driving on a sunny afternoon at 50 mph, the power steering service message displayed on the radio and the electronic power assist went out. was able to pull off road and into a gas station. turned off car. when returned to the car, started the car and the power steering functioned fine. over the past five weeks since the first incident of this happening, it has happened 6 additional times. each time the problem resets itself once the car has been turned off, allowed to sit off for a couple of minutes, and then restarted. other vehicles with similar electronic power assist motors have been recalled, but for some reason this model has not been recalled. a non-dealership automotive service center indicated that this problem was part of a recall, and refused to perform the service. dealership was willing to perform the service, as long as i paid, since the vin did not come up in the recalls for the electronic power assist. dealership indicated that sensor in steering column was faulty, but to replace i would need to replace entire steering column. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while reversing from a residential garage, the power steering assist failed and caused the steering wheel to seize. the contact stated that the power steering warning lamp was also illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the electronic power steering assist motor and the steering column needed to be replaced due to a defect. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 109,945 and the current mileage was 110,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the power steering failed. the contact mentioned that the steering wheel was very hard to turn. the failure occurred on two occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, who replaced the electronic steering column and air bag module. the contact stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 14v252000(electrical system , electronic stability control , exterior lighting , service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). the approximate failure mileage was 106,888.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph attempting to make a right turn, the steering wheel seized without warning. the vehicle the was towed to an independent mechanic. the power steering pump was replaced but the failure recurred. the vehicle was towed back to the independent mechanic where the power steering pump, rack and pinion, and two pressure lines were replaced. the failure recurred. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 189,000.

The problem started as a clunking noise when i would turn my steering wheel. power steering would intermittently go out and come back upon restarting car. now it's almost always gone and if it does work it goes out at any given moment, after dinging to let me know. after having my car looked at i found out the entire steering column needs replaced along with the electronic assist module costing me almost 1400.00 in repairs for a faulty electronic power steering system. i am legitimately concerned for the safety of all '05, '06, and '07 malibu drivers. this is so unsafe. i've come close to having an accident 5 times now due to this problem. when i called general motors the woman said that they changed the power steering on all malibu's after '07 this tells me they know it's a problem but just don't care. they also offered to help pay for the fix with their 70,000 mile/5 year warranty, but won't recall the parts or vehicle and most fail around or after 100,000 miles. this is unjust and dangerous not only to the drivers of these cars but also to everyone else on the road. *tr

(chevrolet malibu 2007) my power steering intermittently went out and the wheel jerks when your just sitting idle. now my power steering is completely gone. many chevrolet vehicles had this exact issue and were recalled however they did not recall my vehicle. gm dealership performed diagnostic test and informed me i needed to replace steering column which would cost $1000, they would not cover any of it. im not happy with chevy and do not plan on purchasing anymore vehicles with them. *tr

When starting the vehicle, i receive the 'power steering' message on the dic (dashboard information center) on the radio display, and there is no power steering on the vehicle. when i turn the car off for about 15 seconds and then restart it, the power steering functionality is restored. this scenario has been intermittent for about a week. also lost power steering while driving (however all other equipment was fine - electrical, engine running), at about 20 mph with same display on dic. was able to turn car off for same 15 seconds and restart vehicle and power steering was restored. seeing multiple similar complaints online for same year vehicle with no recall on this model year. *tr

Power steering notice randomly appeared on my radio. the power steering shut off while driving my car almost causing a crash. i had to turn the car off and start it again in the middle of the road to get it to work. i was told by gm customer service that they do not cover this issue even though many people are experiencing the same problem. this is a dangerous issue that needs to be addressed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated while driving, at no particular speed, while making a right turn the vehicle lost power steering. when the failure occurred warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel and the steering wheel was hard to turn. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the steering column and the module. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage 77,279.

I was driving on the interstate and my car jerks over and almost hit a 4 wheeler. on my radio it shouted power steering and went out. i have called gmc 3 times total regarding this issue. i just wanted to take it to them to get problem fixed, but they never got back with me. first time it happened the customer service rep was very rude and didn't want to help me. the second time i called the representative stated that she will get the local dealership to call me so we can sell a appointment, never received a call. the third time i chatted online they spouse to contact me and it never happened. i will never buy gmc again. they don't stand behind their product and definitely don't value their customers business. this is dangerous and needs to be addressed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the power steering assist failed. the contact would have to shut off and restart the vehicle for the steering assist to return to normal function. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 140,000 and the current mileage 154,000. updated 07/15/14 ma the consumer also stated, while sitting in the vehicle, the steering wheel would shimmy to the left and right on its own, while making a strange noise. updated 07.17.14

Turned the car on and the power steering was not working. a few hours later i turned the car back on and it worked fine. have turned it on a few more times since and every time the power steering has been out and the message on the radio has come up. *tr

After parking car briefly, came out started it and steering hard, on center console was message for power steering. i looked for belts, thinking it had a pump and belt. it did not. has electronic steering over hydraulics. anyway turned key off and back on, steering was fine, this happened for a few days, some times you could cycle key once, others it could take multiple times. also while sitting still and car running, steering wheel would jerk to left. i took car to local dealer for repairs. an electronic module had failed, causing progressive damage to steering column. total cost$1199.90. looking online, recalls were issued for 2004-2006, 2008 and 2009 models having same issue. the warranties on these unit were extended til 10 years 150,000 miles. i have called gm and they have yet to give me a verbal response. if safety is such a huge concern of theirs, and steering is a safety issue. they should admit they have an issue, include the 2007 models and correct it. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the power steering assist failed. the power steering warning light did not illuminate until after the failure occurred. the contact shut off the engine and once restarted, the power steering assist returned to normal function. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 184,000.

On the 11th my steering wheel started to shake when i was stopped. it continues to shake whenever i'm stopped at a light. the next morning i tried driving and the steering wheel would not move also, the power steering light showed on the dashboard! *tr

This vehicle has the same electrical power steering assist unit as other gm models that have been recalled yet they won't recall the '07. it will kick off randomly while driving and then sometimes kick back on in the middle of a curve. i have almost ran off the road a couple times because of this. i no longer allow my wife to drive my car because i fear she won't be strong enough to maneuver the car safely when the power steering disables. this needs recalled. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving 5 mph in reverse, the power steering warning light illuminated as the steering wheel became very difficult to turn. the contact stated that she restarted the vehicle and it functioned properly. the vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic for inspection where they stated that the power steering pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 131,000.

Was traveling down the highway and alarm sounded check power steering and there was nothing there.

Intermittent / occasional "steering lock" ,"torque steer". while turning, under acceleration a warning bell rings, the steering "locks" for a "second". foot off the accelerator and normal steering returns. it took me a little while to understand the "bell" as i was concentrating on the steering and don't notice any warning lights. while only happening "rarely" it happened three times in one day last week. curious why other years of this model (with electric power steering assist) are under recall and not this model. *js

The car lost power steering with no prior notice causing the car to be very hard to drive and unsafe. i have researched and there are tons of people experiencing similar problems with their electrict power steering. the 2005, 2006 and 2008 malibus have had recalls for the same problem but not the 2007?? *tr

First noticed issue when leaving dentist office and i started car , tried to back out and steering didn't work. i could turn the steering wheel, like having no power steering but worse. so i turned off car and restarted the car and then the power/ electronic steering worked. then two days later i was driving down hwy 114 going to work early morning, and in the middle of me driving the steering went out again. i have had some old cars where the power steering went out and i had to "muscle" the steering so i did that the remainder of the way to work. good thing i am physically strong enough to do that or i probably would have been in an accident. got to work cut car off and started it back and the steering returned. i notice no recalls for the 2007 malibu and dealership way more than i could afford to fix. did have another licensed mechanic replace the rack and pinion system and electronic steering and so far so good. however this should not have been my cost for a defective system in the malibu where a lot of other models got recalls but not the 2007. i feel i should be reimbursed my funds to fix. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the power steering assist suddenly malfunctioned, making the vehicle difficult to steer. the contact would have to shut off and restart the engine in order to reset the power steering assist. the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic, who stated that they could not fix the error because it was an electrical failure. the manufacturer was contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 134,000. the vin was not available.

I was driving down the highway,i heard a dinging noise. i looked at the audio display and it said power steering. it was nearly impossible to turn. once i shut it off,it reset and things seemed normal. a week and a half later it did the same thing as i was driving on the highway going about 65 mph. i was able to pull off and turn the car off and reset it once more. it has happened every time i have turned the car on since. i have noticed there have been recalls for same make, model, different year and yet no one seems to care about the safety of the people driving the 2007. the dealership said it could range from $600.00-$1,200.00 depending on what the"code"read. i cant afford that amount of money for them not to guarantee a fix. i drive over 40 miles one way to work a day and would like some assurance i can make it there and home safely. please help!!!!!!!! *tr

I experienced my steering wheel lock up on several instances. i automatically started my car to go to work at 5am. when i arrived to my car to leave the wheel was tight to turn. i instantly panicked because i never experience this before. i turned the car off and restarted it was fine. it was frightening as i drove my car on the expressway over 10 miles to work. i figured maybe it was some strange glitch because it didn't happen again. recently i have experienced this issue in the worst way. i can't park and it i so frustrating to even think how am i going to turn this car at traffic lights and corners. i believe the dealership does not want to repair it in a recall because it is quoted at a costly price. why would they choose to put an electric power steering pump on this car? chevy was a brand i could trust. i' m not so sure about them now. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. while driving at a low speed and making a turn, the steering wheel became difficult to turn and the contact lost control of the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 14e044000 and 15v064000 (steering). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

having a problem with electric steering that needs to be replaced along with thousands of other gm customers. gm will not fix it and it has been making a noise for 20000 miles now and getting worse. this is bad business. *tr

The power steering will just stop working as you drive. it used to be that turning the car off and restarting it would reboot it, but now it is just not working. the dealer said it is the same unit as the cobalt and there was a recall on that, but that there has been no recall for the malibu. apparently there is a problem with these columns. the problem continues. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the steering wheel seized and shook abnormally while driving 20 mph. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic, who stated that the power steering needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the issues. the failure mileage was 150,000 and the current mileage was 170,000.

I have reported to gm on three separate occasions that my power steering is faulty. it has come to my attention that the 2006 and 2008 models of this car were recently listed among the recall. i would also like to add that gm was not at all willing to disclose to me that i may report this problem to you to get this model included. imagine that! i am wanting to inform you that factory defect exists with the 2007 model as well. i went and had tires put on my car last saturday and asked the technician to see if anything was loose underneath, as it often felt that way while driving. he reported back, in writing, that my car's rack and pinion is not working correctly. i often encounter the power steering not working upon starting the car. i have found through reading on the internet that removing the key and restarting the car will reset the power steering. so far, this has worked. my fear is that it will eventually not reset or worse, loose power steering while driving. if my model is not being included due to lack of complaints, that is so wrong. i imagine they like me, do not know how to report it to you. it's not a lack of problem. the problem absolutely does exist with this model as well. thank you. *tr

Traveling 60 mph on mountain pass and power steering alert came up on my radio screen then i lost power steering causing the vehicle to pull hard to one side. i had absolutely no power steering. i pulled the car over and turned the vehicle off. when i turned the vehicle back on it reset itself and the power steering worked again. it has done this to me several times. i travel across the mountain pass several times a month sometimes on very icy roads. if this were to happen on the icy roads, i run a severe risk of a wreck that could easily cause major injury or death. *tr

The electric power steering of my 2007 chevy malibu needs to be completely replaced. all of the other years for this make are being recalled. the power steering was originally locking up when i started my car, but now it is locking up while i am driving. this year needs to be recalled as well. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the power steering sensor warning light illuminated as the power steering assist suddenly malfunctioned, making the vehicle difficult to steer. the contact indicated that the power steering defect was intermittent but the defect was recurring. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 100,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 55 mph, the power steering failed and the warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. the contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and deactivated the engine. once restarted, the vehicle operated normally. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that a part associated with the power steering needed to be replaced. the ignition switch was also defective. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 200,000. updated 09/02/14*lj the consumer stated while attempting to avoid a pothole the steering became difficult to maneuver. the tire hit the pothole and broke the hub cap. the consumer pulled a muscle in the right arm. the consumer did seek care with a physician. the vehicle's ignition began to fail making it difficult to start up. the vehicle may or may not have been included in a recall. updated 09/16/2014 *js

I have a 2007 chevrolet malibu that the power steering keeps cutting out. the last time this happened i was traveling 35 miles per hour when a deer ran out in front of me. i almost hit a tree. i am very grateful that my children were not in the car. i have researched the issue and it appeared gm has already recalled some models for the 2006 and 2008 with the same power steering issue. i was wondering if you would take this issue into consideration and look into possibly recalling the 2007 model as well. during my research, i discovered that other people have had problems with the same issue. thank you. looking forward to hearing from you. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the mechanic diagnosed that the control module and the power steering column needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

Randomly losing power steering. happened once briefly in august 2013. took it for a diagnostic test immediately after this incident and was told nothing was wrong. started happening on 12/7/13 and hasn't stopped. i had the car looked at by a mechanic on 12/10/13 who disassembled the steering column/dashboard, etc. and was told that nothing is wrong. on 12/16/13, it was taken to another mechanic, who test drove it and ran another diagnostic test and once again told me nothing is wrong and to pick up my car. since then, i have been randomly losing the power almost daily to multiple times daily. i commute approx. 30 miles to and from work and have had to drive with no power steering at high rates of speed. to make it worse, the weather has been very bad the past week so i have been a nervous wreck not knowing when the power steering is going to go out. within the past year, both my airbag and door ajar warnings have come on randomly when i have no door ajar. i wasn't as concerned since they are not an immediate danger. when i lose power steering the car does "ding" and "power steering" flashes on my audio system. if i am able to(not on the freeway)then i pull over, turn the car off and then back on. sometimes this corrects the problem and sometimes it does not. sometimes it will go awhile without this happening and sometimes it happens multiple times in a row. i am planning on taking it to a local dealership this weekend and hoping i don't get into an accident in the meantime. when i just spoke to the dealership the gentleman on the phone said that this is a common problem and he knows there are some recalls. from what i can see there are recalls on every year surrounding mine. this is extremely dangerous and something needs to be done. i hope the dealership is able to correct the problem and i don't end up spending hundreds of dollars and this is still going to happen. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the power steering assist suddenly malfunctioned, making the steering wheel very difficult to turn. the contact stated that the failure was recurring. the vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic, who advised that the entire steering control would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not yet repaired. the manufacturer was notified and no solution was offered. the failure mileage was 120,000. *tr
