We have classified the 135 complaints from 2014 Chevrolet Impala about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Driving on the highway and dash notification popped up that i needed to service my power steering, service my stabiltrac, service abs. i lost power (electric) steering and barely able to exit and park safely. i'm a small woman with not much strength and i could hardly turn my wheel with every bit of muscle. this is not safe! i could've been seriously injured or died along with other drivers/vehicles! this needs to be a complete recall!!!!
The vehicle had water damage from 'clogged sunroof drains', which cause water to run all down the side and back panels causing an extensive amount of damage from one horrible design flaw. some of the things effected was electrical company's such as electronic parking break was engaged and would not release cause the vehicle not to move! next was corrosion on several other inside wires having to do with steering and possibly air bags, but who knows if they will be effective until there is an accident and it's too late to find out if they are dmamged. other safety features such as side detection was corroded so it too malfunctioned. there was a lot of other electrical things damaged but the car is in the shop and i don't know what else could be a huge safe concern. there is now so much mold which is dangerous to be breathing in if not totally replaced. there is an extensive amount of water in the spare tire wheel well that is causing rust and the inability to use this safety feature if needed! this became a horrible safety concern for myself and whomever my be traveling in my vehicle. please do research into this because i could not believe this could happen to a car with only 70,000 miles! my car is in the shop so i cannot take any pictures of it! please help!
While at red lights all electronics will turn off. the car has to be restarted. the lights, locks, and screens go off intermittently while driving.
Side mirror light stays on with car off...also shut down of heater instrument lights while driving.
While i was driving on the highway, my vehicle gave me a 'service side detection system' warning. a few more miles down the road, i smelled an electrical smell almost like something was burning. luckily, i made it home and am taking it to the dealership tomorrow. it was very scary and i'm thankful my 1 year old son wasn't in the car with me at that time.
While driving in town- side detection message appears on dash. left side detection indicator stays on. vehicle taken to dealership for service. service technician informs me the detection module is corroded, likely from moisture. the statement reads two "miscellaneous body electrical- repair" recommendations totalling $1104.91. i can not afford this. i ask if we can disable or turn off the sensor and i am told no. i ask if neglecting to replace the corroded module can cause further disruptions with the vehicle, including safety systems, and i am told yes, it can. this is outrageous. the module should never be made in a way where it is susceptible to water damage, especially given its placement in the rear bumper. this is negligent design and complete disregard for safety, the user, or the product. i hope i havent left anything important out. i am trying to be factual and keep my frustration aside.
Side detection lights don't work and followed all the ideas to make them work other than replacing them.was going down the round and was going to make a turn and the lights weren't working. the next time they work ,now there out completely.
Side detection warning system failed and as a result while i was driving the electrical cluster and air bag system alert theft alert starting beeping flashing only half of the stuff works when it feels like it i cant drive the car air bags could deploy at anytime trunk could open doors come unlocked you cant see how fast your going so my car is parked in a garage undrivable
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet impala. while driving 70 mph, all the instrument cluster warning indicators became inoperable and the vehicle failed to turn off. the contact had to disconnect the battery to turn off the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to feldman chevrolet of lansing (2801 e michigan ave, lansing, mi 48912, (517) 489-4858) where it was diagnosed that the safety sensors were inoperable and there was water intrusion in the side sensor module. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 130,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the air bag and service air bag warning indicators illuminated. also, the vehicle exhibited difficulty starting and experienced electrical system failure. the contact stated that the instrumental panel darkened, the rpms provided incorrect readings, and the turn signals failed to work. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the battery and the alternator; however, the repair did not correct the failures. the contact stated that the vehicle had front vented heated seats and should be included in nhtsa campaign numbers 15v465000 (air bags). the manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vin was not included in the recall. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 103,000.
Bought car about 6 months ago had 52,000 miles on it seemed to be a decent car until today dec 1, 2019 driving on the highway at about 70 miles an hour with ice covered roads power steering went out , and stabilitrak, a long with abs all at once and prompted service lights in dash and info screen power steering was so stiff i could barely turn or control car and almost slammed into median luckily not hitting another vehicle drove to nearest exit and turned car off turned back on after about 7 min and still same things in dash thankfully this didn't end worse my car can now barely steer and service lights are on going to try to see about talking to someone at dealership tommaro it seems a lot of people are having this problem with this car
My side detection system is malfunctioning and causing all my other electrical system act up.
Oil control solenoid valve failure causing loss of power, instability at all speeds, and surging of engine. gm does not have any parts to repair this item and does not have a eta on when they will get them, there are no aftermarket options availible either due to the rate of failure. gm part# 12633613
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet impala. when the vehicle was started, all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that the passenger side hub sensor needed to be replaced. the contact was given an estimate for the repairs. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist because the vehicle was out of warranty. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 89,926.
I received a recall letter for the side blind zone alert message on my impala and i did not understand the wording in the letter "of it being covered within 6 years of the date your vehicle was originally placed in service." i thought it meant it couldn't be older than 6 years old but wasn't sure what placed in service meant and also not have over 80,000 miles on it. my vehicle has almost 26,000 and my date was september 13 per the local dealership, so when i called to make an appointment they told me it was not covered anymore. i had an appointment in august but had to cancel it as my mom was just put into hospice at that point. you would think they would put in the letter my date of originally placed in service but it would make it a lot easier to understand. i am hoping that i can still have it fixed and not have to pay for something that gm made incorrectly. my side blind alert comes on every time i turn my car on and doesn't work in the rain when i am driving. i thought this feature was to help people be more safe on the road and lessen crashes but it seems to be about money for gm or else they would fix it. i paid a lot of money for my impala and its special features and though i know things will need to be fixed, i shouldn't have to pay for gm's mistake when manufacturing the vehicle. thank you.
Service side detection comes on the dash everytime the car is started. recently i tried to enter my vehicle and the fob did not unlock the doors after several attempts. once it did, the car would not start. after several attempts of starting the vehicle it finally worked, but the gauges kept turning on and off even while the car was in motion as well as the door locks. this is the first time this has happened, but it was quite concerning while driving.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet impala. when the contact attempted to start the vehicle, it shook and shut off. also, the check engine indicator illuminated. also, while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled, shut off, and the check engine indicator illuminated. the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 14v614000 (electrical system). the contact drove the vehicle to robert woodall chevrolet, buick, gmc, cadillac (1063 riverside dr, danville, va 24540, 434-797-1411) and was informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was unknown.
Started my vehicle and power steering warning came on, dismissed it, stability control warning appeared, dismissed it, traction control light and abs light remained on. this occurred when leaving a friend's driveway and driving onto a county road. the power steering was inoperative! took vehicle to repair shop. mechanic found left rear wheel speed sensor ring broken. this should not happen! there are 50215 miles on this car and it is very well maintained.
I had a problem with the lane departure modules that explode and and caused my system to fail. saying that my airbag deployed, my gas was empty, they theft is detected, the a/c blower motor turned on and off, finally i got the modules replaced, but now there are new safety issues happening. the light on the mirror to tell if someone is next to me turns on all the time. i almost ran off the raid because i was changing lanes and it went off and now one was there. the backup sensors are delayed in telling me if something is behind me or coming behind me. the front system does not make the car slow down when i am in cruse control and a car goes slo infornt of me. i don't trust that the airbag will go off if it needs to in a collision.. i really don't feel safe in this car.
Car stalls when i turn off the a/c in the middle of traffic sometimes this started a week after i purchased the vehicle i spent a lot of money trying to get it fixed by the dealer but it still shuts down
Driving along on freeway when all of a sudden my dash lit up with various flashing lights and warnings, the cruise control shut off and my hvac stopped functioning. had to pull over on busy highway and restart to no avail. pulled over again once i got to rest stop. let it sit. restarted and worked okay. internet says problem is with side detection system (which dealer confirmed but said my car missed cut-off date by 5 days on a $700 repair bill. car has but 12,300 miles on it (i am 92 years old). internet also states that if issue is not fixed it will eventually cause serious issues with dashboard electronics, including fire. gm issued special coverage adjustment #n172097060 (no owner notification), which is what i was told i missed out on by 5 days.
Side detection system failure upon starting vehicle. failure will not reset
In my 2014 chevy impala lt i have noticed that when it rains or when washing the car water seems to leak into the car in the trunk and into the area where the spare tire sits. however it's not noticeable as the carpet in the trunk does not appear to be bet untill you lift it up. another thing i noticed with this was that my locks on the doors were locking and unlocking by themselves and at one point the vehicle did not respond to the unlock request from the transponder. i then used onstars remote unlock after trying every button on the transponder to gain entry to the vehicle. short time after that experience i have noticed my parking break to activate it's self after being parked and the car being shut off i would come back and see that the parking light would be on and i'd have to press the break to unlock the parking break. when the cars parking break goes on the car is parked on a flat surface. i want the car to repeat the issues so they may be recorded on video however i don't want to damage my vehicle as i take pride in the product that i have purchased.
Service blind detection system. this warning came on after 1 day of purchasing my 2014 impala so i took car back and the dealer took it to chevy to fix the recall but i was told that they're to many miles on my vehicle. this issue needs to be fixed because i'm within my 15days if used vehicle warranty and if this issue continues this could cause other issues as i have read due to reviews on this issue. because now it becomes a bigger issue and could cause lawsuits due to being not covered and with being out of the mileage coverage period could really destroy a company because it's just not safe. i would like more information and how this could be fixed because this is a new purchase and i haven't even had the vehicle 5 days and if this vehicle starts a electrical fire/ problem it becomes a bigger issue can you please fix my issue and make exceptions to this recall mess.
Driving on city street at or about 35 mph, service stabilitrak indicator light comes on. the vehicle thereafter begins to shutter and sputters intermittently. pressing on the accelerator, the vehicle has significant power loss.
Takata recall my steering assist light is on as well as stabilitrack is on occurred after going through water crossing
I am getting the message "service side detection system" and no longer have indicator flashes in side mirrors when being overtaken by another vehicle. the message comes on when i start the car.
Side detection system failure. module absorbing moisture. detection light on side mirror stays on, even when car is off. instrument cluster flashes various warnings. gm is aware that it is due to a defective part but limits coverage to certain mileage. seems like a part that could cause a fire near the gas tank would be a big enough safety hazard to warrant a full recall. issue first happened while driving through town. gave warnings on the side detection, then light stayed on in the side view mirror.
Originally my blind zone detection was the only thing popping up on my dashboard but my car and functions ran find except the detection feature..but then codes like airbag, traction control, abs, front camera, parking asssistant appeared all over my dash board and then the radio, heating system, speedometer, rpm, gas and heating gage all stopped working. i checked online and these seems to be a huge problem that gm should be responsible for!! the dealership expects me to pay 1300 this is not far only had this car for a year and half smh please push for a recall it's not safe to be driving with air bags not working or turning signals not work...
Mileage: 89000 customer received a letter from gm stating an extended warranty is now available regarding the side blind zone detection system error that displays over the entire dash display panel. the warranty was extended to 6 years from the date vehicle was placed in service and 80,000 miles. many of the vehicles affected by this are experiencing this issue at just over 80,000 miles or have gone past 80,000 miles due to gm's lack of a timely response to this issue that has affected several people. the service side detection message appears upon starting the vehicle and remains to block the digital info center until it is dismissed by the driver who has to move the thumb to press the button. this message also re-appears after driving for several miles causing the driver to look away from the road to acknowledge the alert. the rear side detection modules were placed behind the rear wheels and collect water, dust, dirt, and debris causing failure. gm should redesign this housing to better protect the modules in the future
Side detection system sensors are located on the inside of the rear bumper panel on either side, they detect cars in the blind spot. the sensors are located in a poor location to begin with, they are in direct line of fire with road and tire debris, salt water, gravel, sand, snow, mud, etc. over time, the natural elements seep into the cracks of these sensors and/or their wiring harnesses at the connections, and cause malfunctioning of this system. minimally, the problem can be resolved by replacing the sensors and/or harnesses for brand new ones. at the worst, these malfunctioned sensors cause other electrical malfunctions and subsequently increased road hazards and driving conditions by the way that it can lead to the driver info center going black, the radio cutting out, all the interior and gauge cluster lights going out while on the road. if left unresolved because many customers and drivers would much rather wait for an official recall and continue driving, many will be at risk.
Blind spot warning not working, gm not willing to replace modules on car with ones that have since been updated. new modules are sealed and resist water intrusion, old modules do not.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the side detection module failed to operate properly while driving. the contact drove to joe holland chevrolet & imports (210 maccorkle ave sw, south charleston, wv 25303, 304-744-1561) to have the failure repaired. the dealer informed the contact that the parts were not available and were on backorder. the manufacturer was contacted and provided a case number. the vehicle remained at the dealer and had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 85,000.
Blind spot safety light module went bad due to poor design, general motors has a warranty up to 80,000 miles, i took my car to the dealer, they said there's no code reading, but failed to actually check the module itself, after extensive research i found out they are subject to starting fires, a gm engineer made a statement about the poor wording in there extended warranty service, i'm afraid the car may catch fire because of their failure to actually check the module itself, i believe both blind spot light modules should be replaced as gm knows about this problem.
Side detention sensor alert came on a day or two ago. today while driving numerous dash lights and alarms came on. i had no gauges and could not signal while driving. had my daughter in car. very dangerous. i had the sensors replaced a year ago which cost me over $1,000.
According to an april 2019 letter from chevrolet/gm, side blind-zone alert sensor is known to need replacement. their letter says to have it repaired at any gm dealer, but there are no parts available. i've called the dealer 3 times and they have no eta for the back-ordered parts. today i called gm directly and they do not even have an eta for when these parts may be available. the rep i spoke to today realized this was pretty absurd, but obviously providing the parts goes above his pay grade. i don't know what else to do.
Side detection not working, getting errors
The blindspot detection system module failed and it messed up all my electrical systems in the car thw speedometer rpm and fuel and temperature gauges bottomed out to 0. all the lights came on . the vehicle was in motion doing 79 mph on the interstate. on star thought i was in an accident.
Side detection module defective due to being exposed to elements (rain mud snow salt) cause electronic functional issues with power steering air bag revere backup assist entire gauge malfunction.. general motors will not recall this is a serious safety issue with countless complaints on car gurus website
When starting the vehicle 5e 'service stabilitrack' light will turn on; the gear will be on manual instead of int he park position - and i am unable to switch the gear. i am not able to put it in drive. i have to turn it off and on a couple of times before it will start on park. the car has also switched to the manual position when i'm driving and making a left turn. this happens more frequently after it's rained the service engine light comes on, but after a few days it turns off. the problem of going from park to manual or from being in drive to manual has happened both while the car is in motion or when it is stationary- it's also happened on a busy highway or in town at low speed.
Side detection system: this is the second replacement of "side detection system" sensors, at 98000 miles. first was eight months ago. mechanic reported this is "a huge problem." gm is unable to keep the sensors in stock it maybe a month or more to get it fixed. affects safety and security of passengers.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the side detection module on the driver's side no longer functioned. an unknown warning indicator alerted the contact that the side detection indicator was not functioning. the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was determined that the driver's side module was defective. the manufacturer and dealer were not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 37,000.
Key is stuck in ignition and call will not turn on
What my information center said is service side detection system. chevrolet wants ant where from $400.00 to 1200.00 to replace this module. it has screwed up my everything so it seems. i'm so afraid that the gas will stick or the brake won't work. i believe that this module controlling so many things in my vehicle is a huge safety hazard. by the way i was driving on my side street about 40 mph when the gas pedal did not work for about 10 seconds or so.
Side detection system quit working. however it is connected to the main computer so sometimes my car will idle poorly and rev high. this could present a huge problem if it revs high when trying to brake for a car in front of me. i have also heard people with the same model having issues with it stalling. so this presents it's own problems. seems no different than the loss of power like gm had with their ignition switches.
Side blind zone alert stopped working due to the poor design of the modules. this caused my gas gauge and odometer to stop working. in addition, the following lights came on and said they needed to be serviced: air bags, tires, theft system, check engine. after all of this, my car wouldn't start. i was left stranded. the faulty modules scrambled my computer in my car. the cost of this repair is around $1400 to fix, plus the modules will fail again and need to be replaced again. the modules are a poor design from gm. this seems to be an ongoing issue with these cars. currently, gm hasn't been held responsible to fix the design of these modules. not only do we have to pay for the repair of the faulty modules. we paid and still pay a hefty price for this vehicle. i wish i knew about this issue before i purchased this car. my car was parked and when i tried to start it, it wouldn't start. i finally was able to start it. as i drove it to the shop, i didn't have any speed odometer, turning signals or lights. this was very dangerous due to driving on a 4 lane highway in a busy city. to lose all gauges, lights, turn signals and to have other numerous "check" lights come on is very unsafe. i could have been rear ended.
Tl* the contact owned a 2014 chevrolet impala. while the vehicle was parked and turned off, an explosion occurred and flames appeared from the engine compartment. the fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the flames. the vehicle was destroyed. the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer and faulkner chevrolet (298 stoke park rd, bethlehem, pa) were notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 118,000.
Side detection modules failed causing all gauges and dash items to quit working went out at 65 miles per hour parts weeks out
The rear side detection modules corroded due to bad placement on the vehicle. the module is directly behind the rear wheel without any shielding, so when the snow and salt from the winter came off the tire, it would land directly on the read side detection module causing corrosion. there are a ton of forums online such as here https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t54868_ds885696. chevy had this problem in 2014.5-2016 model but won't cover it even though they changed the modules in newer models to protect against the elements better. they know there is a problem but refuse to fix it for older models.
When the rear detection system controller get controller it can take down the vehicle communication buss which takes out all functionality of the instrument cluster. all gauges quit working as well as turn signals. the vehicle was in motion when this issue occurred.
