Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2014 Chevrolet Impala

My whole electrical system failed! my side detectors stopped working the forward collision failed all at the same time. i had smoke coming from the rear bumper. then i was getting all kinds of messages airbase, abs, traction i lost all the gauges no speedometer nothing the heat would come on and stuff off all by it self. before i could make it to my schedule appointment at the dealership to get checked out it died i could get it started anymore!! very unsafe when you are driving down the road! and very frustrated with gum because this is a very common issue of failing modules.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet impala. when the vehicle was started, the message center displayed "service vehicle, air bags, front lamp detection". the vehicle was taken to mcgrath chevrolet of dubuque (3255 university ave, dubuque, ia 52003) where it was diagnosed that the totally integrated power module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired two weeks ago, but the instrument panel began displaying the same message. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and was awaiting diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 98,755.

The side detection modules behind the rear tires are failing and causing all electronics to fail. this module goes bad and the traction control, abs, blindspot monitors, hvac, airbags, headlights and gauges all go out. this happens when when driving and is erratic in its behavior. it also makes the gas pedal hesitate and the car becomes a huge safety concern. it seems like it is a common problem due to poor placement.

My car was experiencing intermittent issues with the side blind spot monitoring system when my car's dash stopped working while traveling on the highway at 55 mph.. i had several service system errors` `for `side blind spot, front camera, tire pressure monitor etc but most concerning is that the directional would not function, the gas, speedometer, and the tachometer did not function. it was dusk and it appeared the automatic lighting control stopped working as well. i stopped safely and turned off my car and tried to restart the car and the push button start would not work. i was able to restart the car by putting the key fob in the factory pocket designed to start the car with a key fob with a low battery. i was able to get my car into the chevrolet dealership and they confirmed that the side blind spot modules were bad. they disconnected the modules and my car's dash function returned with just a warning to service the side blind spot system the dealership provided me a copy of a gm service bulletin #17-na-154 service side object detection message stating to replace both modules and the wiring harness need to be replaced for $1,638.91. i had already replaced one module 13 months earlier for $720. this failure mode is unacceptable leaving the car in a dangerous state without directionals, important gages like speedometer and fuel , and possibly no automatic lighting controls. the designed failure mode should be solely a service blind spot monitoring system leaving all other systems operational. currently i am told that all parts required to fix my car are unavailable. an advanced safety system that is dangerous when it fails is neither advanced or safe.

Side blind zone alert sensors have failed. these failed sensors are causing other electrical issues with the vehicle including air bag warning, instrument cluster intermittently not working, hvac controls not working and intermittent issues with starting the car. received a letter from gm extending coverage on the components to 6 years / 80,000 miles. vehicle has 142,000 miles but this is not a part that is a wear and tear item. gm has acknowledged this part has known issues but has limited the amount of time/mileage they will cover. safety issue due to instrument cluster being unresponsive and air bag potentially being disabled due to this.

Side detection module went out on both side after it was impacted by rain. i was told by the dealership that there is a new module however i would have to pay 1300.00 for it because it is sealed up better and less likely to receive water damage. i was also told that if not fixed that my car wont start and i would have other electrical issues. other people have said they their module have caught on fire. bad part chevrolet this needs to be recalled asap.

Side traffic detection system is inoperative. car has been at the dealership for 15 days as of this writing . we are being told the control modules to repair the defect is not available. we are elderly and cannot be without the use of a car.

Left rear side detection module and related wiring harness failed due to corrosion from exposure to water and weather elements during normal operation. placement of module inside the rear bumper caused moisture to accumulate within module and its related electrical connectors. during failure, while operating the vehicle, module sent erratic signals to obc causing partial shutdown of key electrical components including turn signals and instrument cluster. this module has a high, pre-mature failure rate, due to exposure to weather elements and road salt in northern states. chevrolet has difficulty keeping sufficient modules in stock at local dealers. order out time for subject components is 3-5 buisness days.

Every warning light on the dashboard became illuminated. lost power steering, car became sluggish, lacked speed, and power. braking control was limited. vehicle was drive able only in limp mode.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet impala. while driving 55 mph, the door locks kept locking and unlocking, the headlights went out, while driving, but the motor kept running. my wife made it home. the (for about 13 to 15 seconds) next morning she took it to work, on the way it stalled and would not start. consumer replaced the battery and still it would not start. but the vehicle would not start, an independent mechanic diagnosed that the blind side sensor was corroded and informed the contact to unplug the wiring harness from the blind side sensor. after unplugging the wiring harness, the vehicle was operable. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 55,000. *tt consumer stated gm has a bulletin out about corrosion in blind side sensor connection.*jb

I have filed a complaint last month about my 2014 chevy impala's side detection system, back up camera warnings, and forward collision systems all not working. today i am adding that while driving on the freeway in moderate rain doing 55mph, my stabilitrak light came on, abs light came on and i lost power steering. i did not lose control of my car, but it could have been bad. i called chevy as soon as i got home to file a complaint. i will be bringing it to the dealership tomorrow as i have read other complaints of this happening as well with the next thing to go is the car won't start. this situation is uncalled for in a vehicle with 45,000 miles at a price tag of $35,000, especially when the other issues started happening around d 38,000 miles. before today, when i started my car the service lights for front camera, park assist, and side detection all lit up. i did not take it to the dealership at that point because i heard it was expensive to fix now i have to as the safety of driving it is severely unstable.

Blind spot detection system began to fail, indicated by the side mirror indicators remaining on even after the car was shut off. dealer service center diagnostic test showed a faulty left side detection module. the problem progressed to the point where the instrument cluster would also fail - all instruments (speedometer, tachometer, etc.) would go dead, virtually all warning lights (traction control, abs, air bag, etc.) would go on, heating system (including blower) would go dead and turn signals and hazard light would be inoperative. all of this would happen while driving, whether in city traffic or at highway speeds. although the main operation of the vehicle has not yet been affected, there is no way to signal other drivers of a problem (no hazard light or turn signals) in the event of a larger failure. research of online customer forums shows that this problem is common with the latest generation (2014 and newer) impala. replacing the modules (and in some cases, also the wiring harness, which becomes corroded from the weather) seems to be a short term fix at best, as the design of the blind spot detection system exposes the sensors and wiring harness to road spray and rapid corrosion damage. furthermore, the blind spot detection system is connected to the instrument cluster in a manner that eventually renders them inoperative as well. this occurs randomly while driving.

While driving, several functions in the car will turn off. functions include heating/ cooling system, lights (dashboard lights), doors lock/ unlock and collision systems turns off. i've researched online and found several other customers have had the same issues ranging back to 2018. i've taking my car to a gm dealership and found that the sensor malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. i also found the sensor is on back order, which makes me believe this is a larger issue than i thought and some one needs to investigate further. driving along the highway and several security features start to turn off is dangerous.

While driving 70 mph, my side detection light remained on and stayed that way for a few days then completely stopped working. i was still under 36,000 but over 36 months. i made an appointment with the dealership but cancelled after talking with my friend who said the same thing happened to her denali and it cost her $3000 to fix it. a few months ago, i was driving around 50 mph, all the sensors started flashing on my dash-parking assist, brakes, side detection, front camera, etc. the gauges stopped working, the heater turned off as did the radio and felt like the power was way down. my blinkers weren't working either. i pulled over and turned the car off to try to reset it and it did not work. i finished my drive to work. when returning to my car, it did not replicate the same behavior as in the morning. now, my lane departure and front crash detection is not working. i have read many complaints about this issue in the 2014 chevy impala. i have always been, along with my husband, a gm product owner, gm has a plant 1 mile from us and they are talking about shutting it down. if this is not something gm looks into recalling, i may make the switch to a different car company. i have not yet taken it to the dealer but since more and more things keep breaking, i will be scheduling an appointment soon and letting gm know exactly how i feel about this. after spending $35,000 on a vehicle, it should not act like this.

Key is stuck in the ignition, can not start car or remove the key. battery is in good condition.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet impala lt. the contact stated that the side detection was malfunctioning. in addition, the fuel gauge, the speedometer, and the entire dash board failed to function. a dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. the failure mileage was 64,000.

My car won't work at all half of the time. mostly all electricity stops in the vehicle. the battery is 2 years old. sometimes electric will work and still won't start. i have been told there's some kind of electrical problem in my car and that there is a recall on that but for whatever reason it says that it's not for my vin number. i think my electrical has a problem it's been going on for well over a year now and i have to jump my car a lot.

Takata recall. stablink first came on my car when driving on a city road it was shaking did not want to pick up speed. had that fixed, then 9/2018 my side blinders started malfunctioning would come on and off. at times one would just stay on even when the car was off. received a letter 4/2019 about extended warranty on this but only good for 80,000 miles. my car has 98,000 miles. so here i am stuck to have to pay out of pocket.

Takata recall upon making a left turn, the abs light flashes on and off, the engine grinds, and the car hesitates in the middle of the turn. on occasion the dashboard will indicate a stabilitrak warning. the pavement is dry and there no sand present. it happens most frequently when making a left turn after a complete stop. there are multiple forums by other impala owners with the exact issue.

Instrument panel and gauges went out on my car .

While driving at any speed the instrument cluster will completely die out. blinkers not functioning. seems like some sort of short. also blind spot alert not working , forward facing camera, park assist.

Ac unit, it make a loud tapping noise the actuator is bad.

The lane departure modules get wet and are located behind the rear tire. as a result the electrical system is now failing i get messages that my airbag has deployed. the gas gauge drops to empty. the heat in the drivers seat does not work. now i have unexplained water in the bottom of my trunk with no sings how it got there. i honesty do not feel safe driving in it not know what will happen next and it my gauges tell me wrong information. ie no gas

Blind spot sensor went out and sensors on dash went to fritz

While driving my car on a main street moving along at approximately 50 mph the car completely shut down, electrical system and motor. the car would not recognize the fob. therefore, it would not restart. i put the car in park to restart. therefore, it was stuck in park and i could not move the car out of the lane of traffic. we tried to re-set the system by disconnecting the battery and tapping the brakes. this did not work. after my husband had brought me the second fob from home the car still would not recognize the fob. i walked away from the car to re-set the fob. the car still would not start. after being struck in friday afternoon traffic for an hour i called a tow truck. my husband tried the car again and it started. i drove the car home. the very next day i took it to the dealership and they could not find any problems. two weeks later the car began not recognizing the fob again. the dealership cannot find the problem. i do not want to see any others get hurt from this problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet impala. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle lost power and the stabilitrac and check engine warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to johnny londoff chevrolet (1375 dunn rd, florissant, mo 63031) where it was diagnosed that the side vehicle detection module failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 99,000. the vin was not available. **tr

When my side detection monitoring system failed a few months ago i took it to a local dealer. they responded telling me that, unfortunately, the design for this sensor module/harness is completely flawed. the sensors are located in the rear bumper, with plastic housing. there is no weather protection, even though these are directly behind the tires and are exposed to all weather - plus i live in il so we're talking rain, snow, salt, etc. it's two sensors and the harness. i couldn't afford the $1200 repair, so i figured i would just have to deal with the loss of the safety feature and ignore the warning light. last week, all of my warning lights came on - theft detection, front camera, airbag, stabilitrack, etc. my windshield wipers, turn signals, locks and headlights were all going haywire, and at one point while driving all of my gauges went to zero (no speed limit, rpm, gas gauge, anything) and my heat went out, turn signals stopped working and my headlights went out. immediately took it to another dealership hoping that maybe my battery (factory original)/wiring might be the cause. no such luck. as it turns out the side detection modules are now corrupting all sensors and electrical systems including my air bags! the dealership confirmed that the side detection modules had failed and were causing the chaos that is occurring with all of my other warning systems, and that my air bags no longer worked. my air bags don't work because of this, nevermind the extreme danger in having a system go haywire while i'm driving! i'm at nearly 100,000 miles so i'm well past any warranty that would cover this, but i have been reading forums and carcomplaints and it turns out that this is a really common issue. the cost of the diagnostics, cost of the repair, and anticipated costs of subsequent repairs is ridiculous considering it is a known design flaw.

The blind spot monitoring system failed on my vehicle at only 62,000 miles. the modules and harness are mounted under the rear bumper cover behind the wheels where moisture dirt and road salt enter causing corrosion and possible fire. the passenger side notification light stayed on for two days straight even when the car was off. it is not fused in the back of the vehicle only under the hood. these safety components should be mounted in the trunk per industry standard or sealed with proper weather resistant gaskets at the very least. the harness was corroded so badly it was jumping the connection and blowing fuses. the modules were visibly swollen from having moisture inside and rust forming. i contacted gm and they would not cover the repair. there should be a full recall if not a special coverage on this safety issue, it is very serious and very costly. my garage/house could have burned down or i could have been involved in a vehicle fire or accident due to loss of safety feature.

Right front head light low beam wire harness burns completely up. i also found the same situation on 3 other 2014 impala limited while looking for a replacement harness in two different salvage yards. i think this is significant.

Power steering was lost, stability light came on - was told this was due to erosion - had repaired at my cost - extended warranty would not cover as techician stated my fault although apparently this area is not visible during normal service. now the car twice has not started at all - all electronic sensors go dead. have taken to chevrolet dealer and they are unable to determined what is wrong. at least every other time i turn on car, the stability light or steering light come on, as well as the park assist light. i wait for about 10 minutes or so, try again, and they may or may not go off. 2 - the rear view mirror fell off during the first month i purchased, so it was under warranty and they "re-glued) it several times - finally it was recalled, and replaced about 15 months ago, now the mirror is doing the same thing again. 3- last is the pillar trim - it peeled and i had to have replaced at my cost - this should not have occurred. i fear i have a lemon, but more importantly i am not receiving the service necessary from chevrolet dealer - i have maintained the service on my car through the dealer, but so many unanswered concerns leaves me at risk for accident should car just stop!

The electrical system started to trip out. all the cars systems are blinking on and off.

While in motion, 70 mph with cruise and a/c on, all dash indicators shut off. cruise shut off as well as a/c. within a few seconds everything came back on...like i restarted the car. it did that several times in a row and each time every conceivable malfunction indicator illuminated on the dash (cluster panel). all happening while traveling down the highway at 70 mph. when the dash finally stopped this cycling, it left the car without any indicators (speed, tach, fuel, etc)...they were all on zero. fortunately, my garmin gps told me my speed. things remained that way until i stopped and shut off the car for about an hour. after restarting things were normal, except that my drivers side mirror collision avoidance indicator remained on. that indicator remains on 24/7...even when the car is off and parked overnight. i finally had to remove the fuse to get it to shut off. i leave the fuse out all the time now. the erratic dash board trouble had happened one other time previously. the mirror anti collision indicators had been malfunctioning for about three months prior to the erratic dash board incidents.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet impala. while driving at an unknown speed, the side detection warning indicator failed to operate and "side defect detection was off" illuminated. the contact also stated that the brakes made squeaking noises. the vehicle was towed to memorial highway chevrolet inc. (1 chevy drive, windber, pa 15963, 814-467-4596) where it was diagnosed that the harness connected to the side detection light needed to be replaced. the technician also stated that the brake pads needed to the replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and stated that the repair cost for the side detection light would be discounted. the failures were not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 28,400.

It would cut off and will not start with everything going blank thought it was the battery got a new one to replace the old one but still doing the same thing then the power steering light will come on sometimes when driving and we put in a new alternator thinking that it would solve the problem that didn't work still cuts off and won't start until 15-20 minutes had it checked by a mechanic and they couldn't find the problem scared to drive it do to having my kids in the car with me or going to work and it happens often then it should and only had the car for a year and a half and it have done it at least 5 times already

Driving in highway and the power steering wheel becomes extremely hard to turn move it completely electric shut off it was in dangerous situation vehicle running and and can't even move the steering wheel dashboard showed power steering need service. went to side of highway for few mins and went back to car and turn on work back to normal this will be the second time happen 1st was on the garage turn engine but steering wheel wont move at all verh hard...

While driving vehicle on interstate after work a burning smell was noticed followed by the stabilitrak, abs and service power steering lights came on, which made the vehicle very hard to turn. took vehicle to a chevrolet dealership believing it was a recall due to research online, service department stated the recall was fixed so they reprogrammed it. upon leaving the dealership, the brakes were grinding and all the lights came back on. took back to service and it's taken 3 days for them to try and figure out what is wrong. they've now decided it needs a new steering gear. i've researched other 2014 impalas having a recall on steering gears but this vehicle is not listed? how is that? i feel it needs to be recalled and fixed since there's been previous recalls regarding the whole electrical steering system, steering modules, and steering gears. the service department is saying it is going to be $2,800 to fix.

Having problems with my car when i do a turn in sterring wheel it makes a craking sound i hve changed brakes and other part in order to fix but did not solve the problem , also i braked hard once and the brakes locked and stayed that way i had to get vehicle towed because of this issue and this happen before new brakes, also when i turn all the light turn os as for brakes turning and other things.

Driving to work and all the emergency lights on my dashboard came on for no reason. the speedometer, tachometer, gas gauge, temperature gauge, radio and heater/ac controls and turn signals quit working. additional warning lights on dashboard we're stabiltrac, abs, air bag, tire monitor and brake light. previous to this we had problems with the blind spot monitor system not functioning. the car has been at the dealership now for about 5 weeks with no answer. they currently have 3 other impalas with the same problem. we live in a town of under 10,000 people so what are the odds that we are the only ones. sorry i do not have access to my vin number at this time.

Electrical failures. i experienced a failure in my stabilitrak, power steering and abs system on my 2014 chevy impala 2lt. this caused my vehicle to lose power steering, and abs brake control, which while driving on a rainy surface (in ma today 3/2 the weather was insane) was not reassuring. i have read numerous reports of other people experiencing this issue as well. chevy seems to have are recall open for power steering, but my vin supposedly is not impacted despite me having a power steering failure. many, many electrical issues with this car have been reported, and yet chevy does nothing to correct this clear safety concern. thankfully the power steering system only partially reduced itself, and didn't completely fail or else who knows what would have happened. very dangerous and disappointing that nothing is being done to protect people.

This car has been a lemon since we owned it. first the electrical system shut down (while we were driving at 70 mph), then the wheel barrings needed replacing at 60,000 miles, and now the solenoid has gone bad preventing the car from shifting.

Warning indicator lights began flashing on the dash and warning lights in the mirrors flashed randomly. gm dealer said it was a sensor that water had leaked in and corroded inside. said it was safe to drive and would take a week to get the part. the next day it shut off after about one minute when started with the remote start. when driving on the street more indicator warnings came on: airbag, traction control, parking brake, etc.; the a/c came on by itself; the headlights, heater, and turn signals stopped working. stopped the car and shut it off for about an hour. after starting it with the key and running it for about 3 minutes, it shut itself off. once started again, would only move about a foot and then stopped sharply, like the brakes had been slammed on. did this several times. parked it again and had it towed to the dealer. they still say it's the sensor problem and will be $1200 to fix. they did not investigate the issue further although it is clearly a safety problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet impala. while driving, all the warning indicators illuminated, the speedometer failed, and all the functions of the air conditioning unit failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (sarchione chevrolet, 1572 oh-44, randolph, oh 44265) where it was diagnosed that the obj sensors and wiring harness failed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and a claim was filed. the failure mileage was 49,700. *tt *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the stabilitrak was faulty and the vehicle would only shift into drive. also, the radio and heat failed to operate properly. when the vehicle was restarted, it reset itself; however, the stabilitrak indicator would not illuminate. all the other warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was 52,000.

I've had an issue with my 2014 chevy impala ltz getting locked up when turning the steering wheel. this started a few months ago, i took it to the dealership but they were unable to recreate the problem. the first incident occured 09/2017, i was driving on the highway going 60 mph, upon switching lanes it felt like the steering wheel jammed and locked for a second and the electrical power went out on the radio and dash. the alerts then said "power steering drive with care' & "front camera' or something to that effect. this has happened various times since on city streets, another message i've seen has said something about stabilitrak. the most recent episode occured on 12/25/2017. i was driving on a city street and turned right and the steering wheel jammed and the radio went out and the same messages came up, i took a video this time so that the dealership can see what the issue is. i found that there is a recall on other 2014 chevy impalas for similar issues with power steering but when searching under my vin number there is no recall on my car but i feel as though this is a mistake and my car should be recalled for this issue. this is a big safety issue and a big concern to me as i have two small children and almost crashed while on the freeway due to this issue. luckily the other times this has occured i was on city streets not driving at a high speed but regardless it is still a safety hazard.

Object sensors. due too rain snow. one winter, they both went out . they are not protected from water.

I experienced loss of power steering while turning through an intersection. took the vehicle to a dealership to get a diagnosis. the results were that the there was a loss of communication to bcm.

When driving at low speeds or cornering at steep angles the traction control activates and will almost stop the vehicle. previously had issue repaired under warranty and they replaced a wiring harness. issue occurred again. a dealer service tech informed me that there is an issue with water getting in the harnesses but there is no recall only a technical service bulletin. where it is a known issue that effects the traction control and abs i feel this being a know issue should be addressed though a recall as the repair is expensive and a safety concern.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the side blind zone alert message displayed on the instrument cluster. the contact received an extended warranty #n172097060 (side blind zone alert module water intrusion) however the vehicle exceeded the 80,000 mile time limit. the contact was concerned that the passenger presence detection system would fail and that the air bag would not deploy in the event of a crash. the vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. the manufacturer was notified and provided no assistance. the failure mileage was unknown.

Blind side motion detector monitoring system malfunctioned. this was after headlight malfunction so we thought it was related to headlight repair. dealer said no. car was in motion when warning light came on. classic chevrolet/gm refused to cover under manufacturer's warranty even though it's under 36,000 miles. they said it was because we were 2 months after warranty. contacted chevrolet/gm hoping for partial coverage to no avail. system should not have failed that soon. neighbor said his system failed also. it was still under warranty so that means his didn't even make it past 36 months.
