The ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
2008 Volkswagen Passat

My vehicle (2008 vw passat) started having acceleration issues and would only go up to 40 mph as well as also having a rough start up when turning my car on. i proceeded to take it into the dealership to have this looked at and at first they claimed that i needed a new high pressure fuel pump which would cost me around $700. later in the day, i received a call back telling me that my intake camshaft was broken and that they could not make the repair without replacing this as well. now my total was up to $2000. after doing some research and calling around to compare prices, i talked to a repairman that had to replace his camshaft in the same year vw car because of similar issues. i found that my model 2008 vw passat was built with a faulty intake camshaft revision b which was found to be abrasive and causing friction with the fuel pump. since 2008 vw found a sneaky way to replace this with a revision a camshaft and not recall the previous part, which has now, over time caused my $2,000 problem and could ...

The ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
2015 Volkswagen Passat

2015 volkswagen passat erratic shifting and brakes either too soft and won't stop quickly or they lock up and i can't move the vehicle. the problems are mostly in town driving, but once occurred in highway driving going up a hill while passing. in that incident the tachometer went from 2 to 5 as the car lurched forward. while at a stop light, the engine revved up as if i were pressing the accelerator, although i was not. after the camshaft was replaced, per the recall, the vehicle performed even more poorly than before. the vehicle began shaking violently. over the next week, the lurched at two different stops signs; the engine revved up to 5,000 rpm's without the accelerator pedal being pressed; the brake pedal locked up not allowing the vehicle to reverse; and several times, it took an extra amount of time and distance to stop the vehicle.

The ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

I was driving the car when the engine failed without any warning and without any dashboard instruments indicating impending failure. me and my co-passenger are lucky to be alive today. further we are lucky we didn't crash into a public bus pulling in at the bus stop as we veered to the right to brake and park the vehicle. this car has been meticulously maintained at the dealership since its acquisition and at the 65,000 service it was given an excellent bill of health. when the car was towed to the dealership for repairs it was diagnosed as unusual engine failure.

The ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
2012 Volkswagen Passat

On 8 to 10 occasions over the last two years i have lost power, i.e. the engine was running, but acted as though it were in neutral with high rpm?s. sometimes it is intermittent and recovers power but on three occasions on a major interstate highways it has lost all power and i had to coast to the shoulder. turning off the engine and it starts normally with full power. the dealer checked the engine codes and only found engine lost communication with transmission and said the vw did not have any notices on the problem. i have also reported this to vw and they say it has not been an issue. quick google searches show something different with lots of vw tdi engines showing similar problems. loss of power in 65 mph traffic is very dangerous and inexcusable. vw should be looking more closely at this problem.

The check engine light came on and i had codes read. the code was p205c and this indicates the emissions adblue heater and sensor had a problem. the unit (heater and sensor) in the adblue tank is a non serviceable unit and must be replaced. over $750.00 to replace. all the efficiency of tdi just went up in smoke. happened at 4,000 miles past warranty and dealer had no help even though a lot of tdi's are having identical problems. seems to be a defect in design, many many tdi's are having the same problem. *tr

The ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
2006 Volkswagen Passat

Driving 65 on the freeway in heavy rain, car made horrible sound and lost acceleration power. almost involved in accident , however managed to pull to shoulder when the car then filled with a gas smell. called for assistance and was towed 100 miles back to my mechanic. upon inspection, mechanic discovered that the catalytic converter disconnected at the turbo flange. he also stated that he had fixed the exact same problem in my exact vehicle make/model the week prior. contacted vw to see if this was covered under the 80k miles emissions warranty, only to discover that in california the warranty only goes to 70k miles. the entire catalytic converter was replaced to the tune of $1,150. the mechanic stated that the replacement catalytic converter from vw was much more sturdy than the original installed , indicating that vw is aware of the issue. additionally, he stated it was odd that a car dealership stocks that part as it is not too common to replace the catalytic converter under 100k miles. *tr
