While driving at highway speed the vehicle suffered a sudden and catastrophic failure of the high pressure fuel pump. the vehicle has only 43k on it and was just purchased after receiving the tdi update 3k miles ago. the fuel pump failure occurred around 60-70 mph on the highway and lead to the vehicle losing all power and barely making it to the shoulder of the road. i have now learned that this failure has completely destroyed my fuel system and is not covered by vw even thoughthey are using the same part that they are covering for the 2010-2013 model years they offered an extended warranty on. not only is this incredibly unsafe, as a consumer this type of unpredictable and common failure is unacceptable.
Timing chain decided to give up as i was driving on a major highway. now i'm stuck having to potentially replace the engine, a 5k bill. just purchased the car last year and still making payment on it. never had any indication or illumination on the dashboard of warning for the engine failure
This vehicle has experienced cooling system issues since 49000 miles. the car now has 122,500 miles. the heater core has been replaced 5 times, 2 radiators, egr cooler, intercooler, oil cooler, transmission cooler. these are all impacted with some sort of sludge. vw had issued an extended warranty on the heater core addressed by tsb 80-15-04. after numerous conversation with vw and the dealer service department the parts other then the heater core that is covered under the tsb have been replaced at no cost to me except the inconvenience of the time involved to resolve these issues. vw is claiming that these vehicles do not have an issue other than what the tsb addresses. i have since traded the car in on a 2015 passat tdi that now appears to be experiencing the same issues. there isn't a tsb or extended warranty for the cooling system/heater on this model. i believe this to be a safety issue, not having the proper heating system could impair visibility in the winter.
Vehicle engine light comes and goes way. the vehicle jerks/shakes when waiting the red signals and looses power and had to stop the vehicle and start the vehicle.i have done all the oil according to the recommended milage by the dealer. and also it looses power when taking turns, in that case need to turn off the vehicle and start again. this happens when vehicle waits the red signal and move/shakes heavily and had to put the vehicle in park and stop it. though vehicle is 5 year and ran barely 55k and started showing symptoms as mentioned as above.i strongly believe this something to do with the manufacturing. below is the report from the dealer. ------------------- cam faults, misfires. scanned vehicle and found cam fault p034100, all cylinder misfires faults. traced fault to timing chain tensioner failure. ------------------------ i have also attached the invoice and diagnoses results about the issue. and also found in internet related to the same issue that they have seen other vw vehicles. the issue seems to be similar, however vw/vw dealer seems not accepting and doing repair for free. https://medium.com/@autobahnaudivw/volkswagen-audi-timing-chain-settlement-recall-repair-reimbursement-information-c4abc4f5b359
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 volkswagen passat. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to prestige volkswagen of turnersville located at 4271 e black horse pike, turnersville, nj 08012 (856) 629-9200, for an unknown manufacturer recall (nhtsa number unknown). while the vehicle was at the dealer, the contact was informed of two additional unknown open recalls on the vehicle. while driving from the dealer back to the residence the electronic power control (epc) warning light illuminated. the same dealer was contacted by phone and the contact was informed to have the vehicle taken back to the dealer to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the oil level in the vehicle was low. the contact disputed that the oil level was low and instead stated that epc warning light failure was due to a throttle body failure. the vehicle was not repaired. after two days, the epc warning light again became illuminated. the vehicle was again taken back to the same dealer and remained in the custody of the dealer for two weeks. the contact was informed that there would be a $600 charge to place an oil level monitor on the vehicle however due to the dispute between the contact and the dealer, the contact was informed by the manufacturer to have the vehicle taken to another authorized dealer. the vehicle was then taken to cherry hill volkswagen located at 2261 nj-70, cherry hill, nj 08002, (888) 486-1840 for a second diagnostic test to be performed. the diagnostic test was performed and an undisclosed part was replaced however, the failure recurred. the epc warning light also recurred. the vehicle was taken back to cherry hills volkswagen and the contact was provided an estimate of $800 to repair the vehicle however, it was stated that the repair may not fix the vehicle. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but there was no additional assistance provided. the failure mileage was unknown.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 volkswagen passat. while driving, the vehicle started to jerk, the rpms decreased, and the vehicle decelerated. also, the check engine, epc, and traction control warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to ourisman volkswagen of waldorf (located at 2282 crain hwy, waldorf, md 20601, (301) 843-1234) where it was diagnosed that the connection from the fuel pump detached and the fuel pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failures recurred. the vehicle was not taken back to the dealer and was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 67,000.
While driving my vehicle it stopped. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic and i was told that my timing chain was broken. i found it ironic that there was a recall on other models but not mine.
Transmission leak coolant leak engine light and brakes radiator leak
The heater core in my 2014 volkswagen passat tdi has failed and been replaced four times within the last 2 years. there is/was an extended warranty related to the heater core failure but there has not yet been a recall despite an obvious defect with the heater cores. failure 1, 11/28/2016- reported as insufficient heat, primarily passenger side - warranty covered failure 2, 06/30/2017- identified by check engine light alert- warranty covered failure 3, 0/7/10/2017- identified by check engine light alert, warranty covered failure 4, 11/28/2017- reported as insufficient heat- primarily on passenger side- originally reported on 10/26/2018- vw declined to cover under warranty. without a properly functioning heater core, the windshield defroster will not have heat. in this situation, the driver will have difficulty maintaining a clear windshield, which will create a hazardous situation. the lack of heat in the vehicle can also be unsafe in some climates.
We took the car in for maintenance to the dealership a month ago. it was a little loud which was evident. the dealers mechanic said the car was fine. a few weeks ago the check engine light came on (steady not blinking). we took it into the dealership and found out that the timing tensioner (apparently a known vehicle issue according to the mechanic), and that it had damaged the engine to the point it needed to be replaced. it has a 1.8t, and i am curious exactly how prevalent this problem is.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 volkswagen passat. on several occasions, while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and it would operate as intended. the contact stated that the failure recurred six times. the vehicle was taken to fox volkswagen of rochester hills (773 s rochester rd, rochester hills, mi 48307, (248) 656-0400) to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code or duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Starting getting timing code errors. took it to the dealer and they said the timing chain is bad and will cost nearly $4000 to replace. looked online and this is a common occurence with the make and model of this car. want to make sure they don't get away with this. they should be recalling this and making the repairs.
Please be advised that the matter regarding timing chain and tensioner system has been resolved by vw of america to my satisfaction and no further action is necessary . thank you very much
The motor kept making noise didn't know what it was went to volkswagen of memphis the motor had to be replaced, 2 months later smelled gas coming from car the fuel injector had to be replaced, 2 months after that the overheat indicator was on couldn't drive the car the water pump went out was out of several thousands of dollars not happy with the car at all but almost done paying on it will not buy another.
2014 vw passat tdi se 2.0l manual my vehicle has 62,583 mi. on it. i was driving on the highway when the diesel "glow plug" light began flashing on the dashboard and i lost all engine power. i was fortunate to be able to reach the roadside safely and i was able to bring the car to a halt on the roadside. trying to start the vehicle however was not possible, the "glow plug" light continued to flash and the vehicle would not start. vw roadside assistance was called and the vehicle was towed to the nearest vw dealership where i have was given the error code information below and told my turbo and engine need to be replaced but that they are outside of my 5yr/60,000 mi warranty. p0671-cylinder #1 glow plug circuit active/static p0674- cylinder #4 glow plug circuit active/static p2196- o2 sensor signal stuck rich bank 1 sensor 1 active/static p0299- turbo/super charger under boost active/static p13e0-sensor for internal pressire of cylinder #1 malfunction active/static p13d7-sensor for internal pressure of cylinder #4 electrical error active/static p13e1-sensor for internal pressure of cylinder #2 malfunction active/static p13e2- sensor for internal pressure of cylinder #3 malfunction active/static p1007- torque difference cylinder #4 limit value exceeded active/static
I was driving down the interstate 5 in the la area and without warning, my car started jerking and lost power. i was stuck on the fast lane without being able to restart my car in friday afternoon rush hour traffic. i had my car towed to a vw dealership and the diagnosis came back as metal in the fuel system. i was told this was due to the high pressure fuel pump (hpfp) failing. what was most disturbing was when i was informed that to fix this problem, they would have to replace the entire fuel system, costing me $7,500. my car is 3 years old and has 75k miles so i was blown away! i called numerous mechanics and all told me they've seen similar problems on vw and audi vehicles. i went online to do some research and found a number of forums with vw customers with identical problems. all complain about the hpfp failing and then resulting in metal in the fuel system, causing an expensive replacement of the fuel system. i also read that vw has extended the warranty of the hpfp on earlier models due to similar problems. it is clear that vw has still not fixed this problem on its newer models and needs to extend the warranty or issue a recall. they are selling faulty cars that are dangerous to drive and require extremely expensive fixes. please look into this. here is the forum with the number of similar issues from other vw customers: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/vehiclecomplaint/?_ga=1.28961404.1963426351.1491430895
My car has oil leak. i went to puente hills volkswagen four time. after replace twice rear seal and oil separator. the engine is still leak. i went to local mechanic to do inspect. the leaking is just from big leak to small leak. i did take a picture and email to vw usa. they could not do anything. even with warranty repair, the car could not fix.
My turbo failed in the car with no warning while on the highway. the glowplug light started blanking and the check engine light came on.
On 10-20-16 at 6:00pm, vehicle engine stumbled and stalled without warning in middle of 6 lane freeway at rush hour. travel speed at time of stall 40mph, adjacent exit lane was moving at 65 mph plus. had to coast through traffic to emergency lane. would not restart. towed to dealer. diagnosed as catastrophic high pressure fuel pump failure. fuel diagnosis acceptable. despite earlier models having extended warranty my vin # apparently is not included (manufactured 8-2013, engine manufacture date unknown to me). odometer reading 60,846 miles, powertrain warranty 60,000 miles. serviced at dealer on 10-12-16 at 59,833 miles including fuel filter. vwoa denied any warranty claim, later agreed to 50% of cost. i paid $2,843.16 all services performed, fueled at local station all receipts kept. failed pump part number03l-130-755-ab. replaced with p/n 03l-130-851-hx. *tr
Just under 80,000 miles on car. tdi diesel engine. high pressure diesel pump failed without warning. engine stalled immediately. luckily i was not in heavy trafic at the time and was able to coast to shoulder of road. i was just turning right onto 4 lane divided road from bussines parking lot. engine stalled mid turn.
I just recently purchased this 2014 vw passat from nissan and they did not reveal all the recalls on this vehicle! i'm really dissatisfied with the nissan dealership as i feel this is being deceitful, not to mention very unsafe for me and my family. dishonest!!!!! to say the least!
The car lost power while driving on a country road at about 45 miles per hour. the dealer diagnosed the problem as a blown turbocharger. this occurred at 32,000 miles. now, the car has lost power again while driving at about 30 miles an hour going up a hill. i believe it is a blown turbocharger. this occurred at 64,000 miles. the details below on date and miles are related to the second incident.
Exactly 28 days after first breakdown had another exactly the same. see your previous report #10818720. driving to work on highway 2014 vw passat engine lights came on. car can not go over 30mph & decreasing speed. tow truck called, mechanic & dealership, rental car, & private insurance all again. dealership stated chewed wires from squirrels & does not cover under warranty. 1st time $2,700. 2nd time $700. learned of soy-based coating on wires. local farmers & government grass cutter workers have chewed wires on their tractors also. pleae investigate. please recall. please help.
One day at about 25,000 miles i noticed that the passenger side vents were not receiving any hot air to warm the car. there was plenty of heat coming out of the drivers side, but only cold air coming from the passenger side. took it into the dealership for diagnosis and they said that the heater core is clogged. so there is some type of contaminate in the cooling system effecting the heater core. they are replacing the heater core under warranty, bu i hope it doesn't affect the rest of the cooling system.
Heater core clogging. heater core has been replaced 3 times since i bought the car to years ago. coolant has been discolored and cloudy. first replacement was in january of 2015. it has been replaced twice in january 2016.
2014 volkswagen passat diesel. ownership 1/1/2 yrs. mileage 14,000. driving to work could not go over 30mph. dashboard light came on showing emission control monitor & pre glow. thought it was due to colder weather. had to be towed & at dealership now for repair. complete breakdown. vw mechanic stating there is major damage due to a rodent or squirell problem. stated the wiring is chewed up even in the headlights. i am the only car owner in the parish and in the neighborhood with this problem?? have warranty but vw said this is not covered under warranty. had to get rental car. waiting for state farm insurance adjuster to go to dealership. help! please send a nhtsa rep to investigate and look at vehicle.

Driving on busy city street at about 45 mph when engine shut off completely. coasted to left hand turn lane where i tried to start vehicle again, but it would crank once then die. vehicle would repeat trying start with turning over ignition. after a number of attempts and turning everything off, vehicle finally restarted. too to vw and awaiting response. previous week, stopped at light in d, but transmission would did not initially engage. after more than a few seconds transmission engaged. when decelerating, generally very rough as you get close to stopping. *tr
Miles on car at failure: 21,755 corrective actions from dealership: replaced turbo, gaskets, reflash, check particulate filter and replace. outside air temps at failure:20s 30s failure warning signs, if any: turbo began making horrible whining sound on sunday afternoon march 8, 2015. called vw 3/9/15 and took to dealer 3/10/15 for emergency appointment prior to 3/12/15 first available appointment. no warning lights or indicators even after 3 days of driving with horrible noise. warning lights on dash/mfi: no lights or indicators problems since replacement: now at 25,766 miles. checked oil cap to change oil every 5k instead of 10k now that out of service contract and noticed particles around oil cap. got magnet and found that many were magnetic. i have videos of the turbo whining before replacement and the magnetic particles identified last evening. oil was not changed as part of turbo replacement nor were the high pressure lines to/from turbo. prior oil change at 19,146 for 20k service. no particles around or in oil cap after that service. turbo occasionally makes a distant whining noise upon startup but stops within a couple of seconds. did the dealership perform all maintenance and on schedule: yes (2 different dealers for maintenance. one did 10k and turbo, the other did the 20k). if not dealership, what oil was used/miles on oil: oil was not changed as part of the turbo failure/replacement. oil lines were not replaced either. 5w40 was used for 20k service at vw dealer prior to turbo failure. do you interrupt dpf regenerators: try not to as most times i can smell the regen and notice the higher rpms and will continue driving. have interrupted a couple that could not be avoided due to paying to park in a garage for work.
My daughters 2014 vw passat tdi failed on friday, 2/27/2015. her car lost power and was making whirling and clanking noises. she of course pulled over and turned the vehicle off right away. there was no warning light of any kind, even when i turned it on briefly to see what was happening. after a very brief start, i could see what she was talking about along with a very strong oil burning smell. there was no oil leaking from the car anywhere, but i did notice when i pulled the oil dip stick that there was no oil. it apparently had burned it up. we had the car towed directly to don beyer vw and went the next day (she broke down late evening). we asked the service center if this was a common issue and they said no. however, when we explained what happened, they immediately said it sounded like the turbo failed. interesting that i am finding on the internet many other individuals with the same issue so i don't quite trust that was the case. we were also informed by them that they are upgrading the turbo in these vehicles as well as extending the warranty to 120,000 miles??? if this is not a common issue, why would vw do this... *tr
