Since i bought the car i've always had issues with the oil consumption. i was told it was 'normal' to loose up to 8 courts of oil in-between my oil changes. the dealership told me this!! the car has been very well taken care of, i get oil changes every couple thousand miles instead of every 10,000 like vw recommends. if i did this my engine would quiet literally blow up. i've been told repeatedly by multiple foreign repair shops (non vw dealership) that this is a common issue with this motor but for whatever reason the 2013 cc models were not recalled. by the sounds of it's a repair that vw refuses to acknowledge or fix. i'm upside down on the loan & have been told i basically need a whole new engine. now, every time i refuel i have to add a quart of oil otherwise my check engine light comes on or i receive a 'check oil pressure. engine off' message. i might be a female but i'm not that stupid to know that this isn't normal! this is a constant issue!
Check engine light and epc light turned on. sometimes my car will not start, but then other time it with start with one turn. also while i am driving, it looses power sometimes. one time the car shut off completely while i was in drive. i took it to the mechanic and he did a diagnostic computer code check. the code was reading camshaft position sensor malfunction. the mechanic replaced the sensor but noticed that the metal on the sensor is shearing significantly.
Takata inflators i got into a vehicle collision with another vehicle and suffered a concussion due to my airbags failing to deploy in my vehicle.
While driving on the beltway at 60 miles an hour, the car suddenly lost all electrical power and the engine shut down. i was not able to steer or brake or accelerate. i coasted to the side of the highway, put the car in park and restarted it and drove it home without incident. dealer could not find an error code. twice since then, the electrical and system have shut down without warning while the car was running while idling at a traffic light.
After you guys installed the new emission program my car now has problems with the electrical system and the sensor for the oil light. it has been doing this since april 8 and before that we never had this problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 volkswagen passat. the contact stated that the engine was faulty and the vehicle could shut off at any moment. also, the check engine indicator was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to shearer volkswagen (2287 berlin state hwy, barre, vt 05641) where it was diagnosed and repaired. the diagnosis information was not provided. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and no assistance was provided. the failure mileage was 103,000.
My car is a 2013 passat purchased by me in 2014, i have always taken my car to be serviced with all required service maintenances since purchase date (services done all at volkswagen dealerships). the next service was not due. i have this all documented by the dealerships. my car has approx. 94,000 miles on it. the check engine light started to come on intermittently. today volkswagen dealer (following diagnostic testing) told me the head gasket needs to be replaced but that this is a risky repair as the primary problem is the engine. the volkswagen dealership is telling me the engine needs to be replaced. the volkswagen dealer is telling me today that this is not a usual problem with this vehicle. i called volkswagen to ask for financial assistance or buy back plan for this and was told there is nothing that can be done.
My 2013 vw passat 3.6 sel lacks a elec stability control switch on the vehicle. as a result, the traction is terrible on this vehicle in rain, snow, and sleet. the engine has a knocking noise, even though i service the vehicle at vw every 10,000 miles as required in the owner's manual. this vehicle has major electrical problems, such as the seat belt light illuminating, and i lose tension in my driver seat belt. that is a huge safety flaw for this $40,000 vehicle.
My 2013 vw passat 3.6 sel major issues with the transmission, burning excessive engine oil, and substandard suspension. the transmission slips in 3rd gear, and struggles to search for a gear. vw engineered my passat for castrol oil 5w40 synthetic oil, 6-7 quarts every oil change (every 10,000 miles). i have to add 3 quarts of oil every 4,000 miles. this is a clear indication the oil weight is insufficient for this vehicle, engineering issues with the oil pump, and/or valve seals. the passat does not handle well, and feels unsafe in rain, snow, and sleet, because there is no traction control button on the instrument panel. it's quite obvious that the executives at volkswagen ag are not interested in safety and quality. they are only interested in sacrificing a dollar for safety and quality.
Volkswagen of america engineered less-than-safe headlamps on my 2013 vw passat 3.6 sel. my headlamps are substandard, and do not shine bright a night as the xenon headlamps on the competitors of volkswagen. for a $40,000 vehicle, it's an expectation to have xenon headlamps, which are much safer than the existing headlamps on the vw passat. volkswagen has been installing 280 hp v6 engines in its passat since the 2006 model while their competitors have been installing 330hp and up in their v6 models. the vw passat should have at least 350hp/380 torque with all wheel drive, with a longitudinal engine. it's quite obvious that the executives at volkswagen of america, and volkswagen ag are interested in sacrificing quality and safety to save a dollar.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 volkswagen passat. while driving various high speeds in cold climates, the engine failed. the contact stated that there was an excessive vibration in the engine compartment when accelerating. volkswagen of ocala (5135 sw college rd, ocala, florida 34474, (352) 387-1330) was made aware of the failure and reprogrammed the engine in october of 2017. after the engine was reprogrammed, several other failures occurred. the coolant lines failed and were replaced and an oil leak developed in the main seal in the front of the vehicle. initially, the dealer could not duplicate the failures, but later replaced the faulty main seal. also, the water pump was faulty and needed to be replaced. as a result, the timing belt was replaced on the vehicle. furthermore, the high pressure fuel lines fractured and fuel entered into the fuel filter of the vehicle. the contact stated that fuel spilled onto the highway while driving due to a coolant leak from the oil cooler. the contact stated that the fitting on the fuel line related to the fuel line assembly was also replaced. lastly, while driving 80 mph, the check engine indicator illuminated without warning. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and provided case number: 181530876. the failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
Pulling out of driveway epc light comes on. total loss of power and engine speed set to 1800rpm in "safe mode" no one knows exactly what is wrong. mechanics cannot ttell me what is wrong. dealership vw has no idea and want to start replacing items in descriminately and i don't have that kind of money to throw around and besides. the people that built the car can't figure it out. this is a huge safety issue. computer faults and shuts down the power at hiway speeds and sometimes car stalls out. this is very dangerous and happening to hundreds maybe thousands of people i'm reading online and talking with other owners.
Car would make whirling sounds intermittently, difficulty going up hill, rough idle sometimes, car shut off while driving, car shut off while idling at a light, car had difficulty starting or would start then shake and let out loud and hard bursts of gas from exhaust and cut off, car will start up then lose power, sometimes will start back up. one time it took 3 tries and would not start. had at vw dealer multiple times since jam 2017 till now. happened again today after i got gas, shut off then took a while to gain power and epc and check engine light were on then disappeared. every other time the wngine light would disappear. the last time in march they had the car 10 or so day. two days later it idled rough. they were busy to check the car now this. jan 2017 check engine light they said fault p0106/p2188- did software update and advises faults may come back. feb 2017 engine light they said same faults and manifold pressure sensor failed. got replaced. march 2017 car stalled in traffic multiple times. they cleaned throttle body. march 2017 in idle car shaking and shut off rpms up and down replaced camshaft position sensor. may 2017 shut off in traffic- replaced n80 valve. 05/05/18 got spark plugs changed. march 7 car shut off three times after getting gas. they had it till march 19 said charcoal canister need replacing then upon pick up said n205 valve cam adjuster solenoid clicking loudly. march 29 noticed hearing whirling sounds and rough idle. called ealer no one available over weekend. busy. today 04/08 car shut off after 2nd gas fill up. started back slowly epc and engine light steady then it gained power and lights off. vw corporare advised in 2017 i am out of warranty and have high mileage. opened claim again today they said same thing but will see if the corporate would be willing to offer assistance. all work has been done via vw dealers
Engine light pops up and epc code. hard to pick up speed
Stalling, sputtering erratically. it sputters, bumps and may stall. when it stalls it is necessary to turn ignition completely off and start again in park.
Car overheated on drive home. once engine cooled i inspected the coolant and noticed that it was orange or rust colored and milky/not clear. it should be pink and clear. after reading about vw's heater core warranty extension on certain years and vin's i determined to have the same issues listed. my heater core was not fully blocked but i did have differences in temperatures from the drivers side and passengers side. vw is not replacing my heater core under warranty because my vin wasn't listed as having a problem. but this problem should be expanded to cover more vin's as the problem is still out there. my car has 100,600 miles on it and there is not a flush or coolant change scheduled for the tdi's.
I own a 2013 vw passat diesel which has a bad nitrogen oxide sensor at 47,300 miles. i have learned that this part is not covered under emissions warranty and many other vw car owners have experienced failures with this same sensor. with all the current existing diesel emission problems and fines, you would think that this critical sensor would be part of the emissions warranty. my local vw dealer and the vw corporation wants me to pay over $800 to fix a critical emission problem which is an ongoing issue with many vw owners. this is a defective part for which they have been fined in the past (2005). all vehicles with this defective nitrogen oxide sensor are increasing the world pollution. why is this sensor not part of a recall, not part of an extended emissions warranty, and why am i and many other owners stuck paying for defective parts? under the emissions settlement program, volkswagen has agreed to "promote zero emissions vehicle technology". so, why is there not a recall or warranty on the nitrogen oxide sensor?
2013 vw passat 89000 miles fuel pump broke sending metal through system $6500.00 to fix. i see this happens a lot on internet. this is covered for veh up to 2012. if this is still happening why don't they cover 2013 or change fuel pumps. being a 100% disabled vet. i don't have the $6500.00 to fix it. surely you have heard of this before. driving on city street stopped at stop sign. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 volkswagen passat. while driving, the contact smelled smoke inside the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 50,000.
Driving down the expressway at 70mph, when suddenly the vehicle lost power and turned off. the car stopped functioning. it was a dangerous situation. had to suddenly pulled over on a very busy highway. when the vehicle came to a stop, i tried to restart the vehicle with no success. car was towed to the dealership. i was informed that it was a failure of the high pressure fuel pump (hpfp). was told the entire fuel system would have to be replaced. approximate cost to repair: $5826.09. i know they extended the warranty on the hpfp for the 2012 passat. what about the 2013?
Vw passat tdi 2013: currently has a tad under 64,000 miles. driving the car and the car makes awful noise and shuts off. the car gets towed to the vw dealership and i am informed that it is the high pressure fuel pump and the repair is between $5000-$6000. the dealership checked the fuel and verified that i had appropriate diesel in the car and mentioned that vw has had problems with the diesel fuel "sold in the us" and it is causing the problem. the car is just over the 60,000 mile warranty and it is one of the cars in the buyback settlement. when i inquired, they said my buyback fee would be significantly reduced if i do not pay for the repair as they will take it out of the settlement offer. investigating a bit further, this is a problem that they had with previous year models, and is also something that appears to be happening with other owners of 2013 tdi's. i am left with a car that does not work to due manufacture defect. i am left with a car that they claim they will pay less for at the buyback because the car is not running, even though it is due to their defect. in short, i have a car that does not work, that is part of a major us government lawsuit settlement, and that requires $6,000 to repair because a part they placed on the car sent metal shards through the fuel system. as a consumer, i am left helpless. i bought a car believing the company to be honest, they were not. now they will not even stand behind their faulty manufacturing defects.
Turbo charger failed in 2013 tdi passat 2nd time. occured while driving down a 45 mph road. did not lose full power but did lose ability to maintain speed and glow plug light began flashing. first one failed and replaced at 79,000 miles and 2nd turbo failing at 145,000 miles roughly 60,000 miles on this turbo. these are flawed parts that are very expensive and should work for the life of the vehicle. no support from vw for a part that is a major safety issue.
Cel came on, code for for failing reductant level sensor p203b implausable signal. car has 66,000 miles, cared for to the letter. vw wants over a $1000.00 to repair. this is an extreamly common failure not possible ofr the owner to induce...
High-pressure fuel pump failure, car stopped working while driving on freeway in another state. car has not run in over a year due to this problem and the cost to fix it. they model your new were with the exact same engine and part is covered under warranty but this car is not at a 71,250 miles
Ad blue reductant tank failed. thus making the emissions system not work properly. part # 561-198-970-a is defective. the same failure occurred on my 2012 passat within less than a month. this is a known defect from vw. here is a link to a thread on the extent of these failures. http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=438268

Turbo failed in 2013 vw passat tdi
I am having problems starting my 2013 vw passsat. at first i thought it was the cold in the morning but the starting problem happens randomly thoughout the day. for example when i stop at the gas station, after putting gas when i go to start the car i have to crank it 3,4,5 time before it starts. sometimes i need to pump the gas. the second problem is the "engine" light coming on. the first time this happened i went to the vw dealer and they said maybe it was an emissions problem and that they will take a look at it when i bring it in for my next oil change. i brought the car in for the oil change. they reset the engine light so it wasn't showing. the guy also said it was probably not closing the gas cap tight enough. after this initial reset i drove around for a few weeks then the 'engine light came back on. it was reset a second time, but, the light has come back on again. i will be taking it back to my dealer again for a 3rd time. the starting problem is very worrying. i have about 75,000 miles on the passat. obviously the vehicle is stationary when i begin to start it; but the "engine" light comes on whenever, i just notice that it is on, so i would say it comes on when i am driving or when the car is running.
The turbocharger blew up while i was driving on the interstate. prior to the turbocharger blowing up, there were no indications from the car's performance or indicator lights that there was a problem. when the turbo seized up the pre-glow indicator light came on shortly followed by the engine malfunction indicator light. i pulled the car off to the shoulder and was towed to the dealership. the dealership immediately accused me of not maintaining the vehicle and asked me if i purchased an extended warranty. the dealership drained the oil from the engine and sent it to their lab and had a vw rep come out to validate their claim that the car was not maintained. at no point in time did the dealership tell me that vw had extended the warranty to 10 years or 120k miles. my passat has 75k miles and has been maintained, including the most recent oil change at 63k miles. the dealership told me that the turbocharger was not covered by the warranty based on their assessment that the vehicle was not maintained so i had to pay for the repairs to the tune of $2.3k. my perception from the very beginning of my relationship with the vw dealership was they were building a case. i called vw of america and confirmed that my vehicle is covered by the extended warranty. i filed a claim with vw of america to recoup the entire $2.3k charged to my credit card and disputed the charge with amex. the burden of proof for denying the extended warranty coverage for the turbocharged is on vw. this is known issued that vw has acknowledged and underwritten with the extended warranty coverage. the fact that there no indications of failure only makes the situation worse. fortunately, there was no accident caused by car's sudden deceleration. i will hear back vw today with regard to compensation. that said, i expect ntsb to apply pressure on vw to stand behind their warranty coverage.
2013 passat tdi diesel lost power while driving is down a city street. once i pulled off the road engine light and service now light were on. a catastrophic failure occurred in the high pressure fuel pump . thus occurred in euless texas. vw will not cover my indecent under a warranty extension. they will cover 2012 models my car was manufactured before july 2012 but has a 2013 listing. as of 12/17 no repair scheduled due to $6,000 cost.
Vw sold over 500,000 'clean diesels' in the us committing fraud. i'm in limbo with a vehicle i don't want and can't sell. when is the nhtsa and epa going to require vw to buy back this car that broke a number of statutes?
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 volkswagen passat. while driving approximately 45 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was driven to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the heater and fluid tank were defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 54,000. updated 02/12/16*lj, updated 3/27/18
Vehicle schedule for 40000 mile service. engine warning light came on code p2196. volkswagen did a computer update in january 2015 for 30000 mile service, 23n5 ecm software recall. oxygen sensor (front) replaced was replaced by vw when i complained it should not have failed. the emission system is in question since the oxygen sensor is running rich. this year model should be added to recall for pollution system not function correctly. this model is diesel. tdi
Driving northerly on i-95 at highway speed going up the incline to the piscataqua river bridge (the border between new hampshire and maine), the vehicle lost forward power about halfway up the incline of the bridge approach. the engine did not stall at any time during or after the event. driver was preoccupied with [1] turning on hazard flashers, [2] safely negotiating entry to the breakdown lane, and [3] not braking in an attempt to coast to the top of the bridge such that the car could coast down the far side of the bridge and allow exiting the highway at the nearby exit #1 in maine. the driver's preoccupation with safely addressing the power loss event did not allow him to scan any of the gauges or indicators on the front panel. upon reaching the top of the bridge the car was coasting to a stop and the driver shifted between drive / sport / neutral to see if any power could be restored. within 30 seconds or less the car again resumed forward motion in the drive shift setting. car was driven to the nearby vw dealer where it was purchased. service department checked (diesel) fuel quality which was good, and found no error codes when a scan was done. a vta case was opened and owner contacted vw customer care in auburn hills, mi. subsequent testing at the same dealer's service department on 9 april 2015 also resulted in no findings for a cause. vw recommends i continue driving it until the power loss occurs again. i asked what they would then do if no error codes were again found. they indicated they would ask me to lend them the car to drive until they can get the problem to reoccur. (= a no-cost lease back to vw!). owners' opinion is that there is a design fault in the volkswagen passat engine/transmission pairing that is directly related to a deficiency of meaningful error sensors and fault / error code readout values during a power loss event.. *tr
Turbocharger failure at 15,000 miles; replaced and 2nd turbo failed at 25,000 miles. first failure was documented in a prior report and is repeated here. failure 1 at ~15,000 miles in june 2014. driving at highway speed in moderately heavy traffic at night, sudden complete loss of power. was able to safely maneuver to shoulder and vehicle was then engulfed in black smoke. was on the side of the highway for 1.5 hours waiting for tow truck sent by vw roadside assistance. lots of traffic passing by very close and at highway speeds. the turbo was replaced under warranty. failure 2 at ~25,000 miles in march 2015. driving on local road, no shoulder, at 30-40 mph. noticed intermittent whining noise and partial loss of power. was able to drive home. car was towed to dealership next day where they are currently replacing the turbo again. *tr
Turbo failure. whining sound coming from engine compartment. louder as engine rpm's increase. this is the second failure of a turbo in this car. fortunately, i caught it in time to not lose power. after tow in to dealership, they confirmed that it needs another replacement turbo to replace the first replacement turbo. *tr
Was merging onto interstate when the car lost power, check engine light and flashing glow plug illuminated. cleaned the mass air sensor and ran it for several days with no performance problems. several days later, the car would not start and was towed to dealer, who diagnosed the problem as boost pressure sensor and turbo failure. *tr
On 11/9/14 the turbo failed on my 2013 vw passat with the tdi diesel engine. vw knows they are having a serious issue with their turbos on the tdi engine (europe currently has a class action law suit against them). in august i received a letter in the mail from vw extending my warranty on the turbo to 10 years/120000 miles. they are simply waiting for the turbos to fail rather than replacing them on all 2012 & 2013 passats. this is a serious safety concern, when the turbo fails you loose all engine power (ie. gm ignition recall). this is an extremely dangerous position for vw to put its customers in who don't have the knowledge of what to do in a situation when you loose engine power at highway speeds. mine did just that, it failed on the highway resulting in no power. i would like to see vw recall these turbos and replace them in all the affected cars before it causes a fatality. *tr
Complete loss of engine power: vehicle on three occasions has experienced complete loss of engine power when shifting from reverse to drive. display depicts 'alternator malfunction' but dealership claims no fault code stored, therefore no repair can be made. i provided photos of the trouble lights and a video of other lights that come on after the power loss happens. dealership verbally acknowledged something is wrong. vehicle taken in twice for this issue, dealership unable to replicate problem. dealership troubleshoots electrical system.technician verbally told me it could be a transmission problem w/ the internal clutch failing to release, stalling the vehicle. *tr
Turbo quit making a high pitch noise... blowing smoke. *tr
Vehicle lost power while on the highway in busy traffic. glow plug light began flashing (it's a tdi) and i heard a clicking noise. i pulled over and the vehicle was immediately engulfed in smoke. i waited on the shoulder over an hour for a tow with continued busy 60+ mph traffic. vehicle was towed to the closest dealer. they've diagnosed it as a turbocharger failure. clearly this shouldn't happen at only 15,000 miles but it appears to be common. turbo and exhaust system are being replaced under warranty. *tr
This incident had to happen twice for the dealer to see the issue. accelerating from stop at a light when i reached 3000 rpm the engine stalled and the car will not accelerate. i pulled to the side and turned the car off and turned it back on problem was gone. i took it to the dealer and they could not see any issue. couple of weeks later same thing happened again but instead of turning the car off or even shifting out of d. i drove the car with that condition directly to the dealer and instructed one of the service technician to get in the car and take a ride with me. he saw the issue and this time believed me and they investigated further and found out that the knock sensors were malfunctioning. i have had nothing but problems with my car. my seat frame was fixed incorrectly twice. my navigation unit replaced twice and vw still ignoring the lag and freezing of the unit. why pay 5000 more for a navigation and camera for them not to function right. a section of my muffler was malfunctioning as well. another issue is the key fob. i found out it is effected very easily by interference and when your key fob is in the car it can say key fob not in close proximity. i am very disappointed by this vehicle, i thought vw had better quality standards. *tr
There was a whine by the turbo then black smoke. i called roadside assistance and they took the car to the dealer. the turbo went out and the engine blew. no warning lights. the car had oil. vw says pay 12k for a replacement engine and turbo. they will not cover under warranty because i missed the 10k service. we live in a remote area but i had added approved factory oil. i don't know what an oil change has to do with a turbo? *tr
Turbo failed for second time and after only 4,000 miles. began as whining noise. vehicle then showed check engine light and wouldn't accelerate above 1st gear. *tr
Started hearing a whistling type of sound and noticing that the vehicle was not accelerating when i pushed on the pedal. as i tried to pull off the road the vehicle stalled and i could not get it started to get out of the road. very scary. it finally started long enough to get to the side of the road and it stalled out again. there was smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. the vehicle would not start again. the vehicle was towed to the dealership where i purchased it and have it serviced. the service department called to tell me it was the turbo and that the vehicle needed a new engine. i will be going to the dealership on monday to pick up the vehicle but will have a list of questions on what exactly has been replaced and what type of warranty this new engine has. *tr
Own a 2013 vw passat sel tdi. glow plug light came on, pulled over, called dealer, they in turn had me turn vehicle off and restart. glow plug light on and check engine light started flashing. drove to dealer less than 4 miles. diagnostic at dealer "exhaust temp sensor" bad and they would have to order part. was told these sensors are like "light bulbs", per dealer, and will go bad routinely. pretty expensive light bulb if you ask me. i purchased a new vehicle for the sole purpose of being maintenance free, i travel extensively, this is ridiculous that a sensor should go bad with 51,000 mile on a new vehicle and if this part is a "light bulb" than vw should allow consumer to replace not charge them this ridiculous labor fee. *tr
Was driving 2013 passat tdi sel just fine. turned around in a parking lot and when i went to pull back into traffic, the car had no power. stepping on the gas almost made the car stall, but it would idle fine. after trying everything and even shutting the car off and restarting, it did the same, would idle fine but you could not step on the fuel pedal, it would make the car stall out. local mechanic drove to his nearby shop by just leaving it and drive and used idle power only to get it there (yes it took a while). there were no indicator lights on the dash so he hooked it up to his computer and it gave three errors for injector failures. vehicle was towed by roadside assistance to dealer 100 miles away. the next day, i was told the turbo charger had failed and had to be replaced. two weeks later, i was told they were still waiting for a gasket. finally after almost 3 weeks to the day, they said my car was fixed. i am going to pick it up tomorrow but have very little faith in this car after reading the numerous threads out there about the turbo charger failure rate in this model vehicle. i think its time for a recall. *tr
Traveling on the highway at approximately 65 mph, the vw passat tdi se (the "vehicle") lost power, causing the glow plug warning light to illuminate. to prevent any additional damage, the vehicle entered into limp mode. while in limp mode, the automobile becomes unable to accelerate, forcing the driver to pull over and phone for assistance. the vehicle was towed to the dealership, at which time notification was given that the vehicle's turbo needed replacement and the repair would take approximately a week. during discussions with the service consultant, they stated that a service bulletin was issued recently by vw, on turbo failures and proper modifications of the installation to prevent future failure. approximately 3-4 weeks after the initial failure, the vehicle experienced a second turbo failure. at which time, the turbo failed while crossing into traffic, jeopardizing lives of myself and my family. vw has once again replaced the turbo. i have lost confidence in the vehicle. there have been two other incidents of the vehicle losing power intermittently, but nothing sustained. if the turbo fails again, that would be a third occurrence. vw's response to the issue has been rather insignificant. *tr
While driving at 55mph, the vehicle lost power and the "glow plug" light on the dashboard illuminated. the vehicle nearly stalled on the expressway while in traffic, and then would not operate above 25-30 mph. i had the vehicle taken by flat bed tow truck to the vw dealer, where it was diagnosed as "turbine shaft seized" and repaired under warranty. review of public data reveals this to be a common occurrence with the passat equipped with the diesel engine. *tr
While starting from a stop sign, vehicle seemed to have low power. vehicle would accelerate, but very slowly. a few miles later, i had to stop for another car that had stopped to turn left into a driveway. when i attempt to accelerate after that car had turned, i had no power (vehicle was still running). i was able to coast to the side of the road, but a vehicle coming up from behind me had to brake quickly to avoid hitting my car from behind. i had the car towed to the dealer, which confirmed a failure of the turbocharger system and then replaced the turbocharger under warranty. replacement of turbocharger appears to have fixed the problem. *tr
