Vehicle lost power and shut off while driving on the street at approximately 20 mph. i had driven about 1 block on this street after having turned onto it from another street. when the car died, "steering wheel locked" displayed on dash panel. car would not start, steering wheel wouldn't move beyond about 1" to the right. message would display "steering wheel still locked" or "move steering wheel." after 40 minutes of this rotation of messages and trying to start the vehicle, moved the steering wheel up and down. car finally started but only for 3 seconds. battery light would come on. was able to start the car several times doing this and moving it 30 feet to safely park on the side of the road. temperature outside was about 30 degrees f. for about 1 month prior to this, i would periodically hear a ticking sound after removing the key from the ignition. after the ticking stopped, a message would display on the dash panel "steering column locked. visit workshop!" it was extremely cold when this happened, but it didn't happen every time i turned off the car, and the car started fine each time after. outside temp ...
Have an air bag error coming up on dash. at the same time this happened all of the controls on the steering wheel have stopped working. vehicles horn does not work now as well on the steering wheel.

The front driver side door will not lock. it will not lock with the fab, or using the manual key lock.
The problem i'm having with my 2014 passat is that one day out the blue my airbag light came on. i parked and turn of the car thinking that would solve the problem. when i started my car back up, the airbag is still on and now the horn and also the buttons on the steering wheel isn't working anymore. i have not hit anything or had any accidents period. i see many complaints from vw owners about the same issue....but i don't see any recalls about this problem. this is a big issue for me because i live in illinois and my car horn doesn't work.
While driving, i turned on my seat heater. it never came on upon exiting the vehicle i grabbed my purse which was on the passenger seat. it was hot. the seat heaters are crossed.
When the vehicle is off, the factory remote start does not function. the car will turn over, but immediately die. vw has known about this since late 2018, but has not done anything to fix the issue. i purchased my vehicle in june of 2019, and the vehicle was sold to me without the dealership letting me know the remote start would not work. i had to find out myself on a cold morning. i even called to let them know what was going on and they had me bring it in even though they already knew there was an issue. how can vw get away with selling a feature on a vehicle that does not work a year after they are aware of it?
Reference ntsa vehicle safety recall number 08v235000. it identifies a engine surge and resultant vehicle surge for vw passats in the year 2008. i recently purchased a 2008 vw passat lux wagon and have had this happen to me at least 6 times since the end of june when i bought the car. most recently, a lady was walking in front of my car in a crosswalk, i had stopped for. as i began to let off the brake, the car lunged forward about a foot, before i stopped it again. we were both noticeably shaken by what had just happened. i tried reporting this incident and the recall to my local dealer, vw of olympia< wa> only to be told it did not apply to my specific vin. i went on to contact vw cares only to be told the same thing. i did file a report with their case number 190810111. this situation may not have been apparent to my specific vin when the car was new and the recall was issued. now 12 years and 137k miles later, there it is. ...
After replacing my car battery on 2010 vw cc, the red steering wheel icon appeared on the dash followed by 3 chimes to make known of problem. the steering wheel lost all power steering. prior to occurance there was never any whining noise, abnormal shaking that could point to a problem with the steering rack. after researching i found others with the same issue and no easy fix but to tow to the shop and get a ridiculous quote on parts and labor for the replacement of the steering rack.
The abs sensor system has failed on our car for the 2nd time . the first time it occurred on the left rear wheel in 2019. when the system fails it triggers a multitude of dashboard alerts which are extremely distracting. obviously the automatic braking will not function. the first occurrence was at 43, 705 miles. i was told by a vw dealer mechanic that this was likely to occur on the other wheels. unfortunately he was right. the abs sensor failed on the right rear wheel yesterday at approximately 61,000. safety features that include blind side monitoring are adversely impacted. the sensor alert occurs when starting the car and stays on while operating the vehicle. the cost for the repair is in the neighborhood of $300.00
