We have classified the 142 complaints from 2011 Volkswagen Jetta about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
November 2014 incidents: two incidents of failing to start. first incident: car failed to start once and started on second try. second incident: car several times failed to start & engine made clanking noise. had car towed to vw agency. car started after unloaded from tow truck and agency found nothing wrong. december 2014 incident: car started, but after slowly driving to parking lot exit and before at full stop, at engine quit and would not restart. i put the car in neutral and backed down a slight grade to get car out of traffic; after coming to a stop the car started up.
Another instance of the vw radio ceasing to function even though the fuses are not blown. radio with touch pad stopped working, no voice recognition or car speaker output when connected with the blue tooth. not sure exactly how it happened as i only occasionally use the handsfree and hardly ever use the radio.
My external light malfunction indicator went on. i stopped and saw that the left running light and the right low beam light were out. i turned the car back on 2 hours later the indicator was off and all the lights were working. today i got the warning again and it cycled through to show multiple external lights needing replacement. it appears this is the melted fuse box issue. i see there has been a recall on some vws. is the 2011 jetta tdi recalled for this? *tr
Turned my vehicle on and heard the radio pop and has been useless ever since. the radio in this vehicle controls everything. i have talked to vwoa and several other vw repair shops and they have told me this is not their problem and i must pay for diagnostics and repair myself. i am very displeased with the quality of parts and service in this vehicle. also the way everyone seems to know what the problem is but lies about it really gets on my nerves. its not right that a multi billion dollar company can continue to do this to people legally. i hope that there are good people at your organization that can make this right. i have found so many different websites, blogs , forums. and disappointed people that have this same problem. i have included just a few of the ones i have found with hundreds of thousands of complaints of the same issue. thank you for taking the time to listen. http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2010/volkswagen/jetta/electrical_system/problem.aspx http://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t36009_ds552583 http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/vw_jetta.html http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/volkswagen/jetta/r51763/comments/page-23/ http://forums.edmunds.com/discussion/6721/volkswagen/jetta/vw-jetta-electrical-problems/p9 http://www.carcomplaints.com/volkswagen/jetta/2011/accessories-interior/radio_stopped_working.shtml http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2011/volkswagen/jetta/recalls/ http://forums.fourtitude.com/showthread.php?5801721-rcd-510-just-stopped-working http://www.truedelta.com/volkswagen-jetta/problems-280 http://jettajunkie.com/vw-jetta/showthread.php?45226-help-radio-and-cig-outlets-stopped-working-2011-tdi http://volkswagenownersclub.com/vw/showthread.php/23920-2009-jetta-sw-problems-in-radio-circuit-%28fuse-8%29. *tr
I was driving along when the radio made a popping noise. now it no longer works and i've lost all abilities to use my handsfree dial or answer features on my phone. radio now has a black screen and will not power on. the loss of handsfree phone through my radio is a major safety concern and having it was a contributing factor when i made the purchase. *tr
My three year old, bought brand new from the dealership jetta, and after parking overnight i got in my car to drive to work and my handsfree bluetooth, satellite, radio unit would not turn on. this is a major concern and driving hazard considering i am on call 24 hours a day and receive calls in my vehicle which is the reason why i bought this vehicle with the integrated bluetooth. after checking all the fuses i did some online research and found that this is a recurring problem with this vehicle and there was a class action lawsuit already started due to the inordinate amount of claims being filed. i then brought the vehicle to the dealership where they told me that there was a short in the unit and it would have to be replaced. i then contacted volkswagen of america where they acknowledged they there was a know short in those units but due to the miles on my vehicle nothing could be done. the unit is 3 years old and with the known electrical defects, potential fire hazards the vehicle needs to be investigated. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated while driving 40 mph, the horn failed to activate while attempting to alert the other driver of the proximity to his vehicle. as a result, the other vehicle crashed into the contact's vehicle. the dealer was contacted. the technician informed the contact that the vin was not affected by nhtsa campaign number: 11v196000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 50,000.
Car stereo went blank in my 2011 sportwagen tdi. it will not power up at all. checked the fuses and they are all good.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 volkswagen jetta. while driving at 50 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost power and was unable to be driven. the glow plug light illuminated prior to the failure. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer several times and was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the vin was unavailable. the approximate failure mileage was 35,000.
I bought a 2011 jetta in february 2011. today, i am told by the dealer that 'some wires' located under the spark plugs are short-circuiting and need to be replaced at a cost of $830 + tax. now, why are there 'some wires' under the spark plugs that are not sufficiently insulated? and, why are 'some wires' under the spark plugs anyway? i was going down i-24 at 55 mph and the car 'cut off'! the only thing that saved my life is that it was rush hour and the traffic was bumper to bumper. i was afraid to drive the car to the dealership and had to have it towed. i could have been killed!!! such a design of 'some wires' under the spark plugs is not good craftsmanship or professional design. the vehicle is not even paid for and i have to replace 'some wires' under the spark plugs already. i think this should be a recall item because of the possibility of the vehicle cutting off when driving at full speed, in traffic on a major highway. everyone with a 2011 jetta needs to be made aware of the possibility of this same 'instant shut down of engine' happening to them. there was no warning such as the engine light coming on or the car stalling when trying to start the engine. in fact, some one may be disillusioned when car restarts and drives like there is nothing to it!!! it took the dealer 2-days to fine the problem so everyone needs to be made aware of this gross danger!! *tr
The 2011 vw jetta tdi main source of communication is through the radio (delphi premium 8). i was driving and the radio completely went out after a pop. i have done some research and as a 2011 automobile, this shouldn't be happening 3 years after a new car is purchased. this is a large safety hazard while driving and not having the vehicles main communication accessible. please look more into this. this is a common occurrence with this radio model. *tr
This complaint is for the 2011 vw jetta sportwagon tdi . there is a manufacture defect that caused the fuse box under the hood to melt. this caused most of the lights on the exterior to fail, which included the headlights, taillights, brake-lights, ect. there were recalls on similar models, but not this specific car. there needs to be a recall on this car to prevent potential injuries. *tr
While attempting to accelerate car sputtered, and hesitated while losing power. regained power briefly then sputtered, lost power and engine cut off completely. started engine after letting sit for a few minutes drove home ok. happened again a week later and took it to dealership. dealer diagnosed it as faulty ignition coil and arcing. *tr
My car has had 3 stalls within 3 months. i took it to the dealer they replaced the throttle assembly. since then i was pulling out of a parking spot and put the car in drive and the car stalled. i took it to the dealer and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with the vehicle. *tr
2011 jetta has a recall (11v196000) for electrical/fuse wiring. we have encountered the problem that the recall is 4.we have no alarm horn "chirp" or horn. we called the dealer and they said that the recall did not include the tdi model yet we are having the problem the recall is 4. *tr
All of a sudden, i would turn on my car and most of the exterior lights would not work, including headlights, high beams, brake lights, blinkers, and daytime running lights. it was dangerous to suddenly drive without lights when it was nighttime or changing lanes without working blinkers to alert other drivers. i took the car in to get it checked out and apparently this is a common issue in recent vw cars, that the fuse box is melting the fuses. i read more about it online and some people described problems with other key processes failing like power steering. i can't believe vw hasn't made a recall on this because it happens to so many of their cars and requires an expensive part replacement. also this problem seems to happen to others in the 10000 miles beyond the warranty of a car in 36000 miles. that is being unfair and dishonest to customers. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated that the horn was inoperable. the contact was made aware of nhtsa campaign number: 11v196000 (electrical system). however, the vin was not included.the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the wiring for the horn needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 56,000.
My windshield washer fluid sensor came on, and it does not turn off. i did some reading online, and this seems to be a systemic issue. most of the complaints were from people who used rainx washer fluid. apparently it caused corrosion too quickly. now, i don't want to use my washer fluid as often, so that i can make sure that i don't run out when i need it. my visibility during driving is affected by this. *tr
I began experiencing issues with the anti-theft/locking system about late 2013/ early 2014. the locking system malfunctions and the doors do not lock, but also while driving the locks continuously click while trying to engage. i spoke to my local vw dealership via phone on multiple occasions and received multiple answers, but ultimately was told the cost would be around $500-600 dollars to repair, out of my pocket. i was unaware of the recall information at that time and could not afford this at this time. then, in late december of 2015 my horn suddenly, without warning, stopped working as well. i did research and found that both issues were probably related to the recall number: 11v196000 recall date: 03/29/2011. i spoke to vw customer care and was informed of other recalls as well. i took my car to the vw dealership to have all recalls performed and was reassured that this particular issue with the horn and anti-theft would be examined, along with the other recalls. the horn/anti-theft issue were not addressed as stated. that same day i emailed the service lead with the recall information and was told that my vin did not match this recall and that i would need to bring my vehicle in, again, for a diagnostic test and/or repair (services to be performed out of my pocket). according to the documentation provided by nhtsa campaign number: 11v196000 my vehicle is a match to the specific vin associated with the recall. this is a serious issue, as i understand it has to do with the electrical system malfunctioning and could very well cause other parts of the vehicle to malfunction. according to the documentation not all vehicles in this recall were accounted for, and i believe my vehicle is part of the unaccounted vehicles.
I was on my way home after work approximately 6-7 pm doing 45 mph. i looked down to my instrument cluster to check my speed to make sure i wasn't speeding. then i saw the glow plug light blinking multiple times then about less than 5-10 seconds later my engine cut out. i cost off into a harper college parking lot came to a stop. i tried to start the car 2-3 times, each time the engine was crackin over but wouldn't start it up. i called the tow truck company and had the vehicle towed to vw dealer in schaumburg, il ( fox valley vw) dealer said the high pressure fuel pump failed. vwoa cover this under power train warranty 5/60k warranty. the dealer replace hpfp, lift pump, pump in gas tank, fuel lines to engine, coils etc... repairs came to roughly $5300.00. vwoa only give 12/12k miles warranty on the hpfp. this is a known problem on some vw with cjaa 2.0l turbo diesel engines and vwoa has not found the defect in the hpfp.vwoa should extend the hpfp to 100k miles due to deft in the hpfp since they haven't found the problem and corrected it. *tr
I was driving and i tried to honk my horn because a tractor trailer was merging in my lane. my horn would not sound and i had encountered this problem before and then later that evening it started to drizzle and my windshield wipers were not working. *tr
Occasionally, the rear door on passenger side wont open even though i unlock the door with remote key. i have found in the vw consumer forum that this is not only my car's issue, but many vw jetta owners are having the same issue. i always should get inside from other door and open the applicable from inside. this is happening too often so it is being common for me to open the door for my kid who usually sits in the back. if there is any accident and whether policeman or fireman should open the door from outside, this problem can cause severe delay on rescue the passenger who sits in the back, usually children because the door is not being opened by anyhow from outside. i think vw should recall this problem. *tr
On this date (6-19-2013) my engine light came on, after that my epc light followed. then i lost speed on my car, i then pulled over at the gas station. i then noticed my horn was not working. i sat at the gas station after i turned the car off for about 15 minutes. tried to start the car up again, then it started back up and i drove home, but the engine light was still on. i didn't think much of it at that point, a week later i had the oil changed. approximately two months later (which was in august) i had the same problem. so i called volkswagen of america and explained to the cs rep my issue. they advised me to take my car to the dealership; which i did. the gentle that assisted me brought out a lab top computer and reset what ever it was he reset on the car and the engine light went off and the car drove fine. then he told me that i needed a full turn up and that it would cost me $700, because my warranty would not cover the turn up on the car. in any case, my vw jetta drive fine for about four days,i horn still didn't work. about two weeks into september of 2013, i was on my way to work and the car would not start for an whole hour. in the mist of my dilemma, late for work; i had vv of america on the phone telling the rep, corey what was happening with the car. he advised me to take the car to the dealership as well. which i made an appointment to the dealership, they also told me that the car needed a turn up as well. but they were charging me a ridiculous amount of money for the turn up. i got a full turn up on the car and now my car shakes uncontrollably, the epc light stays on. it's only driving 40 mph as we speak. i had a professional to check the engine and from what their diagnosis, two dead cylinders (po codes p0351 and p0353) and a bad computer. i am getting no financial assistance from volkswagen of america, per corey cs rep from vv of america. *tr
When the car is parked the interior and exterior lights come on until you go crank the car. the dealer completed a diagnostic test and he said everything checked out ok....this is not normal and my concern would be will it eventually affect the battery. *tr
While driving to an early morning appointment, i notice a burning smell within 5 minutes of starting the car. i soon saw smoke coming from the upper right corner of the dashboard. i immediately pulled over and turned off the car. at that point i saw a flame appearing at the front end of the driver's side rocker panel. plastic at the base of the rocker panel had melted and i could see electrical wires. i tried to stamp out the fire, but it was growing rapidly and i was unsuccessful. i got out of the car. within seconds, the flames were several feet high. i closed the door and called 911. the flames eventually extinguished themselves in the closed cabin. the firefighters arrived and opened the drivers door. most of the dashboard on the drivers side, and the headliner were melted. there was a lot of exposed bare wire visible. the temperature at the time was 34 degrees f, and this was the first trip of the day. the driver's side seat heater was turned on high, the headlights were on, and the radio was on. no other operator controlled electrical functions were on. there had been no previous electrical incidents with this car, nor were there any aftermarket electrical items installed on the car. the weather was dry. this jetta is a tdi model (diesel). *tr
This car has had multiple ignition coil problems causing a misfire and a rough rumbling engine. the ability to accelerate is greatly reduce leaving you vulnerable to car accidents in certain situations like pulling out at an intersection. this is the second incident within a year of ignition coils failing. now at 42,000 miles it is not covered under warranty. the first incident was extremely troubling not being able to maintain a constant speed with a line of traffic behind me and no where to pull over. this is a severe safety issue and should be addressed by vw. *tr
Starting the end of october, 2012 my horn started working only intermittently. on a couple of occasions i have had people pulling into my lane without looking, and i tried to honk to let them know i was there, yet the horn would not work. i had to brake hard, or swerve abruptly to avoid being hit. it works intermittently when i am locking the car with the alarm also. this is not associated with the fuse problem the cars were recalled for earlier. the horn would quit working all together if the fuse went bad. sometimes the horn works, and sometimes it doesn't. i have logged onto several on-line forums for volkswagen owners, such as www.tdi.club and noticed that others with the same car are having the same problem. i took it to volkswagen to have it fixed, and they said they found nothing wrong. the horn happened to be working that morning. there is obviously a defective part(s) problem if many are experiencing the issue. it is definitely a safety issue as the loss of the horn at the wrong time has almost caused me to have some accidents. please help! *tr
Coming back from the mall, i turned on my car and a few seconds later the engine shut down and "immoblizer active" message appeared. restarted car again, engine shut down and the same message appeared again. i tried it a couple of times more and then called vw roadside assistance to get my car towed to my dealer, which luckily, is near by the mall i was at. once at the dealer (got there at 4:30pm, and they close at 5 on saturdays), the technician had time to look at my car. he came back 15 minutes later and was surprised of what he found. the diagnostic machine could not read the engine control module. he said that pretty much according to the test, the ecm/ecu did not exist! i have had the car for about 8 months (brand new) and only aprox. 9500 miles driven so far. they will check the car in detail on the following monday. will wait for results. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated that the vehicle's horn and radio did not function, there was a burning odor, and the windows functioned independently. in addition, the vehicle felt as if it would lose power, the air bags were not functioning, and the exterior lights were malfunctioning. the epc and catalytic converter malfunction warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 93,000.
Attempted to start 2011 jetta tdi with 11000 miles after it had been sitting in a parking lot for 9 hours. temperature 45f outside. vehicle started perfectly and then died seconds later. attempted to start vehicle again, but would not turn over. had a lot of trouble getting it to start and when it did it was running very rough and then would die immediately. finally able to start vehicle and keep it running after approximately 30 minutes. was able to drive 30+ miles home - started fine after. this is the second occurrence. this first occurred approximately 1 month ago with 8000 miles on vehicle. outside temperature was in mid forties. car would not start at all - kept turning over, but would not start. glow plug light flashed intermittently. after waiting approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour the car started up fine without hesitation. vehicle was at dealer 2 days prior to second incident, but they could not find anything. vehicle will be returning to dealer asap. *tr
This is a re-occurrence of the complaint 10425920 that was submitted by me on 17 september and is listed on this site. it has happened again. symptomatically it is the same. while trying to gain access to the vehicle the key fob wouldn't open the doors. after gaining entry to the vehicle all locks are inoperative and the fuse is blown. the initial issue was worked on by my local vw dealer but due to the odd nature of the issue vw tech was consulted. the system fuse will only blow if i try to gain entry to the car with the key fobs. if a new fuse is installed and the sensors on the actual door handles are used the fuse will not blow. the dealer had the car for a week and vw was indecisive about what to do. vw advised the dealership to jump out the fuse and return the vehicle to me (and they did!) until they could figure out the way ahead. i was asked to return the vehicle to the dealer a few weeks later and a complete replacement central locking control unit was installed. i am returning the car to the dealer for another attempt at solving the problem. i am quite sure that vw shouldn't be advising dealerships to jump out fuses and return vehicles to customers for use. beyond the technical issue vw techlines behavior is alarming and it would be worth asking to see the dialog files for my issue. i will advise regarding the outcome of this next visit. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 volkswagen jetta tdi. the contact stated that the vehicle was parked and upon exiting the vehicle, there was an increase in the engine rpms. the vehicle also would not shut off. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the push to stop button failed. a switch clip on the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 2,000. updated 05/31/12*lj
Key stuck in ignition multiple times having great difficulty turning on and off car. problems appears to occur on a more frequent basis, car dealership indicated not a problem while under warranty told jiggle the key will solve the problem. progressively worse as my wife can't drive the car for fear of being stuck, she experienced this problem july 6, 2014 as she had to walk home. turning the steering wheel, moving the transmission in and out of gear and moving the key around will eventually allow the key to move into a on/off position.
The vehicle immobilizer activates, preventing the vehicle from being started and leaving driver stranded. *tr
Automatic door locks fail to work. manual entry must be gained to vehicle and doors opened on all doors other than drivers by pulling on inside handles. unable to access trunk without grabbing long hanled stick and accessing trunk emergency opening latch through back seat arm rest trunk opening. while investigating for a possible blow fuse it was noted that vw fails to provide a fuse map/diagram for these cars in the owners manual and on the back of both the underhood and in car fuse panels. vw explains this away in the owners manual on page 324 as a decision they made due to the " constant ongoing development of the car" beyond the issue with the locks i believe that failing to provide the owner of the vehicle with the fuse maps could have poetential ramifications as an owner may be unable to solve a simple technical fault on their vehicle thus hazarding themselves and others. inspection and changing of fuses is owner level maintanence/troubleshooting and volkswagen should be made to provide that information to owners. if you web search vw fuse diagram or map you will see hundreds of complaints. thanks for your time. *tt
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 volkswagen jetta. the contact was driving 10 mph when the power steering malfunctioned and the brakes failed. the contact was unable to steer the vehicle and had to use the emergency brake to stop. the battery warning light illuminated and the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the diagnostic test did not locate a failure and the contact drove the vehicle for twenty five miles before being able to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 5,800.
2011 volkswagen tdi wagon does not start with any original keys based on the message the 'immobilizer activated'. i am afraid this system could shut down my car in bad situation for no reason. i think this should be investigated. i think based on my research many other owners complaining about this issue. please investigate this. *tt
At 500 miles exactly, i heard a single click while driving. a quick scan of the instruments showed that the odometer read 500 miles and was not increasing, of course the trip odometer and fuel consumption displays also failed without any input from the odometer. dealer diagnosed problem and said the instrument cluster needed to be replaced however there were none in stock and volkswagen of america does not have any replacements. either. the vehicle runs perfectly so far but reading through other complaints at nhtsa i'm concerned about taking a planned 1200 mile trip not knowing whether a catastrophic electrical failure might leave me stranded. the dealer said volkswagen has no idea when the units will be available. it could be months and it's not clear if the replacement will solve the problem or how long it will last.
My vw jetta tdi sportwagen was operating normally on the morning of the incident, but when i went to the garage to start it that afternoon, the display read "immobilizer active" and "safe". the car would start for about 1 second then die. evidently, the built in anti-theft system had decided that my keys (i tried both sets of keys, plus the valet key) did not belong to the vehicle. it had to be towed to the dealership, where they performed a reboot of the computer to clear the problem. they cited a possible cause as being the recent electrical storms in our area. i personally think they should be ashamed to offer such a lame excuse because surely they have electrical storms in vws home country of germany, too. i hope this is the last time this problem occurs, but i have read other such incidents with the same year and model. *tr
Traveling 30 mph. battery light luminated and engine stalled. pulled over and restarted engine and it started fine battery light turned off. took it to the dealer and they replaced a relay. one week later driving on the freeway at 75mph engine stalled again in heavy traffic. started right back. drove another 10 miles and it shut off again. started up and drove it right to the dealer. this is very dangerous. the check engine light is on now. the 2011 jetta was issued a recall, and that repair was done a month ago. *kb
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated while driving 30 mph the battery lamp illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered to file a report. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 558.
Dashboard lights found in the speedometer and tachometer will turn on and off randomly when the head lights are turned off. this makes reading the dashboard difficult. dealer noticed the problem right away and ordered a replacement dashboard from vw. it's been two weeks and we are still waiting for the part to be shipped to the us from germany. car has under 1k miles. *tr
The abs, air bag, and tire pressure sensor warning indicator on dash all lit up and wouldn't goes away even after engine was shutoff. this car a volkswagen jetta was recently bought last month. *tr
On friday, april 15th at approx 10:30pm i was driving my 2011 vw jetta tdi (with less than 1800 miles on it) on the highway approx 2 1/2 hours from home and it stalled. i coasted off to the shoulder and was not able to restart the engine. after nearly 2 hours the tow truck arrived that vw roadside assistance sent and the car was towed to the nearest dealership which was about 60 miles away from the breakdown point. i had to spend the night in a hotel in a strange area. on monday, april 18th the dealership stated an outstanding electrical recall was the problem. they changed a wire harness and some fuses and the car was ready for pick up. i drove 100 miles to retrieve my car on april 18th. today on april 19th after sitting in my driveway overnight the car would not start again and was towed to the nearest vw dealership in my home town. still waiting for waiting for a diagnosis. the dealership states they only have 1 vw technician and he is on vacation through friday april 22nd. *tr
I own a 2011 vw jetta which is equipped with the new intelligent crash response system (icrs) which was put into place to maintain safety during a front end collision by turning car off, unlocking doors, shutting off fuel supply, and disconnecting the battery from the alternator. i have confirmed with the sales manager at my local dealership that the sensors for this to engage are located in the front bumper and the front doors. i was struck in the rear at a speed of 60mph on an interstate and this system engaged. the result of this engagement also powered down my steering and brakes providing me no way to control my vehicle from the rear impact. my vehicle subsequently excelerated to a very high rate of speed at which time i was lunged passed approx 10 cars or 25 yards when my tie rod broken and lunged me back into traffic at which time a front side collision finally brought the vehicle to rest. after researching this system, it appears its intentions are for front end impacts and is not set to engage from a rear impact. had i been able to steer or brake my vehicle, this loss would not have been so dramatic and serious in nature. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated that the horn would activate at any time independently and could not be shut off. the dealer was contacted and the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign id number: 11v196000 (electrical system: fuses and circuit breakers), but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified and referred the contact to speak with the dealer. there were no further repairs. the failure mileage was 800 and the current mileage was 11,000. the vin was unavailable. updated 12/02/11*lj updated 06/13/2012 *js
With the speed control engaged and while pressing the deceleration switch on the turn signal arm to slow the vehicle down, the speed unexpectedly increases. each press of the deceleration switch normally causes the speed to be reduced by 1 mile per hour. the first few presses cause the vehicle to decelerate as it should, but occasionally on the third or fourth press the speed jumps back up by 2 or 3 mile per hour. sometimes it corrects itself and sometimes it keeps repeating the pattern.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 volkswagen jetta. while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the battery warning light. the vehicle would not restart and had to be pushed into a parking lot. within a few minutes, the battery warning light was no longer illuminated and the vehicle restarted. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the failure did not recur. the approximate failure mileage was 280.
Issues began with faulty starter. then progressed to a battery of electrical issues from windows moving in reverse of desired order to horn and keys dying. each time dealer brushed off issue. when horn and keys died (also with faulty start button) dealer tried to force me to drive unsafe vehicle until they got around to fixing the problem. most other times the issue was ignored or i was treated as though i was making up the problem. (these problems include radio staying on when car is completely off, and after manually switching it off, it then will turn back on while the car is still off (even though the car will not start and i have to use the long hold lock function to roll windows up). the car also will reopen trunk upon close, flash passenger seat belt warnings when the seat is empty, not display gear when moving, not display mileage/fuel level while simultaneously listing mileage range from selected screen, etc. problems are worse in extreme weather. i have attempted to have the problems fixed multiple times to no avail. recently, i have taken the car in several times to have service light diagnosed. dealer reset light each time without bothering to check the source. problem progressed to engine not starting, sluggish and jerky acceleration, lurching stops, and, most recently, shutting off while driving. this is absolutely a manufacturer issue, and i am planning to pursue all options available to rectify. not only has volkswagen produced an unsafe vehicle, but they are also aware of these problems and make a great effort to avoid dealing with them. *tr
New car manual transmission, car stalls out at low speeds on snow covered roads. rpm's 1400 - 2000 can stop problem if traction control is disabled. i have driven manuals for over 30 years and it is not operator error it is a problem with the traction control and computer system - it dies in traffic and requires the key to be turned all the way off and then back on to get the car started. taking the rpm's up to 2500 avoids the problem - but this will certainly wear out the clutch. dealer feels it is just a sensitive clutch - i now have 600 miles on the car and have to disable traction control to stop the stalling at start ups and low speed shifting.
