When toyota recalled takoma trucks for frame rust i took it to the dealer and was told it didn't have enough rust to qualify. now when i had it checked ou the mechanic said it isn't safe to drive any more. when i complained to toyta customer service they said the time for replacing the frames was over. the truck is still dangerous to drive and i feel the frame should be replaced.

Frame rust. truck was treated during the recall in dec 2014 and dealer stated it would be fine. 5 years and 19,000 miles later, the frame is totally rusted through. contacted toyota and they said there's nothing they can do because the warranty expired. vehicle was treated and if treated correctly it should have lasted longer than 5 years.

There was a recall for frame rust on tacoma trucks between 2005-2010. my truck was affected with this recall and i took it to a toyota dealer in dec 2014 for evaluation. the dealer said the frame was fine but they applied a corrosion protection spray and said that would protect the frame. in august 2019, we notice a good bit of rust on the frame and took it to a different toyota dealer and they said there's a lot of rust and the frame is rusted through. in 2014 when treated as a solution to the recall, the truck had 56,853 miles on it. in august 2019 when we took it in for evaluation, the truck had 75,239 miles on it. since 2014, we only put 19,092 miles on the truck. attached is some photo's of the frame and 1 of the truck to show the condition of the vehicle. my complaint is we did what we were supposed to do when the recall was active and we were told the corrosion protection spray would protect the frame but now i have a safety issue because the frame is rusted through and per the dealer there's nothing they can do because there's no open program. if protected, why did the frame rust through with very little miles on it. i'm going use the date as august 7, 2019 since that's when the dealer said the frame was rusted through.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma. the contact stated that the undercarriage was rusted out and the vehicle was dangerous to drive. the vehicle was taken to team toyota langhorne (746 e lincoln hwy, langhorne, pa 19047, 267-569-0691), but was not diagnosed. the dealer sprayed the undercarriage with an anti-corrosion ointment, but the repair failed. the contact stated that there were presently holes in the undercarriage. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the extended warranty was expired; therefore, they could not assist. the failure mileage was 80,000.

In nov./2016 my tacoma frame was replaced. at that time the rear bumper and trailer hitch were not replaced. today i was inspecting my trailer hitch and bumper and found the bumper to be delaminating metal.

97,224 miles. the frame is rusted and broken at the left front near the cab mount under the door. my truck was made in canada, but i purchased it used in minneasota, so it's registered in us. canada's frame warranty class action lawsuit requires my truck to be registered in canada to qualify for a new frame and toyota us requires my truck to be made in the us to qualify for the massive frame recall here. what can i do to make my otherwise very nice truck safe to drive again? the crack was discovered during an oil change and i have only driven it 1/2 a mile since. thank you.

Car abs wire disconnect, coolant in transmission lines and 4th gear not functional.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma. while driving at any speed, the suspension made an abnormal noise. prior to the noise, the vehicle was repaired per an unknown manufacturer recall pertaining to the frame. the contact was uncertain if the recall repair caused the suspension noise. the vehicle was taken to more than two dealers, including tansky sawmill toyota (6300 sawmill rd, dublin, oh 43017, (614) 766-4800) and buckeye toyota (1903 riverway dr, lancaster, oh 43130, (740) 654-3943) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. the contact was uncertain if the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v604000 (suspension). the manufacturer was contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was not available.

The gas tank straps rusted and the gas tank fell from the body of the truck while in motion at low speed entering a parking lot. the vehicle was part of the north east corrosion recall and serviced in nov 2015. however, the straps were not replaced and failed about 21 months later. case filed with toyota, 1708182077 with no resolution nor concern with the condition. ira toyota of manchester invoice# 736796 replaced the fuel sub-assy bands p/n 77601-04050 and 77602-04010. a small amount of fuel was spilled due to the low speed of travel at the time and short distance to stop the vehicle (about 5mph and 30 feet). concern is for the safety of those that might have straps fail while at higher speed.

Went to get my car inspected and it failed for a rusted frame. did some research and found out it's under recall.

I went to my mechanic for a small repair recently and he informed me (and showed me) extensive rust on the frame and a major split in the frame from the extensive rust. he has told me that perforations are imminent in the frame and that the frame will need to be replaced. he also found rust damage to my brakes, rotors, paint (chipping with rust), wheel caps, and tailgate. he informed me that i cannot safely drive this truck on dirt roads or haul anything. 75% of the roads where i reside are dirt roads. cost of frame replacement would exceed what i paid for the truck; i have owned this truck for 6 months. i have contacted toyota and a local toyota dealership for assistance, but have yet to hear back from either. i understand there was a class action lawsuit that was settled in 2016 for this very issue. toyota needs to replace the frame of my truck and repair or replace all of the affected parts of the truck due to the extensive rust damage. i use my truck to travel long distances in order to take care of my mom who lives 600+ miles from me; my mechanic has informed me that it is not safe to drive this truck for long distances. this has a substantial impact on my daily life and my ability to take care of my mom. i do not believe i should have to bare the responsibility or liability of the damage caused by deficient parts used in the manufacturing process. toyota should be made liable for these damages. please advise. i will be contacting my lawyer.

The vehicle frame is so rusty everywhere including visible cracks that i do not know if it is safe to drive anymore. i am sure it will not be safe to tow anything for sure or the thing will break in half.

I took my toyota tacoma 2006 in for service at pauly toyota 1035 s. route 31, crystal lake, il 60014 last night and they found several cracks in the frame, the area were the springs are mounting to, is really rusted and in really bad condition. the cracks don't seem to be new, and there is even paint in between the crack so they knew the crack was there in february 2015 when i took my truck to be painted, this was part of the frame rust recall by toyota. the frame was not wire brush at least to get some of the rust off for the paint to attach to it, within 2 months big pieces of metal and paint were falling from the frame. on september of 2015 i took my truck to pauly toyota to be inspected for hole or problems in the frame, because of the big pieces of metal falling from the frame and they said everything was ok. now a year later the frame has several cracks.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer in 2015 where an anti-corrosive material was applied to the subframe. while inspecting the vehicle, the contact discovered that the subframe experienced severe rusting and corrosion. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 105,000.

I am the original owner of this 06 tacoma, 140 thousand miles. in april i was informed by my mechanic that the frame appeared to have extensive rust. he checked for a recall and found that it had ended the previous month. i did some research and found that toyota had a recall (that i was never informed of) and had replaced thousands of frames. after more research i found that this has been an ongoing issue since the 1990's. i recently took the truck to toyota of turnersville nj for other warranty work and asked if they would check the frame. the note they left on the receipt stated "extensive rusting of both front frame rails. do not recommend long trips of heavy loads!! " this truck is used to travel from nj to va. usually with my grandchildren sometimes twice a month. the service rep. answer to the problem was that maybe i could find someone to weld some steel to the frame ???...i just hope that my issue (and i am sure there thousands of others) can be resolved brfore someone has to die on the highway as is typical.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma. while driving in reverse at 5 mph, the contact heard an unusual noise. the contact checked the vehicle and discovered that the frame was damaged. the contact stated that the manufacturer was notified of the issue and stated that the warranty to repair the frame had expired. there were no recalls for the frame failure. the failure mileage was 185,000.

I purchased a used 2006 toyota tacoma several years ago. my mechanic recently noticed severe rust damage to my frame when performing an oil change. they mentioned to me about a campaign that toyota was doing where they were replacing frames or coating them. when i inquired about this i learned that the campaign had expired on 3/31/16. i spoke with an executive with toyota several times only to be told that they would not do anything further since it is after the expiration date. they said they mailed out 3 notices in regards to the campaign in which i did not receive a one. i obviously would have taken care of such a safety issue had i known. i am very surprised that toyota would not extend this campaign or that it would not be deemed as a full blown recall with no expiration! how can such a serious safety issue have an expiration date! i now have a vehicle that i am nervous to be driving let alone have a member of my family drive. this is very upsetting especially since i never received a notice. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma. the contact stated that the vehicle frame experienced severe corrosion. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not provided.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma. the contact stated that there was rust on the bed cab and frame. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact called stapp interstate toyota (8019 raspberry way, frederick, co 80504, (303) 776-1743) and was informed that they were unable to service the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact called larry h. miller toyota boulder (2465 48th ct, boulder, co 80301, (720) 907-0926) and was advised to schedule a service appointment. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 1906051787. no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was 150,000.

Vehicle was subject to a limited service campaign for frame corrosion that expired march 2016. i was unaware of this campaign and when i took my vehicle in for service at the dealership, i was informed that my vehicle would have been covered by the campaign and that the current state of the frame is questionable to pass virginia state inspection next year. i have filed a bbb complaint and the response from toyota was that they are compliant with all regulations and that no accommodation or extension of the lsc will be considered. i am the original owner who now has a vehicle that could potentially fail due to an acknowledged defect by the manufacturer.

I too am a victim of the defective toyota tacoma frame. the frame of my vehicle rusted through to the point of breaking, rendering my vehicle completely unsafe to drive. the vehicle only has 78,000 miles, and is now utterly worthless. i was driving the vehicle at highway speeds when i felt the frame give way, immediately changing the entire dynamic of performance. i was able to get the vehicle to my home when i discovered the frame had rusted through completely, dropping the vehicle between the cab and the bed. only luck and my own driving experience kept me from crashing when the defective frame failed. i contacted toyota, thinking that this issue would be handled because of the obvious manufacturer defect in the frame of the vehicle. i was wrong about this, and was met with complete disregard and a smug assurance that toyota would never make any amends for this defective product. i was told that a notice was mailed to the previous owner of the vehicle, and that this met their obligation and that nothing further would be done concerning the matter. to say that the american consumer has been taken advantage of in this situation is a gross understatement. from the number of complaints concerning this exact situation, it is clear that there is a systemic defect in the frame used by toyota in these vehicles. the manufacturer knows this, but instead of making efforts to correct the problem, they are expending their resources to defend not addressing the issue. just because the company set an arbitrary date when they would no longer address the issue does not make the issue go away. they knowingly installed defective components in these vehicles and are now engaged in a deceptive and manipulative campaign to shirk their responsibility to the american consumer. i implore the nhsta to be the voice of the individual in this matter, as alone, we have no recourse.

This is what i wrote to toyota "hello there, i already called toyota customer care number and even got a case number for my problem and the answer i got was we can not help you with your problem because there is no warranty after the recall period is over. i will start from the beginning. my truck is 2006 toyota tacoma . i got a letter in mail about the recall for the frame and it stated that if my truck has excessive rust or a hole in it they will replace the frame, if not they will coat the frame to slow down the rust on the frame. i took to my dealer, they inspected it and found no holes in my frame. they will apply the coating and sent me on my marry way. this was back in 1/20/2015. now fast forward to 9/6/2016 and now i have a big hole in my frame and a lot more rust then before. i don't take to beach. i take very good care of the truck but it's that defective frame that is on the truck. i know 95-00 tacoma's did a buy back program a few years ago. the 2001-2004 if the frame got coated you gave the a 15 year warranty on the frame. 2005-2008 tacoma's in canada got the same 15 year warranty if the frame got coated. so why not 2005-2008 tacoma"s in the usa don't have that warranty? my point is you kinda need to work with me and others with this problem. this will be an safety issue at some point. the safety of myself, my family and other drivers. please help me out now before it's too late. "

During a recent safety inspection, the inspector noted that the frame was rusted and in one spot was rusted through. contacted the manufacturer and was told that a recall had been initiated but had expired in march of 2016. additionally, the manufacturer stated that the recall was not safety related. i have never been notified of this recall. driving the vehicle with a frame that may fail is not safe. i believe that toyota should be required to issue a safety recall and that they should be required to repair this unsafe condition caused by lack of a viable quality control program.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma. while the vehicle was stationary, the contact noticed that the frame was rusted severely. the vehicle was taken to be repaired per a recall in which the frame was spraycoated, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 75,000. the vin and nhtsa campaign number were unavailable.

The frame of my truck is dangerously rusted, and toyota refuses to honor its own recall commitment to replace the frame because of an arbitrary deadline for inspection. the date is irrelevant to the basic problem -- their frame is defective, i and my passengers are at risk, and repair is urgently needed. nhsta should challenge auto makers, especially toyota, on the policy of time-limited recalls. updated 11/08/2017*js

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma. per a toyota customer satisfaction campaign, the contact was informed that the vehicle experienced severe corrosion. the vehicle was coated in anti-corrosion adhesive, but the corrosion worsened on the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was approximately 72,000. updated 01/04/17*lj

My tacoma truck was brought to dealer in 2014, per recall instructions, for frame corrosion issue, the dealer elected to spray the frame. in early part of 2016 i brought truck in for leaf spring recall. the dealer found a hole in the frame, sent pictures to toyota requesting authorization to repair frame before replacing leaf springs, toyota denied frame repair request. because of the issue with frame the dealer would not replace leaf springs. i contacted toyota and was told that it is toyota's policy that they would not replace the leaf springs on an unsafe vehicle. when i stated that the vehicle was unsafe because the frame issue was not corrected in 2014 i was told that the frame recall was over and there was no recourse. so now i have an unsafe vehicle because the frame recall was not properly addressed in 2014 and toyota would not approve replacement of leaf springs in2016.

01/22/15 toyota dealer applied corrosion-resistant compound (crc), to frame of 2006 tacoma (mileage 113835), a recall service. march 2016, i discovered crc peeling/flaking off many places on the frame. it appeared crc had been applied over rust. 4/12/16 we asked dealer to inspect crc during upcoming recall service for leaf spring assemblies. these were replaced 06/23/16 (mileage 138878). invoice reads, 'please note: crc on frame is peeling off'. dealer advised calling toyota customer experience center. 06/24/16 toyota created case complaint #1606240431. they notified us 6/27/16 that the crc campaign had ended and there was no remedy. 08/01/16, proprietor of a local garage, in business since 1955, evaluated. he was aware of the recall, had worked on other recalled trucks and said this was the worst he had seen. he thought crc had been applied to cover up rust. he recommended sand blasting and re-applying rust protectant soon before rust causes a serious safety issue. 08/11/16, owner of a body shop evaluated and said it would be difficult if not impossible to remove the rust. he was surprised the dealer had not replaced the frame, since he was aware of many frames being replaced by another dealer 40 miles away. both professionals noted bubbling &/or buckling frame metal due to rust and said this will eventually become a very serious safety issue. 8/31/16, i contacted toyota customer experience center to share professional opinions. the supervisor said toyota would do nothing and would assume no liability for property damage, injury or death if the rusted frame breaks and causes an accident. i said this was unacceptable and repeatedly asked to speak with her manager. she said she did not have a manager and she terminated my call. toyota's failed remedy leaves us with the initial recall problem and safety concern.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma. while using the pressure washer to wash the undercarriage of the vehicle, the contact noticed excessive amounts of rust emitting from the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the contact was informed that there was a limited manufacturer's extended warranty on the vehicle, which had expired. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v604000 (suspension). the approximate failure mileage was 100,600. updated 04/18/17 *lj updated 09/06/2017*js

Frame corrosion. the frame on my 2006 toyota tacoma truck is very rusty. the metal is just flaking off. i took it to the car wash and while washing underneath parts of the metal just flaked off in large pieces. i called the dealer and was told they couldn't help me and gave me a customer service number for toyota corporation. i called that number and was told a limited service campaign for corrosion problems on my truck ended on march 31, 2016. they could not assist me with my problem because it wasn't a safety recall. what will it take for this problem to become a safety issue. the frames on these trucks are defective. they are fracturing and rendering these trucks useless. many of us cannot afford to replace the frames and if we sell this problem is so well known we can't get a fair price for vehicles. my truck has 100600 miles on it. i've taken care of the truck but it doesn't matter. the frame rusted anyway. please help those of us that have these vehicles. toyota should recognize that this is a safety issue just like it was before. the only difference is that toyota learned how to avoid responsibility for these defective frames.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma. a year after the vehicle was repaired per an unknown recall, the subframe was rusted. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the cause of the failure was undetermined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 41,000. updated 10/06/16*lj *tr

I recently discovered that the frame of of this truck, only 10 years old, had severely rusted to the point where it is no longer safe to drive. toyota has informed me that there had been a limited service period for this problem but it had expired. i was unaware of this and do not believe i was notified. i believe this to be a severe safety issue which many like me may not be aware of. if the frame were to fail while travelling at highway speeds it is quite possible people could be severely injured.

2006 toyota tacoma. consumer writes in regards to dealerships refusal to repair vehicle frame corrosion/holes safety recall. *smd the consumer was informed there was no recall, but a limited service campaign. the consumer also stated the leaf spring broke and was held with into place with a wire. updated 03/01/17.*jb

2006 tacoma has major frame rust. toyota approved rustproofing was applied in may 2015 by the original toyota dealer. one year later, the rustproofing is falling off in sheets, showing the separating layers of frame steel. i contacted toyota (case 1060290111) and was told there was nothing toyota would do. i had wanted the frame and rustproofing to be inspected by toyota. they would do neither. they called the dealer that applied the coating and suggested i take it to them, for inspection, but they are 300 mile away. i asked if a local dealer could perform the task, but was told toyota would not authorize that. the truck has 165000 miles and is otherwise in very good condition. my fear is that the frame will fail while driving on the road.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma. while the vehicle was undergoing maintenance, the contact was informed that there was severe rust to the subframe of the vehicle. the manufacturer was informed of the severe corrosion; however, the contact was informed that the warranty period had expired. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 163,086.

I took my 2006 toyota tacoma to boch toyota as part of toyota service campaign regarding frame recall back in dec of 2015. i waited 5 months to get my truck back to get it back in deplorable conditions. truck was not repaired satisfactorily and i am still having issues with it. i have made several complaints to toyota and both toyota to no avail. truck barely running. *tr

Toyota settlement on frames: frame rusted out underneath, there is a class action law suit that just got settled with toyota, see below. problem when i go to a toyota dealer to have it fixed they say its to late but the settlement clearly lists my year and make truck. http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2016/11/toyota-settles-pickup-frame-rust-lawsuit-for-34-billion.html settlement from toyota

I was unaware of any issue with rust problems in the frame when i bought the truck used in march 2014, nor did i ever receive any letters from toyota regarding problems with rusting frames. during a regular maintenance tune-up at a toyota dealer 05/13/2016 (160,000 miles), they reported to me 2 holes in the frame resulting from rust and that the vehicle will not pass inspection. they also reported that the manufacture had extended some kind of 'recall' to deal with the problem had expired march 31, 2016 and there was nothing the dealership could do. the dealer gave me a referral to a specialist that specialize in repairing rusted frames. went to another mechanic to see if it was worth the expense to invest in the truck, they then brought it to the local toyota dealership, which reported that the truck had the toyota's attempt fix undercoating done and that nothing else would be done by the manufacture. called the toyota corporation customer service and reported the problem. they called back to say nothing would be done.

On dec 12, 2014 , gualt toyota in endicott ny inspected truck frame as a result of the toyota truck frame recall. as a result, they applied undercoating to the frame. on may 6, 2016, my mechanic reported that i need to get my truck to toyota for the frame recall asap. i told him that gault had applied undercoating and his response was that the undercoating is gone and he could not tell that it was undercoated. he also reported that frame will soon become a safety issue. i called toyota directly and they refused to help me with the issue.
