It's been over a year since i received a recall notice regarding the rear leaf spring. what is taking toyota so long in repairing this problem? i'll be dead before it's fixed. or is that what they're counting on.

Took my tacoma into dealer for noise coming out the back of truck turn out that my truck had 2 active recalls on it one was the frame and the other was rear spring. they told me that the frame had to be replace because there was significant rust and had made a hole on it. my problem is that toyota still has my truck with no ata on repair. they said that i can have my truck back if i sign a waiver if my truck is not safe why would i want to sign a waiver. the did provide a loner car but its only good for 30 day after that i am on my own. as you can see it been 6 week since they took my truck. *tr

The vehicle has significant frame rust. there are several areas on the frame where large sections of metal have delaminated. this presents a structural integrity issue in key supporting areas of the frame assembly for major components to include drive train, braking and suspension. the overall crash worthiness is in question due to the structural integrity issue presented by the frame design, metal composition and premature rusting and metal fatigue. toyota has started a limited service campaign to apply a corrosion resistance protection, but this issue should be a safety recall. based on the magnitude of damage from rusting in my case the only resolution would be a full frame replacement. i have pictures of the frame damage and rust available. i will also be sending toyota a letter requesting an inspection by the regional factor representative prior to any repairs. *tr

Nov 17, 2014, i brought my tacoma in for recall frame inspection. it failed. i was told they would order replacement frame. i was told it would be in mid january '15. i called the dealer today. they said no frame arrived and no eta when it would arrive. they guessed mid march, another two months away, but no assurance it was true. i don't drive my truck due to the weak frame. i still pay insurance on it. why can toyota offer free frame replacement and not deliver a new frame in a timely manner? *tr

Frame rust recall. *tr

I own a 2005 toyota tacoma access cab. i got a "limited service campaign notice" that my truck might have abnormal rust on the frame. i put it on a lift and behold there was a huge hole in my frame making it not drivable. apparently toyota is not being up front with its customers and has known about this defect in the 2005-2011 model years. my dealer said a new frame will cost around $14,000 to replace. they said toyota would pay for the frame but will not buy back the truck. i still do not understand how they are willing to spend $14,000 on a frame on a truck that is worth $15,000 i have heard from dealers that the frames are on national back order and are at least 3 months out. please investigate the 2005-2011 tacoma claims. i think a full recall is due. my truck could of killed someone. i am sure there is a lot of ticking time bombs out there. *tr

Toyota issued a limited service campaign number csc-10056075-4484 for 2005 thru 2008 toyota tacoma truck with frame rust problems, mine was inspected at the local toyota dealer and was told that it would not pass the wv state inspection yearly procedure. but was told by toyota usa that my vin is not one included in the campaign even though it fits the year and model. so i am stuck with a truck that is unsafe to operate. i have only one vehicle and retired and need the truck. *tr

In the summer of 2013 my rear tire feel out from beneath my truck while i was driving. the cross bars that held the tire had rusted through. i filed an nhtsa complaint. early this spring i brought my tacoma to my toyota dealer to complain about a larger perforation that appeared in my frame. there dealer photographed it, sent it to toyota, and informed me they would call me if toyota was going to take any action. the service manager told me he was hearing rumors of a frame recall and that i should check in periodically. early in october of this year i read on he internet about the tacoma "leaf spring" recall and brought my truck back to toyota. my truck was again inspected, photographed, and a few days later i was told to bring my truck in. i was told that toyota was mailing out notices to qualified toyota owners and that i should be getting my recall notification letter soon. i have never yet received that letter. however, i brought my truck back to the dealer on october 10 and they promptly impounded it, saying it was unsafe to drive. the service manager told me that although the frame replacement would take just a few days, the frames had not yet arrived and i should expect a two to three month delay. i filed a complaint with toyota and a few days later the customer service representative who called me offered no further solution (i suggested that toyota buy back my truck and offered me a credit towards the purchase of a new toyota), but did add that she thought the frames would take longer still to come in and that i should expect to be without my truck for four months. i am currently driving a loaner paid for by toyota, but one that does not well meet then needs met by my personal truck. *tr

I took my vehicle for maintenance and was told that the frame on my 2005 tacoma x-runner is rusted and showing signs of cracking. i called toyota corporate to complain about the issue and was told there was nothing they can do about it since there is no recall or tsb. the rust is so bad that i can no longer drive my vehicle. there was a recall notice for the cold weather states to recoat or replace rusted frames so toyota knows of the problem especially since they had the same issue with 95-04 tacomas. *tr

I first received recall notice nhtsa october 2014. i called the local toyota dealer and they informed when the parts are available they will replace the defective part (leaf springs). i called a month later and received the same story. additionally, the dealer informed me that they will call me when the parts are available for install. i waited an additional two months before calling again and was given the same story. at the one year mark upon receiving this first notice i called the dealer and asked the status of this recall. i was given the same story, as the parts become available they will call me and let me know they are ready to install them on the vehicle. i have since called them monthly and received the same story over and over again. it appears toyota does not want to pay for this problem they created.

I received several recall notices from toyota and took my vehicle to the dealer multiple times, but the repair dept kept informing me that a fix hasn't been finalized yet. contradicting to to recall notice, they told me this issue was not a "big deal." according to the recall, there is a possibility that a leaf could fracture due to stress and corrosion. and, if this occurs and the vehicle continues to be operated, the broken leaf could move out of position and contact surrounding components, including the fuel tank. if the broken leaf contacts the fuel tank repeatedly, it could puncture the tank and cause a fuel leak. in the presence of an ignition source, this could result in a fire. toyota claimed they would replace the leaf springs with newly designed ones, bit this has yet to happen.

On my old 1998 toyota tacoma i got the deal on buyback when the frame rusted out so bad with holes in it.then i went out and bought a 2005 toyota tacoma and this truck has rust from end to end on the frame again. when i bought it in 2006 toyota said they had that fixed but this 2005 is alot worse with alot more rust then the 1998.i also took it to the garage to have the power steering pump and alternator and ac pump replaced because everything was rusted up on the alternator and ac pump and power steering so bad the mechanic told me to keep the parts and show the toyota dealership and nhtsa.i was lucky that everything shut down on the truck when i got it to the bottom of my driveway and then got it towed to the mechanic and 1790.00 dollars later with labor and parts let me tell you not happy with toyota.please nhtsa look at this problem and if you need a truck to take pics of mine is the one i used to work at a body shop so i know this truck would do the job for nhtsa my truck has 78000 miles on it i will take pics of it for you if you wish. *tr

I took the vehicle to koons toyota on saturday, aug 2nd for an oil change. the dealer contacted me and advised the vehicle had a frame condition that made it too dangerous to drive the vehicle. when i got there the vehicle was on the lift and the frame had extreme rust and a large hole in it and the exact same hole was developing on the opposite side. i contacted toyota and filed a complaint and received this response from them: [xxx], we apologize for your concern with the frame on your 2005 tacoma. at this time, your tacoma is not involved in any recalls or warranty enhancements for the frame. until a recall or warranty enhancement is announced for your tacoma, there is nothing that we can do at this time. your email has been documented at our national headquarters under file #1408052561. if we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us. sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I was driving my truck when suddenly i heard a clunk and my truck jerked like my right rear wheel locked up then my truck bounced. i pulled over but i wasn't sure what to look for. i took my truck in to lithia toyota and was told they saw nothing wrong but i told them i think something broke. i was told my shocks might have gone bad. i later had my shocks replaced because they said the shocks will help my ride. later i found out by researching that it in fact was not a shock issue, and that others have leaf spring issues so i took to a local mechanic and they said they were shot. when i mentioned this to lithia toyota they said i could replace them but it would be out of my pocket costs. i told them i think it broke off and that i had spoken with them before but nothing was done. 6 months have passed as my truck everyday ride was bouncy, bottomed out so i could not travel long distances due to this issue. i finally received a letter from toyota stating they have a recall for leaf springs for my truck.i told them that i wasn't surprised. i was treated by toyota like i was making it up and that i was just trying to get something for free when in fact it was a safety issue which could have been taken care of when i first reported my problem. plus i don't think i needed to replace my shocks and now am out that money. *tr

The following is the dealer inspection report for my truck: "found extreme corrosion to frame. tow hook and driver side sway bar mount unable to re-attach due to frame perforation front cross member missing (rusted off) found hole in left side of frame. steering rack mounts extremely perforated, ready to detach. do not recommend driving vehicle due to extreme damage to frame" truck purchased new, single owner, well maintained. ...updated 06/10/14 *bf

I recently purchased a 2005 toyota tacoma trd sport double cab and discovered it had severe and dangerous frame rust. it has a hole rusted through the frame in the front and large rust flakes are falling off in other various places. upon doing research, i found out about the massive recalls regarding frame rust on toyota trucks. i spoke with toyota and they said the frame would be replaced if it were currently registered in a cold climate state. i am trying to get them to email me that statement so i can have it for my records. the truck came from a cold climate state. it is currently registered in north carolina. they said they won't help me only because it is in nc, no matter how dangerous the rust. is that legal for them exclude me for that reason? i have pictures to prove that my frame is just as bad as the trucks being repaired. it is definitely a safety concern because it is not a matter of if, but when the frame breaks. thanks for your help. *tr

Normal driving on the street i noticed a noise on the rear right side of my vehicle and i stopped to verify what happen when and i realize that the rear right spring assembly was broken ( split apart in two sections). *tr

I have noticed excessive rust on the frame of my 2005 toyota tacoma and also rust hole through the frame/leaf spring mount on the right side. i did contact and send pictures to toyota customer experience center file# stating that the vehicle is out of warranty and they wont repair this unsafe condition that so many tacoma's are having. when one of these tacoma's gets into an accident with the frames compromised by the rust it will cause severe injury or death to the occupants and this has to be fixed now. *tr

I took my truck to get it inspected and they said there are holes in the frame a large as my hand. it will not pass inspection and cannot be driven. i have been driving my 2 little sons around in this vehicle which has been unsafe for a long time. the holes are big enough to have started years ago as a small hole which make the truck undrivable. i have a nice looking truck that cannot be driven. the 1st generation tacomas were recalled for this same reason. what is toyota going to do? *tr

The frame on my 2005 toyota tacoma pre runner is completely rusted out due to a flaw in the manufacturing process. the recall was 3 months past the date of the end of the recall. now my vehicle has large cracks in the frame and is no longer safe. this issue still exists in the 2005 model and must be addressed for public safety. there was a recall that covered this problem up until the end of 2004. mine was purchased in the beginning of 2005. this is a known problem with this truck and is being ignored by toyota. they are failing to repair this and picking and choosing if they infact want to repair some trucks and not others. toyotas options on the fact that my truck has a manufacture defect that is unsafe to drive. please help!! *tr

Started hearing rubbing/grinding type noise coming from front end. inspected and found lf cv axle leaking grease, so thought the noise was coming from there. replaced lf cv axle, and the noise did not go away. inspected further and found drivers side frame where the motor mount bracket is welded to cracked, causing the motor to flex and the fan to rub on the fan shroud. contacted toyota, who instructed me to get it inspected at a dealership. took to toyota dealer, who told me there was no evidence of driver abuse, no rust, not really anything that showed why the weld had broken, but that toyota did not want to do anything due to aftermarket lift and oversized tired. lift was already installed on vehicle when purchased at a toyota dealership. toyota corporate told me they did not want to help because vehicle is out of factory warranty. the steering shaft is directly under the part of the motor that is sagging down, and i am afraid if it were to break completely it might stop the vehicle from being able to turn. also, is there now extra stress on any of the wiring? is it flexing and potentially breaking any fuel lines? i have done some reasearch on this, and found a lot of peolple having the same issues with their trucks. toyota has started putting updated frames with more support for the motor mounts on the 2007 models, knowing there were issues with the 05/06s, but are refusing to acknowledge the problem and fix the ones that have broken. *tr

during a repair visit to toyota service center i was informed that my frame was rusting in several places. i was told that at the present time the vehicle was safe to drive but that the rust would continue and lead to an unsafe condition. toyota is aware of rusting problems with previous model years. i see that the 2004 and earlier model years were recalled for rusting frames. dealerships was also aware of an increase in frame rusting cases in 2005 tacoma trucks as well. truck only has 66,000 miles and was not used for heavy hauling. repair or reinforcement is not an option. only remedy offered by toyota was for me to replace the frame at a cost of $13,000. i feel this is an unsafe design flaw that needs to be addressed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 toyota tacoma. the contact stated that the vehicle was serviced per the manufacturer customer limited service campaign that was related to the frame. the contact mentioned that a compound solution was applied to the entire frame. in 2016, the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear of the vehicle was completely corroded and declined to service the vehicle per nhtsa campaign number: 14v604000 (suspension) due to the rear leaf spring's excessive rust corrosion. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 77,455.

Notified by dealer truck would not pass inspection due to frame being cracked and rusted. toyota will not cover repairs. is not safe to drive . sub frame isn't deteriated like frame .

I am the original owner of a 2005 toyota tacoma pick up listed above. back in the fall of 2013 i was advised by my local mechanic that my truck had frame rot near the front passenger side of the vehicle. i brought the truck to lia toyota in colonie, ny and they documented the problem. several months past and i did not hear anything back from them. i called the natl customer service at 800-331-4331, who advised that the problem was documented, case #9735757600. i have been back and forth with the local dealer but to no avail. i am not getting any feedback. i know that toyota has had problems with frame rot in the past and it was supposedly rectified but apparently not. i am just trying to figure out what i do next. In august 2013 while i was living in mexico taking care of my elderly father my 2005 toyota tacoma ay 67k miles started having noises in the suspension area . while i am not a mechanic i was referred to a man named adrian who specialized in suspensions and brakes . he drove my tacoma and discovered the noise was caused by cracked leaf springs on the rear of my truck , i too was under the truck and saw the cracks and breakage . i contacted toyota's customer care and was basically told " your truck in not under warranty so you will have to fix the truck your self ". i drove my other vehicle as the mechanic told me the vehicle was dangerous to drive as it was . i ordered some new leaf springs and had them shipped from summit racing , they were the few shops to offer international shipping . when the parts came in i had my mechanic install them for a very reasonable $120 usd . i saw that there were many owners of trucks like mine that has similar part failure so knew the problem was more than toyota was telling and they were still not admitting there was a problem. several months later i received a recall letter from toyota and seeing than nearly 700,000 vehicle like mine were affected . i had already repaired the vehicle as i needed to be able to drive it and thought there might be in the future some reimbursement . i have now waited over two years for a reimbursement from toyota and they keep asking for a written statement that the broken leaf springs "were not from some other external forces" and i keep getting the run around from toyota's irritating customer service people . i still own the truck , still out the $722.97 ,and still exasperated that toyota would be so unreasonable with a customer . can you please help me in theis regard to recommend some agency to help solve this ?
