Toyota has issued a technical service bulletin t-sb-0107-19 titled "hesitation on acceleration from a slow or rolling stop". it calls for reprogramming of the electronic control module by a toyota dealer. it goes on to say that toyota is not notifying rav4 owners of this fix, you have to go to the dealer and tell them you are having a problem.
Rav4 has been maintained per toyota's recommendations. at approx 86k miles it started using up excessive amounts of oil. oil is not leaking, nor burning (can't see anything in the tail pipes), and there's no burn oil smell anywhere. after researching, i found that in 2011, toyota issued tsb-0094-11 that acknowledged excessive oil consumption in my year vehicle. toyota also issued a lsc ze7 which offered free repair for qualified vehicles during the campaign (11/24/2017 or 150k miles whichever came first). unfortunately my car just hit 86k miles. i'm the 2nd owner and never got any notification. my car is burning about 1 quart per 1,000 miles. after speaking to toyota cust no-svc, they're not willing to do anything. even though they acknowledge there's an issue!!! my case with toyota is 1912311193. from my online research i've seen many people impacted that have not been helped by toyota. this is just not right. toyota has kept this very quiet.
There is a problem with the rear differential coupling that may cause the car to lock up at high speeds. the repair cost is ridiculous and toyota will not stand behind its product. the car makes terrible bumping noises at low speeds and sounds like it will lock up.
Rear axle seals failed due to clogged differential vent. car has 93k miles on it. the vent is impossible to reach and can't be cleaned easily. also it costs $1300 to fix it.
2017 toyota rav4 transmission gives up at 100k miles.the toyota dealer ask me to $6000 for repair.
The incident occurred on 11/13/2019 @ 8:30am. i had started my 2014 toyota rav4, pulled out from under the carport apprx. 25ft and put the vehicle in park and fully engaged the parking brake i always do this if i need to leave the vehicle running for any reason. in this case i was heating the interior as it was chilli. i went back inside my home to get the animal crate that contained my cat who needed to go to the vet. as i was loading the crate into the front seat the vehicle began moving in reverse. i was between the open door and the vehicle itself and after freaking out a second looked to see if the parking brake had disengaged. it had not.at that point i was along for the ride and the car drug me toward the laundry room and i went underneath the open door holding onto the armrest. when i had to release my trip i was laid out on my back with my arms and hands raised. the right front tire came into contact with first my left elbow then wrist then hand wrenching my left shoulder as it ...
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 toyota rav4. on several occasions, while driving, the vehicle failed to shift into gear correctly. the contact stated that the vehicle occasionally failed to shift into third gear. the rpms would rev; however, the vehicle would lose forward momentum. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000. the vin was not available. *dt *dl *js
Trans mission jerks hard after i come to a complete stop and drive again.
3 weeks after the 50,000 mile service, on october 22 2019, i was driving 35 mph on soquel avenue, when the car became unresponsive, i lost all power and control of the vehicle, and "check ev system" came onto the instrument cluster. i was able to coast to the side of the road into a bus stop, turned the car off, and had the car towed into the dealership. the dealership was unable to replicate the symptom and informed me that it was due to the 12v battery. they replaced it and assured me the issue would not happen again. on nov 11, 2019, the issue happened again while i was on the highway this time. i had the car towed in again to toyota, who informed me that "some rav4 evs have been in the shop for months, unable to be diagnosed". i researched the symptom online and found that it related to a 2015 recall that related to the electric traction motor. toyota's description of the f01 recall: in the involved rav4 ev's, components in the electric vehicle traction motor assembly, which is part of the propulsion system, may cause the vehicle to shift ...
