I purchased this vehicle from sheehy nissan on sept. 25, 2010, with 89,720 miles, one previous owner and no accidents/damage reported to carfax, after having a state inspection done of all major systems. i have the oil changed at regular intervals (most recently, sept. 23, 2011 at 110,990 miles) and had 100k mile servicing done on july 19, 2011. the engine failed during a drive to new york. climbing the bridge out of delaware, the rpms abnormally increased. i saw the oil light illuminate, turned off the radio, opened the window and heard the engine making loud noises. i pulled to the shoulder on the approach to the new jersey turnpike. when the car came to a stop, the engine stalled and would not restart. the temperature gauge remained at the mid-way point, but a greasy film covered the back bumper. aaa towed it back to my shop, where mechanics said they could not get the engine to turn. they said the oil pump had failed. oil was in the engine but wasn't circulating, and they found fresh oil and metal shavings in the pan. i paid $3,819 for a complete engine rebuild for a four-year old car. searching the ...
My 2005 camry has 53000 on it, very well maintained. was driving 25 mph on a traverse when the engine suddenly died. i tried to restart the car without success. called a towing service, however, 10 minutes later i was able to start the car and drove home. the "service engine" light remained on. at first chance i drove my car to my local mechanic who told me it was the throttle body, but suggested to bring my car to the toyota dealer because he had seen so many of camry throttle malfunctions that he thought there might be a recall. i took his advice, brought it to the dealer who confirmed that my throttle body was bad and needed replacing. however he told me that he could not guarantee that the "service engine" light would not go off unless i had an engine flush and a full tune-up. this did not sit well with me, so i declined the services. i paid him $100 as a diagnostic fee. when he went to get my car, the engine would not turn on at all. i called a towing company ...

It is 2002 toyota camry le with 2.4l 2az-fe engine. it happened while car was driven. engine produced a loud bang and stalled. did not started after cranking it. before trip there was noticeable steam out of exhaust. after considering head gasket failure there was attempt to replace the gasket. during repair was found that several head bolts were loose due to striping from their sits. after digging in google it was found that was a common problem for this engines. it seems like it is a manufacturer design flow. all 2az-fe engines are prone to this because of inadequate heat dispersion at the back of the engine. toyota customer service response is that they have nothing to do with it. this is a major design flow and there should be a recall. all engines from 2002 are prone to it. *tr
I have a 2003 toyota camry 4cyl car with 52,000 miles, that has a coolant leak from the back of the engine next to the intake manifold. on further inspection and research, it was revealed that the leak is coming from the head gasket area, due to stripped out block/headbolt, as a clear sign of manufacturer defect indicated and substantiated by the amount of similar cases found on internet forums such as: http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/camry/148454-camry-with-stripped-head-bolts-2/. i called toyota headquarters to report this problem, seeking help with this $6,000 issue and was told "nothing we will do". it seems car makers will not do the right thing unless they are forced to and this is why i am trying to do my part to jolt a vehicle recall for this design failure, by a company claiming to put costumers first, but instead snubs so many of us the first chance they get. consumers need help with this issue with toyota; please help us. the best fix so far reported is purchasing another toyota 4cyl motor with the same flawed engineering and toyota wants no part of being responsible for their short coming. i've own a few toyota's, this is absolutely the most disappointing ...
