I am having problem with my car 2 months ago, when i starting after few second something blocking and l stops.i am using my car for communication between home job, school on street, not to much using on highway. on 19 november 2018 i changed my oil and asked them check everything for winter time, also told about problem, because i am grandma and everyday pickin up my grandkids from school. the body shop find out about transmission and recall. adviced me to call toyota. my car had recall on 2014.we purchased this car on 2014 and dealer did not told us about recall. car had already 60000 miles, now my car has 82171 miles. also recall paper was sent to 1 st owner. i talked with toyota they suggest me to do inspection in any toyota dealer and they will fix, but today autonation toyota dealer liberty i'll service told me whole transmission needs to change and recall will not cover cost. inspection shows transmission lunges sometimes when starting from stop diag 30 transmission failing between 2nd and3rd gears. i would say never repaired transmission converter last 5 years this defect affected to whole transmission. i would like to ask you help me to replace my transmission. replacement will cost$6723.00, we almost soon paying off our loan less than this amount.this service clerk adviced me to change transmission or trade and buy another car. we have been very happy soon we will not gone have anymore monthly payments, so now come up like not put to danger my grand kids , we should buy or pay for replacement.even if we do trade our car, dealer will not fix transmission and sale to another person who will have soon a problem as like me.

While driving on any road between 20 and 40 mph, 3rd and 4th speed, the transmission shudders and while pressing the gas, the vehicle hesitates. sometimes it is somewhat clear to accelerate, other times it feels like you are fighting a wall that will not move. i believe from what i have read that it has to do with the ecu and a possible faulty torque converter. this should be looked into by the nhtsa proactively, and not left to the individual consumer to see if the issue resolves itself. if the car fails in moving traffic, someone could hit me from behind. at this time, i am having to go from 2nd speed to 4th speed by 40 mph to go around 3rd gear altogether. this is not the way the car should operate. vehicle is in motion when this happens on any road at any time.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 toyota camry. the contact noticed abnormal sputtering and a strong vibration coming from the vehicle while driving 20 to 50 mph. the dealer (advantage toyota valley stream, 400 w sunrise highway, valley stream, new york 11581, 516-887-3200) determined that the intake valve needed to be replaced. the part was replaced but, within a month, the vehicle was taken back for a second diagnostic testing where it was diagnosed that the transmission assembly needed to be replaced. an independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and recommended that the contact check with the manufacturer for a service campaign concerning sputtering and the torque converter. the manufacturer and the dealer (hillside toyota, 139-65 queens blvd, jamaica, ny 11435, (718) 571-8211) were contacted and an appointment was made for diagnostic testing and repairs. the contact was waiting for a response from the manufacturer to determine if they would approve the recall repair. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was not available. *tt *tr

Car had no problems til i reached the 120000 mile mark now the car shuts off without notice, burning oil and check engine light goes off and on

Ac would take its time coming on, felt like it was struggling to blow. now its completely broken. foul smelling order when ac turned on.

The car hesitates for three to five seconds after decelerating, or when turning a corner, taking my foot off the pedal and then trying to accelerate again. brought to dealer and they updated the software and told me there isn't any problems with the care. they lie. over 200 people have reported this problem with toyotas on one site alone.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 toyota camry. while driving between 30-50 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle would shutter and lose power without warning. the contact mentioned that failure had been present for several months, but seemed to be getting worse. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was an extended warranty program; however, the vin was not included. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

I rear ended a jeep wrangler going about 30 miles an hour on the interstate. the jeep was stationary and my car was in motion my airbags did not deploy and i hit my forehead on the steering wheel which caused a large knot and cut on my forehead.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 toyota camry. while driving 15 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle completely lost power. in addition, the contact stated that the failure occurred at least eight times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer to be repaired, but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 48,000.

I am getting a flutter when i press on the gas pedal as i am driving on the road. i thought it was in the wheel, but it is actually the torque converter. when i contacted toyota the second time about this problem, a mechanic rode with me to hear what was going on. he stated it was the torque converter and that they had replaced a few of them. he said they would do a software update and then replace the torque converter later that week. i received a call back later that day stating my vin number wasn't included with the recall of the torque converters and he would contact toyota to see if they would still cover it, because they had covered other vehicles. i received a call back over a week later to state toyota said they would only cover half of the cost. this defect is something toyota is fully aware of and should be taking care of the costs for the customer. i have googled about this problem and a lot of 2012 camry's are having the same problem. the customer should not have to cover the costs of a malfunction that toyota caused. if they are taking care of some of the customers, they most definitely should be taking care of this problem with all their customers. my car was only three years old when this problem started and i have to replace a transmission. this is ridiculous. toyota needs to stand behind their product. toyota didn't sell defective engines before, but now they do. something needs to be done about this. regardless if my vin number didn't fall in line with the recall list, i am having the exact same problem so someone needs to include it and have toyota fix my car. i'm in the last year of paying for my car and i have to put out almost $5,700.00 out for an engine? this is not happening. something needs to be done. toyota needs to step up and cover their defective torque converter and transmission.

Driver ran into rear end of truck with heavy duty trailer hitch. the frontend of the camry sustained $5700 damage. the airbags did not deploy. *tr

Rodents have discovered the soy compound used to insulate the wires. my daughter has had to replace wiring twice in the last month. the damage to the wiring results in engine and transmission issues including stalling. this is as dangerous as the issues affecting gm cobalts. *tr

Very bsd hesitation on acceleration very dangerous

Tl* the contact owns 2012 toyota camry. the contact stated that the service engine warning light started flashing on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the sensor was reset but the failure recurred until the warning light remained illuminated. the contact parked the vehicle and later discovered that the vehicle was on fire. the contact noticed that the fire originated from under the hood on the front passenger's side. the contact was not able to contain the fire as the front and rear passenger side tires, as well as the rear driver's side tire exploded. the fire department was called and was able to extinguish the fire. there were no injuries and the vehicle was destroyed. a police report was filed of the incident. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 18000.

Recently i experienced two events which started me thinking about one safety feature of the new automobile ignition systems. i have a 2012 toyota camry which has an ignition key (?) which does not have to be inserted into an ignition keyhole for starting the engine. one has to push the start/stop button while depressing the brake pedal to start the engine, and just have to push the start/stop button to turn off the engine. (this is now standard for most new vehicles.). on two recent occasions i parked my car and walked away without pushing the start/stop button. i did not realize what i did for two reasons: (1) the engine runs extremely quietly, (2) more importantly, i was not required to turn off the engine by turning the ignition key which is something that i have been doing almost subconsciously. on both occasions i did not come back until about half an hour later to discover that the engine was not turned off. the safety issue arises from the following scenario. suppose i came back home at night, parked the car in the garage under the house, gone inside the house and retired for the night. the presence of the key in my pocket does not guarantee that the car is not idling. this is the big change brought on by the new ignition keys. the engine running in the garage can create an extremely dangerous carbon monoxide poisoning situation for the inhabitants of the house. a simple solution to this possible carbon monoxide build-up problem would be to install an automatic engine shut-off feature in the car after a certain amount of time (~20-30 minutes) that the engine has been idling. when i contacted toyota they said that such a feature does not exist in my model of the car. i hope you will study this possible safety problem and come up with a feasible solution. *tr

I called sparks dealership about recall on car 12/30/13. they put me on list saying they do not have part from company. i called today 1/20/14 and they said they still do not have part. *tr

This complaint is similar to complaint #10545567. the camry experiences spurious or intermittent acceleration hesitation and sometimes stalls when acceleration is needed. this is a potentially dangerous condition especially in when entering a highway or accelerating onto an interstate. dealer has been notified several times about the situation, but because this is an intermittent condition, the dealer doesn't see it and claims cannot diagnose the condition. *tr

I bought this vehicle on september 2012 just for my usual commute of 20 miles per day. the first few months just about 1000 miles on the odometer i started to experience stalling anytime i slow down on traffic or turning. i thought because it new vehicle but it keep on until my first oil change about 5000 miles when i complained to the dealership; there is no any code and i was referred back to the dealership that i bought; second oil change no problem found. now it stalls almost any time that i am driving it, i did open a case (case #: 1309201533) with toyota north america, and i got call from their regional representative today that because there is no code, toyota cannot resolve the problem because there is no any code to diagnostic. i am afraid, this will cause an accident to me and my family because i have nine and seven years old who always sit at the back, and if the car was to stall us on highway, it will be a serious disaster for my family. please, i will like toyota to take the vehicle with a complete diagnostics or replace it completely as i am paying for it as at now. thank you *js

Car totaled in severe accident after ownership of eight months. airbags did not deploy. i was driving south on mcloughlin blvd in portland or and my toyota was struck from behind by a chrysler with such force that it hit several other cars (believe the police officer said 6.)

When a light turns green and i try and go forward my toyota camry will not accelerate for 2 to 7 seconds. there was a recall for software that was supposed to fix the issue, how ever it is still happening. the issue is intermittent occurring about every 1000 miles. in the last 4 months another issue has happened where i will be going along at about 30 miles per hour and suddenly the car will stall out for about 5 seconds, this has happened 6 times now. i have taken it to two toyota dealerships the first one refused to look at it without me paying a diagnostic fee, the other toyota kept the car for a week and said they could not duplicate the problem so there was nothing they would do. i called toyota national service center at 1 888 2709371 and was told there is nothing they will do because the dealership cannot replicate the problem. my issue is they know there is an issue, they sent me a letter stating that there might be problems and they voluntarily extended my warranty on the specific parts they know can cause issues. i am concerned for my safety, and have tried to get the issue resolved. what are the next steps i can take to get the issue fixed. *tr

I am the owner of a 2012 toyota camry....on at least four occasions the motor has remained running after i left the car....this car has push button ignition....did i not turn if off properly or is there a system malfunction....i park my car in an attached garage to our house and the door to our house from the garage is left open in the summer for ventilation.....if the car remained running unknown to us during the night we would perish from the carbon monoxide fumes....i feel this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed by toyota, if not only for us but other toyota camry owners....so far toyota has not addressed this issue to our satisfaction....in fact the owner of the dealership where we purchased the car laughed at our safety concern.....the alarm system on the car is useless as the alarm is the same when i start the car as when i stop the car and have the door open or if do not turn off the engine and get out of the car and close the door....all these alarms sound the same and make them ineffective....i have a hearing problem related to ear surgery replacing my bones of hearing by an implant in my right ear which also makes it hard for me to hear if the engine is running or turned off.....the alarm system on this car needs to be modified to ensure notification to the driver if the engine is running be it human error or system malfunction..... *tr

Tl* the contact owns 2012 toyota camry. the contact stated that when she attempted to start the vehicle it would not start. the vehicle would only start with a jump start and then it was driven to the dealer. this failure occurred four times over a period of one year. the dealer diagnosed that the engine needed to be charged and was not being driven enough. the manufacturer was not notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 8,400.

The car is becoming undriveable. i took it to the dealership to get checked out, and they said there's nothing wrong with it. on their report they stated "the vehicle's operating as designed." since i bought this car it's been performing progressively worse. every time i drive the car it seems to lose power. the ride is choppy, burdened, and labored. the entire car seems to be struggling with itself. i get into the car feeling fine physically, and then i feel ill and sick after a while. there's foul odors coming from my car, definitely from the exterior and possibly from the inside. the dealership checked for exhaust leaks and didn't find any, but i'm smelling things in the car no one should be smelling. it even seems like the car wobbles and shimmies as it travels down the road. *tr

This happens while driving at any speeds. i was driving at 20mph and needed to pick up speed to make a pass and the car just kept on revving and the speed did not increase at all and when it finally picked up speed, it was a hard jerk. it has been happening more often. another incident at a yield sign heading into the highway. as i was entering the highway, i hit brake to slow down and had to gas up to get into the lane and the car just didn't move. i stepped on the gas pedal and the car didn't move. i already changed the torque converter within the warranty but the problem still exist. as of right now, the car is out of warranty. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 toyota camry. the contact stated tat while driving 60 mph, there was a loud screeching noise from the engine area as the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, who performed a diagnostic and advised that they could not detect any failure codes nor could the failure be duplicated. the failure recurred intermittently. the manufacturer was notified of the issue by mail but there was no response. the failure mileage was 1,500.

I was driving at 60 mph on highway but suddenly the engine revved all the way to 7000 rpm and the car jerked violently. i put my foot off the accelerator but the engine still stays at 5000 rpm and doesn't go back down to normal. had to pull over to the shoulder with emergency light on. tried to get back on the highway but at 35 to 40 mph, the engine made loud revving noise and the rpm jumped to 7000 again. had to pull over again and call for a tow truck. *tr

P/o response ltr to toyota corp. re 2012 camrydate: december 26, 2013 - ...furthermore,my brother and i have stressed to everyone we have spoken with since our first contact on dec16, 2013 with toyota regarding these dangerous mechanical problems i.e., the unintended acceleration, steering pulling to the right as well as the offensive odor that occurs when the ac is turned on. ...no one will assist us until january 6, 2014...we cannot imagine that ceo [xxx]... would find it acceptable to wait three (3) weeks - until january 6, 2014- to first begin an investigation while being left with a defective and damaged toyota camry. [xxx]. did not respond to our phone call either. we located nov 16 2012 details and fwd to toyota corp: nov 16, 2012- at approximately 11:15pm on the 405s, all traffic was stopped by the police north of the skirball. we were standing still for about 10 minutes. suddenly, our car lunged forward due to unintended acceleration. as the car veered to the right, i managed, with great effort, to steer the car as we went into the lane to the right of us. after traveling more than 100 feet, i was finally able to get the car to come to a stop. thankfully, we did not hit and were not hit by passing police and fire vehicles. we also smelled something burning in our car for a couple of minutes. on november 17, 2012, we went into toyota service to report what had occurred the night before. we wanted toyota to know what had happened because it was very frightening and we were concerned about our safety. we also wanted to know how many other people had experienced this problem and how toyota had resolved this dangerous, safety problem. toyota service checked and responded that there was no recall for this unintended acceleration in the 2012 camry. unfortunately, we accepted that this was an isolated incident experienced only by us. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 toyota camry. the contact stated while driving at various mileages, the engine began losing power. the engine restarted after power loss but the failure continued to occur on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the throttle control needed to be replaced. the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 45,000.

Entering a driveway at 2mph the car accelerated to approximately 30mph and struck a brick wall. the air bags deployed causing injury and the car was totaled. *tr

On acceleration the gas cuts out, lasting around 3 to 10 seconds. i cannot duplicate this condition, it just happens sporadically. it is very dangerous because the car behind me has no indication that i am in limbo and could easily rear-end me. this usually occurs when i am turning at a low speed, but has happened when driving straight. *tr
