My excessive oil consumption engine needed repairs per a toyota major recall. i took the car and as you can see below it has been a very frustrating experience. after being told that my 2009 toyota camry was on a recall list, i was given a possible repair date of within 10 months. i waited and was given a drop off date of 1/23/2017. i was given a rental car and went on to work. after 5 days i was told my car was ready but, that i would have to pay for parts that were removed/replaced to do the work on the recall. i questioned why i was being charged for consequential damages to parts that should be included as part of the labor due to the recall. i got fetched a long story from toyotas 800 number and i had no choice but, go pick up my car and pay the $269.54. i picked it up and noticed that it was driven 58 miles, upon leaving and as i got on the main road i noticed that there was a huge crack on my windshield as well. i called back and spoke to [xxx] , he was rude, a bully, and accused me of lying about the damage. i begged them to pull their security tapes which they refused. toyota should pay for this recall to include any parts that should get damaged in the process as they perform their repairs. i'm asking for a full refund and an investigation into the damaged windshield. i refuse to go back to their store and prefer to have the windshield replaced at either my residence or place of employment. i've owned 3 toyotas and refuse to go by and purchase my next car from [xxx]. i realize that i am a single customer however; i work hard for my money. i've never tried to abuse my car and i keep up with the maintenance. in my opinion [xxx] should be retrained. his lack of professionalism is going to cost you guys thousands and you will continue to lose valuable customers if you continue to refuse to do the right thing. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act ...

Since we have purchased this vehicle, both sun visor's have broken due to poor design which utilizes plastic tabs where the visor pivots up and down. the visors subsequently hang down obscuring visibility. we purchased a driver's side about 1 year ago at a cost of $90.00 and on july 24th the passenger side visor broke and now needs replacing. this will be a cycle, because even the replacement visor has the same plastic pivot. we live in alabama and the summer sun virtually bakes the part. i expect this to continue happening. very disappointing design. i've owned cars for over 30 years and never known sun visors to break like this. updated 9/15/15 *ln

Driving 55 mph on expressway when the glass moon roof exploded. there was no object hitting it. after stopping to inspect the damage, the glass looked as if it was slightly pushed upwards around the hole. the entire glass area was cracked, there was a hole about 12" x 5" in center. *tr

Sunvisor on passenger side loosend and then broke off.the panel on air bag on passenger side started coming apart, and lastly a loud clunking sound as i turned steering wheel. *tr

My 2009 toyota camry had a window switch failure. on the main switch assembly, the switch button that controls the passenger's windows partially melted due to an apparent short. this could potentially have resulted in a fire, hence this report. please add this complaint in your current investigation about this specific manufacturing defect and will appreciate any updates on this investigation. *tr

Driving down the road at 65 (posted speed limit) when drivers side sun visor broke, flopped down right in front of my face, blocking road from my view. had to hold it up until i found a safe place to pull over. could have crashed. *tr

While driving our 2009 toyota camry se model that my wife drives 95% of the time, i was being annoyed by the driver side visor droping down and obstructing my view, it would not stay fully up, in asking my wife about this she responded it has been that way for a while but is getting worse, and she mentioned the passenger side is very difficult to pull into the down position and then back up, stopped using it because she did not want to break it. i ordered thru the dealer the driver side visor and weeks after i am told it is in back order and not available at this time. i wonder if toyota is using there available stock for those consumers that take it in for dealer repair/replacement at a cost to the consumer, as i have read in some of the complaints. what am i to do ? any suggestions ? help !!!! i dont want to wait for a accident to happen.

Driver's side sun visor broke and is blocking visibility and unsafe in a crash as it will impact my forehead. *tr

The driver-side sun visor on my 2009 toyota camry recently broke. like many others have already reported, the visor will not stay up and makes visibility while driving very difficult. in order to drive, i had to physically remove the visor to see, but now i have no visor to help shield the sun, which also makes visibility difficult. i have seen this issue reported online by many different individuals ranging from 2007-2009 camry models. my car is only 3 years old and this should not happen. i hope toyota can acknowledge this flaw and provide a fix. *tr

I have a 2009 camry and the driver's side sun visor has failed. it hangs there, only will stay in 2 or 3 specific positions and when it is "up" it droops down in my line of sight causing a serious hazard in driving (which i do a lot of for work every day). this is a serious issue and toyota has refused to cover the repair even though this is a common issue and caused by their faulty equipment and cost saving measures. this needs to be addressed for all affected owners asap. *js

I was driving on the highway at 70mph when all of a sudden my sun visor fell down and impaired my seeing the road ahead. i went to go flip it up but it had broken suddenly and without warning and would not stay up. i was trying to get off the highway while holding up the visor and trying to keep up with traffic as to not cause an accident. when i finally got off the road i had to actually rip the visor off because it wouldn't go up at all no matter what i did. the car is barely 2 years old. normally i would just fix this and move on with my life, but upon doing some research i realized that there are literally thousands of complaints dating back to the 2007 camry on the same visor issue. we were lucky we were able to get off the highway but let me tell you, i couldn't see a thing and if there was a car in front of me when it fell down i would have hit something or someone. again, it was without warning and just fell down - i wasn't moving it or touching it. i'm beyond upset especially now that i know that toyota was well aware of the situation. *kb

I was driving my car and went to put sun visor down and it just broke no warning or anything. i did not even pull hard. just normal use and it obstructed my view. as it was just dangling in my face would not stay up towards the window. when i called the dealer they said there has been some others having same issue but, there hasn't been anyone that has gotten hurt or they have not made alot out of it. they want me to spend 110.00 just for part which is faulty part. *tr

Driver side and passenger side sun visors both split on top within 1 week of each other. vehicle is only 3 years old. *tr

The sun visor in 2009 toyota camry xle hangs in face while driving.in the down position and would not stay secured in the "up" position, it then came off bracket and could be seen through the upholstery. due to the major obstruction of vision it had to completely remove the visor to prevent wrecking. the black metal hinge allowing the visor to "flip" cracked the plastic tube like piece at the top of the visor causing it to stay down against the windshield. *tt

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 toyota camry. the contact stated that when the driver closed the driver side door, she heard a pop noise. the driver then noticed that there was a hole in the back window. the driver drove the vehicle home and more glass then dropped out of it as she drove over bumps in the road. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the dealer took pictures of the window. the contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the current mileage was 4,442. the failure mileage was approximately 4,410.

2009 toyota camry. the driver side sun visor dropped to the down position blocking site visibility ( this occurred while the vehicle was being driven and was in motion on a public highway) and it will not stay in the retracted (against the roof) position. it continues to obstruct vision when in the forward position and blocks peripheral vision when swung up against the driver's side window. when the dealer was contacted their representative stated that it is a common and ongoing problem that has not been addressed by toyota. searches on the internet reveal that this is a problem that has persisted for a number of years. it is highly likely that this problem will lead to vehicular damaged and/or personal injury if it has not already. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2009 toyota camry. while driving approximately 30 mph, the contact stated that white particles were being emitting through the ventilation system. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer several times where the evaporator was replaced twice and the vents were cleaned. the failure continued and became worse. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 10,449 and the current mileage was approximately 21,000. updated 1/21/11 *cn the consumer stated the vehicle pulled to the right while driving. it was discovered the tires had premature tire wear. updated 04/20/11

In my 2009 toyota camry le, the recirculation switch turns off after about three minutes, letting in air from the outside. this is an ongoing problem whenever i'm behind a diesel vehicle. my car fills with fumes that affect my breathing. the first time i went to the toyota dealer, they said it was a standard fix, and would cost me $50. when i went in a second time, and said i didn't want to pay, they said there was no way to fix it. it's clear to me that this is a design defect, that will have a detrimental effect on the driver and passengers, and that toyota needs to fix it. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2009 toyota camry. approximately one month ago the the contact stated that her radio display was not visible whenever she started the vehicle. within a few weeks, the rear power windows began opening on their own. the contact was driving approximately 20 mph when the brakes were engaged; however, the vehicle would not stop which caused her to crash into a vehicle in front of her. there were no injuries. the vehicle was towed to a body shop who advised the contact that there was also an electrical failure since the vehicle would start. the repair shop made several attempts to start the vehicle and was unsuccessful. the manufacturer advised her that the recall repair will start in april and that she would have to wait until then. the contact stated that the air bags did not deploy. the failure mileage was 19854.

When i was driving at night, i started to feel a lot of heat in my right hand, the heat came from the radio and the a/c controls stop working and the radio too, the radio turn blank but keep playing the a/c controls keep turning on and off by them selves. since then my radio goes blank, on and off and the dealer wont do nothing about it, i have check with different camry's owners and i have found out that they have the same problem. i also have problems with my brakes???? when i step on the brakes my steering wheel starts shaking like if the rotors were bad, i took the car to my mechanic only to find out that a idle arm is bad ,and he as well as other camry's owners tell me that there are a lot problems with those arms. my car is stock, i haven't done any modifications. the other problem that i have is that i took the car for new tires and i saw rust inside all my rims, i live in california so there no snow or i do not live to close to the beach, and i do not know what to do, i told the dealer and they say nothing they can do. my visors keep falling off and they come of their base. *tr

2009 toyota camry passenger window fell within two weeks of having the vechile. *tr

Having problems with the windshield. i guess you can call it windshield bubbles. real bad at sunrise and at sunset. kind of looks like hair spray residue on the windshield. waiting for the factory rep. to look at it. looks like it is embedded in the glass. not a clear view when driving into the sun. *tr

In this cold morning, the rear window of my car was covered with frost. i turned on the rear window defrost. i found the frost never melt in about one-fourth (or even one third) of the rear window from the top, while the frost of the rest of the rear window is completely dissolved by heat wire. the heat wire did not work for the upper part but worked for the rest part of the window. it is really a hazard when you drive and you can not really see clearly from your rear view mirror. *tr
