The dashboard on my 2008 toyota camry is melting, and in the process becoming sticky and shiny. the stickiness is a nuisance, but the shininess is a hazard as it promotes heavy glare on the windshield. it makes me on a sunny day they can lose sight of the road, i almost hit another car due to the visibility. this is on the news, internet. i didn't receive any letter from toyota about enhancement warranty and even when i check with toyota dealer they said it has no recalls. now toyota said my car out of warranty 7 mpnths ago, and they can't do anything. this should be a recall.

Melting dashboards: causing extreme reflection off windshield making it difficult to drive.

When i bought my car, the passenger sunvisor wouldn't stay up. the dealer said it was about a $500-$600 part & he wasn't going to pay to fix it. being that i never sat in the passenger side it did not bother me. there was however a recall on this part, & after many attempts to contact a local toyota dealership to order the part & schedule to get this fixed by the time allotment they had placed. so, my actual complaint is that they placed a time allotment. because, after that time allotment expired. all of a sudden the drivers side sun visor broke. you don't think about how useful a sun visor truly is, until you are no longer able to use it. it's installed for a reason, not to be something fancy in a car. i can't tell you how many times, the sun has played a major role in almost causing an accident due to failure to see oncoming traffic, traffic lights, etc. clearly, toyota recalled this due to the many failures it had already received. if, i was aware that the $500-$600 part was going to break a month after it's recall date. i most likely would of tried to get it replaced somehow? of, course they won't fix it until it's broken. it's going to be awfully hard to get a fair market value when trying to eventually trade in the car or sell it outright. when, it is obvious that something is wrong with the car. and, nobody is going to pay $500-$600 to fix this. so, for major safety issues to try & stop a wreck or fatality from occurring please do something about this. thanfully, my airbags have not been recalled yet! toyota is liable for this, & they should be mandated to fix this! the recall was for 2007-2011 toyota camry's

Toyota camry 2008 was parked with the engine off. driver, sitting in driver's seat listening to the radio, hears an explosive noise directly behind him. turns around to see two four-inch diameter holes on the right side of the back window. the entire back window exhibits fracturing. within five minutes, ninety percent of the back window has disintegrated into pieces. no one is near the car. no evidence of projectiles in or around the car. ambient temperature is in the seventies. weather was raining. driver had engaged the rear window defogger prior to spontaneous shatter. defogger was off at the time of shatter. air conditioning was not on prior to shatter. mileage 62250. toyota disowns responsibility for the spontaneous shatter.

During an accident in november of 2015 i received substantial injuries as a result of the airbag not inflating or the seatbelt engaging. i spoke with the body shop as to why neither system worked as designed, they could not answer this question. they believed that the sensors were compressed to engage the air bags but it did not engage. they also noted that when i hit the brakes the seatbelts should have locked which would have kept me stationary instead of allow me to hit the driver door jam above the steering wheel. both vehicles were in motion. the vehicle that hit me made a left turn into my front left quarter panel damaging the entire panel and part of the front driver door.

I have a toyota camry and of the board is melting and i is difficult at the besst sun does get good visibility because the sunlight so bright hinders my vision board. i want to know where i can go to help me to fix this flaw. i am parking in front to my house

I am having dashboard melting problem in toyota camry 2008. it looks like not only me having this problem but it is most likely majority of the people who own the toyota camry. it is not only safety hazard when you drive in the sunlight but also bring question on product quality and it's brand name. toyota should immediately recall and resolve this problem asap. *tr

Dashboard start melting and giving flash in the sun light, i can't see clearly, light hit in my eyes .i can't use the car daytime.

The stickiness of the dashboard, and the shiny/reflective surface the dashboard creates, as a safety harzard.

Dashboard is melting is very sticky and shiny, i visited the toyota dealer where i bought it, no one seemed to care. they asked me to call toyota customer service number , when i called toyota and explained the situation they simply said it would have to be my issue since it was over 3 years, and that a dash board wasn't a safety issue. the vehicle is only 5 years old and i can't believe this is happening. clearly is a manufactures defect and the company should be recalling something of this nature because of the safety issue. the glare is very dangerous when driving specially driving on the freeway. *tr

The dashboard is starting to melt and is causing glare on the front windshield while driving. nothing remedies it and there is question as to whether or not the passenger air bag will deploy properly due to the increased elasticity of the dashboard. *tr

The dashboard on my 2008 camry has become increasingly soft and sticky over the past year. it is sticky to the touch and feels like you are touching the back of some kind of tape. everything sticks to it and it is extremely hard to clean. this problem has gotten worse over the course of calendar year 2014. my car does stay outside, so probably does get more sun than if it stayed in a garage; however, a dashboard should not start to melt just because a car has been out in the sun. i have put no type of cleaner on the dashboard except for maybe an occasional wipe down with armorall (a product that should not cause this situation). the more the dashboard melts and gets sticky, the more i have noticed a bright glare coming off of it, which i am concerned could cause some visibility issues while driving the car. i kept my previous toyota for over 10 years, and never had an issue like this. i believe this is a defect with this model car and that toyota should do the responsible thing and fix/correct this problem for people who are experiencing the same issue. *tr

Started smoking, and pulled car to side of road. then camry was on fire. the whole engine was on fire. the car is totaled. it is not worth anything. nothing can be salvaged at all the inside of car was burnt. now i don't have a car. the insurance might not cover the car. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. the contact stated that the catalytic converter failed. the contact stated that the vehicle decelerated while driving and the rpms increased to 600,000. the vehicle also lost acceleration while downshifting and the rpms increased. the vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who located the failure at the catalytic converter. the catalytic converter assembly was replaced; however, the failure was not corrected. the contact stated that the engine was previously replaced for premature oil consumption; however, the failure was not corrected. the contact also advised that the dashboard was melting due to defective material. the dashboard was not replaced. the manufacturer was contacted. the failure mileage was 336,822.

Camry is hit by a pick up truck on the left passenger side, causing the camry to lose control and rotate more than 360 degrees on the road but none of the airbags, even the side airbags deployed. i called toyota and asked by the side airbags did not deploy and was told that they could inspect it but they will be charging me $99 to check why the airbags didn't deploy. i was obviously distraught over the fact that they will charge me first before they can look at a potential safety issue about my vehicle and the person we talked to just basically asked me to call back if i wanted them to look into it and hung up. *tr

The front dashboard is melting. it is becoming very sticky (even with a sunshade) and shiny during warmer days. when it is shiny, the glare can get very bad and i have had to get polarized sunglasses to block the glare. i am reporting this issue after learning that many other cars of this same make and model are having the same issue. *tr

My dashboard is melting on my 2008 toyota camry le the company should pay for a replacement i have read that this is happening to a tremendous amount of camry owners this is a flaw in the design component that the dashboard is made of. this should warrant a recall for a manufacturers defect. *tr

The dashboard on my camry is melting and pieces are chipping off. *tr

Dashboard is sticky and melting. other similar camry's have the same problem. defective dashboards?? *tr

I own a toyota camry 2008, and within the last 3-4 months i have noticed my dashboard is gooey and sticky i cant seem to clean it or get rid of the stickiness. i have called the toyota help center and they refused to help me or pay for any repairs. i explained to them how bad the damage is for only toyota to deny any responsibility. i have went to the toyota dealership in carson, california to get an estimate of $2,480.75 for repairs. i would think toyota would make a recall and get this dashboard situation fixed. now my dashboard is causing a glare on my drivers side to only make the situation worse while im driving on the road. the glare is sufficient to give me a blind spot. i need any help to get this fixed before an accident takes place due to toyota being irresponsible. *tr

My vehicles front dashboard has become a giant sticky mess. it is impossible to clean. as time goes on, it becomes shinier and stickier. if a napkin or tissue touches it, the dashboard "glue" won't let go of it. it traps and kills insects if they touch it. this is a manufacturers defect and not a condition brought on through user mistreatment of the dash. *tr

The dashboard top on this vehicle has melted into a sticky mess which is a glaring representation of faulty materials used in the manufacturing process of this component of an otherwise fine car. the odor and glare off the dash is also quite distracting. toyota should really offer its customers a very low-cost solution to this problem, if not a complimentary fix. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. while driving 50 mph, it was observed that the dashboard over the instrument panel was melting. the failure occurred constantly. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the dashboard was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000.

Starting in 2012 and increasingly getting worse, the dashboard began to get shiny and very sticky. it appeared to be melting. i first noticed it at night with street lights and headlights creating very bad glare, i thought my eyes were getting bad until i drove another vehicle. it has progressed to the point that it is unsafe to drive in the day time on bright days without something on the dash to block the reflection. it is very sticky to the touch, ants wills will stick to the dashboard and it is easily gouged. i have tried to clean but it did not improve the situation. this is an extreme safety hazard due to the glare during the day significantly limiting visibility. my family members who may drive the car immediately notice the problem when they drive my car and state they did not feel safe without putting a towel or something on the dashboard. *tr

The dashboard is melting and sticky. it causes glare interfering my view. *tr

The dashboard on my vehicle has become extremely sticky and is peeling away as i wipe it. *tr

I have a toyota camry 2008 with 31,500 miles dashboard are melty and sticky, my concern is this affect air bags also this looks like a manufacture defect due to many complains on networks. i went to a toyota dealer they're willing to replace the dashboard and i have to pay for labor. that's is telling you they are aware of the problem. i decide to fixed but i told them is any recall comes up they will need to reimburse my money due to this is factory defect. this is a safety hazard we are not sure this affect airbags and shine reflect on the dashboard can affect your vision while you are driving. *tr

Since the temperature started to rise here in tx, my 2008 camry dashboard has become extremely sticky. when i tried cleaning it, i noticed that my finger nail chipped away pieces of the dashboard. while trying to wipe the dashboard, the rag is also sticking to the dashboard. this is very concerning to me, i've never encountered this. this is clearly a manufacturer defect. *tr

The vehicle suddenly lost control and was not responding to the steering. it started swaying and hit the cement barrier on the left. this looks like a internal car failure. i have had this car for since 2008 and had bought it brand new. it is completely up to date with the maintenance and oil change etc. *tr

The dashboard has molten and become shiny. the windshield reflects light from the dashboard that may cause accident due to poor driver's vision. *tr

My dashboard has "melted" and there is an annoying glare causing a "whiteout" while driving. the dashboard is extremely sticky and when you rub it, the dashboard is removed in little pieces. there is such a glare off the dashboard from the sun that it blocks my ability to see the road clearly at times. *tr

I live in fl and my dashboard is melting. this is causing a huge glare when i drive on the window. being 90 years old i consider this to be a safety hazard. i have also seen this same issue on the nhtsa database. toyota wants to charge me $1,000 for a new dashboard but to me this should be covered due to the large number of people with the same issue. *tr

2008 camry dashboard is melting! you can't even touch it! *tr

I own a toyota camry 2008 le (4 cyl. ). i had taken my car in for servicing several times (normal oil changes), the dealer noticed that the dashboard was getting shiny, disintegrating and falling apart. they took photos of it and told me they would replace it when toyota granted them permission to do so. on june 19, 2014, i was called by a female from the dealer and told that they would replace the part ( allegedly the part costs $2200.00, and they would bear the costs of the part), but since i was not the original owner, but second owner, i would have to pay labor costs of $525.00. obviously, i do not want to part with $525.00 for a faulty, cheap, badly engineered part which has safety issues and or design flaws, and replace it with another one of the same kind. if replacing the dashboard is a safety issue, it should not matter if you are the original owner or not. i thought that the standard to be used is whether the car is safe or not. apparently toyota has forgotten about making cars safe. *tr

I bought my 2008 toyota camry in september 2012 and shortly after the dashboard started melting. it is now very sticky and continues to melt. because of the melting, the windshield produces a glare and makes driving very difficult during the day. i cannot drive unless i am wearing polarized sunglasses, which helps minimize the glare. i do not feel safe driving this vehicle because of the constant glare on the windshield from the reflection of the melting dashboard. i am especially nervous when i have to drive my 10 month old niece around! nothing will clean the dashboard and it continues to melt becoming stickier which in turns causes every little particle of lint, dust, grime, etc to stick to the dashboard. i even use a sunshade daily to help keep my car cooler and i also park in the garage at home, but the dash still melts and is sticky. absolutely disgusted with toyota's quality! *js

The top of the entire dash is melting causing a very high gloss appearance which makes a glare on the inside of windshield making it difficult to drive at night especially with lights from oncoming traffic glaring of windshield. it also has some glare during the day as you can see the shiny dash reflecting off the inside of windshield. some days worse than others depending on the temperature or amount the sun has been hitting the top of dash thus melting it more and making it more shiny. *tr

We bought this vehicle used in march 2014, i noticed thruout the summer that the dashboard melts in the sun. it still melts even if we put up the windshield sun screen. i saw on the local news that this is an ongoing problem here in south florida. *tr

My dashboard is disintegrating, crumpling, or melting. i proceeded to wipe the dash and i saw little crumps. the dash is very soft. i stuck my fingernail and left a nail print. when i put my sun glare blocker over the dash, it scrapes and scratches it. it is crumpling and it has scratch marks from putting up my sun guard. i know it's not supposed to do that, so i decided to make a complaint. also my sun visor on the passenger side will not stay up. there was a recall on the sun visors. i had the driver side replace a year ago. now the passenger side droops and they want me to pay to get it fixed. this is under investigation because they should have changed them both when they changed the driver side. *tr

The dashboard has been progressively melting. it is sticky and reflects a glare that presents a safety hazard when driving. *tr

Dash board seems to be melting! sticky and starting to degrade!! *tr

Dashboard is melting and glare is hindering vision of road. *js

The issue with my 2008 toyota camry, is the dash board is starting to melt. thus making it hard to see while driving. i'm concerned with this because it can be a safety issue while on the road. *js
